Emma Rose (ER) Johnston, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and Jesse Anderson, a well-known Nova Scotia wildlife artist, are a match made in heaven. After a year of marriage, the two are more in love than ever. The arrival of identical twins, completes their idyllic little family, which includes six-year-old Skye, Jesse’s temperamental daughter from a former marriage. One dark cloud threatens their horizons—Skye has rejected her stepmother from the first, and makes it perfectly clear she has no use for her new brothers either. It is only much later, after tragedy strikes, that the walls she has erected finally crumble.
This book beautifully wrapped up the trilogy. As I said before, Ms. Whitman is a wonderful storyteller. She makes you feel like you know these characters., as you follow along with their trials and tribulations of real life. It’s not all sunshine and roses. There are tragic events as well. Just like real life. I did shed some tears. But caught myself smiling more often than not. And there were a few jaw dropping moments. Her love of animals, nature and art shine throughout the book. These are things that are dear to me. So I would say that we are on the same page. Keep up with the storytelling Ms. Whitman. Looking forward to your next book.
How High the Moon “How High the Moon” is the third novel in the “Finding Home Trilogy” written by Nova Scotia author Shirley C. Whitman. Every character in this novel is richly drawn and we are pulled into their struggles from the beginning. We see them grow and stumble and grow again. The story moves skillfully from one family crisis to another. When a profound tragedy strikes, drowning the family deep in grief, we wonder if they can find the strength to heal. The author has done her research well. We learn a lot about wildlife refuges and the threats inherent in wildlife interactions with man. We gain knowledge of the work of rescue centers and their care of animals and birds suffering at the hands of humans. Ultimately “How High the Moon, is a love story; a love of animals, a love of art, a love of family and the love of a young couple struggling to bring them all together. This gripping novel is an intriguing follow up to the first two books in the trilogy. We the readers will easily slip into the life of this young family in this small Nova Scotia community. I followed them eagerly throughout their trials and celebrations and I was sorry to leave them at the end of this, the final book of the trilogy. “How High the Moon,” was published by “Club Lighthouse Publishing,” now located in Toronto, Ontario. It was published first in e-book format in November 2019 and released in paperback in June 2020. It is available on Amazon.

Her story and characters are warm and loveable and real people with real lives and loves and problems and solutions. Again I laughed and cried with and for the wonderful characters in this book. Go ahead and read these stories....you won't regret it I assure you!!!
