Avelyn Paige is the mischief-maker behind steamy dark romance, gritty mafia love stories, and high-octane motorcycle club tales that have blazed their way onto the Wall Street Journal and USA TODAY bestseller lists. She calls Indiana home, where she lives with her husband and five furry troublemakers who think they’re her editors.

When she’s not fighting the good fight in cancer research, Avelyn trades test tubes for plot twists and dives into worlds filled with danger, devotion, and deliciously bad decisions. She writes romance because it’s the one place where chaos and love can coexist, bullets can fly, hearts can heal, and everyone still gets the kind of ending worth fighting for.

After losing her dad in 2015, she turned heartbreak into creativity and never looked back. Now, she’s on a mission to prove that even the darkest hearts can find redemption, and that love—no matter how twisted—always leaves a mark worth remembering.

It was great to see Kevin and Natalie settle in to their new life with Judge, the first great home they had. So I hated it when Grace threatened everything, even if she had good intentions. It was great when Grace listened to what Judge had to say, which surprised me that he would even try after how things were dealt with. Learning what really happened to Kevin and Natalie changed Grace's mind about things and she made moves to help. It didn't hurt that she started to really "like" Judge.

I hated the drama at the end. Hated that the kids, Grace, Judge and so many others were put in danger, hated what was lost now and in the future and what losses might still happen.

There was one bright spot towards the end and that was learning that something very precious to Judge was not lost years and years ago. Did it suck that there was lost time, yes, but at least now there is time.

Avelyn Paige and Geri Glenn have done it again with Dark Guardian. They wrote a story that wowed me from start to finish. This story was a punch in the gut. It twisted me up inside and broke my heart. But at the same time it was beautiful and a story I just could not put down.

Judge and Grace my have met under funny yet frustrating circumstances, but it quickly transitioned into one of understanding and compassion and love. Love for each other and for the kids that essentially brought them together.

As the story moved along it took so many unexpected twists and turns. I couldn't stop reading once I started. And I was so emotionally invested when it ended. I cannot wait for the next book.

Judge and Grace could not be more different but at the same time the same. Judge now having to raise Kevin and Natalie two orphaned kids, knows it will not be easy but nothing in life is. As he does his best in comes Grace, a goody two shoe social worker that thinks the kids are in harm’s way being with Judge. While they both want what is best for the kids they failed to realize that they both as well deserve happiness and a family. There is plenty of emotions in this story with so many twists and that ending was a shocker so be ready. Kara~ 4.5 Stars

This book is amazing!!! It is one of those that you are not going to be able to put down. I have to say that I was not much of a fan of Grace in the beginning of this book. She just got one my last nerve and I really wanted to shake her and smack some sense into her. Judge is the president of the Black Hood Mc as has taken in two kids whose mother is gone and had no other family. He was their protector and their fathers. I loved this man. He made me smile so big at times. And this man has not had a great life at all but he has so much to give that he doesn't even realize it. These kids were happier than they ever have been and thriving with the schedule that is set for them. They had never known a life like this. But,.....a report leads to Grace, who is a social worker, having to investigate. This book is an emotional rollercoaster ride that you won't get off. Grace redeemed herself in my eyes and I liked her more as the book went on and I just fell in love with Judge. What a great book this is.

I got to just past the halfway mark before I gave up. I didn't like Grace. Her character was confusing. On one hand, she knew exactly how the kids in the story were feeling, having a similar background to theirs. Yet, she was uncompromising and made decisions that just made everything worse. Surely, having the background she did with the knowledge she supposedly has a social worker meant she would make better choices (and not be careless about those choices). But no.

If I'm going to continue reading a book there has to be something compelling or interesting about one of the main characters. And while I liked Judge, I wanted him to choose a different heroine. Because he didn't (lol), I didn't want to continue reading.

Maybe others will find it a great read because there are definitely things I enjoyed (Judge, the kids, even some of the MC members)...I just wish it had worked for me.

From the outside looking in Judge may appear to not be the appropriate role model that Kevin and Natalie need but appearances can be deceiving. Due to his past he knows that he can give them everything they need and more and he isn’t about to allow anyone to come between them.

Grace is a social worker who is dedicated to her job. She wants to ensure that the children thrive in the situation that is best for them and from her first impression she doesn’t believe that is Judge. As they spend time together she realizes there is much more to Judge than first appears and when the danger escalates around them there isn’t anyone she would rather have in her corner.

Intrigue, surprises and romance take you on a wild ride you won’t soon forget.

This story had the right amount of action, drama, sweetness and suspense to keep me thoroughly engrossed from beginning to end. Judge is now raising two teenagers that came from a very bleak situation and had nowhere else to go. But that doesn’t stop Grace from CPS sticking her nose in their affairs. Grace a product of foster care she knew she wanted to go into social work to help kids just like her and she only sees black and white. Will Judge help her see shades of gray? To everyone else Judge is really the big bad MC president of the notorious Black Hoods but with Grace and the kids he’s just a big old softy. When everything goes sideways will he and Grace be able to keep the kids safe? I am chomping at the bit for Karma’s story!!

I read this book in one night... I couldn't stop reading. The Prez's story was Awesome 😁

I was excited to read this one. I wanted to see how Kevin and Natalie got on. And how Judge copped with two kids... And it was so sweet.

I have to say I really didn't like Grace. I wanted to strangle her when she came to take the kids. And how she couldn't see how good Judge was for them... But eventually Judge convinced her and then the action started.

Lots of action, suspense angst you didn't know what was going to happen next. I loved that the minute Grave knew that Judge loved the kids she was all in with them.💖

I can't wait for the next book. Poor Lindsey it just doesn't seem like her life was getting better. And Karma oh man I hope he gets a happily ever after 💖💖💖

It’s a good story, I just had a very hard time warming up to Grace. Her stubborn determination to stick to her guns even when she knew they were wrong made me not like her very much and I couldn’t get over it throughout the book.

I AM SO SO LOVIN THIS SERIES!

This is just another amazing story in this series. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! In books 1&2 I wasn't quite sure how I felt about Judge but little by little he grew on me. Now in this book getting more of his background you find out even though he's hard on the outside he's alittle soft on the inside especially with the little kids. Judge is the President of the Black Hoods MC and by the description the author gives of his character and the model on the cover and WOW. He's a gorgeous big bad@ss alpha who like the rest of his club, protect those who can't protect themselves. In book 2 the guys bust up a sex trafficking ring of children to save one of the members daughters Hayden and in this bust they also save a little girl Natalie and her brother Kevin but unfortunately Kevin was part of the ring because he was being forced by his psychotic perverted uncle and if he didn't do what his uncle said he'd sell his little sister Natalie. So after the guys save the kids Kevin and Natalie have nowhere to go and most of the club brothers were raised in foster care and Judge has been alone for so long he's been looking for something or someone in his life he takes the two kids in to live with him and give them a good life together. Then everything is going great until Judge registers them in school and because of paperwork, attention it s brought to the kids and CPS is contacted which brings us Grace. Grace is a beautiful woman both inside and out and she was raised in the foster care system so when she grew up she wanted to help other kids in the system but as the years go on she's starting to feel lost and depressed by all the red tape and hoops to be jumped through the system is getting harder and harder to help people and she's exhausted. When she gets contacted about Kevin and Natalie she steps in to help and she gets the surprise of her life because she not only meets the kids but also Mr. Judge. Lol. When they first meet in the bar I busted out laughing when he confuses her for a stripper. It was hilarious. At times I was laughing and at times I was crying. This book is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time but most of the time its full of twists and turns and ups and downs just like a rollercoaster ride. It's a very emotional read. At times the excitement was so intense I couldn't read fast enough and I almost peed my pants because I didn't want to put it down. Lol. Finding out about Judges loss was so sad but it helps you understand another reason why he wants to help these kids. However, Grace comes in with some baggage of her own. A cop friend named Aaron who wants to be more than Graces friend and he brings a sh*t storm of chaos with him. Just when things start to calm down alittle and things take a turn for Grace and Judge another problem arises and Judges niece and his club brother Karma get caught in the crossfire and it is so heartbreaking I had tears running down my face. I loved every minute of it and I can't freakin wait to get to the next book. I did not see that ending coming but HOLY FREAKIN MOLY what an ending! But now I want more or that story. I want a novella or something to carry on that ending. Lol. I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES TO EVERYONE!

The Dedication will put a smile on your face.

Grace has a tough job – you can’t please everyone. It also doesn’t make her happy. Judge has you thinking he’s an honorable man in one breath and in the next you’re thinking hound dog. I loved the good chuckle I got from their first meeting. I think you might enjoy it as well.

Was also happy to see that this isn’t an insta-love story. Loved the push and pull to see who will come out on top – it will be interesting to see who actually wins the war. Our authors do a great job of stoking the flame when our couple ends up not fighting for the space at the top.

There’s just the right amount of suspense to grab my attention. How can I ever find the perfect stopping point when I can’t even stop saying “one more page”. I keep wanting to see what’s coming next. If I stop then what will I miss if I don’t turn that page. The hardest part for me out of this whole thing was having enough patience to wait after finishing book two and finally getting my hands on this latest in the series. Our authors show that it was worth the wait.

While enjoying this book, I don’t sit and try and figure out what Ms. Paige or Ms. Glenn contributed. They give their readers something unexpected in the Epilogue. Usually that’s reserved for the main characters’ happy ending. Not here – we get a sneak peek into who the next book is about. That was a smart move because it gets the reader excited about book four of the Black Hoods MC.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Dark Guardian (Black Hood MC # 3) by Avelyn Paige, Geri Glen is the story of Judge the president of the MC. We got the beginning of this story in book 2. Now the kids have adjusted to being with Judge and are thriving after all they have been through.  Starting school has put them on the radar of child services. Grace is a workaholic social worker whose life only consist of her clients and a old homeless man she spends time with on Fridays. The real story begins when Judge and Grace meet. She is determined to take the kids and place them in a suitable home and Judge is not letting anyone take away his kids. When the birth father makes his desires known, it takes this story in a different direction. Grace is leery of the dad and knows something is off. I really enjoyed the characters in this story. When I started this book I didn't put it down till I finished it. Started Saturday morning and finished early Saturday afternoon. This story definitely took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I was taken on many highs and lows. At one point I gasped out loud. You will know when you get there and I didn't see it coming. Yes the story was pushed back a bit. It was well worth the wait. I am so looking forward to the next book. Was left on a high/low that has me salivating for the resolutions in book 4. 5 stars for me.

Eugene “Judge” Grant, Grace Halfpenny, Kevin, Natalie

When I first met Judge, I didn't like him. During that time, it seemed like him stopping the dog fighting ring was more important that protecting the woman that one of his men cared about and even his niece.

Once he decided to take in these two traumatized kids though, I had his back. Which is why I didn't initially like Grace. Yes, I know she was doing her job, but lady read the freakin' room.

Once I got past that I thought the book was really good. Judge was going to do everything in his power to protect Kevin and Natalie and so were the rest of the members of the MC and their old ladies. And Grace once she realized that going completely by the law in this instance may not have been the best thing for these kids.

I was really glad that some kind of instinct took place with she met the ass who claimed to be their father, even if she kept spouting her BS at first, but she saw the error of her ways and that's all that matters.

Her cop friend. Is he the same asshole that wasn't taking anyone seriously that had anything to do with the MC? I wish that would have come up during this book, because he seemed so obsessed with thinking they are bad men, without really having anything to substantiate his claim.

And poor Lindsey and Karma. At this point I felt like that poor girl had been through enough.

Judge & Grace

The hard president of the Black Hoods MC took in two kids whose mother was gone and had no other family. He'd become their protector and father. He was good to them in a way no one would have thought possible. The kids were happy getting into a regular schedule they'd never known before. Until...

Grace worked hard every day to make sure kids didn't live through what she had as a child. A caseworker, she took pride in helping in any way she could. She wasn't always happy with the outcome in some of her cases but she did the best she could. When the kids with Judge were reported she had to investigate.

When there seems to be a path will danger end all chances?

An emotional ride with two older characters who didn't think love was in the cards for them. Is there any way for them to find a family saving the kids and themselves by becoming a family? Another touching story with everything a fan needs, a strong couple who fights for what is right for them, lots of steam, and an MC loyal to their family, and protective.

This one and the series are great reads and will satisfy romance and MC fans alike.

This third book in the Black Hoods MC series is quite an emotional one, just saying, but it is also another fabulous story.

Judge, the President of the Black Hoods MC, has accepted the role of guardian to two teenage children and things are going along quite well until Grace Halfpenny, a social worker, comes along to enquire about the legality of his guardianship.

We really get to know more about Judge even though in book two, Dark Secret, he divulged some background information that was huge. He is a definite leader and is a great president but also a fierce protector of the weaker and mistreated. His alpha ways, which could have sent Grace in a tailspin and very nearly did, makes her more determined to do what is right.

I like Grace’s spunk and the way she won’t let anyone walk all over her. She has such a huge heart, about the size of Texas I’d say. The chemistry she has with Judge is red hot and he certainly knows how to light her fire!

There is plenty of action to keep the heart rate ticking at a fast pace, as well as great twists and turns in the storyline. The main reasons for my extra half a star.

I totally recommend this book, in fact this series.

So confused

Spoiler a bit

I was not even sure I wanted to read Judges book cause of how he was in the first book of this series.

I love the premise this book could have been! I would have wanted in the end more about what happened. Cause we don't even get closure for Judge and Grace as a couple. It's like the got the story out and did not find the need to finish really. Felt like I was missing some pages to get that good end feeling . It bothered me that almost 40 % in in a book.that is just 200 and some pages. They are just meeting. And then it's just fast passed insanity. The 2½- 3 stars are cause I loved the story and the characters. But for me that HEA feeling was missing. Cause they never have a talk about it. She talks to Blair and Lindsey about club life and there she is not sure she can be with him and is insecure about the half naked ladies much younger then her. And no talk with him is made. It felt like a good base for a story but a TON of stuff was just skipped. This is a safe read with no cheating and no Ow drama. There is some small OM drama but it's more of a foot note then anything.

Okay this one I enjoyed the plot quite a bit! There was minimal to no spice in my humble opinion but I loved that the focus was not on that and was on the kids. It was very insta-love for me again, but I don't know sometimes I enjoy that. Its just so easy and not super complicated. I also enjoyed that this one truly carried over from book 2. You could totally read this as a stand alone but it connects a lot of books from book 2's story.

I also loved getting a deeper dive at Judge! It was so cute to see him in the paternal instinct rather than the bad ass leader of a motorcycle club light that he was shone in in the first two books. Overall, I enjoyed this! Again, if you are looking for some life changing, beautiful classic literature this isn't it (and honestly just steer clear of my page because I have accepted that I am just not that book girly), but if you want a quick, easy read that has a guaranteed happy ending and is just kind of feel good and morally grey, this one is for you! I already have the next four on my shelf in my libby app and I can't wait to dive into them.

This book had an interesting start. The fact that Judge taking these kids and protecting them ended up being reported to Child Services was an angle you don't see in books often. Most of the time people do things and they just get away with it or talk their way out of trouble.
With Grace, I understand her job but unfortunately situations like this aren't always black and white. The fact she never once took what the kids said into consideration really annoyed me.
Yes she eventually came around but if your first instinct is to just take the kids without looking into the whole situation then you could do more harm than good. Same with the reverse leaving kids in a situation and not looking into it and doing harm that way.
I think Grace's character needed to be more aware of the things going on around her as well get better at reading people as the man she nearly gave the kids over to was a sick sick man and she would have removed them from a place of safety.
She had an air of superiority about her that I am glad wasn't there the whole book but I do think this has the potential to be better if some character traits were different.

This MC series is not what I usually expect from an MC genre story, there’s no gore or torture but there is suspense, drama and lots of brotherhood; plus a good strong feeling of family love protection. The book is really tense and has a couple of great twists and I did enjoy reading it.

Judge and Grace don’t start out on the best of terms, she’s the enemy ... a social worker who wants to take Judge’s orphaned kids away from him. His two kids were in the previous book and they are great kids too. The main characters were well written, I particularly liked the grumpy MC president and the uppity social worker.

The backstories of all involved are heartbreaking and made me love them all the more; I teared up on occasion too. The other members of the Black Hood MC have fantastic nicknames that make me chuckle.

This is a fairly quick read with a good plot. For me, if it had been longer with more drama and more grit and gore it would have been even better. I do like a bit more violence in my MC books as a rule but this had some elements I loved.

I absolutely freakin loved this latest story in the Black Hoods MC series! Grace is a social worker who is very dedicated to her job and doing the right thing. Judge is the prez of the Black Hoods MC and is taking care of 2 young kids who were in a bad situation. When Grace gets a call from the school about the 2 kiddos in Judge's care she immediately starts questioning and investigating. Initially she believes that Judge and the MC isn't a good role model for these kids but the more time that she spends with Judge and the kiddos, she realizes that not everything is what it seems at first glance and that Judge is exactly what the kids need and quite frankly what Grace needs and didn't know it. I loved the push and pull between the two...once they fell they fell hard. I loved every minute of this book, I laughed, cried, swooned during the hot steamy moments. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time reading their story and by far this is my favorite out of this amazing series. I can't wait for more and I highly recommend this book hands down. Well done!!!!

Judge & Grace: triggers- trafficking, assault, abuse of authority, hostage taking, loss, custody battles. This book picks up right after the previous book. Judge now has the physical custody of two kids now, though not exactly legal. The kids are trying to get to a normal way of life, getting back in school when someone reports to DCFS that something is suspicious about the man who enrolled them. Grace is a social worker who gets the call about the kids that Judge has and like a dog with a bone she begins her investigation. Only things are not always what they seem and the well being if the kids are what's at stake. This book will make a person think twice about making assumptions. It's a short story but a good one. Judge is definitely a protective papa best and will do anything for his kids. He doesn't care that they are not his blood. There are some hot moments but I didn't really feel to much of a connection with Grace and Judge because the book focused more of the kids but it was a good story.

Outstanding MC Read! The authors gave us an amazing storyline for Judge, the Black Hoods MC’s Prez. If you’ve kept up with the series you know Judge has just taken in two children that they rescued from a trafficking ring. While we know very little about Judge’s past, we know he’s a good man with a heart of gold when it comes to his club, his MC brothers and those two kids. All of whom he has and will do whatever it takes to keep safe and protected.

But when one Sassy, Sexy, Headstrong, social worker (Grace) butts in not only his and the kids lives but the clubs and everything he holds dear, chaos ensues. Can Judge convince her he’s not the bad guy she thinks he is and let him keep the kids the easy way? Or must he show her just exactly what he’s capable of? Can Grace convince Judge she just doing her job and the right thing for the kids?

Awesome suspenseful storyline that tugs at the heartstrings. Can’t wait for more from the Black Hood MC.

HOLY HELL! I had so many emotional responses to this edge of my seat story that I was exhausted after finishing it. Grace is a social worker who always puts the job first, and it's for this reason that she gets a case that has her interacting with the Black Hoods MC, since the president, Eugene "Judge" Grant who has a couple of orphan kids he's taking care of but she can't find any legal documentation for it (and she's been told some stuff) so a wild journey commences. All the chaos that follows is crazy but luckily, Grace & Judge end up being able to deal with each other, and hell, more since they have some insane chemistry producing super sexy times. This is a fantastic story filled with twists, danger, action, heat, laughter, and love so yeah, I couldn't get enough of it, and now I'm sitting here impatiently waiting on the next book. What a dynamic duo these two authors make so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Dark Guardian is the third title in the Black Hoods MC series, and whilst you could read it as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the previous books so you will understand the backstory of characters who appear throughout.
Eugene “Judge” Grant is president of the Black Hoods MC. He’s taken in two children and raising them as his own. He may be gruff and brooding, but under his protection, care and affection Natalie and Kevin are thriving and just beginning to trust when their world implodes. Social worker Grace Halfpenny is made aware of their situation and has a tendency to follow the letter of the law.
This title is an emotional, angsty, story full of twists and turns, action, intrigue and suspense that is sure to keep you invested until the very last page.
I look forward to Lindsey and Karma’s story next.

Emotional ・Suspenseful ・Heartwarming ・Heart Racing

The Black Hoods MC President 'Judge' has taken on the fierce roll as Protector of Kevin and Natalie, the children who in Dark Secret we learnt of their heartbreaking story.
However, when Child Services discover Judge's Guardianship is not legal Judge and Grace cross paths and everything starts too unravel for these characters.
Riddled, with action, suspense, angst, some serious alpha ness, and a dash of steam this story had me on the edge of my seat with a racing heart, sighing in frustration, locating some much needed tissues, and left me both with an aching and warmed heart.
Oh Gosh with that build up I desperately need Book 4!!! OH MY HEART!! I'm thinking tissues will be required again....

Another wonderful story from these authors.

I have to say in this story Judge really stole my heart. Here he was this bad boy biker who was an older man on top of that but had a special place in his heart for 2 kids that were not his own. He was willing to step up and be a dad. I admire that in this character.

Grace I know when she started her day out the day she met the 2 kids Judges was watching did not realize how much it would really change her life. I love the fact that she was a strong woman whose heart was in the right place. She truly wanted what was best for the kids she was helping.

I loved the chemistry between Judge and Grace. I think this story will have a little for everyone and let me tell you the ending will just melt your heart. This is a book so shelf worthy.

Book three in the Black Hoods MC series sees the MC President, Judge, trying his best to raise two suddenly orphaned children. Social worker Grace however doesn’t think Judge is the best person for the job and it takes something major happening to get her to change her mind, not only about his guardianship of Kevin and Natalie, but also about the man himself.

While this is high on emotions, there is still plenty of action, suspense, twists and turns to keep it moving and as with the first two books it drags you in and doesn’t let you go until the end. I love these two writing together and I can’t wait for the next one after that ending. I give Dark Guardian 5 stars.

I was looking forward to Judge’s story and it did not disappoint! To say that Judge and Grace’s first meeting didn’t go well is an understatement…he mistook her for a stripper! Grace’s heart is in the right place…growing up in the foster system gives her a heart for the kids. When she perceives that two orphans, Kevin & Natalie, are illegally in the care of Judge, Grace endeavors to get them to somewhere safe. Perception is a heck of a thing because Grace is so wrong. As Grace investigates further, she gets to know the real Judge and realizes that the kids are safe…but will her heart and job remain intact? Great story…the epilogue is heartbreaking though. Looking forward to the next book.

Judge/Eugene, Kevin and Natalie

This story turned out to be both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Judge always wanted a family and he got part of one when he and the club rescued Hayden, Kevin and Natalie from there uncle who was going to sell them to sex traffickers. Grace works as a social worker and was looking into Judge because she found out he was not a relative, but soon realized that the children were happy and safe with him. They started up their own relationship as well. Judge always thought that his son died two months after birth from SIDS, but Grace gave him a gift at the end and you must read to find out how. Also his niece Lyndsey and her man Karma come into play in the story and you need to read and see what happens with them as well. Happy reading.
