Everything changes, when he's forced to expose his secret.
Asher Morestead lives a double life protecting his secret. His life was lonely and uncomplicated until the scent of a beautiful brunette leaves him weak and dizzy. No one told this wolf his fated mate was out there.
Fate has chosen her, she just doesn't know it yet.
Gwen Taylor enjoys working at Woods Bistro and forging her own path in life, veering away from her father's. Her favourite part of the day is when the handsome veterinarian walks in, whose rough voice and deep eyes make her heart race and her body quake.
After being saved by a white wolf, Gwen can't stop thinking about those familiar blue eyes.
Now seeing wolves is a normal occurrence, but Gwen's being watched, and her growing attraction to Asher only serves to confuse her.
With his animal need for Gwen rising, and the number of wolves showing up, he may not be able to control himself. Asher needs to claim Gwen as his mate without running her off - or she might run straight into the hands of her stalker, or into dangerous paws.
Looking at a crossroads, Sarah chose to write. With a deep love of anything romance, it was natural that romance stories flowed into her journal. She gets hilariously excited when new stories and characters pop in her head and can't wait to write them out whether in the sub-genres of romantic suspense or paranormal romance. She hopes her readers enjoy her stories as much as she enjoys writing them.
Loved this first book in this series. I couldn't put it down. The story will hold your attention, the characters fit well together and have amazing chemistry. i can't wait for the next book. This is a new author for me and I will be looking out for more to read.
The characters are silly and irrational. But it’s a shifter romance so I’m willing to suspend disbelief. What I’m not okay with is the SA. Apparently the only way the push our leading lady into the hero’s arms is to have him save her from SA? Sloppy writing, needlessly triggering for people, just no. No.
It felt YA with super good characters so the steamy scenes didn't quite fit. The kind H is a good man, a loner with his family living close by. The heroine was sweet, the wolves were nice. It's all so 'nice', too nice for me.
Veterinarian Asher Morestead thought he had adjusted to his dual life as a human and a wolf until the scent of the new barista at Woods Bistro, the local coffee shop, makes him stagger. Instincts tell him Gwen is his mate and he wants to explore what that means with her. Only the timeline escalates when he finds her being attacked. Gwen is fiercely drawn to a regular at the café and oddly at peace when a white wolf saves her from assault. She refuses to back Julian’s story and put the animal at risk. Quickly Asher reveals his truth complicating her plans for the future. * * * * *-------------* * * * *-------------* * * * * I appreciate that this ‘fated mate’ romance has some original mythology. It introduces pairs, strange winds which make shifters, magic, and expectations for future generations and this is only the debut novel for the series. The concepts are interesting but I struggled with the execution. The exposition dumps don’t always blend well into the prose and some stories are repeated multiple times without adding depth. Additionally, there are some technical flaws and limited development giving some adolescent vibes. The characters are likable enough and the animals are presented as a kind family. I like that Asher wants to tell Gwen what to do but accepts she is her own person and makes her own choices. Still because both feel the bond, the timeline is quick and they set aside some rational concerns. The side characters have the same erratic issues without any supernatural influence. The conservation team also just disappears mid-story despite human attacks. There is no police presence despite Julian’s multiple harassments and the parents tend to fight against their children rather than help them even when that goes against their prior characterizations. There is adult content but the emotions and concerns seem shallow. The resolution is not quite satisfying and I was going slower than my normal reading speed.

Liked the differences among the new shifter story. Their origins and how they came to be a shifter and the mysteries behind the wind and the selections. And how they came to be is all cool and intriguing and different from most other shifter PNR stories. I loved Asher. He is adorable and protective but still very alpha and hot. His profession is awesome and loved that he is so connected to helping animals wild or not. Gwen is cool and I liked that she was striking out on her own to figure out what she wanted in life. You could tell from early ok that her king time friend was going to be a problem because he wanted things that weren’t there. She didn’t have feelings for her friend like that and he just wouldn’t get that through his head. Loved how romantic and steamy they could go from one minute to the next to fierce and protective. Liked ashers relationship with Kai. Makes you want to be one with nature and animals.
It was A LOT of lore and information. Also the big ole danger part of the plot was over just over halfway through, which was massively disappointing and a little anticlimactic. And the rest from that point was just filler... I mean the ‘danger’ wasn’t even that big of a deal and was treated more like a nuisance by the characters until it was actually hazardous to health and then it was just over. A little too easily.
And then there was a weird tension between the parents that was there one moment then NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN.
Not to mention the dude was never charged for assaulting Gwen. I mean where there EVEN POLICE IN THIS APPARENTLY TINY TOWN!!!???
Descent start. Rough early through middle. Descent ending.
The story has some flaws and needs editing. Eventually, I was pulled into the story. But a lot of the early events/choices didn’t make sense to me. Julian’s story was not well developed and just ended a hit too prettily. Idk. It just didn’t fully work. How Gwen and Asher meet is fine but stilted.
Idk. I wanted to really enjoy this, but it needs help. And while I do feel the author caught her stride the last third or so, I won’t be picking up the second one.
Overall, a good shifter romance read. Spice level 3, maybe 4, because of frequency. What made this unique from other shifter romances was that the MMC was alone in his predicament. There was no community of shifters or pack of shifters. He was alone with his paired wolf. I did really enjoy the concept of this and how the world building worked with this concept. However, I missed the sense of community and family that is always present in shifter books. Maybe as a series, the community feel might develop more.
I liked this book. It catches your attention right from the first page and keeps it all the way through out the book. Asher and his mate were perfect for each other. I liked getting to know the other shifters a bit as well. This book has some suspense moments, so much friendship between shifter and pair. Some smoking hot scenes as well. I am looking forward to reading more from Sarah Urquhart as this is my first from her.
This is such a good book. The history of shifters is totally different. The storyline is very interesting. A male wolf shifter meets a human woman. Both are drawn to each other. There is a white wind involved between the two. They move in together after acknowledging the tub they both have. The subplots are also very intetesting.
3.25 stars This is a book I recently picked up for free because I’ve been on a sifter kick lately. This was definitely entertaining and I enjoyed meeting Asher and Gwen. The focus here is on Asher’s shifting, an intrigue element, and the attraction between the two main characters. Character development was slightly limited, but it worked in the context of the story. This is the first in a series read and I am slightly curious about what happens next.
The author wanted to create a scenario where we could imagine how all the other shifter romance books started and I loved every part of it. It slowly but surely makes us understand and even question how much shifter romance books are told. In this story we are encourage to keep reading to find out how it all could have started and how and why the bonds of two people blessed by some entity is the way it is and how strong it is. Honestly 5 stars wouldn’t change anything from it.
A lovely story, and some interesting and novel ideas on shifters. However, the story is in desperate need of an editor — fullstops used where there should have been a comma, leaving incomplete sentence; incorrect spelling, often homonyms; unnecessary apostrophes; and changes in tense need correction.
Despite these, I would be interested to read the other stories in the Wounded Winds series.
Loved this!! I found myself totally engrossed in this book, I felt part of their story. I love all the characters, the bond that is formed between the two main characters is spell binding. Can NOT wait for the next book. Which from her website is coming out this fall!!
Took me a while to get into the writing style and for a bit i didn't think it would happen. But then something clicked and i was thoroughly invested. I loved the fact it was fuel POV and there was enough to keep interest in book two but not leaving a cliff hanger.
The story drew me in from the beginning! I love that it’s a different take on shifters and theirs a lot of mystery around it all. Definitely not high on the spice, but good nonetheless. Will definitely be reading the next book!
This is not a review. this is why I stopped reading. Attempted SA not by the MMC, turns into the MMC roughly "taking her." The author writes "He was too rough. too intense..." Nah no thank you, not for me.
I had a good time with this one. Different take on shifters, not a complete cliffhanger ending, but let you know that there is supposed to be another one coming.
This was a free ebook on my Nook. The magical portion of this book is weak and mysterious. I think the author wanted to keep it a mystery that the main characters will discover as they grow in life, but each book in this series is going to focus on a different couple. It would make more sense to have an understanding of the magic in the first book, so the readers can at least understand it. Now the chemistry between the main characters is absolutely adorable and I really enjoyed the romance portion of the book. While it was fast, this book is magical and it works with the pacing of the story. I really liked the romance portion, which I think is a strength of the author. I gave the book a 3 out of 5 stars because as a collective the story is average, I think if the blurb is interesting to you then read it.
What I liked about this book was the unusual worldbuilding -- although it's mostly your typical "fated mate" story, how the shifters were created isn't routine. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to lift the overall stock story and characters into the truly interesting.
This was a bit of a different take on shifters and how they become one.
Asher became a wolf when he was a child but kept the secret to himself. And basically had a pair on the local wolf pack that became his best friend. Now as an adult, he’s still running with them but also a successful veterinarian.
Who’s whole life changes when he meets Gwen and her scent sets him off and the wind appears again. Now how to convince her she’s his with revealing he’s a wolf. Enter in her friend who wants to be more and his jealousy issues and it makes it hard to hold the wolf back. Especially once this friend starts a wolf hunt for Asher.
Gwen and Asher get their happy ending in this stand-alone book in a series.
I liked that there seemed to be two parts to the mate my bond and Gwen seemed to still have an option to leave after the first part. And I wish there was a bit more about Julian, the friend, and what his motivations were for continuing to go after Gwen when she was very clear about not wanting a relationship, even before Asher was in the picture.
