Men Easton may become my favorite sweet romance author and Myrtle Beach, SC my most romantic getaway
I thought A Kiss at Midsummer by Men Easton was the most romantic book I had ever read until I read book 2 of the series, A Kiss at Christmas. Men Easton is well on her way to becoming my favorite sweet romance writer; ranking right up there with Nora Roberts, Danielle Steele and my newer authors, Ava Miles and Tess Thompson.
Meg's way of stringing together words to form a vibrant mental picture of her beautiful settings amazes me. I have been to South Carolina only briefly on my way to destinations further south. Yet as I read A Kiss at Christmas I not only pictured the beach at the Royal Palm Resort, I STOOD on that beach, smelled the salt and felt the wet sand sand in my hands as her main character's, Parker and Kelli made sand snowmen! It was an incredible rush!
Her characters are perfectly imperfect, riddled with the same doubts and fears we all have in real life. I could relate to Kelly's fear of never being perfect enough, pretty enough, good enough to stop people from abandoning her. I could easily identify with Parker and his list of imperfections that he could never work through because he never realized there was anything to fix until it was too late. The truths and the advice Meg wrote of, (delivered through the wise conversations with Parker and Kelly's friends and bosses) , were so insightful I highlighted them, to later use on my affirmation wall! Simply brilliant!
It is not easy to convey romance in words. We can't all be Byron, Shelley or Shakespeare! To be able to convey so much emotion in a description of a kiss, a look, or a touch to someone's arm takes great talent. Men Easton has mastered the art of romantic prose. She invokes such feelings with the scene with Parker and Kelli dance together at the ball, and that first kiss at Christmas. I felt my own lips tingle and I forgot how to breathe when they began to dance. Meg Easton creates an atmosphere of pure joy and ecstasy without graphic love making or foul language. Not that I don't enjoy a little spicy, steamy love scene every now and then. To be able to ignite that same electricity in a reader, without the erotic lovemaking is an art form in itself. Meg Easton rekindles those exciting feelings buried deep inside me, whenever I read her work. She definitely created a spark with her romantic encounters in A Kiss at Christmas.
If you need that inner fire lit again or are just looking for a book that can help escape the nitty gritty life we live, Meg Easton's The Royal Palm series, starting with A Kiss at Midsummer and following with A Kiss at Christmas, is a good place to start.
