Neil Patrick Harris is an American actor, producer, director, magician, comedian and singer. He is best known for playing Barney Stinson in the television comedy series How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014), for which he was nominated for four Emmy Awards. As a child star he played the title character in Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989–1993). He is also known for his role as the title character in Joss Whedon's musical Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (2008) and a fictional version of himself in the Harold & Kumar film series (2004–2011). He has also appeared in the films Starship Troopers (1997), Beastly (2011), The Smurfs (2011), The Smurfs 2 (2013) and Gone Girl (2014). This is my favorite of the series so far. Very cute story with creepy ventriloquist dummies. Theo, one of the members of the Magic Misfits, gets his first crush. The group works together to solve a mystery, while also learning that friendships can take work to maintain, and they are going to have disagreements from time to time. Some jealousy also arises between Theo, whose family discourages him from learning magic, and the other group members who have families that support their hobby.

There's only one left book in the quartet and I can't wait!

I adore this series. I love the diversity in the cast of characters and I love that each book focuses on a specific member of the Misfits, yet doesn't lose the thread of the over-arching story line. Great fun and a great read!

I feel things are left in a beat up, half put together bow. Like, "Oh yeah. I tied it up. But without breaking up the friends first so you know... Happy?" No I am not.

This book was quite a bit darker than those before it. The magic misfits are also constantly bickering in this book which grates after a while.

The change of narrator again in this book also jarred a bit, it would be better to have had a constant voice for the characters.

Another fun read in the Magic Misfits series. It wasn't fantastic, but it was enjoyable. I like the whimsical style and the acknowledgement that magic can be found anywhere, made by anyone. You just have to be looking for it.

I'm honestly not sure where this story is going. I think there is only one more book (which will focus on Ridley?) and I'm not sure how it can wrap all of this up. It seems like the mystery is only getting bigger.

The twins are my favorite part. They make me laugh every time they appear.

Tre Hall was a decent narrator, but I had the same problem with this installment that I did with the second one: the change in narrator doesn't fit the story, since most of the time it appears to be being told from a narrator and not the focus character of the story. If it's a narrator, then having one narrator read all of the books would fit the best. And keep the voices more consistent, because they change from book to book (due to different narrators and styles) and it can throw me out of the story.

I loved this book from the first pages, it picked up where the last book left off. This one the kids find a dummy thats alive, which really creeped me out!! It made it even creepier because you never actually see the dummy move. He just disappears and reappears all of a sudden. The pacing was really good I loved the twists and turns and the mystery about the mummy. I can not wait for book four!!!

Die ersten beiden Bände der Magischen Sechs konnten mich hellauf begeistern, daher habe ich dem Erscheinen von Band 3 ganz ungeduldig entgegen gefiebert. Diesen Monat hatte das Warten dann endlich ein Ende und ich konnte mich zusammen mit den Magischen Sechs in ein neues aufregendes Abenteuer stürzen! Ich war schon so gespannt, was mich in „Wendel Wispers unheimliche Puppe“ wohl erwarten wird.

Theo Stein-Meyer ist liebend gerne ein Teil der Magischen Sechs. Mit seinem magischen Geigenbogen, seiner außergewöhnlichen Fähigkeit, Dinge schweben zu lassen und seiner ruhigen Art ist er eine großartige Bereicherung für das Team. Allerdings fühlt sich Theo zunehmend hin und her gerissen. Seine Freunde und ihre gemeinsamen Zauberkunststücke sind ihm enorm wichtig, aber seine Familie und die Musik bedeuten ihm auch sehr viel und dürfen nicht vernachlässigt werden. Nur Emily, die seit Kurzem in Mineral Wells ist, scheint Theos inneren Konflikt zu spüren. Theo weiß nicht warum, aber er fühlt sich vom ersten Moment an zu dem fremden Mädchen hingezogen.
Emily ist jedoch nicht die Einzige, die neu in der Stadt ist - auch ein berühmter Bauchredner mit seiner gruseligen Puppe erscheint eines Tages plötzlich auf der Bildfläche. Die Magischen Sechs ahnen nichts Gutes. Warum tauchen auf einmal überall in Mineral Wells diese unheimlichen Darling-Daniels-Puppen auf? Diesem zwielichtigen Bauchredner ist definitiv nicht zu trauen – irgendetwas Übles führt er im Schilde, da sind sich die Freunde vollkommen sicher.Als dann auch noch Mr. Vernon auf einmal verreisen muss und sich die Magischen Sechs einem weiteren böswilligen Mitglied des Smaragd-Rings gegenüberstellen müssen, wird ihre Freundschaft auf eine harte Probe gestellt. Vor allem Theo muss sich nun entscheiden, was ihm wichtiger ist: Seine Freunde oder seine Familie? Die Magie oder die Musik?

In meinen Augen ist Neil Patrick Harris auch mit dem dritten Band seiner magischen Kinderbuchreihe eine wundervolle Fortsetzung gelungen. Ich habe prima in das Buch hineingefunden und es quasi in einem Rutsch durchgelesen. Langeweile kam für mich an keiner Stelle auf. Einer rasanten und spannenden Szene folgt der nächsten. Es gibt lauter Überraschungen und unerwartete Wendungen und jede Menge Täuschungen, Enthüllungen, Intrigen und Geheimnisse. Ich kann euch versichern: Mitfiebern und miträtseln ist hier definitiv Programm!
Ehe ihr euch aber auf den dritten Band stürzt und mit dem Mitfiebern und Knobeln loslegt, rate ich euch sehr, zuerst die beiden Vorgängerbände zu lesen, falls ihr dies noch nicht getan haben solltet. Meiner Ansicht nach ist es bei den Magischen Sechs besser und auch sinnvoller, wenn man die chronologische Reihenfolge der Bände einhält, da sie aufeinander aufbauen.

Was mir wieder ganz besonders gut gefallen hat, ist der außergewöhnliche Schreibstil. Wie schon in den beiden vorherigen Bänden, so bringt sich der Autor auch hier immer wieder selbst mit ein und spricht uns Leser direkt an. Ich liebe so eine originelle Erzählweise und finde, dass sie bei dieser Reihe ausgezeichnet gelungen ist. Wie in den Vorgängern, so liest sich auch dieser Band so schön locker-leicht und humorvoll und unglaublich mitreißend. Da zudem die Kapitel angenehm kurz sind und die Story, wie oben bereits erwähnt, durchweg packend ist, kann man eigentlich gar nicht anders als das Buch zu verschlingen.

Nachdem im Reihenauftakt Carter unser Hauptprotagonist war und im zweiten Teil der Fokus auf Leila lag, liegt in diesem Band das Augenmerk auf Theo. Mir persönlich gefällt es richtig gut, dass in jedem Band ein anderes Mitglied der Magischen Sechs in die Rolle der Hauptfigur schlüpft, da wir so alle sechs Kinder besser kennenlernen können. Ich bin schon total gespannt, wer wohl im vierten Band an der Reihe sein wird mit dem Erzählen.

Theo habe ich bereits in den ersten beiden Bänden unheimlich liebgewonnen und in diesem Band ist er mir nur noch mehr ans Herz gewachsen. Er ist recht ruhig und sehr gutmütig und super symapthisch und liebenswert. Ihn muss man einfach gernhaben. Allerdings zählt er nicht zu meinen Lieblingscharakteren. Meine persönlichen Stars sind die aufgeweckte Leila und die ulkigen Zwillinge Izzy und Ollie. Vor allem Izzy und Ollie finde ich einsame Spitze! Die zwei sind so witzig und zaubern mir mit ihrer entzückenden Art immer wieder ein breites Grinsen auf die Lippen.
Die temperamentvolle Ridley, die stets einen schlagfertigen Spruch auf Lager hat und den herzlichen Carter mag ich aber natürlich auch mega gerne. Die Magischen Sechs sind schon echt eine verdammt tolle Truppe, die man als Leser nur zu gerne auf ihren Abenteuern begleitet und die einem wunderbar vor Augen führen, wie wichtig es ist, gute Freunde an seiner Seite zu haben, auf die man sich stets verlassen kann.

Auch mit den weiteren Figuren konnte mich Neil Patrick Harris wieder komplett überzeugen. Egal ob gut oder böse – allesamt wurden sie hervorragend vom Autor ausgearbeitet und tragen mit ihren schrägen Eigenschaften dazu bei, dass man herrliche Lesestunden mit dem Buch verbringt.

Noch famoser wird das Lesevergnügen durch die vielen genialen Zaubertricks-Anleitungen. Diese Idee konnte mich bereits in den beiden Vorgängern hellauf begeistern. Auch in Band 3 erklärt uns der Autor auf eine leichte und sehr verständliche Weise wie man sein Publikum mit coolen Zauberkunststücken beeindrucken kann. Für angehende Magier ist die Magischen Sechs-Reihe daher ein ganz großes Muss! Nur bitte niemals vergessen: Immer schön üben, üben und nochmals üben – nur dann wird aus euch mal ein guter Zauberer werden. ;)
Wer hier ebenfalls sehr viel Spaß haben wird, sind Rätselfreunde. Am Ende des Buches erwarten einen codierte Botschaften, die es zu entschlüsseln gilt. Brillant, oder? Also ich bin erneut ganz begeistert von diesen tollen Extras und ich gehe sehr davon aus, dass sie bei der Zielgruppe, sprich Mädchen und Jungen ab 10 Jahren, wahnsinnig gut ankommen werden.

Was dann natürlich auf gar keinen Fall unerwähnt bleiben darf, sind die vielen schwarz-weiß Illustrationen von Lissy Marlin und Kyle Hilton. Mir haben die Bilder wieder richtig gut gefallen. Vor allem den Zeichenstil von Lissy Marlin mag ich sehr gerne. Sie hat die eigentliche Geschichte illustriert, während von Kyle Hilton die Zeichnungen für die Zaubertricks-Anleitungen stammen. Die Illustrationen von Lissy Marlin sind einfach genau mein Ding; ich finde so einen comicartigen Stil total cool. Die Bilder schaffen erneut eine magische und wunderbar abenteuerliche Atmosphäre und passen einfach nur perfekt zu dieser bezaubernden Reihe. Das Cover finde ich übrigens auch wieder große Klasse. Es schimmert so schön, wenn man es ins Licht hält und ist in meinen Augen ein richtiger Hingucker.

Fazit: Spannend, lustig, warmherzig, magisch schön – eine weitere tolle Fortsetzung, die uns Leser von den ersten Seiten an verzaubert! Neil Patrick Harris ist auch mit dem dritten Abenteuer der Magischen Sechs ein großartiges Kinderbuch gelungen, welches mir ein fabelhaftes Leseerlebnis beschert hat. Der dritte Band erzählt eine zauberhafte Geschichte über Freundschaft, Mut, Zusammenhalt, Ehrlichkeit, Familie, Entscheidungen, Geheimnisse, Magie und Fantasie. Das Buch macht einfach mega gute Laune und riesengroße Lust auf mehr. Da dieser Teil recht offen (und auch ein wenig traurig) endet, kann ich es nun wirklich kaum noch abwarten mich auf den vierten Band stürzen. Egal ob Jung oder Alt – ich kann euch „Die Magischen Sechs“ echt nur ans Herz legen. „Wendel Wispers unheimliche Puppe“ erhält von mir volle 5 von 5 magischen Sternen!

This book was kinda weird because it easily could have been the best of the series so far. Plotwise, it’s definitely the strongest. The slow crumbling of the main crew was executed perfectly. The set up of Wendel Whispers was great because it drew me, along with the characters, into the conclusion that he was the one from the Emerald Ring. The reveal of the real ventriloquist from the club was suitably wild. Theo’s internal conflict between his friends and his family, Mr. Vernon finally getting called out for his tendency to be dangerously mysterious, and the confrontation with Kalagan all round the story out to be the most interesting one yet.

But I was emotionally unfulfilled, I guess?
For some reason, the lack of consequences for bad decisions is one of my pet peeves. Like, for example, Theo bailing on the talent show the day of. Idk I just thought the others should have been a little more irritated than they were and there was just no resolution to it. Similarly, I was expecting Theo to confront his family about how they had been treating him. Honestly, they were kind of awful to him and at the end there was nothing like “oh hey Theo sorry we’ve been tearing you apart for being yourself” and I sorta needed that for my sanity. Thirdly, I understand why Mick and Emily did what they did, but again, no consequences. The things they did were still bad even if they had good intentions.

It was a good addition to the series, just not my favorite.

I didn’t like this book anywhere near as much as the others, the story felt half hearted. The story wasn’t very exciting, nothing really happened until right near the end and it just faltered for me.

I loved the first two in this series so much and they have both been filled with excitement and enemy’s making moves, this one though was more of a blame someone under suspicion and then fight with each other.

It was all a bit tedious to me, the group falling out completely, blaming the ventriloquist for things he wasn’t doing just because other things had happened previously it was not very exciting really.

The end though was interesting building up to the next story which will be Ridley’s where they’ll actually come up against Kaligan. There was some fun action in that scene which was the only scenes that felt like the other books.

Anyway I may not have enjoyed this one that much but the series is still really fun, the characters are still really great and when stuff happens it’s very fun and interesting.

Narrator review: Tre Hall is the main Narrator of this book, I cannot say I enjoyed listening to him, but he wasn’t awful. He was perfect for the character of Theo and did sound as you’d expect him to sound, however when it came to the other characters it just felt wrong the voice just didn’t work for them. Maybe it was just me, but I didn’t really overly enjoy him as the narrator for all the other characters really.

Nachdem ich mit meinen Kindern schon die ersten beiden Teile gelesen hatte, holten wir uns natürlich auch den dritten Teil der Reihe um die „Magischen Sechs“. Da musste mich mein Sohn gar nicht lange überreden, als er sich das zu Weihnachten wünschte – ich selbst war ja auch sehr neugierig, was sich Neil Patrick Harris diesmal ausgedacht hat.

In diesem Band ist die Hauptperson Theo Stein-Meyer, ein musikalisches Talent, der seiner Geige aber nicht nur schöne Melodien entlockt, sondern mit seinem Zauberbogen auch Dinge schweben lassen kann. Wirklich essentiell war diese Gabe für den Fall, mit dem die Jungzauberer diesmal konfrontiert sind, zwar nicht. Aber es unterscheidet Theo natürlich von seinen Freunden. Die allesamt vor eine Herausforderung gestellt werden, an der fast ihre Freundschaft zerbricht. Und natürlich ist auch dieses Mal wieder ein Mitglied des alten „Smaragd-Rings“ beteiligt.

Man könnte meinen, dass die ‚Formel‘ für die Geschichten langsam etwas fad wird. Aber Neil Patrick Harris variiert sein Thema sehr geschickt, baut neue Charaktere ein (und auch die recht große Familie von Theo lernen wir hier erstmals kennen) und sorgt auch für die ein oder andere Überraschung.

Mir und meinen Söhnen hat dieser Teil auf jeden Fall besser gefallen als Band 2, und wir sind schon sehr gespannt, wann es endlich den 4. Teil um Riley bei uns im Buchhandel geben wird.

I didn't enjoy this instalment as much as I did the first two. I know in children's books, the children are the stars and very often the adults either fade into the background or are shown to be lacking. However, it annoys me immensely that Mr Vernon fails them yet again and is completely absent through the whole drama. I mean, yes, children need to learn to be independent and brave and strong. Yet given that this is meant to be set in real life, it's quite unsettling how little parenting the parents actually do. What message does this give kids? That you can't rely on your parents?

It also offends my sensibilities that Kalagan would find the kids such a threat as to devise such elaborate means to break them up. It's just a bit too implausible.

Buuut, I'm an adult and a mother so....

A little more frightening than the others in the series but another hit for both me and the kiddo. The friends are being torn apart but the stress of Kalagan. Mr Vernon is away. Tough times.

How do each of the members of misfits and the emerald circle deal with stress? What supports do they have. How to handle friends with different interests. How to balance family and friends? How to have balance in life. Lots of important questions for the characters and opportunities for discussion between mom and boy.

More tricks and codes. But there seems to be a conflict between this book and book 1 as to why Theo wears a tux.

Another read in the series. Once again, it was a cute read that I thoroughly enjoyed which gave me a break from all the angst and drama that exists in adult books. I really liked the cute puns, the cute moments, and the super adorable artwork throughout the book. If you're looking for a book palate cleanser, this should definitely be a consideration.

Another Wonderful book full of magical adventure from the amazing Neil Patrick Harris.
An adventure full of twists and turns, and intrigue too.
Like a good magic act there was some mis-direction, as well as some interesting reveals. And as always we learn a lot more about one of our misfits, Theo, and as always it was a pleasure to delve back into this world. I cannot wait for the next one so I can adventure again.

I really enjoyed this volume but the ending frustrated me a little. There were some nice themes throughout but I felt a large part of it wasn't explored as much as it should have been and wasn't really resolved. But I still love the characters and Neil Patrick Harris has a great way of telling a story.

This was another fun magical story, though I did not enjoy it as much as the previous two. I think there was much less magic in this story, more focus on the drama. However, the reason I love this series is because of the way magic is used so often and pretty seemlessly. This book was full of mystery and drama and the cliffhanger was great! I loved focusing on Theo and seeing more of his family. I'm hoping for more magic in the next one!

This is a really good book showing more of Theo's backstory, and it really is an amazing book. Though there was one thing I never realized in the first book, Mr.Vernon was gay. It really warmed my heart to find another author who was a supporter.

NPH has this annoying habit of writing the first 3/4 of these books as mediocre and predictable, followed by a nail-biting finale with a twist so strong you desperately want to see what comes next. Three stars because the ending drew me back in. Maybe 3.25 because he includes instructions on magic tricks and I’m a lifelong magic enthusiast.
