Neil needs a bodyguard and a keeper. Fortunately, Brody can be both.
Morning news anchor Neil Klein has a mouth that often gets away from him. When one of the things he says on air puts his life in danger, the bratty “little” resists the bodyguard his producer hires. He doesn't need anyone to run his life and nobody is going to tell him what to do. At least, that's what he says when he fires the hot new bodyguard.
Except that former Ranger Brody Johnson isn’t willing to leave. He was brought in to do a job and he’s going to do it. Neil needs a keeper, that much is obvious. Also clear? The only one uniquely qualified for the position is a protective former Dom with all the skills that a twenty-year military career can teach a man.
This is a 25k standalone novella. Watch out for adorable cats, a little who’s really a middle, and enough Mario references to make you hear the game’s music beeping and booping through your mind. You’ll probably catch yourself giggling out loud, but what else can you expect from a Susan Hawke book?
Susan Hawke is more widely known for her mpreg writings as Susi Hawke; this new name is a departure from that. Whether written by Susan or Susi, the books are filled with that all-important love, laughter, and family; the only difference is that this name has no male pregnancy.
Ohmygosh oh wow I wish this one was about 200 pages longer! Susan Hawke’s crafted a gem here. A toppy middle, an intriguing wounded warrior, and a fun little mystery News Boy had better be the start of a fantastic new series!
Michael Dean adds his patented style to this one, and it’s perfection. As adorable I’m sure this one reads, what Mr. Dean brings to the experience elevates News Boy to a whole ‘nother level.
Sweet, sexy, unique, and gah I wish there was more, News Boy is a winner!
an audiobook copy of News Boy was provided to me for the purpose of my honest review
I think due to this being a love story and only sorta a thriller either the author gave away the truth of the source of the threats to Neil's life pretty darn early in or I just am good at figuring crap out (note: I suck at figuring crap out). Regardless of that fact I still found this short to be pure perfection! Brody and Neil are so beautifully drawn that I fell for them both in no time andwas priviledged to watch them fall for one another! So sweet, so adorable and so so very sexy!
This was exactly what I needed! I'm still amazed that this was only 85 pages, but still didn't feel as rushed as other short stories.
I really liked that Neil and his friend Brittany were both news anchors on their morning show, but also both littles. I loved how they were totally themselves with each other.
Come to think of it, I loved that Neil never made it a secret that he was a little at all. Of course he hid it from the public, but he made no excuses in his own home and his new bodyguard just had to accept it.
And that's what Brody did. He protected Neil. And to protect him he had to make some rules. Of course these rules sounded more like rules a daddy would set for his boy.
So while Brody didn't have any experience in age-play relationships, it was clear that he was acting like Neil's daddy from the start.
The romance was very sweet and without any hiccups. The mystery was quite obvious from the start, but I didn't care one bit. I just loved these two together.
"I think you're the best Daddy I've ever seen. The nicest and cuddliest. And the strongest with the most muscles. And also the hottest."
I was in the mood was a low angst and really cute story and this one was everything I wanted.
I don’t really know what to say, it was just so damn cute. And I loved everything about it. It made me very happy reading this, it’s a book that makes you feel good and exactly what I wanted at this moment.
Quick summary: Neil is a news anchor and he is treatened and needs a bodyguard, which is when Brody is hired. Neil is a little and he is looking for a daddy and Brody is a former ranger doing his first bodyguard job, he was a dom before but never a daddy, so he isn’t sure if he can make it work, but they do make it work and it’s the cutest thing.
I really loved Neil, I really liked his brand of little where he doesn’t regress as far as littles normally do but to a 7 to 10 years old, it was really cute when he was in his little mode and I really enjoyed reading about that.
And I loved Brody so much. I LOVE when a daddy isn’t perfect (most daddies in books tend to be perfect and I find it really annoying). Brody had his doubts and his flaws and it made him so perfect to me. I loved seeing how he isn’t a perfect man but he’s the perfect man for his boy. And I really loved seeing how he grew into his daddy persona, for someone who never tried to be one before, he was really good as a daddy and so good for his boy.
I loved how Brody took care of Neil, how he made him a schedule, a reward system and punishments if he didn’t follow the rules. Brody was such a good daddy to neil. I just loved these two together, they were so good.
P.S: That sex scene was really hot, I enjoyed it very much.
P.S. 2: I’m really excited to read more of this series, these guys are so good together, I need way more of them!
Same rating as before, this is as a cute, easy read and it was enough to connect with the characters and want to continue with the trilogy again!
4 stars August 2022
a quick easy read. this was a daddy/middle book (yes still trying to figure out if age play is something i like reading... i mean i don't hate it but i don't absolutely love it...yet)
Brody and Neil were adorable, it was a novella so for this short of a book the relationship didn't feel as rushed as i thought, but the declarations of "I love you's" kinda did. haha
overall i really enjoyed it, now on to book two, this will be a very fast read of a series since its made up of novellas.
This is such a cute and action-packed novella. It has some of my favourite tropes and I was just so excited to get started with it. Gladly, it did not disappoint except that it was just too short. Neil Klein was a famous news anchor who got into a bit of trouble and protection service. He's a Middle, cats lover and all he wanted was acceptance for who he was. Brody was ex-military with a traumatic past. The past wasn't elaborated much so the whole novella was very low angst. I am definitely going to follow this series of shorts.
What a fantastic read. Neil someone who needs a special kind of man, Brody someone who never gave this type of relationship a second thought. When Neil is put in danger his boss decides it is time to bring in a bodyguard to keep him safe, it has to be someone who knows a little about the kink lifestyle though. Welcome Brody a military man who has his own reasons for walking away from the lifestyle, when they meet both are shocked by each other's reactions. Can Brody be the daddy Neil needs, and can Neil help Brody find his way?
Nice sweet daddy/boy story. You kinda figured out the who did it early because well it’s not a long story, but it was fun and sweet. The writing was good, the smexy was good and I love that there was a baby girl friend.
3% - There is some days I only survive because of coffee.
8% - Neil Klein not only inserted his entire foot in his mouth while having his head up his ass but he made an enemy he cannot afford to have.
14% - What kind of “news” place/channel allows you to just bluntly talk about sex and crack jokes on air. If all news was like this I think more people would watch.
18% - Talk about laying it on thick when laying down the rules.
22% - if there is a hit man in this book I already know who the hit man is.
28% - DNF. It’s just not what I’m looking for. Nothing wrong with the book. It’s just not what I’m looking for.
Favorite Quotes:
"Get in here and have a seat. Can I get you something to drink? I can't promise my coffee is strong enough to peel paint, but it's hot and wet."
I looked around to make sure nobody was in this part of the hallway before stopping to stomp my foot. “No, Uncle Jim. I don’t want some big beefy guy following me around and watching everything I do. That sounds super sucky.”
“Mostly because I didn’t trust anyone who smiled enough to dry their teeth out.”
Good plot, but not my kink. I picked this up because I love Susi Hawke and I thought that age play meant there would be an age difference between MC's. I was wrong. I was soooo very wrong. Apparently when they say age play they meant the character Neil likes to pretend he's a little boy. Like the kind of boy who needs a big strong daddy to tuck him in at night and read him bedtime stories. NOT my idea of hot. But I loved the whole wounded soldier turned bodyguard angle as Brody takes on the duty of protecting Niel. Plus it's a fairly short book so I stuck with it. Really it was my fault for not reading the summary before downloading. I'm willing to continue the series so long as there's no more of this 'little' age play kink. So NOT my bag.
Not gonna lie, I was worried that this ended on a cliffhanger, but thankfully an unbelievable ending saved it and they got a HFN.
Michael D did a wonderful job with the narration.
Just as a heads up, this is a trilogy and that omnibus is available on audible in case you are like me and forget to check that before buying this title.
A cute little story I won with Neil, a smart mouthed news anchor who made some comments about a gang member who threatened him and has now been released from prison. Brody is an ex military (former Dom, after being held captive he's kind of out of the lifestyle) and it turns out Neil is a middle who not only needs a bodyguard but a Daddy. I liked Neil's personality when he was little and that he really wanted to be a good boy. When he would get made at Brody it was kind of cute. I will probably pick up the other books in the trilogy because reading Neil was quite a feel-good event for me.
A gruff ex-Ranger and a cute news anchor who happens to be a little/middle. Throw in some danger and suspense and you get a cute fun read. Neil is an adorable middle and Mr. Brody is finding it hard to admit that the Daddy role fits him to a tee! Overall this was an enjoyable read.
I wanted to give this the full 5 stars but there was a certain cheese level I just couldn’t get past. Neil was adorable and it was so easy to see how Brody fell for him. It was also obvious from the start who the conflict was about, which was part of the cheese factor for me.
Of course Michael Dean killed this narration as he always does!
It is refreshing to read about a Daddy and a middle. This was a kick butt story. I loved the plot and the way they settled into a routine. Highly recommend!
Neil is known for his straight forward with humor statements but this time, it might have gotten him in more trouble than he can deal with. Brody is brought in for protection since he has additional abilities that other bodyguards wouldn't have. As a middle (absolutely adorable), Neil needs someone he trusts to be around him all the time. As these two grow closer and a bond is formed, you will find yourself cheering them on. I absolutely loved this story and all the characters in it.
This is a really sweet and endearing story. I love Brody protectiveness and Neil bratty self and how they try to find their pace to create something amazing together. Another little masterpiece by Susan Hawke. Simply wonderful!
I absolutely loved this story it was really good. It didn't have much angst and was a good little mystery. I loved all the characters and I really think Rico should get a story of his own.
Neil is a sassy morning news anchor and Brody is the ex soldier with a heart. Good story building and hopefully the start of a Great new series. However after reading this I dare you not to think about your favorite news people as middles and littles!!
