Almost two years after outwitting her blackmailer and her father's murderer and discovering her father's gold vein, Rose Wood returns to the Cariboo region in BC to reunite with her fiancé Dave and prepare for her wedding. However, missing persons and evil practices upend her happy return. Can she and Dave work together after so much time apart to catch a serial killer?
The action is non-stop in this book. After her previous book, "Wisps of Gold", Lindeman maintains momentum by continuing her story of Rose, a strong-willed and passionate woman eager for adventure. A slice of fictionalized Canadian folklore, the reader follows Rose's steps as she unravels the plot behind missing miners, women and mysterious bones. Interspersed with the action is the deepening relationship with her beau, Dave and some of the jealousy she experiences over a strange woman in his life.
Rose, avoiding danger and with the help of her finance, solves the mystery of the bones and missing people. Incorporating romance novel and detective fiction elements, as well as the background of actual events, leaves the reader wanting more.
When I finished Wisps of Gold, I wanted more. With Scathed Bones, not only do we get a worthy and somehow darker murder mystery than the first novel, but we also see the natural progression of Rose and Dave’s relationship. A very lovely and quick read.
