This is a fun story about three average guys who get deeply, deeply into trouble.
When I first picked up this book, I didn't read more than the first sentence of its bio, because I prefer to read a book without too much foreknowledge of the story.
I'm sometimes regretful of that decision, but in this case it was a brilliant idea. Try it sometimes; it can make reading a book into an adventure.
The book begins with three super dooper nerds. Nerds who love LARP or Live Action Role Play.
This is a thing that a lot of people these days are really into, well super nerds perhaps are at least. Anywho, they are playing around in the park bemoaning the fact that their games had become a bit stale and in need of an injection of fun. What happens next will surprise you and will quite likely make you shudder. It's a combination of a mistaken attempt by one of the guys to help them all feel more connected to the LARP, and a small amount of misinformation, which was mistakenly given in order to inject a bit of life into things. And oh brother, believe me, he got them what he was aiming for.
I read the book in one sitting because it's not long, but also because I wanted to find out what happened at the end. I really liked this book. It was a real fun read and was well written.
Three best friends have been trying to up their roleplaying game with some LARPing (live action roleplaying), but they're not finding the magic, and it's kind of embarrassing. Dave signs them up for a job maybe doing a party or playing a haunted house game, but it turns out to be real. Monsters are out to kill them and magic is at their fingertips. Too bad they didn't fill in their character sheets completely. The friends discover someone is trying to break the line between reality and fantasy and take over the world, but do they have enough skill and determination to stop him?
This is a short action adventure gamelit book. The idea is fantastic. Three geeky friends get sucked into a real fantasy world as their characters and they must survive. They aren't super powered and they don't have great confidence. It was fun to read them arguing with one another but always having their buddies' backs. Lots of questions go unanswered, but there are three books already in this series to find them.
Great first book and quick read. the story was quick and simple and there friendship was felt very natural which helped me get immerse and quickly finishing the book. There is no huge info dumps like alot of other gamelit/litrpgs out there and things get explained more organicly. The only downside is that the book ends a bit too early and we are left with a sorta-cliffhanger and people hate those. But for me this lack of info and mystery make me eager for the next adventure.
First off, I don't do any kind of computer or fantasy games. Nor do I usually read a fantasy book. I read this short story for a book challenge. I guess it was okay, but it ended with a cliff hanger and I do not like those kind of books either. I won't be reading the next one. Three LARP (Live Action Role Players) find themselves in the basement of a mansion, trapped as players in a game. They have to fight their way past goblins and hobgoblins to get to their master...and that is only level one. This would probably appeal to people who enjoy playing the games.
Every gamer would love to take this adventure!!! I'm a gamer at heart and many times, I've imagined myself IN THE GAME!! In reading this, I felt like I was "IN THE GAME"! Yes, yes, yes!!!
***I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story.***
This is definitely a book for the “nerdy” type, but it’s a fun short read if you’re into that sort of thing! Looking forward to reading the second book of the series!
