A job in his old hometown ends halfway around the world in a blaze of gunfire… It was meant to be a simple job but ended in a violent ambush and betrayal. Unwilling to let it be, Kane swore revenge against those responsible and the terrorist they helped into the country.
The trail led him halfway around the world trying to achieve his objective, and when he’d finished, the Reaper had collected his payment…
Again the bad guys find out that wherever Reaper shows up death and destruction follow.. Kane is sent on a mission to find the truth behind the killing of the sheriff in the county where he was brought up,and finds out the major players in a drug running gang that is using the town as a base of operations. Kane takes the gang on and puts an end to their drug running with the usual high body count.
Kane returns to his hometown to take the place of the sheriff who was recently murdered. It is no surprise that hew team of officers and staff are interesting characters. And he meets old friends, many of whom don't want him there.
But this is not an ordinary town as mysterious deaths seem to be occurring in addition to that of the sheriff. Kane is the man who can solve them. But the plot is involved with town members, a Chicago dope gang, and terrorists.
Jump on in and read an enjoyable Kane novel by Brent Towns.
Pick up this book and you'll not stop until you're done-its that good. No wondering what is going to happen next but you had better hold on for dear life because the twists will have you grabbing for something to hold onto. This episode takes us on a journey with the Reaper sans his team as he sets to make right the deaths of friends and none fiends who lost their lives because of one of the oldest vices known to mankind-drugs-and the usual accompanying criminal activities.
Darkness Upon Us," the third installment in Brent Town's Fear The Reaper series, brings special operative John Kane, also known as Reaper, back to his hometown in an undercover role as the Sheriff. The narrative starts with Kane delving into the mysterious death of his predecessor, revealing a web of murders and disappearances linked to the town's mayor and his illicit dealings. The story takes an unexpected turn in its second part, transforming from a small-town crime investigation into a globe-trotting espionage thriller.
While the initial investigation promises a gripping tale filled with shocking twists and turns, the shift to a broader international scope feels somewhat out of place for the book. The transition from a localized mystery to a global espionage plot may leave readers longing for the grounded intensity.
Despite this, "Darkness Upon Us" is an enjoyable read, showcasing Town's talent for weaving intricate plots and maintaining a sense of suspense. However, the departure from the series' roots may not resonate as strongly with fans who appreciated the more focused and intimate narratives of the previous entries. While not reaching the same heights as its predecessors, the book still offers a decent dose of action and intrigue, making it a worthwhile addition to the Fear The Reaper series, albeit with a different flavor.
One of my favourite Kane novels so far. The Reaper is asked to get back to his home town as the acting sheriff after the previous one is murdered. There he meets old friends and makes new enemies. Soon the body count rises and he stumbles upon drug trafficking and terrorists brought into the US. A real page turner.
It was an interesting read, but there was a lot of it that was unbelievable. The fact that Kane was in a position to be killed so many times and yet people passed and let him live. Then had sex after they wanted him dead made no sense. Not one of Brent’s best.
Kane is a great character, and I appreciate the author is pushing out a lot of novels per year. But the wild swings of this one really take the reader out of the story. One minute It’s an episode of Bonanza, the next it’s honorable mafiosi .
Great and gripping story line. Believable characters and great detail on locations and weapons. One constructive criticism is there are some grammatical and spelling errors which a careful edit would have caught. Really enjoy the Reaper series. Keep up the good work. Bruce Howitt
Really has non stop action .I think I’ve read all his books and loved them all .However I am going to check since I don’t want to miss great action and super prices...
Constant action. Great storyline. Reaper is a one man art! I enjoyed this book always a great escape for me. Looking forward to more books by this author.
The book started out with a completely different perspective and I was wondering about the timeline. But the story just kept getting better and better! Great book!
