The Ghosts of Roseby Hall, by Jeanette Taylor Ford.
This is the first book I have read by this author, and I absolutely loved it.
A modern-day drama with a link to the past.
Beth didn’t understand what was happening to her; the strange dreams were becoming more frequent and insistent. Who was that handsome man she saw who thrilled her with just a smile?
Beth left her home in London to inspect the house her parents had decided to spend the rest of their lives in. Derbyshire was beautiful and Beth too fell under its spell. Not far from Beth’s parents home stood the old ruins of the now abandoned Roseby Hall, steeped in history and the once elegant grandeur of times gone by.
Beth enjoyed painting, and a new career beckoned as the ‘Old Hall’ called to her.
This tale began in an easy delightful way, and I was thoroughly enjoying the light-heartedness of the characters and the gently unfolding story.
Boy was I wrong!
Before I knew it the story had plunged into a full-blown ghost story with all the frights and scares of an unpredictable plot peppered with ghostly apparitions. The story galloped along with romance in the air.
Compelling and intriguing, I was engrossed from the very first page. Well-crafted characters in a beautifully descriptive story. I could visualise each scene. A well-written story full of twists and turns, and one that I really enjoyed.

Enchanting right through
Beth at her parents new house sleeping over is hearing voices in her sleep, Elizabeth come to me dearest, she was staying to inspect the place her parents are going to be living up from London, an absolutely gorgeous house in Derbyshire that use to be the dairy in the old Roseby hall. Beth is known by many names, Liz, Elizabeth, even Topsy by her dad. Back home in London her job and fiance Brian are far from her mind she was desperate to check out this place, did she believe in ghosts? She adores it here, so time for home and time for changes, finishing her relationship and taking redundancy from her job, selling her flat, she was soon to return and settle in. This is such a lovely story. So much detail and research is added along the way. So enchanting throughout. Such a remarkable place to read about, I loved every page with all its history. Beth made all the good choices.

Thank you to the author for a copy. Review given freely and all opinions are my own.
The Ghosts of Roseby Hall. An enjoyable paranormal ghost mystery. The author has a pleasing voice and the story left me with a feel good feeling.
The ghostly drama and romance suspense is a little slow to develop but this leaves time for the characters, setting and plot to develop.
And the story is wrapped up well. There is a short section at the end explaining the inspiration for the story: a mansion in Sutton Scarsdale built by the 4th Earl of Scarsdale which is interesting, giving this an appealing, personal touch. I like stories which are inspired by actual places, etc.
Overall, this is a nice uncomplicated story of ancestral lives and family secrets, focusing on a haunted house, Roseby Hall, with the threat of ghostly menace portrayed without being frightening, or disturbing to the reader.
So a gentle, mysterious family tale of loved ones lost with romantic feel good elements.
4 stars.

When Beth leaves London to move in with her parents in their new Derbyshire home, she is entranced by the nearby ruins of Roseby Hall and begins painting scenes from it. But it’s the old hall, and those that once lived in it, that forms the heart of this story – no spoilers, you have to read it yourself. The author has crafted an excellent modern ghost story that is traditional in style, and it works perfectly. Especially with some romance added.
Highly recommended.

This is the first book I've read by Jeantte Taylor Ford and what a wonderful book to begin with!
Beth's parents have moved to Derbyshire and their new house is next to an old ruined mansion called Roseby Hall. Beth finds hersef being bewitched by the ruins and is inexplicably drawn to them when she first goes to visit her parents.
When Beth's personal circumstances change she leaves her London home and moves in with parents while she re-evaluates her life. Things begin to fall into place for her, a new venture and new friends but once again she feels the pull of Roseby Hall and strange things happen. Unbeknown to Beth, one of her new friends knows exactly what is going on and will have to act quickly or the consequences could prove to be fatal!
I throughly enjoyed reading this spooky tale of ghosts, romance and times gone by and raced through it in one sitting. I was enchanted by the descriptions of the countryside, but I was especially taken by those of Roseby Hall in all it's glory. When I discovered that it was inspired by an actual Grade 1 listed Georgian ruined stately home, I headed straight to good old Google to see it for myself and then realised that the building in the background of the cover looks suspiciously similar, if not the same as what I found online.
Despite being a relatively short book, it certainly wasn't lacking in any way. The plot was cleverly thought out, the characters were nicely devoloped and the writing was so wonderfully descriptive that I felt like I was within the walls of Roseby Hall witnessing the majestic interiors with my own eyes.
Jeanette Taylor Ford certainly knows how to tell a story and I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future.

I found this story utterly compelling.
I'd never heard of this author but won a copy of this book in an online competition. I'm so glad I did. Jeanette's writing is so engaging and I have since been following her social media to keep up to date with her latest releases.
This book in particular spoke to me because I'm a lover of anything paranormal (especially a bit of paranormal romance!). It's been a while since I read it (I've just discovered I hadn't left a review!) but I remember being completely intrigued by the strange goings on at Roseby Hall and the history behind it.
The characters felt real and I loved the twist of modern life meets history as Beth leaves behind her mundane city life and delves into the charming history of the old ruin opposite her parents' new home in the country.
A few scenes still stick with me, such as when Beth enters the hall (a derelict ruin from the outside) and comes face to face with how it was before... full of (after) life!
I found this book witty, quaint, and charming. Deffinitely a nice cosy read of an evening. I would gladly revisit this haunting tale again, and I'm holding out hope that Jeanette is haunted once more by the occupance of Rooseby Hall and provides us with a sequel!!!!
Loved the plot. Love the writing. Loved the characters.
Highly recommend!

Beth is not satisfied with her life. She hates her job and her relationship with her fiancé Brian has turned stale. So she resolves to do something about both and soon she is moving to the quiet village of Roseby with her parents in order to make a new life for herself. As soon as she gets there though she meets the mysterious and handsome Rick and things slowly start to materialise between them two although something from Rick’s past is stopping him from committing to Beth. However at the same time Beth notices spooky going ons at Roseby Hall and she feels drawn to the equally handsome and mysterious ghost of the Earl who used to reside there. She’s having weird dreams of the Earl and they’re steadily getting more intense. But could the ghosts of Roseby Hall be more malevolent than she first thought and what has it got to do with Rick’s past? This is a sweet romance story with a bucket load of suspense as we figure out the supernatural mystery of the ghostly hauntings. It’s quite a short story as well compared to the author’s other work. Which isn’t a complaint. The character development wasn’t hindered. Paired with the authors fast paced and descriptive writing style I was fully invested in the story and it went by in a breeze in two sittings.

I bought this book when it first came out but have only just found time to read it. I found it the perfect antidote to other books in my collection and it reminded me how much I enjoy the combination of a good ghost story and a romance. A ghostly Earl? Who could resist? I also loved the author’s descriptions of Rosebay Hall as I am a complete sucker for old manor houses and the lives of their previous occupants. But there’s a modern twist to this tale, too, in the form of Rick and the new life Beth is hoping to establish in Derbyshire. I’ve read several of Ms Ford’s previous books and this one has been added to my list of favourites, too.

A charming, gentle, fast-paced story of hope and new beginnings, set in a lovely, idyllic Derbyshire village and near an old ruined mansion called Roseby Hall.
The tale involves Beth and her family. Her parents have recently moved house. Beth's life changes, and she decides to leave London and move in with her parents while she re-evaluates her future. She is a talented artist and feels a strange pull to Roseby Hall. While visiting the ruins of the Hall, Beth begins to see the house and its occupants as it was in the past. What could it mean?
This is an uncomplicated, feel-good story with likeable characters that is told with warmth, weaving romance and supernatural elements together.

A spookily lovely read.
Well written, strong plot and characters with some naughty spirits thrown. Roseby Hall stands derelict, a mere hint to a once grand building. However, some eyes that spy its form, behold not just its former glory but those that frequented its corridors, so many years before. Beth feels an instant connection, but is unaware of possible dangers...
Really enjoyed this clever tale.

Ghostly goings on!
Captivating whispers from Old Hall, an unfaithful fiancé and the chance of taking redundancy is enough to make up Beth Watson's mind to leave her life in London and follow her parents into the beautiful scenic Derbyshire, where Roseby Hall does more than call to her.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Ghosts of Roseby Hall by Jeanette Taylor Ford and found it to be a charming and engrossing ghost story with likeable characters and well-written. Recommended to those who love a good ghost story!

A love story with a bit of spook and a sprinkling of chilly creep factor. This is a well-told gentle ghost story that blends mystery and romance. I like that the story is uncomplicated and flows easily and simply. The mystery of Roseby Hall, though, has a sting in its tail. Other things I enjoyed are the descriptions of both the scenery and the hall, which lend character to this charming story. I also appreciated the lack of blood and guts. As a short read, I’d recommend it.

It's an absorbing read with warm characters and a sense of community. And in amongst that is a secret that threatens the happiness of one individual, and a mystery bound up in history and the supernatural. A romantic tale with a difference!

Charming!
This is a charming ghost story. I love the modern day reach into the romantic past. The author creates a vivid world around the story. The characters are relatable and well developed. And the romance aspect is heartwarming. Don’t miss the quick, but moving, read!

I’m happy with a good old ghost story, any day. This book’s a good blend of romance, mystery, period, and the supernatural. Beth moves to a small village in Derbyshire, England, and the descriptions of the scenery are breathtaking. This is another biggie for me. The vivid descriptions of Roseby Hall (the little hall, too) the characters and the setting bring the book to life. The new and otherworldly characters are cleverly interwoven, with a satisfying mystery for readers to unravel.
A mix of the ethereal and the earthly brings love, betrayal, and the supernatural. The threat of death injects urgency and excitement into the quaint pleasantness and the author’s skilful storytelling, and rich character development, make this an engaging read. The ideal story for people who like a blend of history, period settings, romance, and the supernatural.
