The feels!!!

Now I can't wait for "Brothersong" -- even worse than before I'd read part 2 of Elizabeth's story.

3.5*

Over too quickly, yet as I've come to expect from this series stings like tiny papercuts across the scabs created by last books...not in a bad way tho ✌🏼🫠

I'm not ready to pick up the final book yet, so going to take refuge elsewhere till the weekend when I can get properly lost in it 😅

One day, all will be well.

Until then, they’ll do as they always have. They’ll fight with everything they have.

For the wolves, the ravens, the hearts and the brothers.

They will fight.

And when the fighting is done, they will live, because that’s what they deserve.

“They are Bennetts. They have blood on their hands, and once again, they’re fighting for their lives.”

I was not expecting everything that this little novella was. The rage and pain and sorrow and the lashing out. It's perfect, of course, it is, but it caught me by surprise.

In a way, I suppose, it's very similar to its first part but, at the same time, maybe because of the more pointed interaction, it felt, well, as the perfect continuation and not a pointless replica. Which I'm glad for.

There's really not much to say over it aside from the fact that I totally loved it and it continued to break my heart.

“Her words are a promise, a Lovesong she’ll sing for the rest of her days,”

It's easy to feel the nearness of the ending in Lovesong Part II. So easy.

There's a promise in it, a finality, a done-ness about it that telegraphs clearly that everyone is quite ready to finish what was started. That there's no place for more hesitation or circumvention.

More than anything, it's a silent battle-cry that will ring in my ears for the months to come.

“Their strength is his strength. Their love is his love. And one day – maybe not tomorrow or the day after, but one day – she’ll look upon him again and the world will shake under the might of it. They’re the goddam Bennett Pack, and their song will always be heard.”

This is way too short. I need more ASAP!

If there's one thing this novella taught me is that I'm NOT ready for Brothersong and all the ways it's gonna destroy my heart... but it also reassures me that I'm gonna adore it.

I need more Elizabeth's POVs. I'm pretty sure I could resume the whole thing into that.

RTC.

After reading part 1 I can't wait to get more of Elizabeth's POV. Her perspective as a mother breaks my heart every time.

She may be of my favorite of all the characters.

And, on the plus side, not that I needed one, it just came out so, for once, I'm not late to this party.

It was an okay short story, mainly from Elizabeth's point of view. Carter is obviously missed by everyone and I'm really looking forward to reading from his perspective in the next and also last book of the Green Creek series. Can't wait for October to come!

I listened to Lovesong Part II as soon as the notification pinged on my phone that narration by the estimable Kirt Graves was available on the "The Klunatics Podcast".

28:25 minutes of bliss.

Note: Lovesong Part II is not a standalone. Please do not attempt to listen to this prior to reading/listening to Wolfsong, Ravensong, Lovesong, Heartsong, and Feralsong.

I always love to hear things from Elizabeth’s POV.
And here it’s her sorrow after Carter leaves and her regret and anguish about the past.
But the person who stands out for me in this novella is Joe.
Again we’re made aware how far he has come, and what a stellar man he is.
Loved this to bits.

Elizabeth is imagining the first encounter of Carter and Gavin if they weren't Bennet and Livingstone. And it's bittersweet. And it's just a dream.
She is strong, but everyone needs to cry when they are feeling like it, and Ox is there for her, as her sons.

Lovesong Part One: “Before they leave, she tells Gordo she’ll kill him if anything happens to them under his watch. She’s lying. She’s tired of death.”

Lovesong Part Two: “She’d told him she’d kill him if anything happened to her children. And worst of all, she’d meant it.”

Well? Which is it? 🤣🤣
