The saga continues in the page-turning Earth Song series. With only four years left until the Kimprak asteroid ship arrives in our solar system to launch their invasion of Earth, Lauren, Jack and the team must track down Lucy’s waking micro minds so they can protect our world from the Overseers. But on the eve of launching a network of CubeSats, Tom is still missing in the field. What happened to him and why is Alice, president of the Sky Dreamer Corp, so evasive whenever his name is brought up? Meanwhile, Tic Tac UFO sightings have significantly increased, along with those of the TR-3B Astras, the top-secret US antigravity military craft. Are these events linked to what Tom was investigating before he so mysteriously disappeared? Back at Eden, Ariel is nearing completion—Sky Dreamer Corp’s own antigravity prototype craft that promises to give them the edge they so badly need in their fight against the Overseers. But with tensions within the team at an all-time high, can Lauren find her feet as the true leader she needs to become to guide the others through their greatest challenge yet? Good yarn and told well generally if you can wade thru the adolescent, teenage angst sections that are more like 16 Candles or the Breakfast Club than a serious sci-fi series. It’s really distracting and really add nothing the the otherwise good story.
Lauren is a jump in first ask questions later kind of gal, so you know keeping a low profile and waiting for a well thought out safe plan is not going to go over well with her - especially when she gets a bead on an easy in and out extraction that will strongly benefit their side.
Yeah, you know how that one went. No plan survives contact with the enemy and all that. This one managed to go sideways in ways that defy belief but lead to some pretty amazing outcomes. Lauren had no idea what she was getting herself into, but I think the other side is way farther out of their depth in terms of having no idea what they are messing with!
There are some incredible planes and flight acrobatics in this one - Cook had to have had fun playing with the physics and flight deck ideas! Lots of action, danger, excitement and even a little romance. Fast paced book that knows how to have fun. Good character development too, some good twists added with this book.
This is the third book in the series meant to be read in order and there are a few parts that build heavily on previous books - or would be HUGE spoilers if you have not read previous books. The ending - the immediate threat is resolved but there is a critical question left open that I am curious to see the outcome of. Time is ticking down as the enemy looms ever closer.
If you're considering the third of this series, you already know how good it is! Be assured that Nick Cook is still compelling and very much upped his game. Unlike some series that kinda bogged down somewhere after the first couple of books. (Granted, ufology has rich material to draw upon, but the conspiracy guys aren't the only ones with a good imagination!) The character arc shows the authors commitment to relate very human responses to extraordinary situations.
This series just gets better and better. With each book the team finds another part of the minds and there ID always action and adventure included. There is even a little romance thrown in. But the best part is the reality that something is coming to destroy the Earth and the effort the team is putting in to find all the minds so Lucy can help them develop a strategy to defeat the alien threat. I can't wait to read the next book and find out what's next.
My favourite book of the series so far. As my previous reviews for the other books, I really like the simplicity of the sci fi. It’s not too far fetched, and definitely keeps you gripped. The books seems to be full of action all the way though. I like the way it’s detailed so that it paints a great picture in your mind, and feels like you could be there. Hope the books keep on coming.
I'm enjoying the series and found book three to be as exciting as the first two. The typos, missing words and character name spelling changes were distracting. (Niki was spelled three different ways.) I look froward to reading book 4 and the rest of the series.
After reading the first two installments I was really ready for Earth Shout. But it really exceeded my expectations. The author used all of the available story lines and added more to the mix.
In the beginning of this book there is a highly advanced alien AI that creates relationship drama with two humans. I almost gave up on the book. Thankfully the plot moved on and I enjoyed the adventure, advanced technology and alien reveals.
Nick Cooke continues to deliver a tour de force journey at breakneck pace. Join Lauren and her friends as they race to save everything and everyone from looming extinction. Earth Song just keeps getting better and better.
Action packed story continuing the search for a means to stop the impending alien invasion. Efforts are blocked by the Overseers but Lauren and her crew prevail.
I enjoyed reading this book. Not too heavy or wordy , just a good book to enjoy. Loved the story line and how the characters developed though the trilogy.
