I read this book for the billionth time and it is still deserving of its original 5 Stars. This book was my introduction to AA Romance and will forever remain my absolute favorite.

I'm shocked by these reviews...I'm so torn by his book. The storyline and writing saw me through it but how it also made me want to put it down so many times! It was all over the place: poor structuring, unexplained segues, funny pacing, confusing and inconsistent characters, unnecessary melodrama (but could be because of the era the book was written in) and incomplete plots. I have read subsequent (not in this series) Ms. Alers books and have enjoyed them so I want to believe the frustrating things about this book are because it is an early book she was still finding her writing feet.

Wow couldn’t even bring myself to finish this despite reading 95% of this. Parris read like a female MC from 80’s romance. A young Parris falls in love with the billionaire and is dramatically forced to leave him only to be found by him ten years later and coerced to return to her home state of Florida despite her life being in danger, because love? LOL.

The author goes to great lengths so that the hero was the only man the female MC slept with despite the passage of ten years making the characters and the story feel dated. So I checked and the original story was from 1995 and I realized not all characters and stories can hold up to the test of time. While there is a certain amount of fantasy that is part of romance these characters and story simply felt unrealistic and old fashioned.

Enjoyable

This was a well thought out story. It was well written and characters were well developed. This story has several layers that worked well together. It had redemption, career changes, romance, suspense, intrigue, physical attacks , betrayal and undying love.
This story was written with intriguing twist and unexpected turns. Most questions were answered but room was left for additional stories if author wanted to expand.
This is good book. Editing was a little off but not a problem.
Recommend books to all who likes strong black female main character and the man that loves her.

WOW!

This author has thrilled, captivated and riveted me the last two days of reading. I was fascinated with, "Parris and Martin Cole's" passion and relationship. I have read books eight, ten to 16 of the "Hideaway Legacy" series and loved the Cole children's story and I'm more fascinated at the beginning. The suspense as to whom was blackmailing and wanting to kill Parris was unexpected. Bravo! I though that "The Eatons", " Cavanaugh Island" and "The Innkeepers" series were engaging but, this series is sensational!

This book has another Goodreads listing. I'm copying my review over.

Dramaaaa

This book was originally published in 1995. It has all the melodrama of a 90s romance, and I love it. It's very soap opera-like. There's a lot going on in this book, and if you want something simple, this is not for you. However if you want to suspend disbelief and get lost in a story that's over the top, this is it.

Genuine Love

Another grand novel that consumed my time and sleep. Conquering dynamic characters, setting, and moods were top notch in this novel, The intense and mysterious plots were dynamic, and the cohesiveness of every sentence flowed into riveting and smooth paragraphs. This novel was super fantastic!
Rochelle is one of the best authors ever! Martin and Parrish’s love will forever be embedded in my mind and heart. Another Grand Applaud for Rochelle Alers.

Interesting Plot but...

Can stay i enjoyed it but mainly because i was intrigued by the hostility amongst the Coles. I really wanted to find out more about Joshua but to be honest i was constantly annoyed with the characters, just had to power through. Hope the next book reveals more about the family and has less annoying characters.

It could of been

I didn't lover it or hate it, I just didn't like it!! Paris was a tad selfish and immature to me, I could not find anything that I liked about her. Martin truly loved her. Even more than their child who was kidnapped (😖) I would not recommended this as a good read.

Trust

Excellent read. I enjoyed the storytelling of Martin and Paris love affair. Intriguing how they became a couple. She had trust issues because of her marriage and relationship with Owen, her ex-husband. Interesting Owen was able to remarry have two children and move on with his life.. Really good read, I will seek additional work by Rachelle Alerts.

I have been a fan of Ms. Alers for sometime but this was one of the best books I think she has written it had EVERYTHING LOVE, MYSTERY, ADVENTURE, JOY, HAPPINESS, HATE etc. it had it all. The characters were interesting and could be continue on with their own stories (books). Held my INTEREST from beginning to the end.

Hidden Meanings

Usually Ms Alers books take me away on a
romantic adventure, but this one left me a little disappointed; the storyline seemed choppy and the characters not very well rounded. Perhaps because it's an earlier work,it was not as smooth as what she has written recently.

Was shocked to find out that Joshua Kirkland was Martin's half brother, but figured out, or thought it was Sammy that was behind the blackmail and kidnapping. It was a pretty easy read, but I liked the Eaton's a bit more

Unfortunately I didn’t read this book first when I discovered the series. But it was told in such a way I still was unable to to put it down. Wonderful storytelling.

WOW

Never would've even thought that his parents had something to do with it. Never in a million years. How utterly heartless can one be? I would send they ass to jail too. What if the outcome was different? The fact that they don't seem to care is baffling!!!!

LONG AND WORDY

The book started out very good, but the book became wordy and drawn out. I skipped a lot of the unnecessary details.

I LOVED this book! Alers has created a love story full of complications, passion, and secrets that keep the pages turning. Parris is coming out of hiding, hiding from her ex-husband and her ex-lovers pasts. She's a victim of loving men who have complicated lives. Now she and her daughter return in hopes she and her ex-lover Martin can rekindle their passion and put the past where it belongs. Unfortunitely the secrets she's been hiding are going to come to the surface.

I thought this was a very well written book and highly recommend it. The only reason I didn't give five stars was because it took me a little too long to get into it. I wasn't grabbed right away. But I'm so happy I stuck it out. Well worth it.

Martin & Parris obstacles

What does one do when fear becomes all consuming and all powerful? What has when ambitions result in unthinkable choices being made that could effect an entire family? This is what is faced with Martin and Parris's relationship. While they had fire and passion it was so much more. As the weight of the Cole name wasn't something either truly realized had binded them so deeply. With the elements of Sammy, M.J. and Joshua the story took on a life of it's own that truly was made for television. The deception. The attempts at murder. The havoc was just one that truly kept you intrigued. Parris's desire for simplicity made for an interesting set with Martin's hardcore ambitions.

Surprisingly good...

I did not think this would be such an amazing read.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The main characters were very detailed and written like I could feel their emotions...so much so that I began thinking I could then start anticipating their reactions to every road block in their way.
WHEW! I'm tired from the dramatic roller coaster ride that was the climatic end...okay the end of this book.
Good grief I'm going back in for more of this author and series😊
