My midlife crisis. My rules. And if it doesn't put me six feet under, I plan to live it up in style-possibly for the rest of eternity …
After a Luke Skywalker/Darth Vader moment, I discovered I do indeed have a father. He comes with a hell of a lot of baggage, but I've decided to keep him. Not only do I have a father, I have a kickass new sister, a ghostly family, and super powers to boot. If you add to the mix that I'm dating the Grim Reaper, it's a freakin' party.
The only thing standing in the way of my happiness is the Angel of Mercy, though Angel of Misery is more appropriate. She's responsible for almost everyone I have loved, and who has loved me, being taken away. With the help of family and friends, I will track her down and show her exactly what a perimenopausal hot flash looks like in action.
Job: Death Counselor-supergluing ghosts back together and solving their issues is rewarding. For real.
Mission: Bring the seriously evil Angel of Mercy to justice without dying or getting anyone else killed in the process.
Team: A bunch of certifiable Immortals, including one who re-homes vibrators. Yes, you read that correctly.
How to do this? Wing it. Wine, my Demon boyfriend, a houseful of deceased squatters, and good friends by my side will help.
Robyn writes because the people inside her head won’t leave her alone until she gives them life on paper. Her addictions include shoes (the expensive kind), Coke with extra ice in a styrofoam cup, and bejeweled reading glasses. A former professional actress, she now lives in the south with her family and too many animals to count. Writing gives her a chance to have a job where working in her P.J.’s is acceptable. My Midlife Crisis, My Rules by Robyn Peterman Book 4 of the Good to the Last Death series. Paranormal women’s fiction. Should be read in series order. First chapter is a repeat of the last chapter of the previous book. Daisy’s gifts or abilities continue to grow but will it be enough to go against her nemesis? She has her friends, her parents and her lover to help. Was she dead? An immortal now?
Crazy path that keeps moving. Witty with lots of sarcasm and humor and friends and learning lessons and family for closeness. “Hear me?”
🎧 Starts with last chapter of the prior book. Which I love since it may be awhile since the last book was read. I alternated between a paperback copy and an audiobook. I enjoy the paperback for clarity and depth while the audio is the most fun for the humor, sarcasm, and accents. The narrator is Jessica Almasy who does a fantastic job with voice variations and emotions. I prefer this author at a slightly faster than usual speed because of the southern accents and drawls that are amazing.
Still loving this series and these characters. It's such a fun time. Can't say much about the plot 4 books in, but I will be reading the whole series. I'm invested.
Rereading book four just reminded me why this series is pure paranormal perfection. My Midlife Crisis, My Rules takes Daisy’s already bonkers life and somehow makes it even more outrageous, more heartfelt, and more laugh‑until‑you‑snort funny. Robyn Peterman has turned midlife into a supernatural soap opera, and Daisy is the reluctant star of the show — armed with wine, sarcasm, and a whole lot of superglue.
Daisy’s world has exploded in the best possible way. She’s got a newly discovered father with enough emotional baggage to fill a cargo plane, a badass sister, a ghostly family, and superpowers she’s still trying to figure out. Add in a Demon boyfriend who is hotter than a perimenopausal hot flash and an Angel of Mercy who is anything but merciful, and Daisy’s midlife crisis is officially operating at maximum chaos.
The Angel of Mercy storyline hits hard. This is the being responsible for taking almost everyone Daisy has ever loved, and watching Daisy decide she’s done being a victim is incredibly satisfying. She’s ready to unleash a supernatural smackdown, and honestly? I’d pay good money to see that showdown in IMAX.
Her job as a Death Counselor remains one of the funniest, weirdest, and most unexpectedly touching parts of the series. Gluing ghosts back together and helping them sort out their unfinished business shouldn’t be this entertaining, but Daisy makes it a highlight every single time.
The supporting cast continues to shine — a team of immortals who are all varying degrees of unhinged, including one who re‑homes vibrators like it’s a public service. Daisy’s house is still full of dead squatters, her dogs are still smarter than most people, and her girlfriends remain the backbone of her sanity. When the going gets tough, the tough grab wine and wing it, and Daisy is the queen of winging it.
This book is fast, funny, emotional, and full of that signature Peterman charm. Daisy’s growth is messy and real, and watching her step fully into her power — on her own terms — is everything. The humour lands, the heart hits, and the supernatural chaos is as addictive as ever.
A fantastic reread and another standout in a series that proves midlife isn’t the end — it’s where the real fun begins.
There are a few books that I feel go beyond the 5 stars. This was one of them. Everything was in balance to make this book above awesome.
Your going to go on a trip you never expected. The book starts out good. We pick up where the last one ends. All the feelings you want to have is there. Then it starts getting into a story I didn't expect. Now I asked myself where are we going? How? I keep reading.
If I could climb in the book and get the story faster I would have at this point. Then, oh my, then. We get to the last few chapters. HOLY CRAP ON TOAST! Did I just read what I thought I did? Let me go back in the morning and read that again. YEP!! That ending just twisted up the whole story. I'm going to need a support group. I'm emotionally exhausted. All my feelings are a new mess.
I enjoyed every last minute of this book. It will stay with me. Don't miss out. Read this book. This series. Read it.
I love this series so much. I wasn't sure how Robyn could possibly top the previous book but she did! I was absolutely blown away. I laughed and I cried right along with the characters. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
This is a really great series and I’m glad I found it. The only downsides to this novel/ series is every book in the series ends ona cliffhanger, and there is some romance in them. Otherwise it’s great fun. The trivia section is amazing!
Jessica Almasy is the narrator for the audiobook version of the novel. And I’m loving her more than grits!! You feel me…?!?
This book is perfection (except for the lack of spice). It is hilarious 😂 with all the craziness of the characters, preposterous situations and insane dialogues, I almost wet myself laughing several times. Action packed with a big battle near the end of the book and some loved up moments too, even if it's not the main focus, and fade to black 😭 My second complaint is the lack of gluing body parts party in the book 😢 I always find those really funny. Free on KU and free audio on catalogue plus Audible too.
What an amazing roller coaster ride! I love it! I will never look at farting the same way again...Tush coughs will go down in history my friends. This series just gets better with each book. Daisy, Gideon, Gram, Karma, and the rest of the gang...all played great parts in who Daisy has become. Just read the series...you won't regret it!
I adore this series and the author. It's sweet and the characters are insanely funny. The side characters are just as interesting as the MC. The ending did make me tear up a bit. If you need a good laugh, this author is the way to go.
Is this the end of the Angel of Mercy??? Maybe, maybe not only one way to find out. Because let’s be honest I’m not going to spoil the ending no matter how much you beg. What I do know is that while as good as if not better than the previous books in this series this one takes you on an emotional roller coaster. This is the first time one of Robyn’s books has actually made me cry. Usually they’re a barrel of laughs. This time you learn more about Daisy’s family dynamics and you delve deeper into the relationships she has with those around her. We get to learn more about Karma. One resounding question still remains for me. Why are angels terrified of Karma?? I recommend this book and series to anyone looking for a great read!
Holy CLIFFHANGER Batman!! Robyn continues to do it in this next edition of Daisy and her family/friends as they continue to battle the unhinged crazy Angel of Mercy who has gone too far by going after Daisies ghosts. Learn more fun and hilarious random stuff while Jennifer and Tim battle it out in their game of wits! This is amazing saga that will leave you on the edge of your chair the whole time!
Took a bit to write a review.. only cause how do you say a book made you cry almost throughout and not sound bad. Well to quote a beautiful soul. "Can't be happy if you don't feel the sad. It's ok to be sad and cry." Life is about choices and never have those choices been more prevalent in Daisy's world and those who revolve around it. I truly can't wait for the next book!
It took me a month to get through this book. You feel me I usually enjoy this authors books. You feel me But the repetiveness was such a turn off. You feel me I feel like this could have been wrapped up in the last book. You feel me Not sure if I'll continue You feel me
The first three books of the series shaped things up for what happens there, bringing with it its share of laughs, of surprises (and there were several of them!), of "awww" moments and, yes, tears. Enough to make me pass through the whole gamut of emotions, many times over!
To think that I will have to wait four whole months to know what happens next (because this one ends in quite the cliffhanger) is sheer torture! Then again, with such a great series, that's the kind of torture I can deal with extremely well, while I ponder what will happen.
In other words: have tissues nearby for the tears, don't read this book in a public place for the uncontrollable laughs, and get all emo because you will be.
I didn’t think the series could get worse but I was wrong. I hate books that have repetitive words or sayings. Just when I thought I was safe after the third book where “John Travolta” was mentioned 91 freaking times, I start reading the 4th in the series. Only to see the name Candy Vargo mentioned 63 times. There is NO reason why her last name needed to be mentioned SIXTY THREE times. I know her damn name by now! And if I had to read “You feel me?” one more time 🤮 And there is going to be another book??? I really don’t know if I can put myself through that again. Which honestly makes me sad because I enjoyed the first two. But the immaturity of the 3rd book and repetitiveness makes me want to break my kindle in half.
3.5 stars. Although I enjoyed this book, I didn’t like it as much as the previous ones. There were still plenty of funny moments, but I found at times that the story was becoming a bit ridiculous.
This was the best work to date on this series..wow This had it all happening I been cried about Steve and the girls. Bring on the next book. Because shit just got real...
You know how with your best and closest friends you can go sometimes weeks or months without hearing from each other? Then when you get back together its like you never missed a day and are back with the ones you love? Robyn Peterman's books are EXACTLY like that! You fall in love with each book, every character, every place. When you finish the book you instantly want the next one. You might have to wait a little while for it but they always arrive and are even better and you're back in the world where you belong with the new friends that you are reading about and the new evils you want to make sure get what's coming to them! I can only hope that when I grow up I'm exactly like Daisy and get to live out my life crisis surrounded by my own Giddeon, awesome group of friends and family. This book is the latest installment of everything Daisy is having to face in her insane midlife crisis. We all know that adulting isn't easy but Daisy takes adulting to new levels. Between crazy pants unhinged Angels, dead squatters, the fate of the ones she loves in jeopardy and having a Demon in her bed things might just be a LITTLE much. However as only Daisy can she handles it with a flair and sense of humor to battle the world. You don't necessarily have to read the first 3 books to read this one but I highly recommend you do. Mainly because you need to laugh. In this year of the pandemic from hell this series of books will definitely improve your outlook on things and if nothing else just make you laugh your ass off. Everyone needs that little bit of fun and easy to read joy during this time. My suggestion during this time of home quarantine and social distance is to kick up your feet, grab at glass and one click this ENTIRE SERIES! You really will thank me!
Daisy's wildly chaotic new existence is getting even more bonkers. She's developing powers outside the norm for her calling and she has a seriously unhinged Angel gunning for her and everyone she loves.
On the upside, her family is expanding. I mean, she's found her pops. The hiding place of her mama's soul has been revealed. Her ghostly grams is hanging around. Her demon boyfriend is SUPER hot. She's attracting Immortals to her inner circle like whoa. For that matter, her fully human friends are showing surprising resilience when unexpected things get revealed to them.
On the downside, there's that darn Angel of Mercy. She's...problematic. In a big way. And she's totally not above going after Daisy's loved ones to get what she wants.
A little family bonding, a little mayhem and destruction, a few new abilities, and a future that looks like it's not going to get any more normal that what Daisy's dealing with now. Things are happening and WHOA.
I have so many *feels* about this one! The first three books in the series really build up to this one, and its all hands on deck in the showdown against the Angel of Mercy. In the previous book, we learned the truth of her moms death, and just how low Clarissa has sunk...not to mention how long she's been living in crazy town.
What are a group of immortals to do when the Angel of Mercy has gone completely off the rails, the tribunal against her hasn't begun, and no one has any idea where she's hiding? When one of Daisy's dearest friends is put in mortal danger, all bets are off - Clarissa is going down, with or without a trial.
So so very much occurs in My Midlife Crisis, My Rules... it's full of action and danger, but also so full of friendship, compassion and love. You won't want to miss out on the adventure.
Probably more like 3.5 stars but since I really like the series, I bumped it up to 4. Don’t read these out of order. As each book literally picks up right where the last one left off, they feel almost like one giant book. This one started off very slowly, focusing on rehash and more silly stuff with ghosts. I usually like the work Daisy does with the ghosts but this time it got a bit too cutesy for me. I was more interested in moving the story along than in Daisy’s interaction with child ghosts, but that might just be me. The story didn’t really pick up for me until about the 60% mark. Things happen and more secrets are revealed. And yes, this one does end with a marginal cliffhanger (it might be bigger to some readers than others). Fans should enjoy this one. I’m curious to see where the series goes from here as some story arcs were finished but others were started.
This is the fourth book in the Good to the Last Death series written by Robyn Peterman. This is a great series, you can read this book first but I would advise you to read the books in this series in order so you can get the story in order and grow the characters like I do. Daisy is in her forty’s and just realized she is a Death Counselor, she helps ghosts cross over. She is also in love with the Grim Reaper. In order for her to save her grandma she has to destroy the Angle of Mercy. This is one of my favorite series and I can’t wait for the next book.
This series is just plain fun. The audiobook version is outstanding. Listening to the laugh out loud antics made all the driving to run errands this week seem to fly by. It is a wonderful mix to see characters navigate difficult situations one moment and crack a joke the next. It must be a difficult balancing act, but the author pulls it off. The plot moves fast. The entire series seems to just fly by. There are no lulls in the story. I would read/listen to this entire series again without batting an eye.
I am enjoying this book series. This book is part of a series and is so funny! It has some great otherworldly buildings. All the characters will take you on an entertaining adventure. In the book series, there is steam. I wouldn't call it a HEA for right now; it is more of an everlasting Happily For Now (at least at this point in the series).
The quote I gained from this book was: "Out with the old. In with the new. Strange happenings are on the horizon. Paths will converge, and truths shall be revealed."
This series just doesn’t let up! The hunt for the Angel of Mercy continues, and we learn more about Daisy as she learns more about herself. Gideon is his fine self, and standing by Daisy with all of his love and support. Her cast of crazy friends end up joining the party in ways they could never imagine, and the angels are up to some hinky stuff. I’m dying to know why they are terrified of Karma!!
Laughter, tears, insanity – that’s Robyn Peterman for ya! Definitely pick up this series!
Daisy and the Immortals are back. This book picks up right as we left off and continues on a wild ride. Clarissa needs to be stopped. This time she’s gone way too far. A few new characters are introduced and another is brought into the fold of knowledge. Karma is quickly becoming my favorite character, while Tim continues to surprise us. It ends with another cliffhanger, but that’s ok. It gives me something to look forward too. Be ready for an emotional read.......laughter, tears and more.
Daisy and the Crew working hard to destroy the Angel of Mercy. The last three books have lead us to this point and what a great wait it was. As always, it made me laugh. I definitely got a little teary eyed in a few places. A couple quotes that made you actually sit back and think a bit. This was a GREAT book Robyn Peterman. Please keep up the great work and I'm ready for the next in the series!!
Oh my what a mid-life Daisy is having and with that ending lol sh.ts about to get even more real. I loved some threads ending even though some were sad and had me blubbering like a baby and one thread in particular had me cheering to the moon and back because bi,ch is gone, gone,gone...lol And then there the new threads left hanging which will add more hilarity and awesomeness to future stories and yes this is all cryptic as f..k but I just don;t want to give anything away this is a must read story from a must read series from a must read author...lol
