From the author of They Came with the Snow and They Came with the Rain, comes the new and creepy standalone novel, They Came with the Storm.
It started with a raging dust storm. Then they came. And everything changed.
Through an innocent act of mischief, a trio of an ancient witches is unleashed in the small town of Clayton, New Mexico.
Years later, a dust storm suddenly appears across a stretch of Interstate 412, creating a massive crash that includes Chris Boylin and his daughter, Jaycee. They are uninjured, but while Chris goes to assist others who were not so lucky, his daughter disappears.
In the thick air of the storm, just before the clouds clear, Chris sees a pair of haunting shapes outlined in a glow of light.
The search for Jaycee dead ends, but a website article about an abduction in 1939--one eerily similar to Jaycee's--leads Chris to an elderly man named Arthur Richland, whose terrifying childhood story of his sister Ruby just might be the answer to saving a missing girl's life.
What came with the storm? And are they responsible for the mysterious disappearances?
Do not miss this creepy new tale from the author readers are comparing to Dean Koontz and Stephen King. Grab your copy today and prepare to be swept into a story you won't soon forget.
They Came with the Storm is a standalone novel, not part of a series.
Christopher Coleman lives in Maryland with his wife and two children. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in English Literature. A fan of classic and modern horror and thriller movies, his favorite movies are Rosemary's Baby and The Ring. When he's not writing fiction, you can find him reading, taking his kids to and from various sporting activities or watching horror movies with his wife who shares his affinity for the horror genre. His books will creep you out and leave you scared to turn off the lights and go to sleep.
Young boys accidentally release ancient witches. Bad things happen to someone in each of their families. The book spans from 1939 to current day. Very good book!
They Came with the Storm is a creepy and compelling thrill ride of a novel. Here, evil seems to just drip off the pages, while the scares in this novel are pretty light, its intensity comes from the setting itself, the dire circumstances the characters find themselves in, and the utter desperation they feel as they try not to succumb to the inevitable.
This is one of those books that you can fly through at a blistering pace, once you pick it up, you'll find yourself struggling to put it back down. Coleman uses actual historical events to drive his narrative, (huge dust storms that ravaged the lives of many.) However, he brilliantly spins them into malicious, sinister beings that bring about an almost otherworldly evil.
If you're seeking an entertaining horror novel that isn't too disturbing or gross, pick this one up, you won't be disappointed.
Very much in the style of Stephen King, with his location and character descriptions. The book deals with Skadegamutc, or ghost-witch, an undead monster/witch of Native American folk-law. In 1939 three witches were release from their "tomb" when 3 boys removed sacred stones from their confines. With their release they cause mayhem as they seek revenge appearing with the huge dust storms that plague New Mexico. They entrapped the sister of Arthur, the protagonist of the novel, and he relates the story of her return to Chris who has just had his daughter Jaycee taken in the present time.
What a great first read of the year! At first, I was a little underwhelmed, felt it was a bit slow, and wasn't capturing me, but then all of a sudden, WHOOSH!! What a crazy story! It intertwines the present day problem of a parent who's child has essentially disappeared into thin air and an old man, that is living in an old folks home, past. Does Arthur (the old guy) hold the key to finding Chris' daughter? In a wild tale that includes kids growing up in the late 1930s New Mexico, Native American history/lore, and some supernatural stuff that will keep you at the edge of your seat, you should really read this book! Highly recommend!
I don’t know how many times I had to remind myself this was a mentally challenged old man relating memories. I kept saying to myself “this the way it has to be for authenticity.” That was the frustrating part. The subject matter was the fascinating part. I love stories with mystical Native American themes. I really feel we do not give enough credence to this kind of folklore. Loved this story!
Original and well written story with roots from indian mythology. The story starts in the late 30th's and end nowadays and is about acient demonic witches coming back to life and seeking revenge. The story is worth reading for any fans of horror and old mythology coming back to life
I love Christopher Coleman's books. Everyone of them has been a book that stays with me long after reading them. This is no different. It leaves me wishing it was the beginning of a new series. Always fascinating world building that never disappoints! Enjoy...
Interestingly woven tale of love, suspense, other worldly wickedness and the human spirit. Fun read. Couldn't wait to continue each evening. As with all of Coleman's works, well written and engaging. I've read them all and look forward to his next project that I'm sure will be another shell of a ride!
I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I read by this author. Because reviews likened his writing to Stephen King and Dean Koontz I gave it a shot. I'm very happy I did. Will read more of his books.
Thought I was reading a Stephen king book, this was just fantastic. Did not want this book to end yet was dying to see how it would end. Will definitely be following this author and recommend you read this book.
This is a really good and scary story. I enjoyed how author, Christopher Coleman, weaved the legend into the telling of the story steadily revealing what had, was and would happen.
Great read! Enjoyed the family dynamics between the main characters. I especially liked how the author merged the present and past to convey the story. Nice lightweight horror story to read.
This was an interesting read. I gue,ss that the indigenous angle made it more intriguing, knowing little of the New Mexico tribes. I did enjoy it and would recommend it.
Awesome story! Really grips you and has you glued to try and finish as fast as can. Getting to the end is your goal but the story within the story is reverting. Should be made into a movie for TV. Definitely recommend the book and author!!
This book sent me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and I loved it. I can easily understand why the author is being compared to Dean Koontz and Stephen King. I had to finish it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down.
I like it, every page of the book was very exciting and want to know what will happen next. Mind blowing. Christopher Coleman is a good authour and I can't wait to read his other books his written.
I thoroughly enjoyed the way that the story line was written. The author does a wonderful job telling an old mans story through the eyes of his much younger self.
This was a great use of actual history, I remember reading about the the great dust storms, whole families moving from the prairie lands. This book had great story line.
