With the Shaman Fight now underway, Yoh and his friends board a flight to America with the help of the Patch, the tribe of shamans who officiate the tournament. All entrants must report to the Patch village by the beginning of the Shaman Fight...but just moments before their expected arrival, the Patch make a shocking announcement: they'll need to find the village on their own. The next phase of the Shaman King fight continues as the team encounters Lilirara who decides to explain the origin of the Patch tribe and the connection with Hao.

The story then introduces Lyserg Diethel as he (not a she) decides to harm the team so that he can join them. The logic behind his action made my brain hurt and hindered my enjoyment of the action sequences.

At least it's now been decided that Yoh is the leader of the team and he has hidden powers ready to unlock at a moment's notice.

Yours truly,

The team find themselves in the middle of nowhere in US and have to find their way to the Patch village and they get some more info and we get even more info and things are going to get interesting as the team gears up to fight against Hao so let's see how it goes and then Keep on Reading.

I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.

This kid named Yoh Asakura-kun transferred to my class from lzumo... and it turns out he’s a shaman! It seems shamans can bridge the gap between the spirit world and our world, commune with gods and spirits, and even draw on their strength. He came here to hone his abilities and took the ghost of Amidamaru, a samurai who died 600 years ago, as his spirit companion. Just after Yoh-kun arrived, the Shaman Fight, a knock-down-drag-out tournament that occurs only once every 500 years, began... and he managed to fight his way through the preliminaries and advance to the tournament proper. With the preliminaries over, Yoh-kun and his friends set out for the Shaman Fight, but on the way, they were attacked by a mysterious young man named Hao! Once that was over with, the entrants boarded a Patch jumbo jet headed for the village... but once they hit 38,000, the Patch informed them that their first trial was to reach the village on their own... and flung them out into the Open skies!

Ever since Amazon linked up with comiXology, so that readers could get comics, graphic novels and manga on their kindles, I have been meaning to check out what they had. Under Amazon Prime Reading you get a number of titles for free and this comiXology original is one such series.

The epic saga continues with the gang in serious peril, falling from the skies above the American desert; the latest test of their Shamanic powers by the Patch Tribe. Can they survive the drop and then find their way to the Patch Tribe settlement?

Easy to read and engaging, I enjoyed this and it felt just like reading a paperback manga, even on Kindle, as you have to click through the book backwards. A nice little touch. Another solid 4* and onto the next volume!

Deeper into the development of the main plot, concerning Hao as the eventual "final boss." Secrets are teased concerning the Patch tribe, though they are just as soon shot down by building on Hao's mystique ("the Patch are the devil" becoming just "Hao was the devil and was exiled from the Patch"). The volume ends with the name-drop of "Asakura Hao," finalizing the connection many characters have intuited between Yoh and Hao himself.

We get a new main cast member in Lyserg. He shows some skill with his dousing wire... but he gets his ass kicked easily by Yoh who proves a point about friendship, &c. Lyserg's skill, despite his inferior Furyoku level, suggests a new parallel to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: the creative application of one's primary techniques to do interesting things other than just swinging a weapon around. The "Big Ben" cat's cradle thing looks neat, but we don't see it do anything because, again, Yoh one-shots Lyserg. Most certainly the fastest resolution for an "enemy turned ally" subplot in this manga. Even Horohoro's plot took up roughly a whole tankoubon of manga chapters!

As Yoh and his friends begin their search for the Patch village, and Anna learns the past of Hao and the Asakura, a meeting with the son of a detective reveals bloody intentions behind even the kindest smile! Takei continues the epic journey towards the Shaman fight in this entry to the "Shaman King" series. Will Yoh and co. be able to tell friend and foe apart?

I feel like Hiroyuki Takei was suddenly gifted a contract for 10 more volumes and thought, "great, how do I extend this story?" It feels like stuff is happening in this story arc that changes what came before, and I don't think Takei laid the groundwork for these twists.

I do like the twists. The story needed to build to something bigger, and it's taking that on.

What's the logic behind kicking someone's butt to make them an ally?

I don't like how this volume feels like a boys' club. There really aren't female characters to become attached to in this book. Lilirara's magic seems to directly contradict the approximately 8 types of shaman magic established in the first or second volume, which is fine, but makes me question the reliability of everyone's knowledge. Also...she was such a...non-Bechdel-test character. A puppet of the plot. And I doubt an Indigenous American would have laughed at the idea of preserving a dwindling wild space.

If I had to use one single word to describe the series, I would say “lighthearted”. There is intensity to the dilemmas and there is character development, but the attitude of Yoh screams from the pages of the series scream out to the readers and fan base and is indeed infectious! Shaman King volume 10 kicks off bringing the gang to the United State of America! I like the little nods like Historic Route 66 in this book but will also state I wish they kept dates out of the pages of the book to create a more timeless feel to the series. We learn about American Indian Shaman, which is a cool addition to the world. We learn of the tragedy within this of the Shaman Fight that occurred 500 years ago! We learn more about the history of The Patch and some other interesting tidbits! Solid volume and another entertaining volume.

Love that we are meeting more shamans and the stake are getting serious but it felt like a portion of the story was just a bridge we could have skipped.
Big bad entrance.
The Tournament is here and I just remembered that I love te design of Lyserg and the vampire guy.
Excited to continue this series.

The next round of the Shaman Fight gets underway, as we get deeper into the main plot and flesh out the mysterious new character of Hao. This is done through the introduction of two new characters, who are interesting in their own rights, yet come off as plot devices mainly. Another interesting chapter which shows the strengths of our characters, even if it's one of the weaker volumes.

You know, it's crazy.
It's the 10th volume and there's still characters that I love still to appear.
Road trip shenanigans, a bit more of Hao's backstory drops and Lyserg.
Not my favourite but, ok.
Overall, things going smoothly.
Also, first time Yoh's dark side appearing.
It never stays, but it's still great when it appears.

More interesting characters introduced in this volume, Lilirara, Hao, Lyserg, and a mystery behind the Asakura family is about to be revealed! It had some nice action too. Things are getting pretty serious and I can't wait to continue the story!

Hmmm...a new twist. I do miss Manta, but the rest of the characters have their own charm and energy. These are so fun to read.

Overall solid volume, we have some mystery behind our main villain and then meet some new characters. Also the violence towards the beginning was crazy.

So freaking good! I would say that having watched the anime beforehand isn't a bad thing here, as it helps the charcaters move in a more fluid way in my head with each page.
