When a crisis hits, does doubt arise?Does uncertainty ever threaten your faith in God’s promises? Or do you sometimes wonder whether His promises can be trusted? Perhaps you know about God, but are you confident that you really know Him?
Without a Doubt is for anyone who wrestles with the certainty of their faith or if the promises of Christianity are true. Pastor Dean Inserra lays out what the Bible teaches about how to have saving faith in God. You’ll learn the clear truth about who a Christian is—and who a Christian is not. This book will address your doubts and give you the confidence that comes by understanding the essentials of faith, finding assurance of your own salvation, and by learning the marks of a transformed life.
DEAN INSERRA is a graduate of Liberty University and holds a M.A. in Theological Studies from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is pursuing a D. Min. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and is the founding pastor of City Church. He is passionate about reaching the city of Tallahassee with the Gospel, to see a worldwide impact made for Jesus. Dean is married to Krissie and they have two sons, Tommy and Ty, and one daughter, Sally Ashlyn. He likes baseball, wrestling, and the Miami Hurricanes. He believes Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback and that everyone who disagrees holds the right to be wrong.
Steeped in religion and full of illustrations, quotes and his own experiences This felt more like a Sunday sermon than a book offering any significant depth.
Without a Doubt by Dean Inserra offers some meaningful insights into the assurance of salvation and the differences between true and false Christianity, but it ultimately fell short for me. The book’s brevity is both a strength and a weakness. On the positive side, it’s a quick read, and Inserra’s approachable, straightforward writing style makes it accessible to a wide audience. His use of relatable illustrations, quotes, and personal anecdotes adds a conversational tone that some readers may find engaging, especially those new to exploring questions about faith and salvation. However, the concise format sacrifices depth. Many important theological issues are only superficially addressed, leaving the content feeling lightweight. For a topic as profound as understanding one’s standing with God, the discussions lack the depth needed to provide truly satisfying answers or to engage readers who are already familiar with Christian teachings. The book also tends to feel repetitive, with its focus on identifying false assurance overshadowing a more nuanced exploration of scripture.
At times, it reads more like a Sunday sermon than a comprehensive book, with anecdotes and illustrations taking center stage rather than substantial theological exploration. While this approach may resonate with certain readers, it falls flat for those seeking a deeper, more robust discussion of faith.
Overall, Without a Doubt may serve as a helpful resource for those new to these questions or looking for a simple, straightforward guide. However, for readers searching for more comprehensive or theologically rich material, this book might leave them wanting more.
Aside from human sin if we could label one primary cause of both a lack of assurances and a faulty assurance, it's confusion over what the gospel is not. It is trendy to claim that one needs to be known for more what they are "against". While that suggestion certainly holds merit, often times it takes understanding what something is not in order to grasp what something actually is. The question of what is not the gospel is equally important has what is the gospel.
With 5 short chapters we can begin to understand what assurance of faith really means. The confusion of the gospel is center to doubt of the gospel. To me this is a lifetime of working out your salvation. This is not the same as working for salvation. The barriers to belief. What is truth. How do we view sin and holiness? The essentials of saving faith leads us to the blessed assurance and shows our faith true.
This is a good reminder to the gospel and how we construe it. It is easy for us to do. Encouraging read of faith.
A Special thank you to Moody Publishers and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
As a Christian, do you ever struggle with whether you are a true believer or not? Do you wonder if when you die you'll enter the kingdom of God?
In this short book, Dean Inserra provides scriptural evidence that demonstrates unequivocally that we can be assured of your salvation and standing in Christ. He begins by tearing down false assurance, and then musters Bible passages that prove that assurance is guaranteed if one is a true believer. Coupled with the scriptural references, he quotes a few theologians who explain some of those verses.
Overall, it's a biblically based book that clarfies what true assurance is and how we can be assured that we are truly saved.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a great start for a knew believer to point towards true acceptance of Jesus's sacrifice for us. Jesus died for us, we are forgiven and a gift to us that is not earned.
I felt like this book was largely quotes from others. Helpful but felt more of a guidance book of quotes and not so much personal story. There were some personal stories which were nice. However, I struggled with how this was wrote up altogether. I could have gone without all the COVID-19 references. I appreciated the bible verses and those are key. Thank you to Netgalley and Moody Publishers for this digital ARC copy.
If you need reassurance that you are saved and going to Heaven this is just the book for you. With even long time Christians unsure of their future this is sadly an essential book for the time. I was given this book by Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary and impartial review.
