Kate McMurray writes smart romantic fiction. She likes creating stories that are brainy, funny, and of course sexy, with regular guy characters and urban sensibilities. She advocates for romance stories by and for everyone. When she’s not writing, she edits textbooks, watches baseball, plays violin, crafts things out of yarn, and wears a lot of cute dresses. She lives in Brooklyn, NY, with a bossy cat and too many books.
1 "cute book cover, well intentioned, completely unbelievable characters" stars !!!
2021 Runner Up for Worst Read Award
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and Sourcebooks Casablanca for an e-copy. I will be posting my honest review. This book is to be released May 2021.
DNF at 34 percent.
I so wanted to like this book. I love cats. I sort of like dogs. I enjoyed the idea of a cat cafe in Brooklyn.
The two main characters did not make any sense...I mean at all...If the characters do not make sense how can you believe in their romance. You simply can't. Aaaargh so frustrating ! For a rom com there were not any giggles and I was a third way through the book.
Not believable ! Nor funny ! I'm out !
The book cover is adorable and I really felt that the author was so well intentioned. I wish her the best.
But my valentine's gift to myself is to not finish this book and enjoy a really nice day with my sweetie tomorrow.
1 star (rather than zero stars) cuz I really do like that book cover and the premise !
Like Cats and Dogs by Kate McMurray Whitman Street Cat Cafe series #1. Contemporary romance. Opposites attract troupe. Lauren Harlow runs the Whitman Street Cat Cafe. A coffee shop where you can also play with cats that are up for adoption. Caleb Fitch is the new veterinarian next door to the Cat Cafe. When Lauren and Caleb first meet, sparks fly. Not in a good way. They argue and bicker and generally can’t stand each other. Since proximity forces them together often, they soon discover that those sparks can turn into lust quickly. Before they even realize, they are having an enemies with benefits thing going on. And they do say opposites attract. Can they make something work between the two of them? Do they even want to?
I’m not a fan of arguments in lieu of conversation. Fortunately there is more behind the scenes and an outside problem that they can team up on. Lots of banter, pets, and steam. Enjoyable.
"First time we meet, you were just this good-looking guy in my café who needed his morning coffee, and everyone who has met you so far says you're this great guy, but good looks are no measure of character, and you, sir, are an arrogant prick."
An enemies-to-lovers romance between the owner of a cate café and a recently divorced veterinarian.
2.5 stars -- ARC received from publisher for an honest review. Featured on my YouTube channel in a May 4th ARC reading vlog: https://youtu.be/yShogJjMCTE
REVIEW This was a fun read, but I struggled with the romance.
I loved the with-benefits aspect of Lauren and Caleb's relationship, and it reminded me of some situations I have been in personally (minus the whole enemies thing). We don't see it enough in traditional romances and I appreciated the way it was portrayed. However, I didn't like their actual romance. I think they fell for one another too quickly and I just didn't believe their emotional connection (their sexual connection was really hot, though). I did enjoy Lauren as a POV, but Caleb was a weak point. So, I am giving this book an average three-stars rating.
I was debating adding half a star because I did cry at one point--the conflict between Lauren and Caleb is one I have experienced in the past, so the scene got a little too-real for me. But the epilogue made me bring the rating back down. I don't want to spoil the book, but I hated this epilogue because it made no sense given everything the characters went through and were about. Additionally, there is one line in this book that rubbed me the wrong way. Because their relationship starts off as them fighting and insulting each other before having hate-sex, there is one time when Lauren asks if she should call him "fat and stupid" to get the ball rolling. I scrunched my face up and it soured my mood. Also, there is the trope of "a mega-corporation is threatening to take over." And it just didn't mesh with the plot. Maybe I should make this a 2.5 star rating...
On a more positive note. I loved the cat café aspect of this book and being around all the furry animals. There are two side characters that I adored: Diane and Evan. I really hope Evan gets his own book because I just want him to have a romance (M/M). And Diane was just a meddling old-lady who had me smiling from ear-to-ear.
I will give McMurray a second-chance in the future because I think she has potential. But this book just wasn't it sadly.
Between the adorable cover and the promise of a romance set at a cat café, there was no way I could resist picking up Like Cats and Dogs. Kate McMurray delivered on her premise of an enemies-to-lovers romance with adorable furry friends as sidekicks, but the overall result was a bit of a mixed bag.
Lauren and Caleb rub each other the wrong way except when…well, I’m sure you can guess. I’m not the biggest fan of enemies-to-lovers but it can work when done well. Only at the beginning the sexual tension that came from Lauren and Caleb’s bickering really fell flat. Caleb is recovering from a divorce and he’s cold and extremely wary of getting hurt again. Lauren is a bit off her stride from her ex getting married and she and Caleb get off on the wrong foot. They’re hot and cold with each other and it goes on for so long that it made the love story a bit hard to believe. There’s potential there, but I grew frustrated with both of them at various points in the story. Caleb and Lauren are flawed characters and there’s a core of truth to their flaws that kept me reading. I wanted a bit more from the romance to make the ending believable but overall it was OK.
My favorite parts of Like Cats and Dogs involved the non-human characters. As someone with a rescue cat of her own it was a guarantee that the Whitman Street Cat Café cats would steal my heart. They’re adorable with their own unique personalities and I wanted to see each and every one of them adopted to a loving home. The characters’ love of animals gave Like Cats and Dogs its heart and definitely boosted my rating of this book when the romance and the side story of the evil real estate developers left me wanting more. Overall, I had mixed feelings about Caleb and Lauren’s romance but the series setting ensures I will definitely be back for more Whitman Street Cat Café books.
FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’m not sure that these characters made a lot of sense. They enjoyed fighting with each other, but most of their arguments were a little silly and over the top. She was constantly berating him for being rude when I thought he was just being professional if a little abrupt. He was sort of obsessed with planning his life out yet because he had been hurt by his divorce, he didn’t want to plan on a relationship, which both made sense and yet wasn’t consistent with his life philosophy. I enjoyed the cat café and the animals, but the love story, not so much.
DNF @20% I usually love the enemies to lovers trope but this one felt so forced and I wasn't feeling any chemistry between the characters. They were pretty boring a flat and I couldn't see myself rooting for a relationship between them at all.
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Like Cats and Dogs honestly looked like a book I would enjoy. Mostly because it has animals in the title, on the cover, and in the book. I am pretty easy to entertain and if any book has an animal (or two) I'm down to dive into it. Zero hesitations coming from me.
Unfortunately, this one was just okay for me. I don't think I had high expectations walking into this book but for some reason I wasn't fully invested into the characters themselves. Or the actual romance. Yes, these two had cute moments here and there but the drama was just meh to me. Plus it didn't feel like an enemies to lovers kind of romance to me either. It was definitely a slow burning one since it took one character way too freaking long to do anything. Which, yes, was completely frustrating to me.
In the end, it was an okay book that had potential to be somewhat more.
I’m definitely a sucker for romances with animal sidekicks, so couldn’t resist picking up this one set in a cat cafe. Our heroine Lauren is the cat cafe’s manager, and when a hunky new vet Caleb joins the practice next door, sparks fly straight away between the two.
Enemies to Lovers is always an interesting trope, and Friends With Benefits Who Catch Feelings can work too, but this one tried to mash them up in a sort of Enemies With Benefits, One of Whom Catches Feelings But The Other One Is An Idiot kind of way, and I have to say it didn’t work all that well for me. I get that you can be physically attracted to someone you don’t like. You might even act on it a time or two. But catching feelings for someone who remains dismissive of you and your life choices does not sound like a recipe for a good relationship.
To Caleb’s credit, he’s well aware that he is not good relationship material. He’s only months out from a messy divorce which derailed his life plan completely. And he’s open about his baggage with Lauren upfront; which doesn’t stop her from accusing him of hiding behind it.
I struggled to like both of them at times. Caleb was uptight and snobby about Lauren’s life choices, openly thinking of her as a ‘flake’ despite the fact that she has a decent job and is making a success out of the business she’s running. And Lauren, despite claiming to accept Caleb wasn’t in the right headspace for a serious relationship, was continuously pressuring him to actually commit to one. I never got the feeling that there was any real trust between them.
There aren’t really enough fun and light-hearted moments for this to qualify as a rom-com; it’s too introspective as both Lauren and Caleb overthink their personal issues and deal with each other’s baggage. And I’m not sure I bought it as a romance because Caleb never really did develop any true respect for Lauren and that’s a deal-breaker for me. I don’t think this is badly written, but as a romance it missed the mark by a lot. Two stars.
Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this title via NetGalley.
I love the cover of this book. It’s really cute and what drew me to read it in the first place. I loved that the animals played a big part in this book and I really loved the fact that Caleb is a veterinarian and that Lauren owns a Cat Café. I liked the authors writing style and that all the characters, secondary and main, were likable. I didn’t hate anything about this book but what I didn’t like is that I couldn’t connect with the main characters or feel any chemistry between them. I just couldn’t see them together. Lauren and Caleb’s arguments didn’t make any sense to me. They were constantly arguing over ridiculous things. And my biggest problem with this book is that it couldn’t keep my attention. I kept losing interest in it.
This wasn’t a bad book, and I think that other people will enjoy it, it just wasn’t for me.

A slow-burning, hate-to-love romance. Cats and Dogs is adorable. I was most intrigued by the plot between a sexy vet and the manager of a cute cat cafe. As a am a said cat person. I loved it. The two central characters are very frustrating, especially our handsome vet. He took a long time to commit. There was nothing funny about it. I really enjoyed the premise. The cover captivated me. I love the friends with benefits aspect. Their love for one another was too quick to develop. There was a lot of sexual activity involved, and it was very hot and steamy.
Thank you Sourcebooks and Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was an honest review.
Probably one of the best cartoonishly cover thati’ve seen and actually liked, but the story left me so disappointed. I love a good enemies to lovers but somehow I couldn’t get to like any of the characters and their interactions just didn’t appeal to me at all.
Thanks to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley
I didn't have high expectations going into this enemies to lovers/opposites attract, dual perspective romance set in a cute Brooklyn neighborhood cat café. I'm not the biggest cat person either but this book is actually quite charming, with a great cast of secondary characters and some very satisfying open door scenes. Recommended for fans of hipster NYC romances. This reminded me a lot of the Olivia Blacke Brooklyn cozy mystery series.
”No. Why are you mad at me? What did I do this time?”
Hm, let me try to answer that question. While trying my best not to shout in all caps, because I swear man, Caleb was the one who dragged this out and had me wanting to scream to the rooftops for the last quarter or so of this book.
And oh man, Lauren was the saving grace of this book. She was my favorite main character, and I much would have rather preferred to read this whole book from her POV then put up with whiny dull Caleb. Lauren though, ugh, she was just so relatable and funny. I liked her character a lot. As for Caleb…I liked him in the beginning, then he turned into a sack of flour towards the end of the book.
Normally, I’m not the type to grab a rom-com that has a cheap cartoony cover with a premise that seems tacky and repetitive, and yet here I am. My interest in this book all started when I was in the romance section at the bookstore trying to find some romance novel that I haven’t read. It had to be something that was emotional and had some depth to it, not just some cheesy typical fluffy love story.
And well, lo and behold, this plastic shiny looking book appeared, the cover was colorful and vibrant, and it looked promising. So I just grabbed it. And anyway, I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, so I wasn’t being picky…too much. Okay, at least not that picky. Anyway, if it’s not a popular romance or something that’s well known, chances are, it’s usually gonna be a toss up between decent or terrible. At least, in my experience. This was surprisingly on the decent side. The dialogue was easy to digest and the pages just hooked me in for a light read. Nothing choppy or bogged down here, just light and simple.
But it can’t be all perfect. Part of the reason for that is the very annoying miscommunication between our two main characters, and the dynamics of their relationship. Asides from that, I had no issues. I liked Lauren as a main character way more Caleb. She’s flawed and has a little temper, but she’s still hardworking and stays true to her priorities. She has her head on straight. Caleb on the other hand was…messy. Too messy. He has a lot of baggage because of his past experiences, and too much of that, he starts to use on Lauren. I thought that wasn’t fair to her. I really don’t blame Lauren for getting upset and angry at Caleb, really I don’t. I was just as annoyed with him as she was.
I completely lost it when Caleb had the nerve to ask Lauren what she was so angry at him for, and also for still choosing to act like an a-hole too. I only liked her even more when she called off seeing Caleb because she was fed up with his lies. And when she told him to go take his whininess somewhere else? I felt that. Because honestly, same.
Which leads me to my next point. The romance starts off as enemies to lovers, to the point where Lauren and Caleb argue so much. Then they spend a lot of time together and enjoy it, and fall for one another. I liked their emotional connection, but their intimacy was also pretty good too. It was full of passion and longing, and I’ll give a plus for that. But the main reason I that I have to take a star off would be Caleb.
He just got on my nerves for the rest of the book. Lauren clearly likes him, she tells him multiple times that she wants to start something with him, and he never gives a chance because he’s too wrapped up in his own pity party. So yeah, you can tell I liked Lauren as a main character more than Caleb. So three stars for the cats, intimacy, and Lauren. If there wasn’t Lauren or the cats, this novel would have gotten two stars.
A romance that takes place in a cat cafe?! Count me in!
That was my thought when I read the synopsis for this book and I was so excited to read it, however I was pretty disappointed as this whole romance fell a little flat for me.
I enjoyed the first 35-ish percent of the book, after that it became really repetitive and boring and I honestly had zero motivation to finish it.
I did however power through it.
This story was an enemies to lovers trope that was told from Dual POV.
When it comes to the Enemies to Lovers trope, good banter is very important. However there wasn’t much banter, it was like straight up fighting and it got so irritating.
Every single conversation Lauren and Caleb had was exactly the same and every conversation she had with one of her 3 friends was always the same as well. I felt like I was on a hamster wheel going around and around and waiting for it to end.
We are introduced to quite a few side characters in the first few chapters but the author did not fully elaborate on who some of them were right away and we didn’t even get a physical description of some of them so I was mildly confused every time a new character was introduced.
I had a really hard time connecting with both of the main characters, some of the decisions they made were really irritating. I also felt they didn’t really have much chemistry or a connection outside of being sexually attracted to each other.
The word foxy was used to describe the hero SIX times. That’s 6 times too many. I never knew how much I hated that word until now. Every time someone said “Caleb is so foxy” I just wanted to crawl into a hole and hide from second hand embarrassment.
The grand gesture and all the conversations that followed where they made up were really awkward and unconvincing.
Here’s what I did actually like, it’s a short list:
🐱Cats
🏙 The story takes place in Brooklyn and I loved all the descriptions of New York.
I was received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca in exchange for an honest review.
It's not often that a book makes it to my DNF list, as I typically like to tough it out and see things through to the end, but this book just became a chore to read. I really liked the concept of the book - the whole enemies to lovers trope and the "like cats and dogs" rom-com vibe, but within the first few chapters I was already questioning it. The interactions between the charcters were cringey and the plot played out like one of those cheesey and predictable Hallmark movies. The main characters seemed very boring and immature to me, especially when they argued over the sillest things. Every chapter had basically the same concept and even the conversations with the side characters were repetitive. By the last few chapters that I tried to work through, I could easily just skim the pages and see that I wasn't missing any key details. Blah blah blah, same old boring stuff that happened in the last chapter. I really tried my hardest to enjoy this book and gave it a fair shot. The author had good intentions, but it just wasn't written well IMO. But hey, not every book is for every person, and at least the cover art is cute to look at.
On the surface this one appealed to me, there’s a quirky little cat cafe in Brooklyn and I love books set in NY, enemies to lovers is my jam and, not gonna lie, that cover us just the right side of adorable for me. While I mostly enjoyed this one it did also kinda annoy me too though and it left me a little torn.
Most of the time in enemies to lovers there’s lots of witty, snarky banter and while Lauren and Caleb fought constantly, it veered more into mean spirited bickering for me. I never fully connected to Lauren either, she was fine but her behavior during arguments with Caleb bordered on immature. All of that aside, there were some cute moments here. Setting was great, both the city and the cat cafe and vet clinic and if you’re an animal lover you’ll adore all the cute cats and dogs here. Lauren’s friendships with her coworkers and best friend, Evan were also fun and more authentic than the relationship between her and Caleb so I appreciated that aspect. Overall a really quick and mostly enjoyable read, I was just hoping for a little more depth. I *think* this is the first in a new series so I would be willing to give it another shot if so.
A huge thanks to Sourcebooks Casablance and NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review. Oh man, this book cracked me up and made me believe that the cute barista I always butt heads with is into me *sigh* Like Cats and Dogs tells the story of cate cafe owner Lauren Harlow and the cute Vet Caleb Fitch. From the onset, they are just rubbing each other the wrong way but they definitely into each other right!? The book has the perfect angst, banter, cheesy scenes,, and totally adorbs dog. I absolutely loved this book because it's just what a romantic at heart like me needs in her life . I recommend this book to anyone that loves s romantic story
It’s been a long time since I rated a book less than 3. I just found this book boring. I found myself skimming and skipping just to finish. The idea of a cat cafe owner and a dog loving vet who hate each other had so much promise but it just fell so flat for me. I didn’t laugh, I felt no connection to the characters.
When reading fiction, one knows that the plot was contrived by the author. One of the things that adds depth and reality to the characters is setting it up so that one, or both, of the leads, creates a trope to achieve their own ends. It is more interesting if someone exaggerates the other's faults and exaggerates their ire because they find the other attractive and are worried about that. Rather than, say, they just both take offense for no good reason. It is also more interesting if a situation plays out in an unexpected way: if each are vexed because the other questions their expertise and they are both wrong, say.
Nothing by chapter seven has surprised me, so I'm stopping here.
A huge thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca, NetGalley and Edelweiss for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review!!
I wanna start off by sharing why this book felt so close to my heart as I read through 🥺
I was first intrigued by this book because it had pet lovers and a promising steamy, enemies to lovers romance and as I’m a cat mom myself, I really enjoyed all the scenes involving Lauren and her cats.
I’ve been a cat mom for almost 4 years now and all my cats are either adopted straight from the streets because their mom has abandoned or they’re children of my older cats. I’ve been hands on in taking care of them ever since so I had my fair share of experiences of seeing my outdoor cats come and go, heartbreaks from when my adult cats or kittens pass away, feeding them, cleaning up after them, giving them baths, grooming them, nursing kittens whose moms suck at being moms and I even had a few cats who refused to give birth unless I was beside them. With that said, every moment with cats and kittens in this book was VERY relatable that I was “awwww”-ing at every scene or tearing up 🥺 I constantly felt like I wanted to cuddle up with my cats while reading 🥺
Another bit I related to was when Lauren got scolded by a vet because of her overstepping. l and wanting to not unnecessarily spend on tests. I definitely felt the frustration there 🙈
Going back to the book, the angsty enemies to lovers, “casual dating turned serious relationship” romance between Lauren, cat cafe owner, and Caleb the new vet next door was such a delight to read! I loved the constant frustration and heartbreak I felt seeing their relationship progress. It’s like watching a car crash happen in slow motion for most of the book 🙈 It’s not secret just how opposite they were with Lauren being a dreamer and a dedicated cat person and Caleb the realist and strictly a dogs-only kind of person so it’s not surprise that their arguments and constant disagreements led to some very fiery, passionate sex 🙈 I thoroughly enjoyed reading the smut! It was steamier than I expected which was a welcome suprise 😌 The closet sex had to be my favorite 🤪
🚨 MINOR SPOILERS 🚨
Though my only issue would be how predictable it was knowing how casual relationships kept secret always end up and in how it had the typical storyline of wherein the girl ends the relationship because she wanted more and the guy didn’t then the guys realizes his mistake so he makes up for it with a grand romantic gesture but I was too invested with Lauren and Caleb’s chemistry that it didn’t bother me as much. Though towards the end, the conflict felt fleeting so the way they resolve things didn’t feel as satisfying but more of insta-lovey. The writing felt cheesy at times as well.
Also, the side plot involving the real estate and those developers trying to buy out the building and prove whatever laws the cat cafe may be violating annoyed me to no end and made me tear up at one point bc I felt the frustration of just wanting a safe place for the cats but all in all, it felt unnecessary.
🚨 END OF MINOR SPOILERS 🚨
Moreover, I loved the side characters so much especially Lauren’s friends, Diane and Caleb’s co-workers. Do the animals count as side characters? Because I very much loved them as well! Hank, Sunday, Sadie, Molly and Giant were sosososo adorable 😭
Overall, this book had my heart! It perfectly captured the heartwarming feeling of living with pets and dedicating a life in caring for them as well as the harsh reality of dating and relationships! A must read for pet lovers and romance enthusiasts alike if you like a light, fast-paced read!
I was a little hesitant about reading Like Cats and Dogs by Kate McMurray. With a 3.13 Goodreads rating, I was skeptical of its quality. Nevertheless, having read and enjoyed other (m/m) books by this author, I decided to give the book a shot.
And you know what? It’s actually pretty good. A common refrain in other reviews is that the two protagonists fight over incredibly inane topics that don’t seem to be fight-worthy, and for the first 20% of the book I agreed. But then I realized that their fights are incredibly realistic. Like, think about the real world: take two outgoing, opinionated, and somewhat aloof people, throw them together, and see what happens.
What this book ends up doing astonishingly well is to portray an enemies-to-lovers relationship where the characters really are enemies. Though sharing mutual attraction from the get-go, they genuinely dislike one another. Their relationship soon evolves into enemies-with-benefits (such a great turn of phrase and underused motif in the romance genre!) and have legitimate reasons for not wanting to enter a public relationship, particularly recently divorced Caleb.
The characters navigating their feelings and the strained secret/public state of their relationship is incredibly realistic as well. I know so many people who have dealt with being a “secret” boyfriend/girlfriend—it’s nice to see this trope in a romance.
I dunno. The writing is not perfect, and the characters are a bit obnoxious at the beginning, but there is no way that this book deserves such a low rating. Methinks some of y'all have no experience with complicated relationships. Worth a read.
When a grumpy new vet moves to Brooklyn and starts working at a clinic beside a cat café, things will never be the same for Lauren in this novel, Like Cats and Dogs. Caleb and Lauren almost immediately start fighting "like cats and dogs" and well, one thing leads to another and you all know where this one is going to lead, folks.
The adorable cover caught my eye on this one and the synopsis wasn't so bad either. I was thinking this was going to be an enemies-to-lovers themed book with some adorable animals, but alas it was more.. acquaintances who don't really get along as opposed to enemies.
Caleb's character was very set in his ways and always assuming he was right, which came off as kind of jerk-y, but honestly Lauren was more annoying to me. Every little thing Caleb did, he was immediately a jerk, he was immediately the one in the wrong, never her. Caleb was just, you know.. being a guy and Lauren would jump down his throat.
Anyway, it was an easy read (despite several spelling mistakes or grammatical errors), however it just didn't hit the mark. The characters weren't overly enjoyable and the premise just didn't do it for me. It also at times felt rushed for no reason.
Unfortunately, another rating of 2/5 stars from me for this book from NetGalley.
Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy of this book for my honest review.
The idea of a Cat cafe was intriguing to me, although being allergic to cats myself, is not somewhere I would go. And I have no problem with Enemies to Lovers romance. However, the constant bickering between the Lauren and Caleb was too much. While Lauren the manager of the Whitman Street Cat Cafe was upset about her ex quickly marrying after their breakup, that was nothing like the bitter divorce that Caleb the new veterinarian at the clinic next door had been through. I found her too judgmental on the poor guy and found myself skimming too many pages because I did not have patience for the bickering.
I read an ARC provided by NetGalley.com and this is my unbiased review.
Yes, much like other reviewers, the chemistry between Lauren and Caleb is just not...there. It's not believable. It takes enemies to lovers to a bad-tasting level, there's too much enemy for my taste. I just didn't fall in love with the characters or their relationship. Some parts were cute but what also turned me off was Evan being so stereotyped. Not every gay man is OMG girlfriend, overly dramatic. That's not how you tell us he's gay. You just have him say another man is hot. Boom, we know he likes other men. I'm not a gay man so I have no right to be offended but I can be ick-ed and I am ick-ed by Evan's portrayal. We'll see if Paige's book is better.
"Like Cats and Dogs" by Kate McMurray is a super cute read. Lauren runs a cat cafe and is located across from a vet clinic where Caleb is the newest vet. Caleb is more of a dog person, so he doesn't get the whole having cats at the place, where Lauren has the cats there to find them homes and be adopted. Caleb was hurt in his last relationship and doesn't want to date any time soon, and Lauren is upset about how her ex just moved on real quick like she didn't matter. Lauren and Caleb fight a lot about different things. Lauren is used to things going a certain way, and Caleb is all about plans and not straying too far from them. My favorite part was when someone dropped 5 kittens off, and they spent the night at the clinic taking care of them. This is my first book by Kate McMurray, and I will read others. She has a way of writing a story that keeps you wanting more.
dnf at 50% — i wanted to push through but i just can’t do it lol. don’t care about nor like any of the characters, the plot (what even is the plot?) is boring me to death, romance feels unrealistic. i liked the cats, though.
i hate abandoning books this far into them, because i feel like i’ve spent too much time on them at that point, but it’s just not happening — i don’t want to spend any more time on it.
This was a sweet enemies to lovers story between a Veterinarian and a Cat Cafe Owner. The banter between the main characters was great but the spicy scenes that came later were fantastic!
I enjoyed that this book provided both Lauren and Caleb's point of views of the evolution of their relationship.
The audiobook was good but it would have been better with a male narrator to read Caleb's chapters.
