Over the years Poet Edwin Olu Bestman has written a wide range of poetic styles, from the compressed poetic forms to a simple vernacular style towards a long journey of life touching on a broad range of subject matter including themes such as “Home”, Dark future” “Broken breakfast” and many other concepts and observations in real life.
Reading through his poems despite his wide range of poetic styles, Poet Edwin Olu Bestman uses highly elegant language which maintains a certain stately rhythm that could be considered reflective of his own sense of the dignity of ordinary words and thoughts.
His poetic language is not at all complex or even obscure, it is clear that he does not wish to simply leave his reader with literary puzzles for private contemplation. His desire is to have an impact on his readers.

In his book, ‘Raindrops,’ Author Edwin Olu Bestman has written in various poetic styles to suit every reader’s taste.
The themes he chose are practical ones and which have been of international interest.
The author uses poetry to speak out against every form of injustice in his country and the world.
He wrote about bribery, the plight of youths, trampled rights, corruption, prostitution, exploitation, rape of damsels, unfair justice systems, poverty, hardship, and abuse of power.
He has poured out his heart in every poem he wrote as he seeks a better world for his people.
I congratulate Author Edwin Olu Bestman on his first book of poetry and recommend it wholeheartedly to all poetry lovers.

RAINDROPS
by: Edwin Olu Bestman

A Review by Wendy Bryce

‘Raindrops’ is a collection of poems that is a must-read for anyone who has been betrayed in any way by anyone, especially by their own country. The book also delves into the author’s personal betrayals. But in his personal betrayals, Edwin has grown a heart of empathy mostly for the children of his country who have been betrayed by those who they should be able to trust most. Edwin all at once loves his motherland, and the fact that he still lives there is proof of that. But at the same time his grief for the poor leadership of the country and for the lack of concern for its most vulnerable citizens, the children, comes across in a most heartbreaking way.

In Liberia, rape appears to be a crime which is not considered a crime, yet rape is one of the most debilitating crimes that exist in our societies, and I say societies because it certainly isn’t relegated only to Liberia. But according to Edwin Bestman, it is most tragic in Liberia because it goes unpunished. The reason it goes unpunished is that many of the rapists are high-profile politicians and civil servants. In his second poem, ‘Dark Future’, he writes “where damsels get deflowered at the expense of rapists and savages who walk away with impunity.”

It talks about children being educated in second-rate facilities while corruption is rife at the top levels of government.

For anyone in the world who truly cares about the well-being of children, both boys and girls, who desire for them what is best for children all over the world, education and protection and love and honour, please read this book.

Edwin Olu Bestman is a talented Liberian poet and Author. He writes qualitative literature and has won several awards for writing. Notwithstanding, his works have been published in numerous journals, online platforms and magazines.
The exceptional quill of Edwin Olu Bestman is addressed to all lovers of peace, unity and knowledge, being himself an impetuous promoter of these values. The author is it belongs to the category of poets of great grandeur, unique by the high intensity of the experiences and the message, unique by the candor of the lyrical attitude, by the grace of his gesticulation and his coagulating radius of the deepest thoughts, putting his soul in the palm of the reader.
This volume of poetry, RAINDROPS is distinguished by wisdom, greatness, nobility, thus mirroring the beauty of the author's eternally thirsty spirit. Living in all seasons of life, the poet swings through the broad spectrum of life, managing to extract from the word light and wisdom. The aesthetic value of the poems of this volume is fabulous and sprinkled with an enchanting lyricism. His poems, wrapped in the velvet of the metaphor, denote higher levels of wisdom, sensitivity, depth, awareness and love for others people, in fascinating lyrical clippings and the ability to render to the word props surprising effects with a polished style, to extract the essence of the word and to reveal miracles by reconstituting an affective universe familiar with his readers.

Poetry has a unique way of expressing what is sometimes inexpressable and in this regard Raindrops did not disappoint. Each piece had its own unique theme but they all tied into a satisfying cohesive whole. Additionally the poetry iteself was of an excellent quality but that alone was not what made this book stand out to me. It stood out because it gave me an emotional glimplse into a culture and life that I have never experienced before in a very unique way. It had pain and heartache but it was also touched with pride, hope and love. It showed a larger scale picture of a country but also gave very personal glimpses and insights. I look forward to reading more from Edwin Olu Bestman.

After reading Raindrops by Poet Edwin, of a truth I was left with bums.

The poet was able to delve into wide range of subjects of thoughts using philosophical dictums.
He wrote about the inhumane treatment of his country of how he has been a victim and at same time enlighten and illuminated the minds of others towards this acts..

I call on all and sundry to purchase a copy of this Book and read it.
It is full of Wisdom and insights to build the mind and help reshapen our society into a better one.

Thanks Poet Edwin for this work of Art.

Raindrops is an excellent poetry book. I love the flow of the words and the impact of the message in each poem. They flow very well together. The tone and tenor move the words along with ease of reading down the pages. The uniqueness of some of the poems draws me into the lines for a greater understanding of the theme and essence of each. The descriptive excellence sends beautiful images. The poems are very inspiring. Awesome job!
