Fantastic Diamond-in-the-Rough Romance!
This ended up surprising me. I was very bored for the first couple of chapters, and nothing in the summary drew my attention much, so I just assumed it would be a low quality, "filler" read. Boy, was I wrong!
First of all, the heroine is an inspiration. She's size 12, wears baggy clothes, and doesn't have a clue about her worth or capabilities when the story begins. By the time it ends, she's transformed, and not by losing a pound. She is comfortable in her own skin, and she notices how well-received her confidence is. So, I can't help but be cheered by that concept.
The tale begins by copying the genie tradition (i.e. only 3 wishes, can't make someone love you, can't wish for more wishes etc. etc.). After that, however, it was most unconventional. :)
I was afraid the characters would fall madly in love at first site, but that didn't happen either. I truly underestimated the author and the novel.
The hero, Jerod, spends time getting to know Viola by default when he grants her first wish. Viola is sent to a resort for a week-long company-paid vacation, and since this is where she finds his bottle, they had plenty to do. Viola's reactions let Jerod know what kind of person she is, and his treatment of her (going above and beyond) shows her the same. It's a believable relationship with average fears and insecurities..."And a whole lot of magic!"
I highly recommend this. If you have the patience, read the whole thing. If not, skip to the chapter where Viola arrives at the beach, because it's pretty cool from thereon out.
Intimate scenes are scorching hot. The magic makes them more enticing than anything else I've read to date. "All Bottled Up" is most definitely a double entendre as passions born of lust, love, loneliness, and abstinence chased both of them.
The ending is halfway obvious, but you can't actually guess it. That's also a treat.
Every time Viola stepped outside of her comfort zone, I felt a tiny bit more alive with her. I could easily imagine all the exotic places they visited, and it made me long to find this particular genie for myself to experience the same things.
Bottom Line: A bit of adventure, a LOT of romance and passionate tension, and likable characters with believable issues. It's not perfect, but it was definitely better than expected and worth every penny in my opinion. I hope this review is helpful to you!
