"Anger is just sadness having a bad day. Jealousy is just sadness when she's being petty. Suicide is sadness making her vacation plans. Depression is just sadness in her sexiest black bra."
#Distractionaction is a self-reflective and eclectic poetry anthology that examines depression, sadness and the things we feel at night, while we spar with insomnia. Author and poet Robert Ormsby bares his soul for his readers, offering refreshingly honest and straightforward dark musings and sad poems about some of the most important times of our lives, in memorable selections, like “Sadness”, “Suicide’s Seduction”, “Thunder”, “Gemini Mirror” and “Nietzsche Knows Best”.
#Distractionaction is an emotionally moving poetry anthology intelligently balanced with a peppering of dark humor, lighthearted thoughts about childhood awkwardness and Ormsby’s passions, like 90s hip-hop, sexual appetites and childhood adventures in Connecticut.
As an Amazon reader recently described, “Robert Ormsby has a gift with his slightly dark and offbeat writing style. He has taken his emotions, given them a human form, and made them so real, you can feel them for yourself.”
I sat down to read Robert Ormsby’s #DistractionAction Volume 1 with the intention to check out a few passages and set it down to read more later. I ended up reading the book in one sitting, ignoring all plans and tasks for the morning.
I found it easy to slip into the collection of poems and stories, ranging from childhood friendships, to the author’s take on love, suicide, and loss, to fun anecdotes of the awkwardness of social interactions. Robert Ormsby has a gift with his slightly dark and offbeat writing style. He has taken his emotions, given them a human form, and made them so real, you can feel them for yourself. I also enjoyed getting to know Robert through his work and enjoyed his take on his favorite hip-hop artists.
Overall, I enjoyed #DistractionAction and appreciate how Robert Ormsby shared his perspective in a way that is authentic, honest, and entertaining. I would recommend this book to anyone.
DitractionAction Was this an autobiography? I tried to like this book of self examination as it seemed it was to me. Maybe Iv missed the point, was there a point? If so I couldn’t find it. Struggling through, I began to skim read, always a bad sign. It was difficult to make sense of, perhaps because I’m not a teenager. Was this age group the intended reader segment? Some experiences were relatable and a bit funny. The most interesting parts of the book were the Gemini descriptions. I can understand how other readers could relate to the experiences, feelings and musings of the author written in this unusual way but unfortunately it didn’t work for me.
This is one of my favourite books of all time! I love the stories Rob tells of his early childhood and his teenage years. You could really learn a lot about his man, and his love of passing the super salads
This was the most honest and unguarded reading I've ever been a part of! Robert does NOT leave much to the imagination and goes into great detail concerning his thoughts, his fears, his loves, and his depression.
There's a story in this book called "Suicide's Seduction" and that might just be my favorite. They're ALL really good but the Seduction story and another one called "Pass The Super Salad" were my absolute favorites.
It doesn't hurt that the author is handsome, either.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who's ever went through a tough time. I don't know if Robert's book will make you feel better, but I know it will definitely make you feel less alone.
