Break Even Part The Fall of Detective Chamberlain The first of a three-part novella series featuring Detective Barin Chamberlain and Russian Spy Melanie Bancroft. Detective Chamberlain is an experienced RCMP undercover detective. Nothing stands in the way of Detective Chamberlain and his mark. Until Melanie Bancroft becomes his mark. His most dangerous target to date. Detective Chamberlain’s work was crucial in breaking the blackmail case against Master Flynn, setting the CEO of Banroch Industries and his sultry sub Dr Calla Jones free. For Detective Chamberlain, it was the start of a long and winding investigation to bring down a Russian spy masquerading as a sub. Melanie Bancroft is a woman on the run. After living the high life as the ex wife of Flynn Banroch, the investigators outed her as a foreign agent. With her bridges burned in Canada, Melanie is no longer safe from those who would see her dead in Russia. Her only chance of survival will be in a cache of valuable confidential information Melanie has collected over years involving Russian agents. Will that be enough for the Canadian Government to ensure her safety? With her cover blown, Melanie must rely on the man she only knows as the Dom in Residence where she works as a waitress. They will cross the border from the United States into Canada under the cover of darkness. The secrets Detective Chamberlain and Melanie hold deep will unravel and betrayal will threaten to rip them apart. Will Detective Chamberlain be able to reconcile his feelings for Melaine, the woman who slowly stole his heart? Or will he be lucky to Break Even? Find out in the first offering of this three-part novella. A Dom’s of The Cage Novella

Hands down this is my favourite book of the series
Barin and Melodie/Melanie/??!! absolutely took my breath away with the first part of their story. This is a fantastic blend of BDSM and romantic suspense, that genuinely needs more than one book to fit all the story in. We get some scorching hot scenes, along with a tale of secrets, threats, bluffs and the half-truths of an excellent suspense.
The book is written third person, but from Barin's perspective, though from the teaser at the end we get Melodie/Melanie's (no I'm not going to reveal her real name here) view point. However I still felt as though we got to know her quite well, from her reactions to Barin, her conversations and the excellent way the author conveyed their emotions.
This book held my attention from start to finish and I'm really looking forward to the next part of this twisty, exciting, steamy tale.
A novella in three parts, this first part sees us pick up with Detective Chamberlain as he chases 'Melanie' Bancroft and find the justice all at The Cage are looking for. Of course, things don't run smoothly and all we have learnt to hate about 'Melanie' is thrown into jeopardy as Nelson takes us on a sizzling roller-coaster of emotions as we find out there is so much more at play than we ever thought. Fans of Dom's Of The Cage series will know that 'Melanie' has been involved in some pretty devious events throughout the books but as Barin uses all he has been taught by The Cage family in his road of becoming the Dom he has always hidden inside, we are thrown for a loop as Melanie reveals a much bigger picture.
I loved how Nelson has created the relationship between Barin and 'Melanie' and how the heat between them scorches the pages and I am left at the end of this hoping that what has been exposed is true but, I do worry that Nelson is playing with us and as the next installments are revealed, our worlds will be again turned upside down. Is 'Melanie' who she truly shows Barin or is she once again cleverly playing her role of spy so well that we are all turned on our heads. I honestly hope these two continue to develop into what promises to be a scorching D/s relationship and that together they can fight the past to commit to a brighter future where hurts and mistakes are laid to rest but somehow, with two more pieces of the puzzle to be revealed, I've a feeling we may be thrown a few more curve balls yet and the HEA that both are searching for is going to be far harder than either imagined.
Another great addition to the Dom's of The Cage series....my only complaint - I have to wait to see what happens next!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reading copy of this book.
First my apologies to the author. This is a review that should have been written a while ago and was overlooked.
I had the wonderful privilege of receiving an ARC of this book as well as having purchased it on a pre-sell. I can say that I truly believe this is P Nelson's BEST BOOK EVER. It is concise, the plot is perfectly constructed, the characters stay true to themselves throughout, but most importantly, this book takes the reader on an adventurous journey through Canada and parts of the United States.
This is the first half of a two part series telling the story of Detective Chamberlain. Readers met him when he played a pivotal role in As If The Whole World Were Watching, the conclusion of the story of Flynn Banroch and Calla Jones. Without Detective Chamberlain's help, there would have been no HEA for Flynn and Calla. Fast forward to Detective Chamberlain who is now in HOT pursuit (note I said HOT and you'll understand when you read the book) of Melanie Banroch, the ex wife of Flynn and who he believes could be a double agent or at the very least, a spy for the Russian Government.
I don't believe in spoilers so I'm going to be careful about what I say about the book itself. This is more "action/adventure" than we've seen in The Doms of The Cage series up to this point. And this book also takes place out of the Vancouver environs. You'll find Detective Chamberlain in both Canada and the U.S. And you will love the club in New York that he frequents.
As in all P Nelson's books, the story is about the lifestyle that is BDSM. She doesn't play around with spoiled brats trying to fantasize about spanking someone. Her alphas are TRULY Dominants in the real sense of the word and she knows exactly how to write them. And the sex? OMG, HOT (remember, HOT pursuit???). If you are looking for a lot of action, both in and out of the club, this book will fill that need for you.
I believe this book deserves all five stars. Thank you P Nelson for an enjoyable read!
Barin’s job gets in the way of his heart This is my 8th book in the Doms of the Cage series and each book keeps getting better with the push and pull between characters. Barin leaves Canada to hunt for Melanie in NYC and gets a job as the Dom in Residence at The Velvet Cuffs where Melanie (aka now Melodie) is working. They end up performing for the week to help out the owner and the steam between the two of them at the end is combustible! Barin is losing his battle with his mind that tries to convince himself that Melodie is a Russian spy. Yet when Melodie is attacked, Barin offers to get her to Canada. What happens when they cross the border into Canada is a surprise and will leave you wanting part 2 soon!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review. This can be read as a stand alone but I would strongly suggest you read the whole series in order to really understand what is going on. This is the first of a three-part novella, so it ends on a cliffhanger. Melanie Bancroft is on the run, from Canadian authorities, from the Russian mob and just about anyone she has screwed over as a Russian spy. Detective Chamberlain is determined to bring her in. He goes undercover as the Dom in Residence in NYC to catch her. They find themselves doing educational scenes for the club and their chemistry is palpable. P Nelson really knows how to weave a tale. 4.5 stars.
💗 BDSM 💗 Russian forces 💗 Fugitive on the run 💗 Huge secretes and dangerous love 💗 Eggplant count 1
Well color me surprised I'm sad it took me so long to start this book now. The snarky brat of a sub meets soft squishy hard as Dom. Through in some crazy murder and double agents and you've got one heck of a plot this Dom of the cage series bumps up ever time I read one of them. Even out of order their amazing. True BDSM I'm always here for it.
I have to admit, I truly disliked Melanie in the other books but the author has shed a lot of light on why she has done things in the past. I adore Barin and he’s been written as such an amazing character. This story is full of anticipation, heat and a little sadness. These two characters had serious chemistry that bounced all around. I can’t wait to read the rest of this story!
I got to tell this is long awaited book. I’ve been dying to read. I love how Camden and Merlin know their brother so well. Their is nothing like family and friends and you you add love and crime in the mix you get Barin. Always willing to help a damsel that’s in way to deep. I must admit this story got me thinking on what lies ahead for him and Sasha.
This is the beginning of an offshoot of The Cage series. It begins with Barin Chamberlain searching for the Russian spy Sasha. He finds her and one thing leads to another, including a whole lot of sex. He can't turn her in to authorities and can't let her go either. All of this leads to a lot of trouble for both of them. Beware: cliffhanger!!
I did not expect to care for this story - Melanie’s story. But I was so wrong. P Nelson does a fine job explaining some of Melanie’s actions. Add Det Chamberlain to the mix and it quickly gets hot. Suspense too. A great read in this Cage Series.
This was a quick and satisfying read. While I have read other stories in the Dom's of The Cage Series it has been awhile so I had a little trouble getting back into the Series but I really enjoyed reading this story. Master Barin is working another undercover job but this one gets very personal while he pursues Melanie,(Russian, Spy, Psychopath) as he constantly reminds himself. Is the woman Barin slowly begins to know the real thing or is she playing just another "story"? I found the book very easy to read and I was kept glue to my seat as the "true" story unfolder.
I was given an ARC to read in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.
