It's been twenty years in Recon, and the last year has felt like all twenty at once. I'm finally ready for retirement, but it's not the celebratory event I'd thought it would be.
I'm lost, adrift, and not sure what the hell to do. Which is when Cole, a former member of my team, invites me out to Montana to visit him while I figure it out. The ranch where he's living has room for one more, apparently. It's good to have some sort of direction.
The last thing I expected was to meet anyone, much less someone like Lily. But all it took was one meeting, and I was done for, hook, line and sinker. All I want is to love her and keep her safe.
Except you can't keep someone safe when they won't let you. Now Lily's not talking to me, and the danger is growing.
Can I fix what's broken between us in time? Or have I lost her forever?
--- The Broken Falls Ranch series: Book 0.5: Cowboy Heart (Axel and Pris) Book 1.0: His Heart (Jensen and Carissa) Book 2.0: His Redemption (Raif and Taylor) Book 2.5: Cowboy X2 (Caleb, Stryder and Nina) Book 3.0: His Destiny (Colt and Danielle) Book 4.0: His Salvation (Lucas and Hazel) Book 5.0: His Forever (Doc and Lily)
Really liked the storyline. It kept you reading until the end of the book. Doc is ready for retirement. He's feeling everyone of his twenty years. Doc is not sure what to do about his life. Cole, a former member of his team, invites him to Montana to visit him on his ranch so he can figure out what he wants to do. That's where he meets Lily. Lily is the local midwife and she an Doc are getting along really great. Lily is a very strong character and isn't going to take any guff from anyone. Doc is trying to save her grief from a less than wonderful man. He's pushy, entitled and thing just get worse. Will she and Doc finally get their stuff together? Will Lily and Doc take care of the creep together? I received an ARC copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I absolutely LOVED this book! It had me "swooning" for a Cowboy! The story flowed so nicely together and had me wanting even more! It kept me enthralled from page one to the last page, and now let's get more because I am not ready to let these characters go. Great job Laney Powell!
Not Feeling it - Spoilers Included I was happy with this book, until suddenly I wasn't. I haven't read any of the previous stories, but that wasn't an issue at all. For about 75% of the book, things progress as expected. Doc is recently retired from the military, after a lifetime of service, and understandably has scars. Taking his time, this strong man makes his way to see a friend, searching for a way to get past his pain and loss. Doc lands at Broken Falls Ranch, and finds a haven. Almost immediately he meets Lily. Lilly is the local midwife. She kind and loving and headstrong and stubborn and I ended up not really liking her at all. At first, things roll along in a predictable fashion: Man meets woman, they're attracted, they begin dating. I really liked how Lily and Doc connected, how they each shared the pain of losing someone in their care, how they were able to communicate without going into great detail, how simply being with Lily allowed Doc to start healing. But then things take a turn. Lily has attracted the attention of a less than desirable man. One who is pushy, entitled, smarmy, well connected, and escalating. While Lily is handling their encounters, she's not really taking it seriously. Doc understands the type of man she's facing, the danger she could be facing, and takes steps to make it known that Lily has backup. Lily about loses her mind, has a huge argument with Doc about him butting in, undermining her, not allowing her to handle matters. Frankly, this ruined the story for me, and I was hugely disappointed in Lily. Instead of listening to what her boyfriend with massive experience in human behaviors is telling her, instead of being grateful for support and concern, Lily got up on her high horse and sprouted nonsense. Then she kicked Doc out! After days of no contact (childish to not even respond to a text message), she finally relents when Doc basically folds and accepts all the blame. And thus I was disappointed in Doc. So much for the strong, protective man that will protect his woman no matter what. So of course, Lily ends up being kidnapped and almost assaulted JUST LIKE DOC FEARED! Doc discovers the abduction almost immediately, and I was horrified by the rescue attempts. The police were less than useless, and when Doc enlisted help, all they did was go to the man's family farm and begin searching half heartedly. And his family didn't seem to take it seriously AT ALL. Lily does save herself, but by that point, I almost didn't care. The book ends when Doc finds Lily at the police station. There is an epilogue that goes into details of how the assault was handled, but once again, I really didn't care by that point. All in all, I found so much unbelievable: I.E. a croquet mallet in a random isolated cabin that Lily uses to bash in the head of her attacker after he's already down having been maced three times. The plot twist came out of nowhere, with no basis, 3/4ths of the way through the story and altered the tone immensely. I loved the beginning, which is why it still gets 3 stars, but I absolutely hated it after Lily goes mental.

Retiring from the marines after twenty years, Doc was not sure what he was going to do with the rest of his life. He was not sure he would even know how to function without someone telling him what to do, but after that mission a year ago, when he lost three men and his best friend got sent home from injuries, he just could not go on in the military. He sent a message to his friend, Colt that he was getting out, and Colt invited Doc to Broken Falls Ranch where he worked. Doc would be welcome there and everyone was treated like family. Doc was not sure, but when he was officially discharged he sent a message to Colt that he would be there in a couple of weeks after he toured the state's first. His first day at the ranch he met the area mid-wife, Lily. They had an instant attraction to each other the moment they were introduced, and Doc wasted no time before he asked Lily out on a date the next time he saw her a lone. Lily was the perfect woman to help Doc deal with some of his problems from his past as she had lost patients and she had to learn to deal with the loss just like had to deal with the loss of his men. They had that in common, which made them strangely feel very comfortable with each other. They found they could talk about anything, even if Doc was overprotective and took care of things Lily did not want him too. Compromise was difficult for Doc, but his ranch family helped him see the importance and he needed to develop patience giving Lily space occasionally. This was a wonderful story of a group of people coming together becoming a family. They may not be blood but a family none the less. A story well worth the read.

Finding a home and family, in whatever shape that takes
His Forever is the fifth book in the Broken Falls Ranch series and the second one I have read. The story is about Doc and Lily. Doc has decided that it is time for him to retire from the Marines after twenty years in. The last mission went sideways and he lost a couple of men and his best friend was sent home with injuries. So he contacts Colt to let him know he is getting out and is invited to Broken Falls Ranch to stay with Colt, as this is where he lives and works now. Doc decides to do some traveling around the states first and then shows up on Colt's doorstep. Lily is the local midwife. She is beautiful but also tough. When Doc and Lily meet they have an instant attraction to each other. So the next time Doc sees her he asks her out and she accepts. Doc is still dealing with the lose of his men and Lily is able to help him with this, as she has lost patients before. One of the locals, Donnie, also has a thing for Lily but she has turned him down. However, Donnie does not take "no" and instead keeps harassing her. For Doc his possessive side kicks in and he has a little talk with Donnie, telling him to leave Lily alone. But when Lily finds out she is upset as she thinks he has stepped in when he should not have. But this protective ex-Marine will always keep her safe and protected, even if he needs to learn when to make a move and when to let Lily handle things, as she is an independent woman. This is a nicely written story that has heart and feelings. Doc and Lily are wonderful characters that you come to care about, and cheer for them to find their HEA together.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
I was really surprised when this book came on Booksprout as book five, and I realised I’d somehow missed books three and four. The author advises that this can be read as a stand-alone. So having read the backdrop books and I knew the general players I decided to grab this and not worry that I’d be missing out on integral and essential plot lines. This can indeed be read as a one-off story, but characters that I’d not met were involved, and you do find out their fate and happy ever afters without having read all of the books. So, I do wish I’d managed to read them all, but it didn’t ruin this book in particular. When I first started reading it, it all felt a bit regurgitated from the books I had read. A military guy finds himself at a loose end after leaving service and heads to Paulson, Montana. I suppose that this is the nature of the series, but I did feel, to begin with, that I was reading nothing new. This doesn’t last long as the main characters, and the storylines are unique. We have a lot of drama, especially where Lily is concerned. I did find her neurosis a little bit over the top and drama for the sake of drama, but I suppose we couldn’t have them having the perfect relationship from the beginning of the book otherwise that would have been very dull. This is a fast-paced story, and you could really feel the chemistry between Doc and Lily. I really liked them as a couple. So, overall a great addition to the series and it has made me want to read books three and four sooner rather than later.

Doc has just gotten out of the marines after 20 years of service. He’s not sure what he will do or where to go. When his friend Colt, invites him to Montana and the Broken Falls Ranch, he decides “why not” at least for a short time and to reconnect with his friend. When he gets there, he is welcomed by all and put to work as a ranch hand. He meets Lily, the local midwife and is instantly attracted to her and she him. When a man, who she has turned down several times for a date keeps harassing her, Doc steps in. I was disappointed at Lily’s reaction when Colt told her he talked to Donnie and told him to leave her alone. I think she overreacted completely. He was just looking out for her and Donnie was a loose cannon which is proven later in the story. A good storyline and lovable characters. I did enjoy the read.

I have loved this entire series where men from the military lost after been injured find a way to have anew life with the help of Freeze Axel and Prin at the Broken Falls Ranch This one is a little different in that Doc has hit retirement and hasn't been medically discharged but that doesn't mean that he is bearing scars from his years of service
He goes to visit a friend Cole(maybe Colt from the fourth book)at the ranch and maybe in this visit he will find the home that is meant for him he also meets Lilly she is the local midwife the connection between them is instant and hot But Lilly has a stalker a wealthy entitled man who thinks she should be his she won't take it seriously but Doc knows what men like him are capable of and knows that it can become dangerous when they don't get what they want Can he keep her safe and will they get a HEA You will have to read to see
This story is just truly sweet. It might even get the waterworks going for a bit - if the reader is thus inclined... But the story is overall quite good and has fine characters that is fun to read about. There is the villain and of course if there is a villain, there also has to be a hero. It is all quite well written and it is in an enjoyable story to read. So fabulous four stars for this quite good story. It sounded like it was the last in this series of Broken Falls Ranch, but who knows? There was description about the next story and I can only say that I look forward to reading that one also.

This book 5 is wonderful! A wonderful book five that completes this series, Broken Falls Ranch by Laney Powell, with a big bow. It’s a fantastic read with the protagonists, Doc and Lily having beautiful chemistry. What stands out is the strong feminine character the author wrote for Lily. It was intriguing as I kept wondering if her personality would remain or acquiesce to the stereotype in order to get a man. But, I’m not revealing if the author did or did not. The drama was enough to test the relationship and move the story forward nicely. Finally, I’m so happy with who was given the last words in the Epilogue. It was perfect. I’m wholeheartedly recommending this book for your reading enjoyment. I also recommend the whole series if you haven’t read the previous four books. Peace.
Lily is the local midwife and enjoys the works she does. Doc isn't sure what to do with his life now that he's out of the military. When a former team mate invites him to visit he jumps at it. When he arrives in Montana everything changes for him for the better. He decides to stay and help work the ranch his friend works on. When he sees Lily he is instantly drawn to her so its not long before he finds her and starts seeing her. Will he see that Lily is what he needs in his life?
This is a great story that will hook you in the first chapter and leave you wanting more with the last one. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Great wrap up to the Broken Falls Ranch series. Frederick “Doc” Doolittle is at loose ends having just retired from the service. When old buddy Colt invites Doc for a visit the timing is perfect. Lily is a fierce little red headed midwife who’s checking up on Pris and baby Finn. Lily is a baby whisperer who wins Doc’s heart at first glance. Both understand loss and bond over their healing. A few missteps by Doc put them at odds but after a few tense hours things come to a head with great things to come. I laughed and cried many times but I especially loved the epilogue. I read this using my KU subscription.
Doc and Lily were great together. These two were perfect for each other; their connection and chemistry were outstanding. There is some drama with some boundaries and a dude is not right in the head but these two can get through anything with their love. Even though Lily is small, she won't take anything laying down (love her!). I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend this book, series, and author.

What a great addition to the "Broken Falls Ranch" series. I have enjoyed all of these stories and this one was really good. I love the characters! Lily and Doc are so perfect for each other and eventually find their happiness. Doc is retiring from the military and not sure what he wants to do now. He makes his way to Montana where his friend has invited him to stay. This is where he meets Lily. She is a midwife with a rough past. These two meet and the sparks fly. This is a fast paced story that is nicely developed and parts sweet with some steam. This a wonderful story.
Book 5 of this series can be read alone, but it does help to read the previous books in the series first as it gives some nice background on each of the characters. Doc and Lily made a really great couple and she doesn't back down, despite being quite tiny herself. Her attitude gave her personality quite a fun character to have in this book. It was a very fun book to read.

I've read several books written by Laney Powell; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

This was sweet and it touches on some hard topics and the things that veterans go through. At times I had a hard time understanding Lily's reasonings for some things and their little spat seemed out of character at first. I am glad they work it out but I thought it was unnecessary and unrealistic for what she went through. I did feel sad in the end seeing this family series end but was glad to see all the other characters and how this became their family.
After Doc retires from the military he heads to Montana with his friend and former military team member. There he meets Lily the town midwife who captures his heart. These two go through a lot in this fast paced story with drama, danger, suspense and an unexpected romance. Overall a good story and I look forward to reading more of the Broken Falls Ranch series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is the 5th book five book in the Broken Falls Ranch series and is the final one by Laney Powell. This is Doc and Lily's story, they have chemistry that is beautiful to read. The characters are very well written and show strength and fortitude. There is enough drama testing the relationship. So will they actually get together?

Final instalment on this little mini series of novellas
Enjoyable low angst. This time Doc finally got out of the military after 20 Years service. Unlike the others he hasn’t a physical injury more weathered by what he’s seen serving his country for so many years.
He again lands at Broken Falls where he meets Lily the towns midwife.
All stories are inter connected but could be read alone. Best read in order is my feeling. In KU
I love that the Heroin can and does take care of herself. She doesn't NEED a man but she WANTS one. The hero is man enough to let her take care of it herself. I very much liked that you went further with the "after" with the crime. I just really enjoyed this book!

A captivating book five in the Broken Falls Ranch series! It is a fast pace, well-developed, engaging, and emotionally deep read with drama, suspense, danger, and kidnapping. The characters are strong; the chemistry between them is instant and off the charts! Definitely recommended!

Doc is finding himself after retiring from the military and along the way he meets Lily the town midwife. What happens next was an unexpected romance read that didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed their steamy chemistry which grew as their heat level heated up. An easy to read storyline with great characters made this newest release a must read.
Doc has had enough of the military and needs to retire. He visits a friend in Montana and is blown away when he meets Lily. The two get along well but are both strong willed and butt heads occasionally. Lots of hurdles to work on for both of them to realize they are better together when not arguing.
