Interesting but choppy

This book is a great love story. And it’s one of the few romances that address the Revolutionary War in a realistic way. I enjoyed it, but I had to force myself to finish it. The scenes are very choppy and I got lost if I didn’t work to pay close attention. There wasn’t quite enough detail. But the love triangle is awesome, and the sibling strife is true. The worst part is I don’t know if it’s a true HEA. The couple we want to get together end up in each other’s arms, but the final scene ends in the middle of the scene, and they are in a real pickle. She says she’ll go with him, but there’s a dead body laying there unresolved. Is there a book 2? I was left hanging.

I enjoyed the book because of its setting and believability. The Revolutionary War era is rich with ideas for authors. The plot was choppy and predictable with characters that needed to be fleshed out in more detail. The lackluster editing made reading some parts more difficult but all in all I found the storytelling interesting. There were a few unresolved plot twists which could spawn another book in the series. And I was confused as to how a British Captain could just up and leave the Army and head home to England and parts unknown.

Due mostly to my love for history, I was enjoying this book enough to finish it even with the choppy, confusing timelapses and poor editing until the end. The ending was lacking.
