The Childhood Of Famous Americans Series One of the most popular series ever published for young Americans, these classics have been praised alike by parents, teachers, and librarians. With these lively, inspiring, fictionalized biographies -- easily read by children of eight and up -- today's youngster is swept right into history.
"[The Republican President]... went to the office each day and met with his advisors. His style was to allow his staff the authority to make decisions within his or her area of responsibility. He was always friendly and respectful, and he always saw the best in everyone. He loved to tell stories and had a keen sense of humor. In many of his stories he would make fun of himself... He had dignity and had a great respedt for the office of the presidency... He never thought he was better than other people... President Reagan showed great compassion for victims of tragedy."
While this book like all in the series does have a definitely rosy view, it is interesting to see some of the the childhood activies, the family issues, and the ups and downs that helped make Ronald Reagan the man he was.
Ronald Reagan: Young Leader by Montrew Dunham is an exciting and informative biography about a famous U.S president. The book follows Ronald's journey through life; from when he was a young child to when he became the president. Ronald had to face the great Depression while struggling with other hardships like his father's alcoholism and his constant movement of state to state. My favorite part of the book was when Warner Brothers sent an acting contact to Ronald, where he would have a annual salary of $1 million a year! i particularly liked this part because it was a huge milestone in Reagan's life and it shaped the rest of the story. Ronald Reagan was very athletic as a teenager as he was the best lifeguard in his city and he was first line varsity quarterback for his school. He was also very kind and polite as he mowed his neighbor's lawn for no pay at all. I think Montrew Dunham wrote this story because the public should know about the famous president and how he became the man we know him as today. Ronald Reagan; Young Leader is a very humorous, descriptive and exciting book. I connected with this book because Ronald Reagan had a passion for sports, just like I do. I learned that you should never give up even though life can get hard, as Ronald Reagan became a very successful man even when life could be extremely hard for him. I would recommend this book to anybody because I believe everyone should know about one of the most famous U.S presidents of all time. So go to your local library and pick up this book now!
Ronald Reagan, Young Leader was an entertaining look into the life and times of Ronald Reagan, or Dutch, focusing primarily on his youth, high school, and acting career; then briefly covering his time as Governor of California on through to the White House. Other than the last couple chapters, which read too much like a typical biography filled with fact after fact, the book read more like a novel where you observe the main character growing up. This is a fantastic series that humanizes these larger than life important people of history.
A good contribution to the Childhood series, and all the more remarkable since Reagan is so often demonized by many writers and so-called educators. My son particularly enjoyed this as a bedtime story, but it is hard to imagine school librarians making much effort to add copies to their holdings!
