Dr Keshavrao Baliram Hegdewar, the name does not need any introduction given the magnitude of his selfless contribution to the nation and Sanatan Dharma, in a time when our motherland was bound in the shackles of an atrocious foreign rule.

He was not only the founder of the world’s largest voluntary non political organisation, the Rashtriya Swayemsevak Sangh (RSS) , but also synonymous as an epitome of patriotism, nation building, perseverance and discipline wrt nation and society in some of the most difficult times of the history of India.

Countless myths surrounding him and RSS is convincingly busted in this brief biography of 44 pages, which is based on gists from several biographies on him authored by host of historians.

After working for Congress for several years under Bal Gangadhar Tilakji and Mahatma Gandhi ji, he quit Congress and set up RSS for bringing in unity among Hindus and other nationalists irrespective of faith, to strengthen the nation and prepare them for an ultimate battle to throw away the British Raj. His words inspired millions of youths and soon the Sangh grew to be one of the primary voice of Indians against the foreign rule and unity in Hindu society.

A must read for youths who are curious to know about RSS and for all those who have been thoroughly brainwashed by Congress and Gandhi family since independence, to believe them to be anti nationals.

In fact, it has been Congress who feared popularity of RSS and maligned them, Whereas RSS always supported Congress for the sake of Nation and society.

The best part I liked about Dr Hedgewar was his conviction that women are capable enough to solve their issues on their own, provided they are educated and they develop leadership skills. That’s what instead of inducting women in RSS, he played an instrumental role with Laxmibai Kelkar in founding Rashtra Sevika Samiti (RSS), all Women exclusive voluntary organisation in lines of the other RSS. Unlike what leftists in present times want us to believe, RSS often invited women leaders to address their gatherings so that the RSS men get a different perspective.

However, though it is difficult to believe, if at all, Mohan Bhagwat, the present chief of RSS, gave some sexist remarks on women by referring them to be mere dependants on men and nothing else, he should perhaps read this book and learn from Dr. Hegdewar’s views on women and their capabilities to play leadership roles for nation and society building.

The problem with Indian political discourse is that if you want to know or talk about RSS and Hedgewar, they will jibe you with Sanghi tag or what not. We can't even have civil conversation with anyone. I wanted to read on RSS founder Hedgewar. This is the small biography I came across. It gave me good perspective on his life. This is just a short biography on him. If you are interested, you can go for Dr. Hedgewar by N.H. Palkar.
