Holy Shitballs Batman - this story was AMAZING!!! This one gets one of my rare 6 star ratings โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

Talk about a dirty talker - hot damn. Patrick is one of the BEST dirty talkers I've ever read. He's filthy and mean and oh so delicious. Their "arrangement" keeps things interesting and keeps you guessing what kind of guy he really is - but regardless you'll find yourself falling for him because he's just that HOT!

The chemistry between him and Christina is off the charts and the way the author delves into the desires of both characters was flawless. I could not read this one fast enough and I am warning you now - ensure you have a fully charged toy or your other half handy when you finish - you're going to need it! This one is change of panties hot ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Priceless was hands down exceptional. This book was raw, heart wrenching and so hot, you will be panting in need of relief. Judge me all you want, but the questionable morality in this book made me absolutely giddyโ€ฆ

Christina is a college student on a downhill spiral of self-destruction. Not that her little social circle would notice or care. Tired of trying to obtain perfection, her life is in shambles between declining grades, drug debts and no savings. So why is it in the moment of crisis a boy sheโ€™s only met once is offering a solution, too illicit to speak out loud?

I could deal with my problems. I wouldnโ€™t beg for favors. If I was a failure, a fuckup, and a fraud, it was my own fault, and if I fussed with my appearance enough, maybe something good would happen.

Patrick Caruthers is an enigma. Apart from one meeting with Christina, heโ€™s the only one offering any form of help. Heโ€™s no hero, he has particular tastes and is providing a fix to her problems that not even she wants to acknowledge.

โ€œThere are certain things Iโ€™m looking for, and certain things Iโ€™m not.โ€ His voice was matter-of-fact. โ€œI donโ€™t want a girlfriend. I donโ€™t want one-night stands. I want sex on a regular basis, with one woman, the way I like it.โ€

Christina should despise Patrick, she should say no. BUT even fear isnโ€™t enough to resist what heโ€™s offering. She never imagined that his humiliating antics would leave her totally exposed, yet completely satisfied and safeโ€ฆ

โ€œThis is what it feels like to be my little slut.โ€

โ€œWho do you think you are?โ€ I gasped.

โ€œIโ€™m everything youโ€™re afraid to want,โ€ he whispered, โ€œand everything you need.โ€

Fortunately, I buddy read this with benevolent bastard because I needed the moral support. Between our gushing thoughts, the one message we received loud and clear was that Patrick was the good guy. And whether this boy had unusual kinks, he always managed to have Christinaโ€™s best interests at heart. I cannot wait to try Miranda Silverโ€™s other books, itโ€™s a no brainer!

โ€œIโ€™m going to take you in every way possible. Give it up to me. Youโ€™re mine.โ€

priceless

'PRICELESS' is a full length, erotic romance novel by 'New to me Author' Miranda Silver. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

Christina 'The pretty little Liar' and Patrick 'A wolf in wolf's clothing' two broken people who unleashed their deepest, darkest desires within the bedroom. This book took 'Smut' to a whole new level!!

WOWZA'S cold showers to be had throughout the reading of this one!! This was HOT!! Kinky..And nothing at all like I expected!! The synopsis really doesn't give much away!! What a crazy ride to see the New Year in with!!

This was so easy to get into!!

74238133-417715295576488-3112687228908732416-o

I loved our heroine Christina, someone we could all relate to, her crown maybe tarnished, the pill popping popular ex-cheerleader, who floundered last semester when it came to her grades, and partying to hard, losing herself in the process, the girl who gave too much, but delve deeper and there were so many layers to her. All she really wanted from her peers and her parents was to be accepted. She wasn't perfect, she made mistakes, she made money in an unorthodox way, a girl with many labels.

Now onto Patrick, the quiet senior, the frat guy who kept to himself, he'd just returned from abroad. Nothing prepared me for this guy, his filthy mouth had me squirming, his cold demeanor and dominating ways made for a combustible read!! His tastes in the bedroom were electric, humiliating but rewarding. He made demands which he expected to be met, a schedule that he adhered to.

Please note: This review may not be reproduced or quoted, in whole or in part, without explicit consent from the author.

And remember: I am not here to judge your drag, I mean your book. Books are art and art is subjective. These are just my personal thoughts. They are not meant to be taken as broader commentary on the general quality of the work. Believe me, I have not enjoyed many an excellent book, and my individual lack of enjoyment has not made any of those books less excellent or (more relevantly) less successful.

Further disclaimer: Readers, please stop accusing me of trying to take down โ€œmy competitionโ€ because I wrote a review you didnโ€™t like. This is complete nonsense. Firstly, writing isnโ€™t a competitive sport. Secondly, I only publish reviews of books in the subgenre where Iโ€™m best known (queer romcom) if I have good things to say. And finally: taking time out of my life to read an entire book and then write a GR review about it would be a profoundly inefficient and ineffective way to damage the careers of other authors. If you canโ€™t credit me with simply being a person who loves books and likes talking about them, at least credit me with enough common sense to be a better villain.

*******************************************

So, Iโ€™m back on the dark(ish) romances. I find them โ€ฆ I donโ€™t know โ€ฆ comforting in some kind of weird way. I recognise this doesnโ€™t make an ideal reader because it doesnโ€™t always come across that Iโ€™m approaching the books with the sincerity they deserve (and all books deserve to be approached with sincerity). I do, however, sincerely enjoy them and I hope that continues to come through in my reviews.

So Priceless is a take on the whole โ€œletโ€™s make an absurd kinky sex dealโ€ tropes and โ€ฆ I actually ended up really liking it? I mean, donโ€™t get me wrong, thereโ€™s a lot in here that didnโ€™t work for me (the actual sex for example, more on this to, ahem, come), and some things that didnโ€™t quite come together. But I was expecting one thingโ€”the usual thingโ€”from the trope and the character dynamics and the book ended up in delivering me something โ€ฆ like that, but not that? And that was kind of fascinating to me. Couple that with genuinely likeable characters (including the love interestโ€”I normally end up hating the love interest in a lot of m/f especially if itโ€™s supposedly-edgy erotic romance) and the result is surprising, tender and charming as fuck.

Fair warning, in order to talk about the ways the book surprising, tender and charming, Iโ€™m going to spoil the living shit out of it. If thatโ€™s a problem for you, then eject now with โ€œsurprising, tender and charmingโ€.

But first, the plot. Our heroine, Christina, is a college student caught in a downward spiral. She has spent her whole life trying to live up to the expectations of her parents and the example set by her apparently perfect older sister. Having finally made it to college, however, sheโ€™s given up, dropping out of the cheerleading squad, letting her grades slip, while she parties and spends time with friends, choices that have left her broke, lonely, and lost. Itโ€™s at this pointโ€”without the means to even pay the electricity bill in her student flatโ€”that Patrick Carruthers (Iโ€™ve no idea how that name codes to Americans, but itโ€™s prissy AF over here) makes her ye traditional erotic romance offer of no-strings-attached sexy for which heโ€™ll pay her. And thus we set the stage for kinky hijinks and deepening feelings.

I should probably at this point return to the elephant in the room. That being, you know. The bonking. Which was not for me. Like, itโ€™s fine. Pretty much what youโ€™d expect from a book in this particular subgenre when thereโ€™s a controlling man, a submissive women, and a large penis involved. Itโ€™s just about the mildest kind of humiliation kink you could possibly imagine (he says what a good slut she is, she gets embarrassed, theyโ€™re both into it) although thereโ€™s a bit body shaming, which is very much of those hard no kinks for me (even though, Iโ€™m not judging it as something some people can be into, itโ€™s clearly coming from an affectionate/attracted place on the part of the hero, and it causes the heroine absolutely zero self-doubt or self-esteem issues). I think where I kept getting lost was in the โ€ฆ entrails of the dirty talk. I just donโ€™t think anyone should be describing any part of their body as oozing in a sexual context. Like if something is oozing, you need to see a doctor. Or, yโ€™know, thereโ€™s this:

Youโ€™re dripping. Youโ€™re fucking soaked. Youโ€™re a river of girl cum.

Sorry, what? A river of what? Ejaculate has a gender identity now?

The thing is, I do recognise that this kind of thing is down to personal taste. And that itโ€™s hard to write dirty talk. For what itโ€™s worth, even if it didnโ€™t do much for me directly, I did end up appreciating how true to the characters it came to feel: itโ€™s clearly something theyโ€™re both heavily into and the way it evolves and develops over time, as their feelings towards each other change is kind of weirdly touching. And this is exactly how Priceless sneaks up on you. Like, one minute youโ€™re recoiling from a river of girl cum and then youโ€™re genuinely engaged in the emotional dynamic of two people who really enjoy spouting sexy nonsense at each other during sex. Because, donโ€™t get me wrong, spouting sexy nonsense during sex is actually fun and intimate and liberating. And if the book didnโ€™t, for me, manage to convey that with the actual dirty talk exchanged, it did make me believe in the feelings behind it.

Althoughโ€”because I canโ€™t leave anything aloneโ€”I do feel the need to point out that there are occasionally sections like this:

โ€œNo, you donโ€™t,โ€ he hissed. โ€œYou just wish you hated me. You canโ€™t fake anything here, Christina. You can only beg and plead while I do whatever I want with you. Itโ€™s so embarrassing, isnโ€™t it? How youโ€™re creaming and shaking and crying while youโ€™re fucked by someone you want to hate, until we come together like two intimate lovers?โ€

Which, you know. Okay. Whatever. You do you, mate. Except heโ€™s actually fucking herโ€”โ€œsteadily, mercilessly, savagelyโ€โ€”at the moment of delivering this Shakespearean monologue And ALSO diddling her clit. First of all, the multi-tasking. But also โ€ฆ I mean. Iโ€™m fairly fit and fairly verbose but this manโ€™s breath control is out of this world. I guess erotic romance is about exploring fantasies, but I guess I hadnโ€™t quite considered that one possible fantasy might be โ€œI want someone who can stimulate me clitorally and pound me into the mattress while simultaneously reciting War and Peace.โ€ But, frankly, that just reflects a lack of imagination on my part.

Personal taste in sex scenes asideโ€”and Iโ€™m aware Iโ€™m basically doing the erotic romance equivalent of claiming you read Playboy for the articlesโ€”there was still enough going in Priceless to keep me interested and invested. Some of it was pure โ€œwhat is going on with character [x], what happened in Italyโ€ type curiosity, but the more I read, the more book dismantled my assumptions and expectations, and the more interesting a process that became.

For a start, whatever snarky bullshit I have to say about the sex scenes, the fact remains that Christinaโ€”despite some initial reservations around the sex-for-money angleโ€”is explicitly and enthusiastically into what is happening, both in and out of the bedroom. Out of the bedroom she likes having the money and the convenience of regular sex on a pre-arranged schedule (I mean, maybe itโ€™s my cusp-of-Virgo speaking but who wouldnโ€™t, I love me some hard logistics). In the bedroom sheโ€™s essentially getting to live out all her fantasies with a man who proves himself trustworthy and is, incidentally, extraordinarily hot. Plus, itโ€™s very clear that this isnโ€™t one of those situations where the hero has to essentially deliver the heroineโ€™s sexuality to her. He helps her express her submissive/masochistic desires, yes, and gives her opportunity to explore them but itโ€™s pretty clear theyโ€™ve always been part of her. Itโ€™s actually kind of โ€ฆ um โ€ฆ heartwarming? Have I lost my mind? to see Christina grow in sexual confidence over the course of the book, to the point sheโ€™s comfortable enough to express her need for hurt and humiliation very openly and without shame. Or rather, with shame. But with the kind of eroticised she she actively wants.

Ultimately, thereโ€™s something โ€ฆ sweetly equitable about their dynamic, despite the fact theyโ€™re playing with power exchange. I think because theyโ€™re college students thereโ€™s, honestly, an odd sort of innocence to it, almost? Is innocence the right word? Obviously itโ€™s hot and dirty to them, but thereโ€™s also an air of mutual play and discovery that gives their bedroom antics a welcome lightness. And it was niceโ€”refreshingโ€”to see them engaging in the sort of kink that is, in fact, accessible to people on a budget. Which is to say, they have a bed and, at one point, some rope but mostly they just have each otherโ€™s bodies. I know the billionaire dom(me) complete with sex dungeon is a fantasy/trope for a reason (and one I have myself written) butโ€”in life and artโ€”the ever more intimate relationship between capitalism and BDSM bugs the shit out of me.

It also helps, or helps for me at least, that Patrick is very much not an arsehole. Like, yes heโ€™s in a mess at the start of the book and insists on one of those romance hero โ€œsex on my terms with no strings attachedโ€ type deals. But he manages to stay emotionally uninvolved for about two seconds flatโ€”giving Christina, like, all the aftercare and a fancy breakfast in bed. He tries to hold himself back and refuses to share details of his life etc. etc., but โ€ฆ he mostly fails to do this on every level. And early on Christina, who is obviously quite lonely and has nobody around to truly confide in, sort of decides if heโ€™s not going to share sheโ€™s just going to โ€ฆ say whatever. And he listens to all this, kindly and patiently, and says emotionally supportive things. Very often in the cold controlling dom / open-hearted sub dynamic the emotional labour tends to be hero directed โ€“ as in, itโ€™s the heroineโ€™s โ€œjobโ€ to make the guy open up and overcome his toxic masculinity (or whatever). In this case, Christinaโ€™s basically getting amazing sex, breakfast in bed, therapy on the side AND sheโ€™s getting paid for it. Which like โ€ฆ where do you sign up?

The other thing Iโ€™d add on the subject of Patrick Carruthers is โ€ฆ I kind of felt he had a dimensionality to him that I donโ€™t always find with romance heroes, especially not in this subgenre. I mean, almost axiomatically the cold controlling dom archetype is a figure of fantasy not empathy. Also, I know I say this every fucking m/f review but let me say it again so Iโ€™m not misunderstood: this isnโ€™t a โ€œomg, think of the menzโ€ type point. Itโ€™s totally okay for the hero in a romance to basically be an โ€œobjectโ€ for the heroine to acquireโ€”either as wish fulfilment fantasy or a reward for self-actualising or whatever else. The objectification of female characters in still pretty much the standard in a lot of genres; it would be beyond gross of me to sit here complaining about the one genre where women get to do it back, especially considering the privilege of straight men. I just find it more interesting as a reader of romance (irrespective of my gender identity) when both central characters are presented as people we can relate to or see ourselves in (as well as admire and desire). And with Patrick, his youth, the mistakes he has made in past, along with his lack of the expected economic privilege kind of reframe the whole โ€œIโ€™m going to pay you for sex my wayโ€ thing as an act, not of power, but of vulnerability. One of the most charming moments in the whole book for me was whenโ€”during the unravelling of this whole dynamicโ€”the heroineโ€™s sister confronts him with it directly and this is the exchange that follows:

โ€œPatrick?โ€ She sounded dazed. โ€œWhyโ€™d you pay my sister to sleep with you?โ€

He blinked at me. I folded my arms.

โ€œI donโ€™t know,โ€ he said finally. โ€œIt seemed like a good idea at the time.โ€

I mean, I just guffawed at this. But it also made me โ€œawwโ€ a bit. Because, yes, how do you explain something like that? It could so easily have been a cop-out that Patrick canโ€™t. But I found this moment of frank acknowledgement of his own uncertaintyโ€”that he acted like a fucking weirdo because sometimes youโ€™re at college and you just doโ€”extremely winning. I also liked the fact that, while itโ€™s not a major cause of angst, thereโ€™s recognition in the book that having dominant desires isnโ€™t always easy to come to terms with, especially if you also are, or want to be, a good person, and even more so when youโ€™re young. Part of Patrickโ€™s arc is allowing his relationship with Christina to demonstrate to him that itโ€™s possible to be who needs to be in the bedroom without that impinging upon who is the rest of the time. That loving someone and getting off on humiliating them or controlling them arenโ€™t mutually exclusive. That he can have both. And, once again, this all happens sort of *around* Christina. Itโ€™s not something she to bring about.

Anyway, this was all really good stuff from my perspective, andโ€”while I started off scepticalโ€”I really grew to appreciate everything Priceless was doing (or not doing) the longer I spent with it. I do think there was perhaps just a touch too much going on at times, which led to a few sections feeling rushed through or under-explored. I could have done with a couple more conversations between Christina and Patrick towards the end, as a lot happens very quickly, with everyone learning everything all at once. And thereโ€™s a whole subplot about Christinaโ€™s addiction to Adderall, which, honestly, felt unnecessary and is basically addressed by her deciding (with the help of her bizarrely supportive dealer) to quit after finals. I mean, obviously I didnโ€™t want the book to go full Requiem for a Dream, but coming off stimulants sucks *incredibly* and having it hand-waved breezily away off-page as if anyone can just get over their addictions by knuckling down and wanting to felt โ€ฆ kind of not okay?

Iโ€™m also in two minds, coming down mostly positive I think, about Patrickโ€™s relationship with an older woman he met in Italy while he was on his year abroad (or whatever the American college equivalent is). While this relationship was indisputably legal, it was still potentially grooming (she was ten years his senior) and certainly abusive (he lost contact with his friends and family while she was with him). I felt this was mostly handled in an understated wayโ€”not milked for dramaโ€”although the fact that subsequently Patrick is going around trying to pay other college students to have kinky sex with him in what he intends to be a totally controlled environment attests to the harm the relationship did to him. I wish thereโ€™d been touch a more acknowledgement from someone in the text, ideally Christina, regarding his lack of culpability for the negative consequences of a relationship in which he was very much the victim (his brothers, for example, still blame him for his absence) but I did value that (apart from Adderall addiction apparently) the book was willing to allow some aspects of its ending to remain ambiguous (various family dynamics for example). Not every HEA/HFN requires (or should require) every problem to be immediately resolved and wrapped up in a bow, especially when youโ€™re dealing with protagonists in their early twenties (even if the book revolves one of them forming a determination to pay the other for sex).

So, err, yes. Thatโ€™s that, I guess? I think you can tell if this is the sort of book youโ€™d be interested in from the back cover copy aloneโ€”and, well. For meโ€”some incompatibilities of taste notwithstandingโ€”it ended up massively over-delivering. I didnโ€™t quite get the sexy nonsense I was expecting (cf incompatibilities of taste) but I sincerely appreciated its thoughtful, occasionally tongue-in-cheek take on a very well-worn trope, its unexpectedly decent hero, and a romance arc that really made me care. I know reviews of erotic romance should be focused on the hots. But there was something deeply *likeable* to me about Priceless. And that should be celebrated too.

Obsession wasnโ€™t pretty. It was an ugly, all-consuming thing.

This probably isnโ€™t the kindest thing to say, but I am absolutely SHOCKED that I enjoyed this book so much. Iโ€™d read this author in the past, and while her books were page-turners, they were also sort of silly smut in my opinion. Which is fine, but those arenโ€™t more than 3 stars reads to me personally. So prior to starting this one I read reviews, and they were mixed. So then when I started this book, I assumed that I would end up feeling meh about it. Turns out, you should always take reviews with a grain of salt because I ended up truly enjoying Christina & Patrickโ€™s story. Donโ€™t get me wrong. Priceless still has a ton of smut, and itโ€™s 90% a lite dom/sub vibe with some other BDSM things mixed in, but what I TRULY loved about this book was everything else. Itโ€™s essentially a new adult romance where the two leads have so much going on in their lives, but when they come together for their sessions nothing else matters. They are each otherโ€™s escape from whatโ€™s really going on in life. I liked these characters because they were flawed. They made mistakes. They were liars at times. Itโ€™s just a good read.

I will say that it was a bit hard to get into at first. Mainly because the writing was a bit all over the place, but it evens out nicely after the first couple of chapters.

I think if you can handle some dom/sub, BDSM, humiliation in your dark romances, then you should definitely pick this one up. And if you are sort of ok, then you should try it as well because the story that comes with was worth it in my opinion, and I usually HATE anything with BDSM.

Rewriting this review because my old one was embarrassing and I was just about as stuttery as the fmc ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’•. Once in a while, I choose to not rate a book objectively so here I am, stating that I enjoyed this pretty fucking much, regardless of some pretty major complaints I have. This was such a quick read for me which is always refreshing, who doesn't love reading a book they can't put down.

Going into this, you've got to expect a couple of things. This is indeed a college romance, involving the funky and fresh friends-with-benefits situation that I personally adore, but with somehow mediocre sex and excellent romantic material.

I don't strongly disagree with this being tagged as erotica, though I'd say the BDSM aspect was barely there. The lack of variety in the sex scenes was quite the disappointment because...that's the primary reason one would read the book.

I vaguely remember the sex scenes being very repetitive (always same position), and the guy, with the giggle-worthy name of Patrick, having an embarrassing yet somehow endearing attempt at dirty talk. "You're such a good little slut" and phrases of the like will never fail to make me chuckle because what are you even doing. All I ask is to be able to take the dirty talk seriously but I really just fucking can't sometimes. Another fond memory I attained from the consumption of this book was the repetitive use of the word "juices" in its presumable context - not the hottest thing I've ever read, truly.

Patrick, dearest, talked about being into some ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก intense fucked up shit ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก but all he did was get off on her embarrassment. Which is quite the kink, don't get me wrong, but it was also quite the bore.

Yet...

I enjoyed pretty much every other aspect. The unexpected tenderness, the aftercare, the hurt-comfort... it was just too easy to put the ow drama, random drug plotline, and lacking smut behind me.

I was fucking giggling and not at the book this time, but because of how stinking cute some moments really were. It was just edible, such a treat.

1. She faints and he's all soft and careful and worried while taking care of her.

2. He plays her his favourite song when they go to sleep after having sex.

3: Nightmare trope, ofc.

I also appreciated that the fmc wasn't the most insufferable creature, as most are in books like these. She actually had decent substance, talked back, participated etc. Magnificent entertainment value, I'm telling you.

Baby Patrick also cared so much about her that he made her say nice things about herself during sex so that she would become more loving and appreciative of herself.

Ah, furthermore, I did like when he would call the girl "adorable" or "cute" randomly during sex. Just know my legs were swinging and my cheeks were red.

There was, unfortunately, phone sex, though. One of the cringiest sexual interactions ever invented tbh. Also, I'm tired of the sexualisation of cheer/school uniform. It's not cute, it's not hot, bye. But still, as mentioned, this was all bearable because of the other things this book brought to the mf table.

The author could have also better executed the moment where the fmc was given the opportunity to take charge. She just stuttered over trying to say "cock". Like. "CAWK" "CAHKK". I believe in you girl!! You can do this! But she didn't. And he took over soon after that.

In conclusion, small moments of this book had me in a chokehold, though I'd have preferred he had me (or the fmc) in one instead. Will I ever recommend this to someone? The answer is no, so don't use my rating or review against me because it wasn't me.

Sassy yet vulnerable heroine and a broody yet secretly caring hero? Sign me up fast!!
I really liked those in the first half, the way the hero brought the heroine out of her shell was wonderful to watch. I'm a sucker for stories with kink that's experienced in real life and outside of BDSM clubs environment, it's always a pleasure to watch the characters being creative with it. So yeah, that part was great, even if their chemistry was kind of lukewarm tbh.

The hero, Patrick, was respectful (even while being disrespectful, heh), patient and passionate, I loved that guy!!
Now the heroine, Christina... Oh boy.
She was vulnerable, yes, sassy with the hero and funny sometimes - yet also insecure to no end, as much an overachiever and a peoplepleaser as she was a crybaby, and that got old at some point.

I'm aware of how most of us have insecurities; how much pressure some people are under, especially after growing up with an emotionally abusive parent (because that fucking mother?! I can't call her monologues anything else as emotional abuse) and trying to please everyone around them just to feel loved.
But Christina's case went over the top and her constant whining about being not as perfect as her sister untill the very end did a number on my nerves.
Plus she let EVERYONE and their uncle walk all over herself - repeatedly!!

So at first, I was hardcore counting on her growing a backbone, because my wish to shake her was overwhelming. I waited and waited... And then the last 20% came and it all went up in flames.
The college drama was a bit embarrassing. Her piece of shit ex made the most pathetic villain; together with her passive aggressive ex-bestie, who behaved like a 12 y.o. (no offence to any 12 year olds!); and her mother who basically asked to be slapped silly.

The one thing in all that mess was the relationship with her sister that was resolved halfway decently. The rest? They way how accepting and forgiving the heroine was to those fuckups of villains? Not a word about relationship with her mother? I wanted to scream!!

No.
That's not a spine, my dear, that is not how you fucking stand up for yourself!

Plus giving us how awesome and perfect the heroine actually was (in the eyes of the others), not even realising her own worth, in form of resentful comments from other characters, was a weak way of turning the narrative. Like look, everybody actually adored her, really!! And the ones who didn't, were just jealous of her perfection!! Yeah, okay.

At the end, the author kinda gave us some growing up for the heroine, and I was happy she got a chance to be happy... Yet so much was just glossed over, left unresolved or inadequately resolved, it wasn't enough.

On the bright side, the writing was good, I loved the kink and I loved Patrick - he was quite awesome. Marcus and Amelia, two side characters, were great.

All in all, if you are looking for an erotic inspiration for your bedroom, don't look further! Don't expect much more though.

College is a fun experience, its you, your laptop and your 64 oz bottle of water against the world. Running from the pro lifers, the people who are always petitioning for something (good things but still a girl is already 30 minutes late to class leave her alone), detoxing from all the 1-phenylpropan-2-amine you took while promising you're never touching that again and lets not forget encountering the frat guy who is now in your physics class after telling him at the party you're going to the bathroom and ditching him. Awkward? Couldn't relate.

This book, I can't rave about it enough. I am just going to leave some of the things I've highlighted and I implore you to read this book. I am now a major fan of Miranda Silver. I might binge everything she's ever written. Miss Silver was in my head, messing with my mind. Providing the perfect man. God I love Patrick, the man just does it for me.

โ€œSometimes, I canโ€™t come at all.โ€
โ€œSure you can,โ€ he said, as matter-of-fact as if he were talking about hitting the gym. He toyed with my waist, brushing the bare skin below my shirt. โ€œYou just havenโ€™t tried. Or you havenโ€™t found a guy who can take you there.โ€

โ€œGod help me, I was hungry for that money. The bills looked so gorgeous, so full of promise, I almost grabbed them. Instead, I wiped my sweaty hands on my leggings.โ€
This book was so filthy, Patrick is a KINKSTER!

โ€œYou donโ€™t like me. Youโ€™re so ashamed that you have a strangerโ€™s fingers in your pussy. Youโ€™re embarrassed that Iโ€™m hurting you and you love it. Youโ€™re humiliated that youโ€™re going to spread your legs for me on my bed and let me put my dick inside you.โ€

โ€œYou feel so tight and new,โ€ he crooned. I arched into his hands. โ€œIโ€™d almost sayโ€ฆinnocent. But we both know the truth. Youโ€™re anything but innocent. I donโ€™t have a sweet little virgin over my lap. I know it. Your family knows it too.โ€

Okay thats it for now.

Iโ€™m definitely going to read more from Miranda Silver after being introduced to her writing with Priceless. This book is not for everybody but if youโ€™re into erotica, like I am, and a dark and dominating hero then this is right up your alley.
Patrick and Christina make an arrangement and it contains sex. A lot of it. Patrick is not holding back. Heโ€™s verbally ruthless and rough but always offers Christina the opportunity to say stop. They are two consenting adults. Throughout their arrangement Christina learns new sides of herself and about her so-called friends. Patrick is a fascinating character who has a lot of secrets I couldnโ€™t wait to figure out. He also sees everything including Christina and the facade she portrays. As cold as he seems heโ€™s so much more. I was completely entranced by him and oh man did he have a DIRTY MOUTH on him. Lordy! I had to fan myself numerous times. I struggled with Christina mainly because of her repetitive behavior but it didnโ€™t affect my enjoyment of Priceless.
All in all Priceless was one hell of a sensual and erotic ride. Miranda Silver satisfied my dark and dirty mind all thanks to Patrick whoโ€™s going to occupy my thoughts for quite awhile.

PRICELESS is not as dark as I thought it would be and is actually quite sweet, which may shock you about a book where a degradation kink awakening makes up the bulk of the plot. Christina is a hot mess, a disappointment to her family, a pale shadow of her successful older sister, and so insecure in her own skin that she uses adderall to give herself the bounce that she needs to be the fun good-time party girl she thinks everyone else loves. The only person she's never fooled is a stoic frat guy named Patrick, who knows exactly what she needs:

She needs to be humiliated, used, and paid for sex.

The transactional mistress trope is one of my faves (I blame Harlequin) and it's done so well here. Every sex scene intensifies their chemistry and relationship while also unlocking clues about their secrets, because both Christina and Patrick are hiding things about their pasts that have given them deep trauma. The side characters were also really interesting and evolved in surprisingly pleasant ways, especially Marcus, Dexter, Amelia, and Sydney.

I waffled on how to rate this but I'm bumping the rating up just loved the core message of this story so much: that it's okay not to be perfect and to put yourself first. It's also about cutting toxic people out of your life and either choosing to forgive them or not (both happen here) but only on your own terms. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.

3.5 very conflicted โญ๏ธ's

I just wished that they'd gotten together sooner. I really wanted more moments of them as a couple bc we only saw them in this arrangement and never saw them falling in love. they were the same throughout the book and that kinda fell flat for me.

overall, I really enjoyed the book. the plot, storying and characters were all amazing. they had a lot of potential, but imo, it didn't reach the standards that it could have.

I love being wrong about a book. ๐Ÿ˜… I was sure Iโ€™d h@te this. I mean whatโ€™s to like about a dr#g addict party girl p*mp*ng herself out to her classmate for d*rty smexx? ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Sounds like MY worst nightmareโ€ฆ. And yetโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ‘€

It somehow won me over. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜…

๐Ÿ’—The h was a sympathetic character. She was vulnerable and flawed. Behind the hot mess party girl facade was a girl with a huge heart who craved to be seen. I found her to be lovable and surprisingly relatable.

๐Ÿ’—The H is calm cool and collected. His mystery is helped along by the way the author limited his POV. I loved it. We only hear from him when she has some pertinent information to drop. (Exactly how I like it ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ) Heโ€™s so dominant and mean, reveling in mean dirty smexx โ€ฆ but he has a sweet side too, and was just as good at praise. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ’—I loved how he called her โ€œbabyโ€ and โ€œprincessโ€ with just enough meanness to make it ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ He was j/p and protective. He was dominant and aggressive and controlling. He hands out a mean sp@nking. ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿ™ƒ Lucky b*tch. ๐Ÿคก #alphaholesaremyjam

It was all a pleasant surprise. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Thereโ€™s a lot of smexx here, but also a real plot with conflict and angst. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

.

The main drawbacks were the rushed ending. I thought she tied up the conflicts with the villains too neatly. They deserved more punishment, IMO. Also, I would have liked to have seen a more swoony declaration from the hero, and real demonstration of his devotion and commitment, especially since we were told he was so obsessed with his previous partner. I wished the author had really driven home that his feelings were way more for the h. A real definitive confrontation and tell off to the mysterious OW would have been nice, too.

.

Bottom Line? I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ I was totally expecting to hate it. I would love to read more from this author. โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

โš ๏ธSAFETY SQUAD SPOILERSโš ๏ธ

- no cheating or sharing

- dubcon-ish - the H is paying the h for smexx but the h needs the moneyโ€ฆ so thereโ€™s a little coercion involved

- OW drama - the H has an ex that calls, but he shakes her off and cuts ties. Sheโ€™s never appears on page except in a flashback. - the h sees the H talking to a random girl at a party and gets jealous

- OM drama - the h has recently broken up with a long-term boyfriend. Heโ€™s still around. - she also dances with OM at a party to make the H jealous

No thoughts. Just Patrick.

I loved this so much. The balance between spice and plot was *chefโ€™s kiss*. My angst-loving heart was satisfied too. My chest started to hurt towards the end, oh my god.

โ€œI love you.โ€ His rough voice pulled an involuntary sound from me. โ€œYou're mine, Christina. You always have been, from the first time I touched you.โ€

this book wasโ€ฆ something. i really dont know where i sit with it?? it couldve been worse i dont think it was terrible it justโ€ฆ threw me off?? idk

first off, i hate the ex boyfriend and the best friend jeez those two are so fucking annoying and the way christina forgave sydney??? im sorry what?! no no no honey, she deserves a punch

there was a lot of smut. i wouldnt consider it good smut tho. it was pretty repetitive and boring ngl i wasnt really into. also some parts made me laugh like im sorry, but i cant take some of it seriously

this book was just something else. i feel like my brain is just dead after reading it. not particularly in a bad way fjdkkfkg its an alright read ig

PLOT หŽหŠห—
basically christina splurges all her money on alcohol, drugs, etc and ends up broke. then comes patrick who swoops in and is like โ€ill give you money and you have sex with meโ€ and then things get going. ummm drama happens, friends are toxic, secrets are exposed. yeah and then ofc it doesnt stay โ€casualโ€

ok, but like why cant i imagine a guy with the name patrick to be like thatโ€ฆ yeah idk

it was a college romance which i like. if they were high schoolers i would beโ€ฆ very concerned. i mean should we even talk about the plot?? was there even a fucking plot?? this book was 95% smut soโ€ฆ yeah??

ROMANCE + SMUT หŽหŠห—
idk what to call their relationship. it wasnt exactly friends with benefits since they werent really friends. its just like casual sex plus money lol

ummm the romanceโ€ฆ was eh. idk i just felt like their love for each other was basic and just like any other love. โ€its not just sex. i love you. i want you. oh baby, oh babyโ€ lmao i just reference 10 things i hate about you fjskkfkf n e ways not the point

as i was saying, it wasnt that amazing. there were some cute parts with the aftercare and the way he takes care of her and makes her breakfast. say less also the way he plays with her hair?? i think that was fucking cute

even the smut was pretty eh. it was just way too repetitive and she came SO BLOODY MUCH like she went from โ€i never cum. its hard for meโ€ to finishing 583895 timesโ€ฆ get it ig

the dirty talk was uhhhh idk it was ok. some things he said were kinda cringe like this :

โ€œChristina,โ€ he whispered, drawing the syllables out. โ€œYou told me you were โ€˜very wet.โ€™โ€ He found my clit and pressed in through the sopping fabric. โ€œI donโ€™t think that describes whatโ€™s going on down here. Youโ€™re dripping. Youโ€™re fucking soaked. Youโ€™re a river of girl cum.โ€

also i dont think i can ever hear the word โ€juicesโ€ ever again cjskgklg

some of the descriptions were kinda questionable tooโ€ฆ

โ€œJesus, my panties were soaked, my pussy was gushing, and I was fucking terrified. Iโ€™d never wanted a guy so badly. Walk away, walk away, walk away, my mind chanted.โ€

when christina tried to dirty talk i had to skim it tho cause i was cringing so hard gjdkkgkg kinda wished that she took the opportunity to take charge better but ig she didnt sigh

oh and there was phone sex. nothing interesting there lmao if youโ€™re interested in degrading and praising kink then this is for you. oh and he gets off on her embarrassment?? i know some people are into that but it really wasnt for me

CHARACTERS หŽหŠห—

christina :
โคท should get better friends

her friends suck. honestly hated like all of them lol fjskfkkf and the way she was clueless about her ex and her best friend. the red flags tho??

her family were fucking annoying. jeez the way they would compare her to her sister likeโ€ฆ let the girl live. no kid is gonna be a copy and paste of their sibling tf

chrstina was ok. didnt really hate or love her. its just eh ig idk she just was naive and ngl she was going through a shit ton

she just need a vacation and relax tbh lmao

patrick :
โคท his name throws me off um

his name throws me off help ckkskfkg but n e ways. he was sweet. he had like these soft moments and heโ€™s a huge person on the cuddles damn

his whole โ€mum and ex situationโ€ was confusing me the whole book and then when i knew the truth i was just sad for him ngl

idk heโ€™s just your typical mysterious boy whoโ€™s apparently really good at sex ummm yeah?? ok idk what to say

CONCLUSION หŽหŠห—
it was fun. yeah. ummm idk what else to say it was ok ig. ok bye <3

Frankly the ending was a huge letdown.

Great book overall, the writing was neat, efficace and eloquent.

The story was very entertaining and I love the โ€œrelationshipโ€ between Patrick and Christina, some decisions/scenes were strange not going to lie (and some characters acted like 5 years old) but I like it nonetheless.

The smut was A+ and canโ€™t we talk about how the hero knew how to use dirty talk? ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘€

My issues came when I was around 80% in the book, pretty close to the climax of the story and sadly the execution was not the best in my opinion.
It felt rushed, messy and very confusing.

Iโ€™m not even sure what really happens regarding Patrickโ€™s family issues and Iโ€™m not even sure what did happened with Alexis and Daniel wedding dramaโ€ฆ Some problems werenโ€™t solved, for example Christinaโ€™s relationship with her parents.

To me the big scandal was supposed to be the moment where youโ€™re a like โ€œ oh that explains why Patrick behaved that wayโ€ or โ€œ oh I get it knowโ€ and lmao I was confused AF because it didnโ€™t made much sense.
Ugh so frustrating!

I wanted to give this book a 4 stars but in truth the middle/ending just sour the entire book in my eyes, so letโ€™s say 3.5 stars!

Little rant:

Iโ€™m a bit more critical with books nowadays even when I donโ€™t exactly know how to put my thoughts in words but often times I try to be the most honest possible regarding my rating and I donโ€™t want to give stars just to give them.

Sadly (or fortunately for some) Iโ€™ve noticed with the rise of TikTok for example that a lot of the hyped books that Iโ€™ve read or 5 stars reviews I have seen regarding popular books are WAY too overrated in MY opinion and this can lead to a huge disappointment especially if youโ€™re paying for the book full price.

Fortunately, in my case I have Kindle Unlimited and most of the books that I read are available on there, but I want to be honest for the people who can miraculously came across one of my reviews when reading GR reviews before deciding to purchase a novel or not.

Reading is my life and I read daily so, I know that it can quickly be a very pricey hobby so yeah, hyping books may be amazing for the authors and a lot of them deserves to be in the light but sometimes It can be a disservice for some customers.

Anyways ! Thatโ€™s the end of my rant, so in a nutshell I try to rate fairly (like a lot of people here) and I usually donโ€™t give 5 stars reviews easily but thankfully opinions are only personal.

This book shocked the hell out of me Iโ€™ll tell you that. I went into it blind & THANK GOD I did that . When things started happening I was so shocked and turned on I didnโ€™t know what to do with myself.

Patrick? Holy fuck that mans mouth is FILTHY. I wished I was in Christinaโ€™s shoes for just one night. How did this author write such a sweet and caring asshole? He was perfection you guys like honestly he did everything right in my eyes.

Christina poor kitten just wanted to be seen. Always the pushover, the nice girl, the cookie girl, the girl who brought snacks and the runner up to her older sister never anyoneโ€™s number one. My heart hurt for her and the interactions with her parents pissed me off. I never understood parents who do that to their kids, compare them and talk down to them, itโ€™s sad.

Patrick and Christina together was fireworks honestly. Their chemistry was off the goddamn charts tbh 5/5. I had kitty butterflies the ENTIRE TIME okay constant throbbing๐Ÿ’€They just fit, I loved the relationship dynamics. Christina thought she was the one who needed something but really they both needed things from each other. It was an equal give and take. The dom/sub play in here was done so well I LOVED IT & ate that shit up *chefs kiss* I really wanna give this 5 stars but I didnโ€™t like how quickly the altercation at the end was fixed maybe I just love groveling too much. But it was a perfect story so I dunno maybe itโ€™s just me.. imma stick with 5 bc I was obsessed & it made me feel all the feels.

Thank you Purabi and everyone on Twitter for never stopping talking about this book because it made me want to pick it up. I'm so happy that I got to read it because oh my god I'm obsessed with this story and the romance inside.

If you are looking for "I hate everyone but her" romances, Priceless is the perfect choice for you. Our hero, Patrick, is that type of ice, cold king hero. He rarely smiles, rarely jokes around. You most likely will find him just brooding in the corner, talking dirty to you, and being his sexy self. This is how Christina actually meets him for the first time, just gazing at her. Their relationship starts as a deal: they have sex together every other day and he pays Christina some cash for each encounter.

THIS IS STEAMY MY FRIENDS. There are so many smutty scenes, so many sex scenes in this book. Ooof you will need to fan yourself constantly. Christina gets off on being humiliated (and Patrick too on humiliating her!) so there is a lot of that in their bedroom scenes. Plus I love when a romance hero is all like "This is only sex, a transaction, we aren't in a relationship" and then they are the firsts to act like they are in a relationship CAN YOU STOP PUNCHING MY HEART PLEASE.

Overall, I really liked this book and I'm definitely going to be here for more Miranda Silver novels. Expect lots of secrets and angsty emotions, because oh my god these two are going to go on a wild ride. I'm so happy Silver decided to include Patrick POV chapters because I needed them so badly. I get lots of nervous whenever there are angsty situations and YUP I just wanted to know his thoughts throughout the book!

PS. Thank you to Aveda Vice who was there for me whenever I needed to scream about this book lol!

0.5 stars (goodreads give me the opportunity to use this rating I'm begging).

I'm embarassed for whoever wrote this, I lost half of my braincells while readig this. I enjoy some dark and erotica books, I've read only a few but those actually had a PLOT and good steamy scenes which is something this book lacks.. there's not plot, just sex I mean it after chapter 3 I think all you have is sex scenes and I love sex scenes but wow there was no context for those in Priceless and ALL the dirty talk was so cringe (and this is coming from someone who loves to read dirty talk in books).

What happens in this book (in order):
Dumb college girl loses her money because she tries to fit in and pays everyone food and drinks. She needs money so agrees to sleep with another college student til the end of the semester. They have sex, he humiliates her (it's dark romance material this part I get), they have sex, more sex, a little more, a lot more, more sex, more, she whines about her sister being better than her and her family thinking she should be like her sister, sex, sex, more sex, have I mentioned sex? Oh and obsessed ex boyfriend, and then there's ONLY sex til 85% of the book. Then we have some slutshaming (more dark romance material, I know whg it'sin the book), a bit of the love interest's backstory, his motivations (so shitty), then some problem with the money she was saving and then she ends up with the guy.

Now: who wouldn't think this is PLOTless, pointless, an empty and boring book??? I'm jealous of everyone who never read this and never will. It took me more than ten days to finish it I won't even elaborate a better review, I don't reccomend it that's all.

*** Book Q & A***

* How did the book make you feel?: I really enjoyed this book. There was good chemistry and it realistically portrayed college students, imo.

* How do you feel about how the story was told?: The plot didnโ€™t drag and there was wild chemistry between the MCโ€™s. I enjoyed the secondary characters too.

* What did you think about the main characters?: At first Christina got on my last nerve because she was so self-absorbed and irresponsible, but she grew on me. I liked Patrickโ€™s mysterious nature and I loved his filthy mouth. The chemistry was hot!

* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: I liked how Patrick was always there for Christina even though he didnโ€™t want to be.

* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: escort-turned-gf, overcoming addiction

* What did you think about the ending?: I was glad they ended up together but I really wanted an extended epilogue.

* What is your impression of the author?: This was my first read by this author and I liked it.

4.20 Stars

Patrick: 22, Brown hair, BLUE eyes (%70 of the male MCs), of course tall, distanced, hurt inside but cool outside kind of guy, he has his own drama (mostly family issues) and he is basically a heartbroken teen who thinks Love is for losers. (After his drama is revealed some might think oh so that's it? But assuming that he is basically still a teen, it's enough for me. I miss those extreme teeny feelings tbh.)

description

Christina: 20, Dark brown eyes, dark hair, ex-cheerleader, she has insecurities but she is still flirty and confident. She always put others first, She is one of those people who cannot easily say No. She is genuinely nice and giving. She is also anxious and tries her best(!) to manage her stress problem. She has a perfect older sister that her annoying parents always compare to her. (But Christina still adores her and the sisters actually have a good relationship, and I loved this fact, I hate it when sisters canโ€™t get along.) Shortly I totally loved Christina she is one of the characters that I related to most.

description

STORY:

Christina is in need of money but, she is too proud to ask for her judgy parentโ€™s help. Partick is totally heartbroken from his previous relationship and he is looking for no strings attached. What is a better solution than offering money for this RIGHT?

She is offended, felt degraded at first but she is also thrilled and aroused by the idea also. And I wanted her to feel this way?โ€ฆ Cause I felt the same...? Okayyyy.

PROS:

*I like both of the characters and them as a couple

*Patrick isnโ€™t the richest of them all he actually has his own money problems, and he likes his life standards to be high. Also, he is not the most popular and beloved one on the campus. Nice touch.

FOOTNOTES:

*I like that Patrick encourages Christina to put herself first. Besides their deal, I liked their couple balance.

*I related to Christina's self-punishment system as well. She was intentionally making mistakes to hurt herself, but at the same time, she was reminding herself that it was okay to make mistakes too.
description

*This book is full of sex, but I enjoyed it. Sometimes it was a bit too MUCH (Especially the Usage of Slut Word, like why?) but I liked them overall.

*Hello, darkness my old friend is singing in my mind whenever I look at this book. But I am hurt that Christina didnโ€™t know this song.

EYE ROLLS:

*EW to red riding hood and the wolf fantasy, nope that wasnโ€™t for me.

*Special Hate to Christina's so-called BFFs and douche ex. Also her judgy parents. Shame on you all.

*Dirty Talk too much Patrick? (Hmm not a big fan of his dirty talking, sorry)

*Christina has orgasm problems, she always fakes it TILL Patrick ofc, with him, this issue is easily solved. Cause DUH! Isn't it what the heroes are for? Right...

*This is a general statement. In maany books this kind of relationships are starting as ''oh there won't ever be love between us, nothing serious, no strings attachedโ€ฆโ€™โ€™ BUT somehow they end up as ''You are mine, I am marking you bla bla bla...โ€™โ€™ Why? Isn't there sth in between. Isnโ€™t ''I love you'' enough? Why belonging and markings? Are you werewolves bound to be mates?

OVERALL:

I really like this book and I loved Christina. My selfless babe, she is the best part of the book. I completely related to her. Also, Patrick is fine, nothing makes him stand out in the crowd for me but he is likable. AND I loved them as a couple. The story is good, not perfect maybe BUT It is a fast and easy read. I liked the end and I truly enjoyed how everything played out.

''Everything has its price.''
''Nah. You are priceless.''

202o has not been a good year for writing reviews. I've fallen into a bad habit of finishing a book and forgetting to write a review until much later, on top of forgetting what I wanted to say.

What I CAN remember:

This book was really sexy. The chemistry between the characters was off the charts. BUT I wish the hero has shown more vulnerability around the heroine. The heroine was constantly in distress or in a weaker position financially and emotionally, so having the hero be there for her at the end would have tied up the romance better. Since this book had to do the classic "Im breaking up with you because I dont deserve you" as the climax, their HEA felt rushed and unfinished.

Safety, as much as I can remember:
No other people after meeting
No cheating
Slight OW/OM drama
Both H/h get off on humiliation and degradation during sex
H isnt a manwhore, h isnt a virgin
You get alot of details on the hero's past sex life with his ex. She calls him and fucks with his head and his current relationship with the h.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

so, i finished this, because curiosity killed the cat, and i really wanted to know why this story takes like 500+ pages to conclude. man was this a horrible mistake. christina is so obtuse it took her until the end of the book to realise that her "best friend" sydney is a walking, talking red flag. the plot... well there was no plot. the sex... it was mid. overall, it stays at 1 star, and i should've left it as dnf.

3.5 stars for this deliciously steamy book. Wasnโ€™t too sure about the degradation and humiliation kink, but sprinkle a few โ€œbabyโ€™s, sweethearts, and I love youโ€™sโ€, and Iโ€™m all yours!

tropes: strangers to lovers, and interracial romance
