Sometimes the best love stories come in two parts.

When Felix met handsome journalist Max Travers, it was lust at first sight. It was just his luck that he then had to develop a terrible case of feelings and got his heart broken. However, two years later, he’s over all of that. His job is going well, he has good friends, and he doesn’t lack for male company. Which, of course, is when Max has to come bursting back into his life.

Felix Jackson will always be the one who got away to Max. He’s spent two years regretting his actions and hoping for a second chance. When an accident lands him in Felix’s less than tender care, Max is determined to grab this opportunity. The only problem is that Felix is equally determined that he doesn’t.

From bestselling author, Lily Morton comes a story of missed opportunities, second chances, and two very stubborn men.

This is the third book in the Close Proximity series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Oh, Felix, Felix, Felix, you are truly one of a kind.

I adored both Felix and Max from the very start, mainly due to Felix's snark and witty comebacks, and Max's love for the sharp-tongued banter, which kept him challenged and entertained.

From Felix and Max's very first banter-filled meeting, I was pretty sold on them as a couple.
“Can I help you?”

“Just listening to your little book club.”

“Did you want to join? There’s an admission price and you’ll have to learn the password and the group theme song.”

“What’s the theme song?”

“Pink Floyd’s ‘We Don’t Need No Education’.”

“Oh my God,”
Tim hisses in my ear. “That’s your sexy, snarky voice, Felix. You’re flirting with someone, you dirty bitch.”

But sadly, not all couples that were meant to be can easily make a relationship work, so broken down simply, this was a story about not realizing what you have until you stupidly let it go, then fighting with all your might to make things right and get it back.

I loved how both MC's went into their no-strings-attached arrangement with thoughts that neither of them had any desire for something serious and lasting, then that slowly changed for them, even if one of them

My least favorite part of the entire story, however, was how Max had to be That plot point always gripes my ass to no end, so I was less than thrilled to see it used here.

Once true feelings were realized, though, I adored that Max fully brought his A-game when trying to woo a very leery and hurt Felix back into his life, and this time for the long haul.

[Max...]

And even as the walls started reluctantly coming down, again, there was still an air of humor infused into those more serious conversations.
“I’ve never hated you.”

He cocks his head. “Really?”

I sigh. “Well, okay, for a whole week I did actually wish that you’d collapse and man-eating crabs would devour your helpless body slowly and painfully until you died screaming my name and begging for mercy, but that was a very long time ago.”

“Okay, that’s not in the least disturbing.”

I really liked that, because these two characters wouldn't have been true to themselves without that ever-present back and forth -- even during their most difficult conversations.

[Felix...]

The angst in the "After" Felix section of the book was manageable, and there was a decent bit of steam, but it was the humor that really shined for me in the story.

As the blurb states, "Sometimes the best love stories come in two parts." And that's precisely how this story was laid out, with "Before" and "After" Felix sections.

Honestly, I felt as though this story was actually two complete books. One without a happy ending, then a follow-up story with an HEA.

Due to this fact, the single book felt much longer than the reported 274 pages. Not that I was ever bored, but the pacing felt a little slow for me around the middle of the story.

I do have to admit that the "Close Proximity" spinoff series hasn't been my absolute favorite, but this story was my favorite of the first three new stories; although, I still confess to liking Oz's and Milo's books more than even "After Felix".

I'd rate this book at just over 4 stars and recommend it to any fans of Lily's "Mixed Messages" or "Finding Home" books, which ended on a similar feel-good HEA footing.

There’s a lot about this story that I loved. Felix and Max are great as main characters. I adored Felix. I really enjoyed the humor, the snark and the banter between them – it totally worked for me in this one. I loved the London setting, the bookshops and Felix’s boat.

The two parts of the story were done really well. Although there is a time gap between them, the story flows naturally and smoothly. I actually really loved part one. It’s more emotional and I loved seeing how Max and Felix’s relationship evolved.

There were some things that bothered me a bit towards the end. However, they didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the story.

~4.5~

I was hesitant heading in because I don't like stories that include a long separation, but I became so invested in Max and Felix's relationship I couldn't wait to get to the "after" part.

This book is all the good things:

~ age gap
~ snark
~ hot sex
~ Venice
~ boats
~ friends who mean well
~ HEA that will make your face hurt from smiling so hard

I loved Max but didn't blame Felix one bit for walking away when he did. Max's behavior at Ivo and Henry's wedding was deplorable.

Visiting with various MCs from other Lily Morton books was lovely. I like the way their lives entwine.

My one gripe is that I'm apparently not as woke as Felix and could have done with fewer details about Max's sexual exploits. I swear, every man Felix ran into seems to have slept with Max.

I need more British boy goodness now. This author never disappoints!

I decide to go on mm romance binge and it worked out. Looks like my mood was right for these kind of stories.

I liked this one a lot. Felix is an amazing funny character. He had me loling hard all through. Max was equally funny and together they provided me with the entertainment and escape that I needed.

Overall, I had fun with this series.

It feels so good to splash 4 stars here since this series has been a flop for me.

Felix had that "It" that makes a character stand out from the same 'ol same 'ol.
His personality and life-boat-style were captivating and unique.

And Max? *ahem* *squirms*

Could I have one of those, please?

Oh, well...
Max was swoony, and Felix and I loved his grovel technique. 😏
Feel free to drool over now.
You're welcome.

I swear, every time I think I've found my favourite couple, Lily Morton writes me another pair that steal my heart.

Now, Caden and Malachi are never going to lose their place at the top because hey, Lily wrote me a rare breeds farmer and so duh! (see Spring Strings ) but Felix and Max are now very firmly ensconced in second place.

I loved how this book took a different narrative style than most of Lily's others, giving us a very definite book of two halves. The first concerns all the build up to what we know from her other books, was a very painful split for Felix when Max broke his heart.

Here we get to see just how that came about and it was bittersweet to watch them falling in love without either of them being able to seize the moment and admit it.

The second half of the story gives us them back in each other's orbits and, including flashbacks to scenes we've encountered from other perspectives in other stories, it really worked well to introduce the slow build up to them finding their way back to each other.

There's the usual snark you'd expect from Lily, I'd nearly choked to death before the end of page one so thanks for that 😉 but there's also a lot of pain and hurt.

Felix is an absolute delight and Max is nothing like the flighty, irresponsible character we saw in Zeb and Jesse's book Best Man. Instead, he's hiding his hurt away and he's confused about his feelings for his best friend Ivo, who he's always believed he was in love with.

The way this complicated and complex plot was navigated really impresses, there's never a moment where you forget at what point in time you are, the recollections flow seamlessly into the present.

This book had unexpected happy memories for me too as the first motorbike I ever went on was my Uncle Richard's 850cc Norton Commando when I was five-years-old! Sitting on the petrol tank as he slowly rode around the block and sealed my love for two wheels.

Also Waterloo Bridge - he didn't leave her so there! She thought he was dead in the war 🤪😁

***4.0 rating***

“I will never ever let you feel anything but first place in my life again because that’s what you are. You’re fierce and sharp and funny, but underneath, there’s this wonderful softness and a deep loyalty. I know now how much of a privilege it is to have that directed at me, and I promise you I will always protect it. Because I know what it feels like to have been without you, and it was fucking horrible. I missed you every single fucking day.”

I did not read this series in order. I first read Charlie Sunshine because of the trope and after rereading it again recently I was curious about the other characters in the book like Zeb, Jesse, Felix, and Max. The first book of the series was centered around Zeb and Jesse, while it was a sweet read, it did not do much for me. I found the couple boring and well let's just say Patrick (Zeb's ex) was more exciting than the couple. However, while the Best Man was a 3-star read at best, the other two books in the series were thoroughly enjoyable. Whereas Misha and Charlie's story was about best friends falling in love with one another, Max and Felix's story was about a second-chance romance. Their initial attraction toward each other is purely physical and based on sex. You meet both characters in the first book (Zeb and Jesse's story). I had always been curious about Max and Felix because Felix is Misha's cousin and Max is Zeb's step-brother. Felix's reaction to seeing Max after a long time in the first two books leaves the reader wondering what happened between the two. They are clearly former lovers. Felix was not happy to see Max in the first two books and from his reaction toward him, it was obvious that Max had been the one who fucked up the relationship.

In this third book which is their story, we finally find out what happened between the two. The first half of the book takes place two years before the present timeline, Felix and Max meet at a bookstore and like LM mentioned in the blurb, it was lust at first sight. Felix is a sweetheart who is sassy and full of life, sarcasm is his middle name. He has been second-place his whole life and therefore has a tough exterior. He does not trust or let people in easily. Men come and go in his life, well that is until Max came along. You could say he was a game-changer for Felix. But are the feelings mutual? not at first. Their chemistry, in the beginning, was purely sexual but as they get to know each other, it becomes obvious to the reader that this is more than sex with a no-strings-attached situation. Isn't it always?

Max who is slightly older than Felix comes with a set of baggage. We first got to know him in Henry and Ivo's story and the eventful foursome Ivo and Max shared at some point. LM makes it clear to the reader that Max has strong feelings for Ivo and given that he is a journalist who covers conflicts and wars, he has some mental health issues and trauma. All of this makes it evident to the reader that Max is not looking for a relationship or to be tied down to anywhere or anyone. A bit cliched but it works in this story.

In the first half of the book (Before Felix), there is a lot of angst, and at times as a reader, you detest Max and how he treats Felix. You almost hate him. He treated Felix like a convenient hole, even his own step-brother, Zeb wanted to punch him at times. But don't fret dear reader Max does redeem himself and grovel, a lot. LM did a superb job at exploring the second chance romance trope here, even though in the beginning Max is your typical fuckboy you still end up rooting for him to win back Felix.

There is also lots of snark and sarcasm, Felix's sense of humor made this a fun read, despite it being at times angsty.

Overall, a fun series and a great read. Felix and Max are both romantic men who eventually found their way back to one another. A fab read for anyone who enjoys reading about second-chance romance.

**Now Available**
My actual thoughts as I read this series went like this:

While reading book one: "I love Zeb and Jesse so much. There's no way I'll love the next two books in the series as much."
While reading book two: "OMG Charlie and Misha are amazing. I take that back. This is the best book in the series. There's no way the third one will be as good."
While reading this newest book: "I take it back again. THIS is the best book in the series. Felix and Max are everything!"

It went something like that. I loved them all but this was my favorite one. I've said it I don't know how many times but it bears repeating; I love Lily Morton's books with all my heart. She hits all of my sweet spots and is an auto-buy author for me. I don't even need to read the blurbs. If she writes it, I will read it. And I will love it. Maybe that makes me biased. Don't know. Don't care. I love her writing. Her books soothe me and bring me comfort. Don't we all need that right now?

So about Felix and Max. Like the song, I've been wishing and hoping and thinking and praying for their book since they popped up in book one. We find out in that book that there's a history between them and not a good one. Felix is beyond mad at Max but we don't know why. Book two gave us a few more interactions between the two and it's clear that Max is desperate to mend fences and win Felix over again. Felix is having none of that. This book gives us their backstory and guys...it hurt. My heart broke for both of them. It was painful. I knew then that their road to happily ever after would not be easy.

Still, I don't want you to think this book is doom and gloom. Far from it. It was the perfect mix of angst and humor, sweetness and sad, light and dark. I laughed a lot as I do with all of Lily's books. Her snark is unparalleled. Steamy wise, it wasn't a slow burn like most of her books. But with feels, it definitely was. I was emotionally destroyed then beautifully healed. This was a fantastic read and a highly satisfying ending to the series.

"So, I do. I tell him how much I adore him; how sad the years have been without him. I tell him how beautiful his eyes are and about the fullness of his red mouth. I tell him how I turn around a thousand times a day to tell him something and how it still surprises me that he's not there. How it baffles me that someone I knew for so few months could have worked their way into the marrow of my bones, and there will never be any removing of him. I tell him I never want that."

4.5 Stars!

I kind of surprise myself evertime I read a Lily Morton and like it as much as I do.

I generally don't enjoy it when the MCs aren't a couple for most of the book. So it's a testiment to her writing.

It's engaging, it's funny. It just works. I couldn't help but love Max and Felix and want to root for them.

Great addition to the series and probably my favorite so far!

I expected Lily Morton's usual snarky banter and a feel-good love story. Which she delivered of course.
I didn't expect to get all the feels. Nor did I expect the hurt in After Felix and the depth of emotions.
Though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised Felix and Max have been circling each other and having painfully tense conversation during the other books in this series.
It was nice to finally get their story and find out what happened.
It was also quite nostalgic seeing characters from Mixed Messages, Finding Home and Close Proximity series. All the connections. It made me want to go back and re-read them so I can spot the background relationships that will eventually bloom.
Lovely story. Totally worth a read.
Always a win with Lily Morton. ^_^

Mhm… I seem to be the odd one out here because I didn’t fell in love with this book. I even had a rather rough time getting into it at first. I could use a lot of words to explain why that was but I think I leave it at that.

Still, I’m rounding up because the banter between Felix and Max was top notch and I was especially laughing my ass off at their exchange when Felix ran Max over with a car. That was hilarious.

Felix really was a hoot.

“Oh, no. I’m not getting on that,” I say, narrowing my eyes at the motorcycle parked by the kerb.
He grins at me. “It’s a Norton Commando.”
“It could be Daniel Craig’s dick and made of gold. Still doesn’t mean I’m riding it.”

Yeah, I liked a good chunk of it but I didn’t love it. And I certainly wished I’ve read “Risk Taker” first as I intended to do but never did.

This could have been great, but I am just so fucking over randoms coming up to Felix and reminding him or informing him of their carnal knowledge of Max. Okay, we get you know the taste of his dick and the feeling of him inside you, but for the love of gay batman, shut the fuck up.

"I just hope you can get over the fact we used to fuck each other and have fun with other people on occasion." says Ivo.

OH REALLY, IVO? Maybe he can get the fuck over it if Max's past fucks would stop shoving it in his goddamn face.

JFC

It was guy after guy after guy and then people saying "oh, but Max hasn't had anyone in awhile" but then hey look, here's another random one night stand that wants to tell Felix that Max shouted his name as he came inside him. ISN'T THAT SO ROMANTIC? My heart was all aflutter.

I was side eyeing the hell out of these hookups of Max’s. One dude Xavier, which was the one that waxed poetic about Max’s terrific love making skills as he yammered on about Felix, and the guy wanted a “repeat performance” from Max DESPITE the guy being in love with Felix and not shutting up about it even when inside Xavier. WHERE IS YOUR SELF RESPECT, XAV? Then we have that guy and his boyfriend who had a foursome with Max and Ivo who wanted to brag about how much “fun” they had with both of them. WHAT IS WRONG WITH A SIMPLE “Hi, I’m Bob. I know Max from awhile ago. Just wanted to catch up.” WHY DO YOU NEED TO INFORM FELIX, about HOW fun your time with Max and Ivo was? You tactless shit.

It was hard buying into all this talk of love when all that was happening. I love Lily Morton’s writing, especially her talent with witty and humorous banter, but I really did not like this aspect to the story. It was entirely off putting and ultimately affected my enjoyment of the book. Sadly, this was not one of my favorites and that’s unfortunate. I’m thinking I will have to screen her reviews for her future releases just to avoid moments like this. She’s still a must buy, but I am going to have to really pay attention to those more critical reviews that offer spoilers of sorts concerning content like this. I’m never NOT going to recommend her books though, it’s just my own taste that makes me not like this book.

4 Loved-it Stars!! 🤩 😍 This was another lovely story with all the humor and snark that Ms Morton's books are known for..😉 Felix and Max are known to the readers of the Close Proximity Series since they have featured in both of the previous stories. We readers knew that there was some history behind all the sniping and backtalk that they constantly indulged in and we find out exactly what happened in the Before Felix part of the book.
Told only from the perspective of Felix, we see how Max and Felix start off on a "hook-ups only" type of relationship because neither is ready for anything serious. However, in the following months as they spend more time together, Felix starts developing genuine feelings for Max. But to his shock and dismay, his feelings are not reciprocated. 💔Heart-broken and resolved to never let his guard down, especially in front of Max, Felix decides to move on.. (without Max)😢
By the time we get to Max's perspective, he has already realized what a fool he has been in letting Felix go 😱. His attempts to first forget Felix and then move on, fail spectacularly before he realizes that he has to get him back. So, what lengths will he go to, to win Felix back? Will Felix be able to see past his own hurt and learn to love again? Can he trust Max with his heart again? ❤️
Despite the familiar tropes of wit, sass and humor (well-known in LM's books) this book is very unique in it's story-telling. There is plenty of 🔥steam 🔥in the beginning to satisfy someone looking for a sizzling romance, but the emotional content is the true strength of the story. 💘How both Max and Felix own up to their failings and show growth before their eventual HEA makes for a sentimental old-fashioned-second-chance romance that sucks you right in. 😍 Highly recommended to all fans of witty-rom-coms!!👍👍

Okay, so I just said besties to boyfriends is great...but a second chance with sultry and snark is even better!
Felix has a mouth that just won't quit. And Max is desperate for it.
They crashed and burned the first time why would anything be different the second?
Because everything is different. Felix changed the day Max broke his heart. It won't be easy for him to repair the cracks. But what Felix doesn't know, is Max shattered his own heart that fateful day. He hasn't been the same since. And the only thing that will fill his gaps, is Felix.
I loved discovering their first fall. It made their second grab at forever, all that more precious.
I loved them AND reconnecting with the rest of the gang.
I can depend on Lily to deliver a fun-filled sweet, snarky, sexy time...and this is no exception!

Reread Via audiobook:
Joel Leslie: Sir... You are a genius. 5+++ stars

****Highly Snarky Recommendation****

For Fans of #Snark #Britishisms #SecondChanceRomance

Why read this book...

1. The Novelty...
This book is a bit different from Lily's other books. Whereas most of her books are always filled with humor and pretty low angst, this book takes a different, but still magnetic approach. There is an undercurrent of sadness that slowly transforms, but keeps it's mark nontheless. #NewAndImproved

2. The Format..
The book is divided into two parts, Before and After. The blurb pretty much tells you what happens in the beginning, but reading it adds a new layer, because you're expecting the outcome. It's like knowing your future, and you can't do anything about it. #AllTheFeels

3. Felix...
Felix pretty much dethrones whoover your favorite Lily character is. I would bet money on it. His vulnerability, his resilience, his strength and his self worth are just some of the characteristics that will keep him in your heart. #AuthorsPet

4. Max....
Max will probably hurt your heart. There is baggage, and hidden/suppressed feelings and hurt. He has to overcome alot to fix the mistake he did when he and Felix broke up. #RiseUp

5. The Humor....
You can't have a Lily book without humor. She is my Reigning Queen after all. Even with the underlying angstiness of the book, she excels in delivering one of the best funny lines to date. #LaughOutLoud

6. The Relationship...
IMHO, this book has the best character development in Lily's books. The progression of before and after, the way both MCs learn how to trust each other again, their coming together and their submission to their feelings was brilliantly written. #GoldStandard

7. The HEA..
*Le Sigh* . Heartwarming, sweet, funny, loving... the recipe for the perfect HEA, and the perfect ending to a perfect book.

#HappyReading

Loved it! Lily Morton sure knows how to bring the snark and banter which lightens the angst and she did this pure LM this time.

I've been curious about Max and Felix since first meeting them and loved how this one played out.
The before and after worked a treat, and Max played his "win Felix back" card just right. I loved the build up to the crash in part one, that constant push towards their split and the way Felix handled it? Brilliant.

I also loved seeing Max's growth, his realisation of his loss and his determination to put things right, though I could have done with Felix being a bit more clued in to Max's moves.

A classic Lily Morton.
First class banter, lots of chuckles, oozes of feels and two really lovable guys.
Definitely the best in the series so far!

This is what a second chance romance should look and feel like.
Max and Felix have both had their fair share of men by the time they meet, both living happily in the ‘absolutely no commitment’ zone. So, when they click beyond the physical, neither trusts his feelings, even if it’s blatantly clear they are both falling.
The light-hearted, cute banter, the simmering emotions and their gradual opening up to each other are fabulously done!

The same can be said for the hurt and heartache that follows their lengthy (2,5 years!) separation. But the best part for me was definitely the way Max is trying to win Felix back. It’s 100% romantic!

I also loved that Max doesn’t take for granted that Felix is taking him back. And Felix, although sorely tempted, doesn't allow himself to fall into Max's lap again without having a proper think about it.

Really wonderful and one of my top favourite books by Lily Morton!

Max and Felix

Overall 4.25 stars

This book has a Before and After.
I give the Before 5 stars. I loved it. It showed the beginning of Felix's and Max's relationship. It was lovely. What was supposed to be simple & fun turned complicated and emotion filled.

I give the After 3.5 stars. This is after the fallout between the two. The fallout that changed Felix. He wasn't the fun guy as in before. He was spiteful and cruel to be honest. I didn't like that side of him. I understand he was hurt but some of his remarks were uncalled for. Max was actually the sweetheart in the after. You could feel his pain and hope.

We've seen these two pop up in other books and there was alway open hostility, mostly coming from Felix. This book gives you the reason why. Overall it was a good read. I did enjoy Felix very much especially at the beginning had mixed feelings in the middle for him and came back around at the end.

Have to admit I was a bit wary to start this book because after the first books of this series it seemed like Lily Morton began to rely on her success formula of snark and banter while the story itself became more a framework. It was still good but I wondered if it wouldn't be a nicer idea to read one of her older beloved books before I get disappointed.

It still had such doubts while reading the first pages. Sass and sarcasm thrown left and right loosely tethered by hot but casual sex dates that lead into a slow burn … but my trust in the author wasn't ill-founded because that hedonistic, self-centered start was necessary to show the walls Max and Felix erected to protect themselves and maybe it was even necessary to make the later separation believable. However I enjoyed the second part better where we also get Max' voice when he takes every tiny chance to get Felix back. In this part the banter doesn't dominate the story and is therefore again highly enjoyable . It's undoubtedly the best of this series.

After Felix is absolutely marvelous and I loved it. I couldn't put it down until 4AM, because I just had to finish it.

For about the first 40-ish percent, we get the "before" as if we get to understand and see what really went down between these two, because in the first two books in this series, this has been this tension and the knowledge that Max broke Felix's heart somehow.

Max and Felix met almost three years before the start of the "after Felix" section, and it was at a bookstore, of all places, and they fell into bed basically immediately. It was supposed to be "just sex" but of course in a romance between the MC's, it's never "just sex" 😉.

They go on for almost 5 months, and as we only get Felix's POV, it seems like only he is gaining real and deep feelings. There are moments, for sure, with Max that feels like he's definitely showing feelings, but a lot of the time he's distant, and actively works to keep his distance. There is a reason for that, and it is the reason why Max breaks Felix's heart.

But I feel like how everything went down is a matter of timing. I mean, Max certainly screwed up and he seems like the bad guy - and what he did is bad. But even as he was breaking Felix's heart, I didn't hate Max, I felt there was more to it and he didn't just act callously with him either, we got to see that he genuinely cares for Felix, he just needed time to get his head out of his ass.

And then, after it all goes down, Max waits too long to see the truth of things, and then try to get Felix back. He waits three weeks, and then he keeps missing Felix at where he lives, so it's actually 4 weeks. And Felix has seemingly moved on - Felix hasn't, not one bit. But he's hurt and he's angry and he's determined to keep from getting hurt again, so he kinda bulldozes over Max's attempts to tell him how he feels and to try to fix things.

Personally, I felt that that was a good thing. I mean, I hated that they had the chance to fix things so soon after and actually ended up wasting two and a half years not being together, being with other men, etc. Of course I hated that. But...I think it was for the better. Maybe they would have gotten together but Max wouldn't have explained things clearly or Felix wouldn't have truly believed him, and Max would have been in a less healthy place that he would have taken anything, and then they would have fucked it up all over again.

I think these two needed the time, to work through their shit. See, Max was a journalist who was partners with Ivo (from Henry and Ivo's book in the Mixed Messages series) in war zones and all that, and he has trauma from that, and tends to drink a lot. But after what happens with Felix, and finding out he is with someone, and that he apparently can't make him happen, he drowns himself in boos and random men.

For Felix, he has a boyfriend for a year before he just starts dating random men for weeks or maybe only a few months at a time in the year and a half after that. We find out that Max was drinking and sleeping with random men for a year, but then he stops, for a specific reason.

So in the present, that is two and a half years later after their break up, Max has a plan to get Felix back, as he's finally in a the right place to do so. And Felix likes to pretend now more than anything that he hates Max, but it's more that he's afraid to get hurt again more than actual ill feelings towards Max.

But where Felix might not have listened to what others have to say to him - and what Max has to say - before when everything was fresh and the hurt too much, he does now. I mean, Max takes his sweet ass time even letting on what he's trying to do, and takes forever to really talk to Felix, but Felix is more receptive to that than he would have been right after everything happened, I think.

Time heals all wounds, as they say.

In the present we get to these that the banter, the chemistry, the passion has never really left these two and their relationship. They had an instant connection and when Felix starts to lets down his walls, that connections shines through immediately just like before.

These feels like we get the best of both worlds. In the before, they have sex really fast, but in the after, it takes a longgg time for that happen, and it feels like a slow-burn to the reconciliation and it's glorious. I felt that passion all the more when they finally sleep together again.

I loved this book, so much. I loved Max and Felix together. Even when Max may seem like the bad guy, it's actually quite understandable, what he's going through, even though he handles it all poorly and acts badly with Felix. He definitely does deserve Zed cursing him out and more. But he's not a bad person and we can see he doesn't mean to hurt Felix or be cruel - he was just human and he fucked up.

At the heart of this, is a beautiful love story filled with banter, and underneath two pretty vulnerable men, one scared to let someone in and the other scared to let go, until they learn to do those things.

Wonderful wonderful third addition to this series. I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to see what's in store for more series/books from Ms. Morton. There is a character in this we meet briefly who I wonder if they'll be who the next series will focus on first...hmm.

Highly, highly recommend. Two massive thumbs up from me!

Huh.

It’s me. It’s not the book.
It’s the pandemic.
It’s my inability to concentrate.
Yet, these two men—polar opposites—didn’t worm their way into my heart.
I liked them alright, but I wasn’t dying to see their story through to the end.
And that’s as much of a review you’ll get out if me today.

My rec? Read other reviews, because this one ain’t worthy.

Sometimes the best love stories come in two parts.

Felix is not a best looking guy in the world, but to Max, he's the most beautiful in his eyes. With all his snarky words, his posh and smart words, that's the things drew Max to Felix the first time he laid his eyes and ears on him.
It was a hookup deal, because Felix was 'easy' (his words not mine). Then Max became addicted to Felix, he stays longer and longer.
Sometimes he forgot about the 'f**k only' deal, and their problems started there.
Max was a nomad, adventurer, and he's still in love with his long time best friend, Ivo Risk Taker, who's in love with Henry forever.

"“And we’re okay?” he asks. I take a few moments to consider my response. “I don’t think we’re anything,” I say finally. “So, I’m not sure why you’re concerned.” The words feel like ash in my mouth, wrong and dry."

Both Max and Felix avoiding relationship like a plaque, for their own reasons. So, they tried too hard to deny their feeling for each other.
And the first part of their love story ended hurting both of them, and me. Me! It was hurt like a bitch!

"It wasn’t his fault that I fell in love with him. After being in the same situation, I know how fucking difficult it is to be with someone when your heart is elsewhere."

Then two and a half years later, thought they still met here and there, with Max always had boys and Felix always had boyfriends, and me hating Max so freaking much, finally something happened.
Felix had to take care and took part as Max's assistant to pay his fault of giving Max a hand fracture. The reason was hilarious, you need to read it yourself.

Max tried anything to get Felix back to him. From a sneaky planned with Zeb, his stepbrother who's also Felix's boss, to making a trip with the classy The Orient Express, then Venice.
Max trying to romance Felix. Did it work?
Sometimes along the way, they met Ivo and Henry, and Felix needed his closure after all. Then after a little talk with Ivo, he knew what he had to do.
But then, Max did something surprised him...God, these two men!
They're both the epitome of stubbornness! LOL!

“You could divide your time as Before Felix and After Felix.” I pause. “Although that makes me sound a bit like Jesus , and I’m really not good-natured enough to take his role. And I can’t grow a beard to save my life.”"
"“You couldn’t divide my life like that because there is no After Felix for me. This is it. You’ve spoilt me for all other men. My tastes have narrowed to thin men with a mess of hair and a tongue sharper than a knife.”"

But don't worry about the happy ending. Max and Felix were definitely made for each other. And the sacrifices they made for each other was epic! The epilogue was awesome.

After Felix is a complete story that will scramble with your feeling. It's all there. The anger, jealousy, sadness, happiness, the funny, the laugh, the tears, the broken heart, the heartwarming, and confusing between love and hate relationship with Max (especially).
But in the end, all I have was love for them, because after all they had been through, they deserves to be as happy as they can be.
Sigh.
Thanks for the story Lily!

After Felix by Lily Morton is lovely!! It drew me in from their first meeting at the book store to the very ending.

I laughed, I cried, I got frustrated, I swooned. It gave me so many feels; I love when stories can bring forth so many emotions.

Some highlights:

· Dual POVs
· The relationship timeline (you'll see).
· Felix and Max. I love these two to bits.
· STEAM
· Secondary characters. It's so neat to recognize names and start putting things together from other books.
· The end ♥

I have to say this is my favorite of The Close Proximity Series. I love everything about it. Highly recommend it; it's going on my favorite of the year list.

5 Huge Stars

I absolutely adored the story of Felix and Max. I’d give it more stars if I could. From the first book of the series, I couldn’t wait to read this story, and I was very disappointed when Charlie’s book came out first. But I have say, this delightful book was well worth the wait.

This had many elements that I normally hate in a story. It’s written in two parts, the past and then the present. I hate that because I am usually too impatient to get to the present. And then once we get to the present, it’s slooooow burn and takes forever to finally get them back together, even for a kiss. And we see characters from previous series, which normally drives me crazy because what if you haven’t read those books? And more things that I don’t want to spoil that would normally frustrate me.

But I loved every.single.word. I laughed at their banter. I loved seeing their relationship develop the first time. My heart broke along with Felix’s when they broke up. And then my heart was hopeful along with Max’s in the second part. And I just couldn’t stop reading, I wanted to get to their HEA as fast as I could. And now I just want to read the whole story again. So. Many. Feelings.

I actually loved catching up with all the secondary characters. This is officially my favourite Lily Morton series.

I don’t know how my next read is going to live up to that. I am so set up for disappointment, why did you do this to me Lily Morton?

I have enjoyed a lot of Lily Morton's books but I am sad to say I have fallen out of love with her books.

I went into this hoping I would love it but I found myself struggling to remember either Max or Felix, I just about remembered the secondary characters which I have read all their stories.

Too much talking/having sex or in this case shag or shagging (I HATE these terms).

I found Max and Felix boring as well.

This is my opinion ONLY, please read it for yourself. I have struggled with the last few LM releases so I have tried.

This was adorable and had me reading this in almost one hit - as only Lily can do. Felix was a ball of emotions, with vulnerability being at the top. From snarky & sassy but extremely protective. He unexpectedly falls for Max who is right for the sass & sex but just not ready for the heart - until he realizes it’s too late. Seems like both men need to get their timing right Loved it

The author states this can be read as a stand-alone. Ignore that. It can't.

I mean, this is book 3 in a series which should be your first clue. Not to mention you are totally doing yourself a disservice if you are reading this without reading the first two books not to mention the two series that came before it, the Mixed Messages Series and the Finding Home Series. It is a spin-off afterall. Why wouldn't you want it know it all? Answer? You would.

To get the full impact of this story do yourself a favor, read those first.

I remembered. I remembered Felix avoiding Max in the other books and his story was one I was certainly looking forward to. I didn't realize it would pack such an emotional punch though.

This hurt a little. But, as expected, I laughed a whole lot more.

I loved the Before story so very much. I loved how the timing flowed through the other stories, I loved the flashback of the other couples but more than all that, I loved watching Felix and Max fall in love, even if, well, even if that was before.

The After part of the story, while still what I love about this authors writing, I struggled just a bit with. I know it couldn't be easy. I know it had to hurt a bit. I had a feeling, especially with Felix, that I'd be frustrated. It just, well, truthfully I don't really know but something just bugged me while reading. Maybe it was the length of time and all that happened during it. Maybe it was the setup. Maybe it was how long it took. I really don't know. All the interruptions, while cute at first ended up grating on me! I was running out of pages for God's sake! I needed Max to talk to Felix and I needed it sooner rather than later. I hated where Felix's head was through the whole trip.

The expected Happily Ever After though? Perfect.

Another installment that I just couldn't put down and can't wait to get a re-read in via audio.

Lily Morton is one of my favorite authors and I can't see that changing. I love getting her stories and can't wait for more.

Absolutely amazing. I've been curious about Felix and Max's sour relationship ever since I read about them in the previous book. Told in before and after their breakup, their story gives me so much feel. Max really do deserve the get Felix back and we are just waiting for Felix to finally realized that he is the one Max love. I am thoroughly swooned over by the way Max trying win Felix back. All the grand gesture, the romance and the affection. Oh my. Wish this book is longer!
