A concise, yet counterintuitively formulated book about work-life balance trends. Work and life ain't two distinct entities. You must carry forward both of them dangling together. And equilibrium is a myth. It's all about how you perform the minor tweakings of the variables to create persistence and contentment. Worth reading in a loop.

It's a pretty decent short book with some decent information. Mostly full of the same conventional wisdom you would find in any generic "how to be happier" guide. Some of the tips include:

"You are responsible for your own happiness."

"See how your role connects to something larger than yourself, and how your work impacts others."

"Find a good work culture, and if you are not already in one either change it or leave."

"Create friendships at your workplace."

"Bring play to work."

"Say yes to opportunities to learn and grow."

There are many other books that would provide you with more value for a little more pages of reading.

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up. “Stress is harmful. But sometimes it’s not even the work itself that causes stress, it’s the expectation of constant availability and the feeling of being depleted by the demands. We aren’t robots, and we can’t be at our best when we are always on. We must take breaks.” Page 87

This book was received as an ARC from Sourcebooks - Simple Truths in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book was so helpful and essential to review due to the pressing times there are with my job and it is important to always take care of yourself while helping others and doing your job effectively. I appreciated the touchpoints Dr. Tracy Bower examined in the book and the importance of taking breaks, taking deep breaths and focusing on the positive will make you more concentrated at the tasks at hand rather than all of the work drama that distracts. It is really hard to coincide with co-workers sometimes due to the variety of personalities that exist but when you are confident in handling yourself and knowing the people that will help and benefit you makes work not only so much easier but more enjoyable.

We will consider adding this title to our Business Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
