A best friend… A temporary job… A billionaire boss… What can possibly go wrong? It’ll take twelve weeks to help a friend, but only one day to ruin their friendship. Carter reluctantly agrees to fill in at his best friend Katy’s job, which is that of personal assistant to the grumpy, old, moneybags—Katy’s description not Carter’s. However, when the boss, turns out to be tall, dark and the very man of Carter’s dreams, he knows he’s in for a heap of trouble. Especially after being sent home twenty minutes into his first day. Now, he’s not only worried he’s lost Katy’s job, but her friendship too.
Sebastian Winters is an author of gay romance who has the tendency to create tantalizing, hot, young men that dabble in the dark side of sex, love and relationships. He'll keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next with his boys.

I thought this book started out as a very interesting and sexy story. Lance was certainly a grumpy sexy older man. Carter was the perfect sweet younger man. Their relationship started pretty quickly since it was only his second day of work.
The book began to go downhill right after they established themselves as lovers. It’s as if the author was writing several short books. I never really felt that Trevor’s actions made much sense. Other things seemed haphazard to me. Katie saying they were going to have a big discussion when she got back. After that she wasn’t even mentioned in the book.
The Temp is the start to the Billionaire Boys Club series and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and I loved the characters. The book is sexy, erotic and romantic. Where I personally struggled was that parts of the normal structures of the BDSM world were out of place. Not missing mind you, but out of sync - at least it seemed that way to this reader. However, in saying that it did not take anything away from my enjoyment of the book. After all what goes on behind closed doors is anyone’s game as long as it’s consensual - Right? Plus the storyline is about so much more than just “the lifestyle”.
The synopsis above gives you the premise of the book, so no need to repeat it. I’ll simply add that Carter and Lance’s story is hot, heartwarming, loving and just goes to show you that finding your one and only often finds you changing your outlook on a whole lot of things. (Big Smile Here). Can’t wait for book 2 in the series.
When Carter's best friend begs him to substitute for her at her job, she doesn't give him a lot of detail about the job, just the address and a note saying he'll be good at it since it's admin work. Little did he know her boss is a hot dominant man just itching for a sub like Carter.
OK, I'm a bit on the fence with this one. On one hand, it was entertaining and the two men had good chemistry. On the other hand, I felt like Carter had no clue what was going on and that Lance coerced him into everything by playing a sort of slippery mind game with him, even while knowing Carter had not a clue the real nature he was hiding. Beyond that, though, I enjoyed the story, I felt a bit disconnected from it and the leads. So three stars is fair for something that was well written, but I was unable to fully connect with.
3 1/2 Stars. This M/M erotica romance has some endearing qualities. Carter is the young, somewhat naive boy who is doing some temp work for the rich handsome dominate alpha, Lance. Things get tense between them right from the start, and Carter feels he may be fired before he even began, but Lance has other ideas for the kid. The two characters are likable and interesting. There is a little bit of suspense included, and plenty of steam. Their relationship formed quick and evolved even quicker. (Almost as if this were a novella, where things typically move at a faster rate than the standard novel... I mean the sexual contact started on the second day of the temps job.) The story itself was good, but there were some bits that took away some points for me. One being the whole Billionaire Boys Club aspect of it. There was hints about what that actually was, but other than Lance being a Dom and being in a club, there wasn't much said or involved with that. Only one scene really, and giving that is the theme of the series, it seemed like more attention would have been brought to it. Another was (and this is mostly an editing type of thing,) but during the situation that was the cause of the suspense, and without giving too much away, there was a stalker, and at one point it appeared as though Lance knew who the person was, but couldn't find them, then later it is revealed who it is and Lance is surprised. It got confusing. But hey, if you are reading mostly for the erotica bits or the actual romance, then maybe this wouldn't bother you, but I am one who likes to try to 'guess who dun it' so it did bug me. lol There were a few other little nit picky things that took some away from the book, but on a whole, I enjoyed the story and the actual love/romance between these two men. Due to the sexual content, this is suitable for mature readers.
The BDSM in this book was all backwards, and there was very little sane, and we had dub-con, at best. Lance was supposedly some kind of super experienced Dom who got so carried away by Carter's appeal that he put Carter in some kind of tension bondage, put him in a ball gag and a full face mask, and then proceeded to play mind games with him, including introducing the possibility of a voyeur - all without asking for consent a single time. Yet, the final scene of the book is some sort of super carefully orchestrated and organized scene, complete with contacts, defined and documented limits, and contacts that took weeks to put together despite them now living together.
Basically, Lance is a character that might be steamy in a book, but someone that you would move to another continent to avoid if you met him in real life. I honestly, just didn't really buy the chemistry between these two characters, and I didn't see any real evidence supporting their declarations of love. A part of this might be in the fact that the book was written in 3rd person, and switched back and forth between the two character's thoughts and feelings that I often had to stop and re-read a passage to figure out who was talking, and who was being talked to.
Overall, this was entertaining, but I wanted Lance to be a stronger, more realistic and experienced Dom. I wanted Lance to introduce Carter to his submissive side, and keep pushing his limits without completely breaking them in their first scene. I wanted a building of real trust, and not just an outpouring of lust. And just when this book is about to be able to deliver, we get an ellipsis of a weeks time where all of that pesky detail is glossed over.
A new author for me with this book.. A good start for the book with Carter next new job for the next 12 weeks. Written in 3rd person. Carter and Lance first meeting was bit of a clumsy one with Carter injuring his hand. The story fast progresses to domineering scenes. But there's a gray area around Carters for his friend job and doing things with his boss always in Carters mind. Scenes involve senses unavailable to Carter and the story changes. TRIGGER. This has rape mind games that made me almost give up on this book. My opinion of Lance varies in different scenes with a range of emotions to go with it. Carter is totally new to Submission and rules needed to be learnt. While there's definite heat between them, there's also a difference that has them fighting with fire. The story includes an element of danger with threats made.
Okay so third person isn't my favorite type of book to read otherwise I think this would have gotten a 5 star rating. Its definitely a book to get the feelings ramped up with what happens. A good ending and Id come to like Lance at the finish.
When Carters friend asks his for a favor to work temporarily at her job, he immediately wants says no...but he does..
Sebastian Winters is a new to me Author. I enjoyed 'The Temp', found it easy to read, although over the top at times.
Carter is convinced to substitute in his best friend's job, while she has to care for an ill parent. She convinces him to take the role, telling him that no one else will do it, he boss is too abrupt for most people to handle. She gives him no insight to the man that will be his boss, just a thick binder full of instructions. Immediately the man is nothing like he has been described, he's caring and friendly. The sexual tension between them is instant and steamy, and the situation between them develops fast.
I did find some of the timelines confusing, days appeared to disappear, but the plot was enjoyable enough to read over those sections. I'll be looking for another read from this series and author.
The author’s cinematic approach to storytelling, infused with explicit details pertaining to the budding relationship between a billionaire boss and his temp, provide the backdrop for Book 1 of this series.
Operative word--backdrop. While heavily versed in BDSM behind the closed doors of an exclusive club for the filthy rich, the author’s style and vernacular never border sleaziness. My reason is based upon the intricacies that render this story memorable long after the last page has been turned:
Laugh-out-loud slapstick Unpredictable twists and turns Tension Danger Character growth and transformation Emotional vulnerability
*I highly recommend this entertaining page-turner worth a reader’s investment of time.
Sebastian Winters has become one of my favorite new erotica authors. I read the prequel to this series and was excited to get an ARC copy The Temp to read. I really enjoyed this book. Even with some unconventional twists and ideas about a D/s dynamic relationship this was a fun read that went all over the map and came back again.. I do however really enjoy a M/M novel with the BDSM flavor which he was really successful with here. I am anxious to see the next book in the series.
Geesh, I don’t know where to start. I love reading book this book especially since this book seems so real, it was like I was intruding on their lives visually. The storyline is amazing and the characters are wonderful. I must the obstacles that both Lance and Carter face are a true testament of loyalty and new found experiences to be explored. I love how Carter speaks his mind and stands up to Lance when it comes to treating his staff like people. What’s even more expressive is that Lance character has grown through out this story for the better. Above all I love the foundation on which Carter and Lance’s relationship began and progressed.
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy.
This has a fantastic plot line. It just didn’t work for me. There were a lot of mixed tenses in the same paragraph that kept pulling me out of the story and made it a struggle for me to enjoy.
Mr. Winters does an excellent job telling Lance and Carter's story. It contains a lot of electronic chemistry between them from the very first minute they meet. This book contains more then Lance teaching Carter the art of submitting there is some drama mixed in there as well. But I think think one of my favorite side character is Carter's friend Katy even tho her part is small she stands out.
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Carter is filling in as a temp for his best friend Katy, he not only gets sent home within an hour on his first day but his second he gets caught peeking at his temporary boss Lance with his club friends. Lance is having trouble it would seem keeping his hands off his employee. The boy is only there for twelve weeks. Something in the boy calls to him in way like never before but is Carter ready for Lance's life's style? What will Katy think when she learns of all the things that her bestie did while being a temp for her? It seems that Carter isn't the only one that as a admirer only just how far is Lance's willing to go? Wow...dang from page one you get reeled into this story of hot and steamy kinkieness. Reading as Carter explores a side of himself that he only admits in his dreams but is he willing to submit to an overpowering Dom in everything. Just amazing detailed on the characters action's throughout the book, even if they are opposites in every way.
This book starts out pretty choppy. Almost returned it but decided to give it a longer try. The characters in the beginning felt like this was Sebastian first book. Where the words weren't flowing. It felt like it was. jerky movement and the talking between the characters wasn't easy to read. Once though I got into the story it started to smooth out somewhat. Enjoyed the story but will see how the next book feels once I start it.
I don’t even know where I want to start this review. This read was interesting. I think it’s kind of a low blow to some readers to start with a hardcore sex scene - no plot; just kind of dumped in there. There were several aspects to this book that I loved and several that I just hated and I still can’t decide which ones prevailed.
Carter is portrayed as this young 20 something naive gay man with little experience in the bedroom and a massive “I can’t think for myself” personality. He ends up helping out a friend which puts him into the life strands of Lance who is this 40 something billionaire philanthropist jerk that treats all of his staff like crap and has a dark side. I wasn’t a huge fan of Lance at the beginning and still even at the end think he’s kind of a bully.
Now don’t get me wrong - the scenes were hot. Several that you may need to read when you’re alone. Just prepare yourself for the other stuff.
