(Nonfiction) This is a good nonfiction book because it provides a lot of examples, real-life pictures and definitions. However, I think this is a very difficult book to understand, especially at a young elementary age. It may even be too difficult for older elementary. Some of the things I read were even confusing for me to take in, unless I read it a few times. I know that with books or any lesson, teachers should teach students vocabulary and increase their vocabulary, however, there are some words that I think are well over early elementary, or even later elementary level, such as nectar, pollen, propolis, antennae, larvae, and mating. However, I could imagine possibly using this book in a later elementary science lesson, after explaining the terms first. The book does a great job of describing and deomonstrating how functions and lifestyles of he bees work.
These First Discovery Books are so beautiful and are great non-fiction books for level 1/2 readers! O says his favorite part was the cool picture of a termite mound!
