Shane Ryan knows all about pain and suffering. A retired Marine gunnery sergeant, Shane has seen the worst humanity has to offer. He survived his ordeal, but his soul has been tainted by the darkness, leaving him with a permanent connection to the world of the supernatural.

Shane sees the spirits of the dead, he hears their whispered cries of pain. And it’s a gift he plans to put to good use, when he travels to Detroit to investigate the death of one woman who saw through all the darkness in his heart. A woman who became his lover, many years ago.

Shane is certain she was working a case, tracking down a deadly collector of the paranormal. And he’s determined to use his abilities to force the spirits haunting the urban sprawl to reveal her killer. But when he clashes with retired police detective Enoch Liddell, Shane realizes he’s not the only one hunting ghosts.

The two men soon find themselves locked in a supernatural game of cat and mouse. But it will take more than guts and guns to defeat this opponent, and his sinister ally…

Ron Ripley

Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.

Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.

Fantastic new series

City of ghosts is a great new book by Ron Ripley. I have read all his other series to date and was excited when this one came out. Shane Ryan is one of my favorite characters so seeing him back in action is great.

I am curious to see where this one is going and the author found an amazing way to start this series of and show us where this is headed. I for one am very excited to see the thrill ride that is awaiting us.

This author knows how to keep the readers on the toes and I read this book in one sitting. It is very difficult to put down. He always describes Shane with all his scars but somehow he has a lot of appeal. I think it is his character strength. and morals that pull you in, the fighting for what is right no matter what, and it really is no matter what.

This book is just plain incredible and knowing he has quite a few new books out was actually a reason why I signed up for kindle unlimited for 6 months, so I can catch up again with his books and some other authors.

You definitely should get in on this one. This may be the best series yet!

This was a ghost story that didn't feel like it had ghosts in it. The ghosts were portrayed just like the living except they had to stay within a certain distance of the object they haunted. Although they could not be seen or heard by everyone, the people that had the ability interacted with them as if they were still alive. Ghosts were also able to physically fight and kill the living as if they themselves were still alive.

Although an interesting plot, I thought the characters were rather one-dimensional. Also, the one question that I had since the beginning - why was A.K. (who was never revealed) collecting all the violent ghosts - was never answered. Maybe we will find out in the next book...

One part also bothered me. I could not make sense of it. When Shane was at Mack's and wanted to log onto her computer, he needed the password. The story reads that Shane looks on the back of a picture and sees a single word, MARSOCWWII, so Shane types in the word Raiders as the password.

How did Shane get the password from that?

Wow! The very first in a brand new series from prolifiand talented horror author Ron Ripley, CITY OF GHOSTS reintroduces a frequent and favorite character, former two-decade Marine and speaker with ghosts, Shane Ryan of Nashua, New Hampshire. Shane is, at times, a Ghost Hunter, and all too frequently, a sort of maximized vigilante. Think the Charles Bronson character in the Death Wish film series, multiplied a few thousandfold. Shane is an intriguing individual, in some ways more human in this novel than previously.

A pair of former Marines, a married couple, are unaccountably murdered in Detroit, with no trace evidence found, just after the wife (Shane's long-ago lover) emailed Shane for help tracking a series of deaths (including homicides) and stolen haunted artifacts.

I raced through this exciting novel in one thrilled sitting. Yes, gore, yes, violence; but so compelling. I'm on tenterhooks for the next in Series.

When I found out that Ron Ripley had a new series coming out, my heart went pit-a-pat. When I found out that the main character was Shane Ryan, my hear nearly burst from my chest. My reactions were spot on if this first book of the series is any indication of how the rest of them will be. Shane travels to Detroit to hunt down a pair of men (one dead and one alive) who are in the process of acquiring haunted items, and the ghosts couples with them, for a mysterious person who wants them for a mysterious reason. You know that if Shane Ryan is involved, there will be blood. Oh yes, there will be blood.
I cannot say enough about how good this book is. It is among Ron Ripley's best so far and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

Shane is back!

This story reminds me of why I am a fan of Ron Ripley. Shane, flawed as he is, is not a whiney hero. He knows his flaws, he does not let them get in his way when he needs to take care of business. He does not spend countless days swallowing in self pity. Instead, his focused sense of purpose smoothly moves the story along towards the final confrontation.

The supporting characters, both the living and the dead keep the story interesting. It is refreshing to read a story where the hero is just as deadly as the villain and in a switch from most of today’s stories, is two or three steps ahead of the villain.

If you like stories that feature a flawed, but smart, fierce and deadly hero this is a good read.

Shane Ryan is back and is as good as ever!!!!

Shane leaves his Berkeley Street home to try and find the killer of an old flame in Detroit. He finds himself targeted by a collector of haunted items and his vicious ghostly sidekick.

As usual Shane is never far from trouble and Ron Ripley weaves an enthralling and gripping tale as only he can. The ending is absolutely superb and I wanted to immediately read the follow up.

The only gripe I have is that I'll have to wait for it😢.

Highly recommended.

More Shane Ryan!! I can't begin to tell you how much I love this character. He's all kinds of awesome. So finding out he's the main character in Death Hunter was beyond exciting.

Shane is embroiled in yet another paranormal mystery involving the dead. With people dying, haunted items being stolen, and a lot of new players to keep track of, City of Ghosts held me spellbound from page one. Action. Drama. Suspense. It has it all.

I believe I just found the next series I'm going to binge-read. And I can't wait!

Never Disappointed by the Incredible Mr. Ripley!

Yes, he did it again! It amazes me how he can create all new stories with multi -faceted characters that grow on you instantly. It never hurts to have Shane Ryan as the main character too! What I would do to see these books developed into a movie with Jason Statham as Shane! Keep em' coming Mr. Ripley! Your stories never seen to grow old!!

Shane Ryan is back!

Ron Ripley knows how to create a page turning, suspense filled, ghost story that can't be put down once you start reading it! With City of Ghosts he brings back my favorite character Shane Ryan, who isn't afraid of facing ghosts head on, or solving the who done it when it comes to the murder of a dear friend. The ending leaves me anxious to read the next book in the series!

If you can stick with the jumbled beginning and odd style it's worth the read

Very different than most "ghost stories " I read. When I started the book it was hard to get into because it jumped all over, not really explaining anything . But it hooked me enough that I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. It wrapped up well enough that you don't have to continue in the series and but also well enough to make you want to.

A thoroughly enjoyable read!
I enjoyed the author's Berkley Street Series, Book One and this book, which continues the adventures of Shane Ryan, a man who can see and talk to ghosts. In this book, he deals with an unusual crime duo of a ghost and a living man, who has the same ability to see and talk with ghosts. He doesn't work alone, but has the assistance of the dead as well as the living.

Murder by Ghost

Shane is a former marine on a mission to dispatch killers, human and otherworldly. When his friend is murdered after discovering a conspiracy to steal haunted items by killing their owners, the mission becomes personal.

This is an enjoyable, creative read. Shane is tough but very human. The writing is good and the pace is fast. Fun take on the supernatural.

Can’t wait to read more in this new series from Ron Ripley. If Jack Reacher had a brother who hunted ghosts, his name would be Shane Ryan. Tougher than ever, he takes care of business and it looks like he’ll have plenty of it in books to come.

Makes me a believer

I do believe I'm falling in love with Shane Ryan. This is so well written that the characters jump off the page and become as real as creepys crawlys, kind and generous ghosts, and those that hunt them can be. Do yourself a favor and keep reading.

Shane Ryan is about to be pulled into a new adventure. When he discovers one of his old friends from the Marine Corps was murdered, he wants to know why. What he didn't figure on was someone trying to gather ghosts.
