This is my story of growing up in a small, midwest Nebraska town, while often looking at maps of Northern Canada and dreaming. As I tried to imagine what it would be like to actually walk the trails connecting these remote places, I had no idea that this would eventually happen. To walk, work, and live in isolated regions of Ontario, British Columbia and the Yukon has given me a great appreciation for the God who created this world. Many lessons were learned, some from listening, some from failure, but many more through the Grace of God. This journey took me from the north shore of the Yukon Territory, Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territory, to the remote jungles of South America.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book. I happen to know a few of the authors family members but don’t know the author himself so made the reading a little more personal for me. But, the book offers so many insights into life and the fact that as much as we want to dictate or control what happens, we can’t and don’t. Reading stories like this about what others face in life and the results helps to right your own course as well when you realize that your life complications aren’t insurmountable. The common theme is “who” is in control. I received inspiration in reading the book, especially the excerpts at the end about “Inspirations. When you have gone through those times when you just feel like your life lacks purpose, inspiration or a meaningful direction, it helps to read material like this book that lets you know you aren’t alone in those times. Knowing “Who” you dedicate your life and life path to is so powerful and demonstrated throughout the book.
The adventures, challenges and courage displayed by John and his family through all the moves and changes were inspirational and challenging. Enjoyed the book!
This book has a few minor writing or typing errors, but the true life landmark events are worthwhile and inspiring. This narrative gets better and better as the book progresses and provides a legacy any family can be proud of. I'm pleased to recommend it.
