Silverstone #2

Trusting Taylor

Rate this book
From New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker comes a scorching Silverstone installment that finds a former military man racing to save the woman he loves as danger closes in on them both.

Former military man turned government assassin Kellan “Eagle” Trowbridge isn’t looking for love. He’d rather keep his head down at his cover job as an employee of Silverstone Towing. That all changes, however, when he meets Taylor Cardin.

Beautiful, smart, and witty Taylor instantly falls for the mysterious tow truck driver, who comforts her both in the aftermath of the car crash she sees firsthand and when the police dismiss her as a credible witness because of her prosopagnosia, or face blindness. Eagle, on the other hand, can remember every person he’s ever met—and the two counterparts forge an immediate connection. But someone else is just as intrigued by Taylor’s unique condition as Eagle is…and his intentions are downright deadly.

Soon, Eagle and Taylor are too caught up in each other to see the danger that’s approaching. But as time runs out, they’ll discover their love isn’t the only thing fighting to survive.

Loved the opposites attract theme in this one. I can’t even imagine how hard life would be with the kind of condition Taylor has. Eagle was perfect for her.

As much as I enjoy the hero protector, the evil in these series are extremely vile and sometimes hard to read the acts or thoughts of them.

I don’t have a ton to say about Trusting Taylor. It was entertaining and sweet, like book 1 in the series. It was also free on KU, so thumbs up to that.

Some minor(ish) issues:

1. The author needs to up her game on writing steam scenes. There was a lot of awkwardness in the first book and that awkwardness continued in the second. It is almost as if the author is uncomfortable writing those parts. If she is, totally cool. Omit it altogether and keep it light.

2. There’s a serial killer in this book who wants to do awful things to Taylor. In my mind, this is what he looked like:

description

Despite the author’s attempt to create an evil character, I couldn’t help but picture someone tiptoeing around in a cape. I just couldn’t buy into it.

Other than that, I liked the book. I liked Eagle and Taylor. I liked the other characters. And I really liked that this book was free on KU. I’m *probably* going to read the third book, but I might take a break from this series and get into something that is a little grittier.

Susan Stoker is one of my favorite authors and she certainly didn't disappoint with Trusting Taylor. Writing a review without giving away any spoilers, well, it's hard! Taylor suffers from prosopagnosia, meaning her brain does not allow her to recognize faces. So seeing Eagle each day is like meeting him and seeing him for the very first time. Eagle found a way to make Taylor feel safe when she sees a stranger with every person she meets. Everyone needs an Eagle in their life. He loves her just as she is and although, like any relationship, they hit a few bumps in the road. These bumps make the relationship seems more realistic. How would you and your significant other get along if you didn't recognize their face? How scary is that. Taylor is smart and has to use other senses and visual cues to remember who people are. She is a strong character and the perfect fit for the guy that can remember everyone's face he's ever seen.

The only part of the book that I hesitated to read (but did anyway) was the epilogue since it really is just a teaser to the next book in the series, which means you have to PATIENTLY wait for the next book to be published!

This story was very interesting because the heroine has prosopagnosia or face blindness. She was born with it and basically, she can't recall people's faces, not even of people she has already met. Her memory is good and she can remember what a person is wearing but just not what their face looks like. She is amazing and resilient considering she was bullied and misunderstood for most of her life. Her own mother left her at the age of two. Eagle has the opposite problem if you could call it that. He remembers every face of every person he ever met as well as their names. He is amazing in his own right and his ability is how he got his nickname. I love when authors teach us new things. I mean I had never ever heard of prosopagnosia and I found myself wanting to learn more about it.

The story kept me glued to the pages and the more we learn about the bosses of Silverston Towing, the more I admire them. They are good men who rid the world of evil. Taylor accepted what they do without hesitation. Upon hearing the story of how the group was treated by the military and the subsequent beginning of Silverstone Towering, she was supportive of what they did. I liked that about Taylor and Eagle made mistakes. He is only human and while an alpha male he isn't over the top about it. Reading about what Taylor went through and the struggles she has to merely exist in a world that we take for granted is amazing. I can't imagine living with face blindness but in my opinion, Ms. Stroker did a good job of bringing to life the difficulties that people with prosopagnosia have. I really liked this book and the fact that Ms. Stoker shed light on prosopagnosia. Learning something while being entertained is a wonderful thing.

I am truly confused as to why this book has such high reviews. I find it to be boring and frankly.. annoying.
1. I think the face blindness was actually a very great concept but I truly found it to be overdone. Not being able to connect with people? Blind people can’t see faces AND YET they have relationships and connect just well. I didn’t understand the “I couldn’t connect with my mother so she left me” but because literally you do not have to see a face to know that’s your mother. Also with the lovers, waking up and being frightened of a stranger in your bed. Again... she didn’t have a problem with her memory. There was nothing that would remind her that her boyfriend stayed the night? Not his scent? His voice? ALSO not having friends as a child... again I find this to be overdone. Kids do not care. If she explained to her childhood or even school good friends that she needs them to say who they are whenever they approach her then children will do it. I am shocked she didn’t have at least one friend from childhood. Again I find the writing on her disability to be overdone and lazy. The fact that she made it to adulthood is staggering. Not being able to adapt in anyway apparently. She didn’t recognize voices or smells, like very very poorly done.

2. I also found her character and eagles to both be incredibly boring. The most interesting bits contained the serial killer. Their love story didn’t interest me, their sex was subpar. I rolled my eyes a lot while reading this just trying to finish so I can be ready for the next book. But if the third book is as bad as the first two ima set this author aside for a while. This series seems VERY quickly written and therefore not laid out well like other books by this author.

3.The book was lazily written with a lot of “two weeks later”, *a week has past since...*, *8 days ago*. I hate a book where you can’t feel time passing but have to be told because it’s not written well.

Ten amazing stars for Taylor & Eagle! I have been champing at the bit for this story since it was but a glimmer! The whole premise of Taylor's facial blindness and Eagle's photographic memory for names & faces was super intriguing. And the story was everything I'd hoped & anticipated.

I love the way they connected at the grocery store. Their banter & friendship was so much fun to read! And the way everyone at Silverstone Towing embraced her, giving Taylor the friends & family she'd been missing, was wonderful. Seeing more of Skylar was great, too!!

The suspense portion of the story had me on the edge of my seat & the twists & turns there kept me wondering exactly how that would work out. And, as always, the tease for Smoke's story has me wanting to dive right in...

Taylor & Eagle are sweet, fun, steamy goodness!!!

Imagine spending your whole life being faced by strangers, every single day not knowing or recognising any face. How horrible to not just have to live like that but have not one person care enough to make some effort in finding ways around this to give you some comfort. For Taylor this was her life until Eagle and his friends, they made the effort, found ways to let her know who they were every single time she saw them. Gave her friends and family, something she had never had. Eagle gave her love and support, understanding, comfort and safety. And she gave him the same. This book was a story in a story in many ways, it gave insight into something that most people would have no concept of understanding, tolerating or even sympathy for. Then you have a serial killer, a stalker praying on women, who then targets one who has no way of recognition from one time to the next . I found it unsettling, scary and heartbreaking. But I also found it uplifting, enlightening and it even made me smile in places. The suspense and worry of something you knew was coming but prayed Eagle and the guys would be home when needed and save her before things got to far had me on edge. I hope other readers really think about this, take it to heart and feel the depth of problems anyone suffering from this are facing, day in, day out. Maybe not scoff or tease in future if they meet someone even with minor issues like this. For me it's names, it takes a long time for me to remember a person's name, sounds simple but it can cause problems and frustration. I know this is fiction and a great story but it does contain a deeper message. Loved it. Started 15/6/21 Finished 18/6/21 're read 10/6/23

If you are looking for an ex-military, slight age gap with a very interesting and intriguing female main character… then this book is for you.

I loved how Eagle is so sweet and caring for her, he just melted me. I found Taylor immensely interesting and likable. She has prosopagnosia, a rare condition that renders her unable to remember faces. Because of her condition she is targeted by a serial killer intent on playing with her.

It was a fun read if a little Hallmark movie of the week for my dark tastes.

Another great Silverstone book and guy. I've never heard of Taylor's medical issue, and it just breaks my heart for all she went through in life until she meets Eagle. Nasty bad guy who gets what's coming to him.

Great preview chapter for the next book, but why does Ms.Stoker love to leave the heroine in a hole, a cave, a jungle with bad guys for who knows how long until help comes?

Kellan “Eagle” Trowbridge pulls into the grocery store parking lot that is full of cop cars and a young woman who looks very uncomfortable. It turns out that she was there when there was an altercation and the police question her about whether she witnessed anything. The problem is that she suffers from a condition that I have never heard of before: prosopagnosia or face blindness. This is a condition where she does not recognize faces. She is uncomfortable because as usual she is looked at funny by others, including the cops. She cannot recognize faces and Eagle cannot forget a face. So he is intrigued by this woman and wants to get to know her more.

Taylor Cardin is used to being on her own and feeling left out and ignored. She is unsure of Eagle and the fact that he accepts her condition and seems to be interested in her. Eagle is determined to prove to Taylor that she is perfect for him and that his friends also accept her. While Eagle and Taylor are getting to know each other there is a stalker/serial killer who has been obsessed with her. Once Eagle finally realizes that Taylor is it for him he will do whatever he has to do to keep Taylor safe.

Eagle and Taylor

This is the second book in the Silverstone Series and it is fantastic. It features Kellan “Eagle” Trowbridge. Eagle remembers everyone he has ever met or seen a picture of. His ability has helped his team too many times to count. When he meets Taylor Cardin at the grocery store she makes a definite impression. She has witnessed a violent altercation but can’t identify either participants. Taylor has prosopagnosia, better known as face blindness, and can’t recognize facial features. After she helps Eagle with the dreaded job of shopping for the Silverstone crew, these two strike up a strong friendship, something Taylor has never experienced. There’s only one problem. A serial killer also witnessed the same crime and overheard the police talking about Taylor’s problem and he has decided she is his new perfect victim. He starts stalking her and she has no idea. This is a very suspenseful read with action, romance, friendship and love. I’m loving this series!

'He didn't like to see anyone look so......alone'

Ah! These Silverstone guys kill me! They are amazing, Alpha guys who are also protective, considerate, humble, committed and so unsure of their own worth outside of the job....awesome!
I love the fact that although Eagle and Taylor have opposite abilities it doesn't stop them being perfect for each other, Eagle doesn't look at Taylor's disability as a disability, he is understanding without being condescending, aware when others are oblivious and encouraging always...how can you possibly resist that!
I love the Silverstone crew, is it too much to hope that we may get a Silverstone spinoff (or continuation!) for their amazing staff members too...especially everyones favourite chef!
I read this on Kindle Unlimited and I am already looking forward to book three in July.

Eagle & Taylor

Trusting Taylor is the second book in the Silverstone series by Susan Stoker. Eagle meets Taylor outside a grocery store. There had been an incident where two drivers get violent over a parking spot. Taylor is an eye witness but the police don’t value her report as she admits she would not be able to recognise them in a line-up. Eagle and Taylor have opposite abilities. Eagle is a ‘super recogniser’. Once he sees a photo or meets someone he can easily remember face and name. Taylor can not recognise even close friends or family. Susan Stoker has given her readers an interesting plot. What I liked was how the Silverstone group accepted and made Taylor feel comfortable to socialise with them. Recommend this book and the series.

Solid read-and-listen and a good book…

I’ve been a little down on Susan Stoker lately, so this book was a pleasant surprise.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Trusting Taylor by Susan Stoker

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Silverstone character series. Book 2.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book and audio on Kindle. Free to read and listen.

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Military romance

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Alpha man, opposites attract, suspense

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Eagle can recognize anyone he’s even seen twice. Taylor has face blindness. The two make an improbable pair, but fall for one another nonetheless. But when a serial killer targets Taylor and uses her disability to his advantage, the pair have an uphill battle.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Stoker’s books have gotten a little repetitive for me, but this one was a breathe of fresh air. Short and to the point, but with the added element of Taylor’s disability… it felt like something I hadn’t read before, which was nice.

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Another awesome book from Susan Stoker. Trusting Taylor is the second book in the Silverstone book and is a great addition to the series. It introduces a disability that I had never heard of, it gives the reader a lot of food for thought on the difficulties involved with living with that particular issue. Thank you for another superb read.

Crash into love

Who would think meeting someone as a witness to a assault could turn into such an amazing relationship of 2 complete opposite memory issues. The intense drama and fear of what could have happened was so intense. I loved everything about this story!

Trusting Taylor is book 2 in the Silverstone series by Susan Stroker and was borrowed from Kindle Unlimited. 4.5 stars

Taylor has a condition where she can’t recognize faces which makes her life very hard. After witnessing an incident she can’t help the police because she can’t recognize their faces. Eagle on the other hand can recognize faces with just one glance.

Suspenseful, friendship, friends, freedom, stalker and so much more…

I am in love!

Taylor is a witness to a car crash, but the police dismiss her because of her prosopagnosia or face blindness. Eagle saw her and went to talk to her. She intrigued him.

Smart and intelligent, Taylor helps Eagle shop for the Silverstone Towing employees. They become friends after days of talking to each other on the phone.

Eagle wants to tell her about what he really does for Silverstone, but he fears her reaction.

The two of them are getting closer and a serial killer has his eyes on Taylor. He wants to mess with her first because of her prosopagnosia, then kills her.

I love the relationship they have.

I loved how it shows that there are still good people in this world who won't dismiss you no matter what disability you have, who would do anything to make others feel comfortable.

What I love about Susan's books is that you get to see people like Taylor find love and learn about their conditions. It makes you understand people.

Don't judge people no matter what.

I LOVE her books.

I just can’t...

There are so many holes in this story that it was a total DNF, even after reading 80% of the story. In the category of too stupid to live...Taylor Cardin. “Hey...someone’s stalking me, but I just want to be alone..” And, even worse, her supposed Special Forces boyfriend thinks it’s a good a idea to go on a lonely drive. Alone. Super smart. And, hey, you almost just got killed, but let’s throw a party!! Since you love social situations so much!! I mean, Taylor is basically as interesting as a potted plant. What Eagle sees in her, I have no idea.

I'm usually a reader of MM romance, but I gave this MF romance a try because I'm participating in the Amazon Spring Reading Challenge and there weren't any MM books on the 2021 Best of list that I hadn't read. The book started out on a rather low note for me, as the FMC Taylor had just witnessed a knife fight. She was sitting to the side rather overwhelmed and the MMC Eagle, who had nothing to do with the scene, inserted himself to get involved and apparently rescue her from her emotional overload. Although Taylor proved herself strong at various times in the book, many times she was hesitant to assert herself and Eagle often felt the need to protect and rescue her.

Taylor has a condition of facial blindness that makes it impossible for her to recognize even good friends until they identify themselves. That made the story interesting, as Eagle had a condition in which he would never forget the name and face of anyone he's ever met or of which he's seen a picture. For some reason, the way the book was written, Taylor had to depend on clothing, smells, tattoos, or other characteristics to recognize someone. The most obvious way to recognize friends would be through their voices, but that was never mentioned as a possibility in the book. Taylor was stalked by a serial killer who repeatedly approached her.

All in all, the book was somewhat entertaining, but I'm not a fan of the rescued female trope, so it really didn't work for me. If that doesn't bother the reader, they will likely enjoy this book.
