I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review. This was the first time to read a book by this author, Elaine Shields, and it won't be my last. I loved the way that Indigo was able to turn the tragedy of finding that the man she was supposed to marry when she left New York to move to Utah had died before she arrived. She always wanted to be a doctor but that was unheard of in that era. When she met Gregory, the town’s doctor, she was able to get a job as his assistant. She had learned medical procedures while assisting her Dad who was a famous doctor in New York. Gregory was impressed by Indigo ' s skills including her knowledge of new and more effective treatments than he knew about. Their work relationship turned into a friendship that led to love. Their love story was heartwarming, and all the interesting things they had to deal with in their medical practice as well as hateful people in town made the book hard to put down. I highly recommend this book, and I plan on reading more books by this author.
Indigo Seaton had an envious life in New York City. But in 1873, the world wasn’t ready for a second Dr. Seaton, particularly if the second Dr. Seaton was the beautiful Indigo. When cholera broke out and she was refused by her dad to help him with those that were ill, heading west as a mail order bride was what she and her best friend, Hettie, was her best chance to be able to put her knowledge to use. The West was definitely more than she expected and she couldn’t have been happier. Dr. Gregory Hammond was glad to get the help from someone trained in New York, even a woman. Shootings, babies, robberies, kidnappings, accusations of witchcraft, humor, romance, what more could you want. I loved this story.
Her father trained her well. What an interesting girl Indigo was I rather enjoyed reading her story. She had worked for years with her famous father Dr. Seaton but when things become dangerous in New York he would not allow her to be anywhere she might get sick. This broke her heart and made her angry so decides to go out west to be a mail-order bride all in hopes that her new husband would allow her to give care to the sick. Well, fate had other plans and she ends up working for Gregory the doctor in the western town she was in. The tale is about them getting to become friends with underlines stories of greed, jealousy, and yes danger. I enjoyed the book.
A heartwarming and thoroughly entertaining story of a young woman, Indigo Seaton, who wants to follow in her father's footsteps and do medicine, however the era is not yet ripe for that and she must find her way. She is set to marry a man in the West. I love the way the story unfolds and builds in tempo with lots of action and medical emergencies where Indigo and Dr. Gregory Hammond prove themselves time and time again. Excellent story and plot and the writing style is easy to read and flows very well. I loved it.
There is an outbreak of cholera and Indigo Seaton’s father sends her away to prevent her from getting sick. When her dreams of becoming a doctor is shattered she becomes a mail order bride and heads west. After arriving she finds out her husband has died but keeps quiet and meets a doctor named Gregory Hammond. Indigo becomes Gregory’s assistant and together they try to find a cure for cholera. In the meantime, their work relationship turns from friendship into a romantic relationship. I really enjoyed this captivating historical western romance fiction novel.
I enjoyed this story note than I expected, after reading the first chapter. The writing is a bit simple, as if it is an early work. However, it was a fun and immersive book with characters you'd love to meet. There are a few errors (a modern slang reference and a few past tense/future tense mistakes), but these didn't distract much. I liked the twists and turns of the plot, the overall feel of the town and the setting. I recommend this sweet Western romance with 4 full stars. -ncv
Because of family difficulties she ends up being a mail order bride. But then things are just as bad out there with her husband to be dead. So while trying to find out what happened to him she ends working with the doctor there. But even though they are attracted to each other they both have things that the other needs to know. It has drama, danger, surprises and twists and turns and much more. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Healing A Wandering Heart A Historical Western Romance Book
This is a very good story written by a first Time author but the plot is very good and the story has action and romance. The characters are determined and emotional but the main characters are dedicated doctors .Indigo is sent West as a mail order bride but her groom to be is dead on her arrival so she gets a job with Gregory the best town doctor and they fall in love This is a enjoyable story
This is a well written book with strong characters and an interesting story line. The author does a great job building the story and pulled me in with all the emotions flowing throughout as well as the danger and romance. She takes you back to the day with her detailed and descriptive writing and moves the story fluidly delivering an enjoyable read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This is another great book by this great author. A young woman , the daughter of a physician, travels west from New York as a mail order bride only to find out that her husband to be is dead. The next day she goes trying to find out what happened to him. When she goes to speak to the physician he ask her to come work for him. This has been a life long dream of hers. Read to see if she keeps the job or return to New York
It was a good story, you have the bad guy that turns good, the good guy that turns bad, perfect main characters that fall in love, a little bit of a who done it, a scare when one of the main characters gets shot, and a perfect ending. I took off two stars because it was very stilted, the transitions were not smooth at all and made it tiring to keep up. It got better towards the last half.
Indigo Seaton wants to follow her fathers example and heal/help people by becoming a doctor. He's afraid for her due to the Cholera outbreak and sends her West to be a mail order bride. Doctor Gregory hires on Indigo because he see's she knows all about the medical field. Great story line and characters!
This was a great read from start to finish. I enjoyed the medicine details from earlier years and the use of plants. It was a great love story with a lot of detail on many relationships. Thank you great job done. Will tell me friends toreador this book.
I have just finish reading this and I enjoyed reading it very much This is the first time I have read anything by this author and was very impressed with it and I hope to see more by her Well done
This is the first book I have read by Ms Shields. It sure will not be the last! This book was so interesting from the very beginning to the end. Loved the characters and all in medical stuff from that time period.
This was the most wonderful read! I could easily identify with Indigo and I couldn’t help but empathize with every single thing that she had to go through. Her journey was truly beyond ideal but her sweet soul proved to be such a strong one.
For all that was going on I didn't want to put this down. The following of difficult dreams, the drama and danger, and all the budding romances plus the detail to the field of medicine was absolutely enthralling. Keep on writing.
A story of A woman going after a job that men usually have. She studied and worked with her father for years & finally got to do what she desired with her whole heart.
Honestly, I don't know what kept me reading long enough to finish this book because overall the writing was poor. The whole story was very cheesy, the dialogue was not good, the medicine was very inaccurate to name a few things. It had potential, but the author fell short.
When two extraordinary people are working together
A brilliant, caring Dr and a deserving Dr's assistant both with the same ideas cross paths, just sit back and observe. Through in some greedy, self serving nutters and you have the best ingredients for a great story.
Hate extended epilogues. Why can’t you just write one last chapter. I cannot get into it because it will not take my email...that I have had for 15 years.
The story line is fun and heart warming! Lovely characters pull it all together. An easy read that makes you want to continue the saga to find out what happens.
This book was so wonderful! I was a part of it from the very first page! It was embedded with surprises and kept me totally involved to the wonderful ending.
