Buy this book! And read it, of course. If the machines would erect a world government and threaten to destroy all books ever written, except one, I would chose to preserve this one. I have already ordered copies for my brother, my parents and my best friend. If you are a reasonably mindful person, you have already read all the little bits of information presented in this book, in blog posts, other books, news articles, documentaries. You will have said to yourself “yeah, I get it, sleep is important”, you will have tried to sleep a little more for a week or two and then you would fall back to your usual habits, hunting that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, working hard, partying harder.Read. This. Book. If you are anything like me, and you sleep at midnight and wake up at 6:30 or 7 and you drink one or two cups of coffee per day and you think you are a really cool high performing individual... Read. This. Book.Except for being tortured at Guantanamo Bay and taking sleeping pills, I can proudly let you know that I have done Every. Single. Possible. Sleeping mistake you could possibly do that is described in this book. If the science in this book checks out, I'll probably die at age 60 or so. So yeah, if you are worried that the things described in this book are exaggerated, let me promise you: they are real. I have experienced them all with my own body.Luckily, I have also often bounced back in my life and taken corrective actions, so I can also attest that the positive effects of sleep as described in this book are true as well - especially the parts about learning motor skills for sports and instruments and extreme creativity, but also the parts about anxiety, depression, insomnia, appetite. Read. This. Book. The book is even quite a pleasure to read. It is very well structured. The chapters are short and straight to the point. The language is very accessible, the author adds his own opinions and a few jokes here and there for the needed human touch, but also adds in sufficient scientific jargon, graphs and numbers to speak with authority (and allow you actually learn a thing or two). The knowledge in this book is not taught in common education. You owe it to yourself, your children and your parents (once they become elderly) to know this shit. On our current trajectory, with everyone glued to their screens, working remote jobs and micro jobs possibly 24/7, permanent access to infinite entertainment, our society WILL fall apart, it already is right in front of our sleep deprived eyes.I'm begging you: Read. This. Book.
I liked the idea of a summary and felt that this probably did a reasonable summary of the book. However, I was struck by the poor writing skills of the author of the summary, it was obviously not reviewed by an editor.
