This firsthand account details the life of Jean Vanier and his L’Arche movement—a revolutionary experience of living in community that started in 1964. It came to be known as a diverse place of refuge that gave its inhabitants hope. Today, L’Arche is a worldwide movement with over 130 communities in 30 countries.
I am forever indebted to everyone who made it possible to make this book that was once out of print now back in print.
This is a concise and opinionated approach to the beginning and workings of l'Arche. It's like Jean Vanier & L'Arche: A Communion of Love but it gets to the point of what l'Arche is about rather than explain it's historical origins, but there's some of that as well.
If you are in l'Arche or a friend of l'Arche, there is much practical and spiritual advice in this book. It is a great introduction to l'Arche for anyone who doesn't know about it.
The body of the book was a little dry and academic, but provided some important historical information about the early days of L'Arche. The final chapter moved this book from 3 to 4 stars for me.
