Teaching in the Post Covid Classroom: Mindsets and Strategies to Cultivate Connection, Manage Behavior and Reduce Overwhelm in Classroom, Distance and ... for Teachers and School Administrators)
A quick read in a conversational, upbeat tone, this book is based on research in positive psychology, curriculum design, student success factors, and 18 years “in the trenches” classroom experience.
I could see why someone would like this book. Maybe as a first year teacher, this would help. It brought back the positive mindset, that we all need during these times.
But for me: is was NOT my cup of tea!!!.The writter wrote this during this past summer, and I could tell the book was quickly-published. I do not like the way she writes (you do not write the same way you speak). I guess she was aiming to have a conversation with the reader, but it came as a poor way to communicate her message. I found my self pondering on "How did this even get published?" The 56 page introduction was doll, boring, and filled with things I already knew. The rest of the chapters follow the same pattern. The majority of the information, I have seen in other books.
As a some-what experience teacher, surviving the pandemic was a struggle. I though this book would help, but it was redundant, and it lacked a point.
This was a quick read that offered many tidbits of information. Some were reminders of past knowledge that may have been “forgotten” in the hustle and bustle of life. Others were new and worth considering and implementing. Overall a worthwhile professional development book.
Grace Stevens seems like the type of teacher and student advocate that every school should have in the building. However, much of the information written was more so about classical classroom management practices and strategies rather than implementing newer ideas in the era of a digitally blended classroom as I thought it would be about. That, coupled with the fact that the author’s writing isn’t necessarily my style is my cause for this review.
Great reminders for administrators who have been out of the classroom for years.....and for those who are not teaching during this pandemic. Lots of self care resources for teachers.
This was a good book, has some good strategies and advice for student/teacher connections. Author also has other books that relate to this classroom management styles.
