I've read all three of the the books published in this series so far and am eager to read the 4th. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give the book a 4 or 5 star rating. Settled for a 5 for two reasons: First, the story is well told. It engages you from beginning to end. I really like the way the story develops from multiple perspectives. The Admirals, the ground troops, the corporations and inventors and the pirate! It helps you get a perspective on the story. The second reason for the 5 star is how realistic the military actions are. James clearly knows how the military thinks, operates, etc. He has the culture down. Where I think the book lacks from some of the best Science Fiction is in the science itself. James plays loose and fast with assumptions about the science: memory enhancements, beam-me-up-Scotty, food replicators, worm-hole technology. It sometimes feels like a rip-off from B-grade Star Trek episodes - BUT, what the heck, James does a great job of using these technologies as a prop to make for a great story. Sci-Fi is a leap of faith sometimes and I have faith in James and his story telling. Write-On dear sir.

Interesting.
James, got this one just about right. Book 1 and Book 2 had some irritants... a la..... "She nervously stammered"...... bla bla bla... "She" in this case was a top general or star Ship captain,... and those do not (normally) stammer nervously !!
So James.... stop that stupidity... it just irritates your readers.
To show I hold no hard feelings James.... I have per-ordered book 4... so redeem yourself and continue developing the story line. If you do good I will give you 5 stars. I love to see where Viceroy Hunt ends up.... the Gallentines sure took a shine to him. As to Nina Chapman...... just replace her with someone a bit more creditable.
Go Get 'em James.

Nice Delta Shout Out... Earned n SB Recognized

Maybe a 3? I don’t know. Not sure if meant as YA, but reads like one.

There’s nit-pik and then there’s NIT-PIK. I’m hoping this comes across as neither, just stating my opinion. Biggest issue is character development. There’s about 6 or so major players and storyline moves through their POV. We could discuss pace, timing and other things, issues but the crucial issue, for me, is that I didn’t identify with nor embrace any of the characters.

A character to latch onto is a must for me and there weren’t any here for me. People talk about stories and characters... and they’ll use words like stereotypes, shallow, blah..blah...blah. There was an enlisted infantryman that I kinda liked but there wasn’t enough about him. And then...for him to leave his unit — all that respect, pride, unit Kamaraden-brothers ..... in the middle of a war, a deployment so that he could be Delta Force?Doesn’t track for me.

Understand author is career military.... action ok but there’s a few items we could discuss. There’s only a few authors that do CQC, or any combat for that matter — right, blending big picture with individual, small unit action and reader gets a good understanding of what’s going on strategically and tactically. Just saying, it’s hard.

Delta-SpecOps used as Assault Troops? I’m sorry, don’t mean no disrespect.... they’re extremely well trained for a long time, years in the making. But, as the author says often, they’re ‘operators’... not assault troops. Big difference... jumping out of a plane n shooting backwards with either hand doesn’t help much when assaulting a fortified, well defended position. 400-600 people over a few hundred square meters, trying to kill each other with automatic weapons and tens of thousands of rounds per min going back n forth...a lot of skills taught to SpecOps ain’t going to help them nor assure success. Rangers? Really... come on.

Thanks for your service... nothing personal, hope commentary helps. I guess you’re voting for Marines and extinction, or absorbed by Army.... Ouch!

So maybe I've just read too much of this series all at once because it seems to be getting a little childish. The writing just doesn't seem to be at an adult level and that may be due to the fact the author has introduced everything good into what could have been a tragic book for humanity. I mean, here we have humans from Earth just starting to venture out into space. They have a rudimentary FTL drive capability that gets them to the nearest stars like Alpha Centauri and now New Eden, but they aren't really prepared for difficulties that being so far away from Earth can cause. Fortunately, Alpha Centauri seems to be a relatively peaceful star system, so much so that most of the Asian Alliance have decided to move there. Meanwhile, word of the Zodarks and their terrible warfighting behavior has certainly stunned the Republic and turned New Eden from a paradise to a big problem.

But, now is the good part, Admiral Hunt is visiting Altairius, the Altairian home world. He's thoroughly overcome by what he sees at this very advance planet. He's also introduced to other members of the Alliance who are also members of the Galactic Empire. That last sentence is important. It seems that when the Altarians are running things, all the member civilizations are part of an Alliance, but they are also members of the Galactic Empire. Earth gets invited to join this Alliance with Admiral Hunt even getting a seat at the Alliance War Council. But, there are strings attached. The Alliance wants Earth to prove it's warfighting skills as though they haven't already with the capture and holding of New Eden. It seems one of the Alliance members wants to get their planets back from the Zodarks, but they aren't fighters, so the Earth humans have been tasked to retake planet Intus. This is where Admiral Hunt starts to feel that the Altairians aren't as sharp as they should be, but the Alliance and Altairains are dumping huge amounts of new technology on the humans and helping them build war fleets that they, Earth humans, wouldn't have been able to build for thousands of years. So, the humans are going to have to pay for their membership in this new alliance by dying on planets for which they have no need. Not good.

Yet, back home around Earth, everyone is benefiting from this new technology. Even the Deltas are seeing new armor and new weapons, but they are running of people. Well, even thought WWIII was fought against rouge AIs built by humans to fight their wars and then completely banned from ever being used again, it's time to change that policy. A new model of androids built specifically to fight Zodarks will now be produced and trained by the Deltas. Hopefully, these new AIs will do as they are told and not suddenly decided they don't want to fight again! Once again, the problem of running out of people to fight a galactic war has been solved.

You'll read where the Altairians and its Alliance has been fighting the Zodarks for thousands of years. When Admiral Hunt asks questions as to why, he's told that the fight has to go on as is or the "Collective" will get involved. Now we get introduced to a whole new set of circumstances. The Collective seem to be supporting the Zodark and the Orbots while the Altairians and its Alliance has the backing of the Gallentines. The Gallentines is the civilization of the Emperor of the Galaxy! When Admiral Hunt presses the question as to why doesn't the Alliance make a much greater effort to defeat the Zodarks, he gets shut down by the Alliance. They obviously don't mind this war since they aren't the ones losing people in it. Once again, Admiral Hunt believes something isn't right.

Then we take a giant leap in this book when the Emperor of the Galaxy requests to speak to Admiral Hunt. Has he done something that has angered the Emperor and if he has, then he's a dead man and doesn't know it. Maybe the Gallentines prefer the war to continue as is so they are going to make sure these humans from Earth know their place. Except, as you'll read, things turn out far different than we though and this is going to make book four, "Into the Chaos" very interesting. That book won't be available until June 2021 so I can take a break from all this and I think that's a wise thing to do.

Into The War. James Rosone

Book three in this series. Set in the future, humans are now able to travel to other galaxies meeting the inhabitants. Some friendly and others are not. One species known as Zodarks are the most war like of all the species or aliens they have meet. Their methods of dominance could be compared to that of the Nazis or Soviet Union at the height of their dominance. We have formed an alliance with a race called the Altairians, by we are disappointed in the slowness and fighting tactics they use. They are willing to fight but not conquer or defeat the Zodarks. Earth is now referred to as the Republic. It was renamed at after a major world war had occurred. Another group or people called the collective or hive have morphed out of their physical bodies and are now like AI's. Everyone is afraid of them. The Zodarks function as there invading force. A new alliance is formed with a races known as Gallentines. They are far superior to us in technology, military and strength. An alliance has been made and it appears that Earth and our race will be under their control, totally. There ruler is referred to as the Emperor. I'm sure the next book in this series will elaborate on this. Humans as a species normally will not submit to any type of dominance without a fight. Another excellent read!! Enjoyed immensely!!

More buildup

So more pluses than minuses but I feel like they keep moving from one technology to the next with little accomplishment. And the emporer makes them a warrior class in a couple of years? I mean I know they were better in wars than the other races but it just didn’t seem to jive and we kept getting introduced to so many new things it made all the old things and people unimportant. I still want to read the next series but I’m hoping that now we can get moving through the story and I sped read through this

The Navy in space but no SEALS or Marines?

Usually I have no problems with your books but you have battles involving space stations being boarded my Army SF and leg army infantry. They were carried there by Republic Navy for space sakes! I know you’re Army but it just doesn’t jibe. I have no problem with the Army on planet and I know all the services were folded together but for accuracy it just seems odd.

Heavy Reading!

Being one that enjoys futuristic military wars with alien race bend on destroying us humans, I found this series to be a new go to books for continuing with this series. Believing that humanity can rise to any challenge and find within the human spirit to rise and meet any adversary with bravery and cunning! I will be continuing with the series because I have to know how the ending, finding Sumer star system wiped out, and what this means moving forward.

So far very good

At the moment, there are a lot of intertwined plots going simultaneously. It takes a little getting used to. You get invested in one plot, and then it switches to another at some crucial juncture. But overall, it is an entertaining read that promises to continue for a while. I just hope I'm not reading faster than the author writes. Nothing kills the buzz worse than having to wait a year for the next
book in the series.

Book 3... I'm marathoning this series, I still can't put it down.

This book remained very simple, full of action and yet a little slower. The universe expanded and we got to know the characters a little better. Yet, things still remain very simple. Big decisions are made and there isn't a full discussion on trade offs and unintended consequences we just kind of are pushed a long.

Honestly I'm just enjoying my vacation from serious fiction. This is just fun for me. Enjoying the ride!

Not a sci-fi guy

As it says I am not a sci-fi guy. I mean I just don't read it. But, these books are great. Having read all the other series written by the author I was somewhat apprehensive about getting into this but I don't know why because if you have read one book in any of their series you should know what to expect. Great stuff. Looking toward to the next chapter.

An excellent read. Yet again the author has delivered a truly impressive story.

Having followed this author for some time now I have never been let down. He mastery of telling a good story seems to have no limits regardless of the genre. I eagerly await more additions to his works. A serious fan.

Found it slow going and repetitious. I should be more interested in the alien culture aspects but generally the writings superficial and focused on the inherent superiority of humans as a new space going species. Leaves me wondering about where the author(s) are coming from, particularly when you consider the “12000 year earth flood” story line. Sounds like fundamentalism 1A to me?

Well written military story

Held back from conflict that would end the intergalactic wars, humans go to the source of the mandate and get what they need.

Suspicion about why they were prevented in the first place and finding out that their enemy plans to leave a trail of death as they retreat makes for a mystery.

Humans on planets in different galaxies?

Interesting take on humanity, history, and other races throughout galaxies. Evil villains, advanced technology, wars in land and in space, and great characters. Really enjoyed the first three books. Worth reading.

Good entertaining space war series

Really good reading. The series focuses mainly on the battles, kind of like the history channel relating WWII stories. I like the action, but there is a fair amount of Galactic politics.

What an imagination— what a story. As an author myself of an award winning novel, The Spill, I envy the imagination Rosone and Manning have. It is not often I stay up until the wee hours of night to read a good book. Thank you. Keith Abbott

Great space opera

WOW!!! What great series! The authors have designed a rich universe with lots of different aliens. There are good guys and bad guys.

I'm amazed at how the authors can write with so many different characters... and not have it be TOO many!
