If I’d known my hasty decision was going to have the consequences it did, I would have evaluated it with more diligence. I would have taken the time to properly assess the repercussions of my actions. But when my sister and unborn nephew were killed in an horrific accident, any chances of my grief-riddled brain forming a rational decision was lost. I was hurting too much. Losing Jorgie and Malcolm gutted me. Losing Ava the same week, utterly destroyed me.
For the past five years, I’ve been a ghost, missing, presumed dead, hidden from the people who are seeking my demise. I knew eventually my past would catch up with me. I just never fathomed once it did, it would unravel even more secrets than the ones I've been hiding.
But I'm tired of running and fighting fate. It's time to dive beneath the sheets, where all the best-kept secrets are exposed.
From the author who brought you the Enigma series comes the next question answering installment.
Why is Hugo hiding? Who is after him? And what was that kiss with Izzy really about??

I love writing and reading. They are both my passion. My genre is generally set to new adult and contemporary, with a few twists thrown in.
Hugo has been through so much throughout the years after losing his sister Jorgie and hes nephew Malcolm who were tragically killed after the event happened he had no choice but to make a hard decision letting the only other person he loved go Ava. Hugo let Ava go all those years ago because he thought he was doing the right thing protecting her but there’s stuff he doesn't know what will happen when he's finds out would he of ran if he had knew all these years ago? Will Ava and Hugo be able to accept there past and move on and have a incredible future together or will it tear them apart? With it being five years full of hurt, pain and anger can they get through that too or have they changed to much? I love the enigma series I highly recommend reading the series right from the start so you can get a better understanding of the characters and there backgrounds. Once again this novel was full of emotions love, hurt, passion, suspense and so much more it took me on a one journey I highly enjoyed. I have never been left disappointed when reading one of Shandi's novels I was completely hooked right from the start and continued to be until the very last page. Hugo's and Ava have been through a lot throughout there story it's not easy for them with obstacles, drama but you can only hope that love conquers all. I would absolutely recommended this novel was wonderful. Happy reading!
Five years after Hugo leaves Ava, he finds himself back home. Everything looks the same except everything is different. Ava is recently engaged and has a 4 yr old son. Hugo knows Joel is his son. The instant bond between the two will melt your heart. He came back k to claim Ava and now his son. Ava and Hugo must forgive the past and move forward. The past cannot changed, forgotten edited or erased it can only be accepted. Learn from your actions and move on. They realize that they get a second chance and make the best of it. The full story of Hugo will cause pain, anger, smiles toward a fated love. We get a better understanding of Hugo and his drama and trauma. Twists and surprises to an eventual HEA.
Beneath the Sheets by Shandi Boyes a Huge Huggable five-star read. This is the sixth book In the Enigma series overall, and part two of Hugo’s story. It is a series and if you were to read them out of order then you would get massive plot spoilers. The Enigma of the series does make an appearance, but this is Hugo’s tale and his to tell, it tells us the story of one small decision that lead to huge epic results. One decision means that Hugo may never be the man he is now, he has already been through more than his fair share trouble even before his beloved sister Jorgie and her unborn son Malcom were tragically killed. That tragic event was possibly the straw that broke him. Leading him to the point he made that decision. His decision that led him to not just lose his sister and nephew but his true love Ava as well. Hugo Joel Marshall is a man of action, and a man of honour, he stepped away five years ago as he thought he was doing what was best, but if he knew the real truth would he have ran? Would he have been man enough? This book answers so many questions, but it also ponders so many more. In Hugo’s own words ‘The past cannot be changed, forgotten, edited or erased. It can only be accepted’. Can Hugo and Ava accept the past and move forward to a new future together? Or will their past be too much for them to get over? Five years of hurt and anger can change a person. This series has gone from strength to strength, Shandi Boyes has become an author that I drop everything to read as soon as anything by her drops to my kindle. I can’t wait for the next story to be released Hunter Kane story is about to be revealed, and I can’t wait. He’s been a character we need to know more about and soon I hope we will find what we desire.

This is a well written story, but I didn't enjoy it as much as "Beneath the Secrets" primarily because of all the drama with Isaac and Izzy and the 5 years of Ava and Hugo being apart; never-the-less, it's a descent read with a happy ending.
Five Years Ago, Hugo made a mistake. Little did he know his hasty decision what have the consequences it did. If so he would have taken the time to assess the repercussions of his actions. But with the grief Hugo was feeling due to the horrific accident that killed his sister and unborn nephew all rational decisions flew out the window, he was hurting too much, especially after losing his sister and nephew, he also lost Ava in the same week, utterly destroyed him.
For five years Hugo has been presumed dead, hidden from family & friends and from the people who seek his demise. He knew sat some point his past was going to collide with his present, but he never expected it to reveal secrets even more than he was already hiding. But now tired of running and fighting fate, Hugo wants to dive beneath the sheets and expose all the best kept secrets!
Beneath the Sheets is book 6 in the Enigma series, that can be read as a stand-alone. This is my second book from Shandi Boyes I have read and I can’t wait to dive into another book of her, so that I can be as captivated with that as I was with this.
This book was brilliant from start to finish. The story-line and characters of this book really hooked me and kept me turning page after page, until the end not wanting to put it down afraid I may miss anything.
This book had it all from romance, to friendship, family, happiness, passion, angst, secrets and revelations but most importantly love. It has you laughing, smiling, feeling frustrated because of the choice the characters made whether for good or bad. With two incredible main characters who connection and attraction for one another is utterly undeniable for all to see and for each to feel. This is a brilliant story of second chances, redemption and learning to trust, and build a relationship with lovers and family.
We get to read the characters have hot sexy scenes, romantic scenes, heart pounding moments and heart shattering flash backs of the traumatic events that have plagued Hugo’s life and nightmare for many many years. This book had a great pace, and the characters and their relationships were real and not rushed.
Another great thing with this book is that it was written in dual POV’s. I love reading it from the characters POV’s as we get to really see their thoughts and feeling from them rather than the other person. I also think it helps connect with a character as you get to understand some of their reasons of their actions!
Ava once again has had to overcome, guilt, pain, suffering and heartbreak, all from the loss of her best friend, but even more so when the love of her life disappears for five years, but out of sight out of mind never really works with Ava, Hugo constantly plagues her every thought and still controls her heart, whether alive or dead, Hugo has made a big impact in shaping who Ava had become in her present. She is more determined that never to set her life on the right course following her dreams, even more so for others around her, looking to her. But her past has more ways than ever to creep back in and act as though nothing has changed, yet the biggest change of all has yet to be revealed. Will people stand in the way and fight back, and make it another rough and bumpy road for Ava & Hugo? Or will things finally be settled?
Hugo is still combating his inner demons from his tours in Afghanistan, but now he has even more on his conscience, not being man enough to end the life of the guy who robbed his sister life away, from running away from Ava and allowing five years to pass. But when things finally come to realisation for him he knows he cant run from his past anymore, and returns home to his family, and Ava. Little does he know things have changed. He has changed and with people fighting to get in their way, Hugo will do everything he can to prove that his love for Ava never died and he will do anything to prove he will never leave, and be by her side forever. He becomes stronger when in her presents, she keeps the demons he fights daily away and calms the raging water inside. Little does he know a revelation will cause even more hold over his heart and a chance to prove himself once and for all.
This is a second chance read, that will hook you and grip you from the beginning. I’m so glad that our characters get a HEA, but I hope this isn’t the last we hear from them either. I cannot wait to read what else Shandi Boyes bring to this series, and whether it continues to get better book after book.
Beneath the Sheets: Hugo's Story – Book 2 (Enigma 6) by Shandi Boyes is the second book in this series and the sixth book of the Enigma series. I highly recommend that you read the previous five books in this series in order as each one of these books picks up where the last left off. This story is about love, family and friendship. This story is full of drama and romance that you won't want to miss. I was excited to see that this author has finally given us the rest of Hugo's story. I loved the previous Enigma books and I loved this one too. This author has such ability to create these characters true to life and the connection with each other is awesome. This story has some twists and turns that you won't want to miss and they will keep you engaged until the end. Find out what happens with Hugo in this book!
Five years ago Hugo made a bad choice that he now wishes he would have thought about the consequences better. He didn't realize that the decision he made would have the consequences it did. When a tragic accident takes the lives of his sister and nephew, he lost any rational thinking. Then losing Ava in the same week utterly destroyed him, he was eaten up by loss. For the past five years he has been living as a ghost, missing, hidden from people who are seeking his demise. Knowing that his past would catch up with him, he never expected the secrets it would dig up too. Tired of hiding and the secrets, he decides to take a dive under the sheets where all the best secrets are exposed.
One thing that I have loved the most with this series is that the characters are all strong. The secondary are just as great and strong as the main characters. Ava has always been strong and in this one she gets stronger. She has had her own issues but she is so great for Hugo, they complement each other. The things that Hugo has gone through in present and past makes him who he is today, stronger and more confident. Sometimes I feel that he may have some self confident issues that his life experience has created that he needs to let go. But I love his character and what he has grown into. There is something hidden in every corner of this story and on every page. Find out what happens with these characters, you don't want to miss what happens.
The Enigma series by Shandi Boyes is one of my favorite so to see it continue I am just in heaven with it. I can't wait to see where she goes next with this series. Shandi lives in Queensland, Australia with her husband and their children. She has been an avid reader but recently she has found her love of writing. With each installment of this series, it is mind blowing how lost I can get in these books and this one was no different. I totally lost track of time and couldn't put this book down until the end. It is engaging until the end. It is fast paced and will keep you turning pages until you see the words the end. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see the rest of Hugo's story.
Beneath the Sheets Hugo Story-Book 2 (Enigma #6) Shandi Boyes 5 Stars Beneath the Secrets is the sixth book in Shandi Boyes Enigma Series and book two of Hugo’s story. This book picks up five years after Hugo leaves Ava. Hugo finally gets the one this he has always wanted but he messed up five years ago and now he is determined to do whatever it takes to get it all back. Ava is not going to make it easy for him, Hugo ripped her heart and soul apart and now she is going to protect it so much better than the first time. Can Hugo and Ava move on from the past and start a new future together, or is the pain that Hugo caused too great for Ava to forgive? After five years of Ava, thinking Hugo was dead he shows up while she and the Marshall’s family were cleaning up Christmas dinner. Ava was even more shocked and mad when Hugo naked as the day he was born tries to sleep in Ava’s bed. The net morning Hugo is still asleep on the couch. She decided to teach him a lesson. When Hugo meets her son she cannot lie to Hugo or her son and she defiantly cannot keep Joel from his father. Marvin and Ava have an agreement but when he propose in front of all the people that she needs to make her dental practice a success she is put in a situation she can’t seem to find a way out of. Hugo is in the hospital when a childhood friend and doctor that tried to save his sister Jorgie. The surgeon gives him a dose of reality in the hospital and at a Christmas party. Hugo does not want to hear it but he ends up taking it to heart. He drives all night back to his hometown and hopefully back to the women he loves. In some ways, he hopes Ava is married and has a family, but deep down he wants her to be his wife and start a family with him. When he walks in to his family’s home everyone is shocked and beyond happy to see Hugo alive, everyone but Ava. That night he could not sleep in his childhood bedroom, so he went to Jorgie’s house. Hugo was socked and pleased when he ended up in Ava’s bed. The net morning Ava was making so much noise in the kitchen that he had to get up. Hugo needed and wanted to talk the Ava, but he she walks in the houses with a little boy that looks like him and her, Hugo was madder at himself for leaving 5 years ago. When Isaac calls for Hugo to keep an on Izzy, he does not want to leave Ava and Joel, he promises them he will come back. I gave this book five stars. Shandi Boyes pulls at your heartstrings with this book. You would need to read Beneath the Secrets and I would suggest reading Isaac’s story. This book intertwines with the last book of Isaac’s story. Shandi Boyes can pull you into her story and keep u wanting more. I cannot wait to read the next book.
5 stars! Beneath the Sheets is the sixth book in the Enigma series by Shandi Boyes and is the conclusion to Hugo’s story. These books should definitely be read in order, especially the last two! It is without doubt now that this author is up there with my all-time favourites! I am so, so glad that I have read her books! She has provided me with so many 5 star reads and I have loved every single word that I have read. It’s not often after this many books in a series that I want more – and I do! I want so much more from these characters! I have totally fallen in love with them! I am as completely captivated by this series as I was after finishing book 1. I was so excited to read this book and I couldn’t wait to finally hear the end of Hugo’s story! I have loved him throughout the series even when he was a secondary character and I love him even more now! I should have guessed from the authors previous stories not to expect anything plain sailing in this story and I was right – but what an ending! As always there were some great plot twists that I wasn’t expecting and we get to see even deeper into Hugo’s life (and I still got my dose of Isaac!!) The story filled in a lot of gaps and questions that I had about Hugo and the ending is exactly what I wanted for him! Hugo is just an amazing person! He protects like no other and he is loyal to his friends and family. He has made a few mistakes in the past but he deserved to be happy and it was always going to be Ava that did that for him. I still loved Ava in this story – I can only imagine how some of the things that have happened in the past have affected her and it was clearly that she had and will always love Hugo. He is her person! She was stronger and braver than she thought she was and I really admired her for what she had achieved whist grieving for both her best friend and the love of her life. I am yet again in another book hangover now Hugo’s story is complete but very excited to read more from this author in the future! I know that anything she writes is going to be amazing and this series is definitely one that I will read over and over again! 5 stars for this read and for the series as a whole! I really cannot recommend them enough!
Beneath the Sheets, book 6 in the Enigma series by Shandi Boyes, brings us more of Hugo and Ava. This is bone shaking excitement!!
Hugo made a huge mistake that cost him everything. Stupid, spur of the moments decisions which cannot not be rectified led him down a path he never could have anticipated. Now he wants to make all his wrongs, right.
Beneath the Secrets left me with ao many questions, and Shandi Boyes answers them all in this book, with a big full stop!! There is always dramatic twists and turns in this series, that keep you right on the edge, holding your breath for the next dilemma. It is one heck of a ride reading the Enigma series, and the feeling I experienced is totally addictive. I just want more and more.
The horrifying events which occurred, resulting in the loss of Hugo’s sister and nephew, paved the way for Hugo’s disappearance. Ava had to continue life without him, which just about destroyed her. Just when she turns the corner, and the bumpy road that he has traveled becomes smooth once more, Hugo reappears, totally obliterating any peace she had finally found, and blowing her life into chaos once more.
So many mysteries were solved when I finished Beneath the Sheets. It all came together full circle, and once again I could breathe easy, as all was right in the madness that is Hugo and Ava. I can also say that I loved all the other characters in this series. Isaac really is the epitome of an Enigma. But they all have special roles which intertwine seamlessly, giving readers a wild look into a fast paced, highly erotic and entertaining tale.
Beneath the Sheets was just as big a thrill as Beneath the Secrets. Once again, Shandi Boyes has given me a jaw dropping, breathtaking story, which has only quenched my insatiable thirst for more, a tiny little bit. I am sad that I read this so quickly, but when you cannot put it down, that is the only conclusion.
Beneath the Sheets gets 5 stars from me. I cannot express enough how good the Enigma series or Shandi Boyes is. All readers need to to experience all that is this series for themselves. It will be something unforgettable, I can promise.
Beneath the Sheets: Hugo's Story - Book 2 (Enigma 6) By: Shandi Boyes 5 out of 5 stars
The story Beneath the Sheets: Hugo's Story - Book 2 (Enigma 6) by Shandi Boyes is a contemporary romance book. This is a book that I have been waiting for. To hear the rest of the story about Hugo. His life was turned upside down five years ago. He made a decision that impacted not only his life but also of those who he loved the most. Now Hugo is ready to face the past. What will he find when he does?
When I read a book by this author I always make sure that I start it early in the day as I know that I will not go to sleep without finishing it. Her stories have so much emotion to them and I get caught up with both the story and the characters. I have read the entire Enigma series and rejoiced when Hugo’s story came out. Hugo is such a tortured soul. There are things in his past that he has never gotten over and then when he makes a choice years later it only crushed him further. With his current job, Hugo knows that people depend on him and if he feels that he makes a mistake it haunts him. Hugo is a strong person, he has to be to survive what he has in the past. He would be the type of person I would want if I needed to be protected. I like that this story explains a lot about Hugo and the reasons behind the actions that he has taken. Hugo also finds out secrets that have been hidden from him. What does the future have in store for Hugo?
Love, family, and coming home are the themes that you find throughout this story. The Enigma series is one that I highly suggest reading in order as each story picks up where the last left off and the characters overlap. I love a series where characters return as most of the characters in this series are ones I have grown to love. Read this book to find out where Hugo’s journey to face his past leads him to. This story does include adult language, violence, sensitive subjects, and adult situations. It would be for those 18 years of age or older.
Beneath the Sheets is the sixth book in the Enigma series and and as with Beneath the Secrets it could be read as a standalone if you have not had the chance to read the others. As before I would however recommend that you read them all in order so that you get the background and the whole story.
Hugo is still struggling with his inner demons from his tours in Afghanistan. Now however his conscience is reeling with the death of his sister and his unborn nephew. Before thinking thing through he decides to take matters into his own hands but fails. However this one decision means he has made himself and those he loves a target. After running and hiding for the past five years and leaving the one thing he loves more than life itself behind, he finally come to realisation that he can no longer keep hiding. He can no longer run from his past. Upon returning home soon finds out that things have drastically changed. He has missed more than he could have even guessed. Now he knows he has to fight even harder for the ones he loves, for the love of the woman he should have never let go.
But will his fight be enough? Will he be able to show the one he loves just how much he needs her? Will he do everything he can to prove that his love for Ava never died? Will he be able to prove he will never leave again and be by her side forever? He becomes stronger when in her presents, she keeps the demons he fights daily away and calms the raging water inside. Little does he know a revelation will cause even more hold over his heart and a chance to prove himself once and for all. Will Ava once again be able to forgive the mistakes? Will the two ever find their happily ever after?
This story has it all including friendship and romance, happiness and passion, secrets and lies, heartache and frustration but amongst all that there is love. You will find yourself laughing, yet sad and frustrated with the choices of the characters. At times you want to knock some sense into them but as the story goes, you can’t fight fate.
5 out of 5 stars This book is part 1 of Hugo's story. This is the second book that I have read by Ms. Boyes but the 6th book in the Enigma and I was blown away with Hugo’s and Ava’s heartwarming emotional love story. Even though I haven’t read the first four books in this series yet I highly recommend reading them first. So you get to meet up with the other characters from the other Enigma series and see what they are up to. Five years ago, he made a mistake. If he’d known his hasty decision was going to have the consequences it did, He would have evaluated it with more diligence. He would have taken the time to properly assess the repercussions of his actions. But when his sister and unborn nephew were killed in an horrific accident, any chances of his grief-riddled brain forming a rational decision was lost. He was hurting too much. Losing Jorgie and Malcolm gutted him Losing Ava the same week, utterly destroyed him. For the past five years, he’s been a ghost, missing, presumed dead, hidden from the people who are seeking his demise. He knew eventually his past would catch up with him. He just never fathomed once it did, it would unravel even more secrets than the ones he has been hiding. But he is tired of running and fighting fate. It's time to dive beneath the sheets, where all the best-kept secrets are exposed. Who is Hugo running from? Will they find Hugo? Why did Hugo kiss Izzy? Hugo and Ava are amazing characters that are well written. Like I said earlier I haven’t read the first four books in this series and I am going to but I would like to see Hawk again and find out if he moved on from the tragedy that happened to him. I would also like to see what Izzy and Isaac and if they ever did get married By Tracy
Ok, I was kind of hesitant how Hugo's story would end up after I was slightly disappointed in his first book. I have loved Hugo since we saw him in Isaac and Izzy's books and I'm so glad he got his happy ending. This book really took you through the emotions and the surprises, geesh!
Stop now if you don't want to read spoilers... because I HAVE to talk about them!
I hate that Ava was still with Marvin, who's a very verbally abusive asshole to her. The only reason they're together is so Ava can look good on his arm in front of his family, but there's no love between them. When Hugo comes back to claim Ava, and explain why he was gone and presumed dead for so many years, he has a lot of explaining to do, but he doesn't give up on Ava. He keeps coming around and when they finally have a chance to reconcile, it's beautiful to watch their relationship grow even stronger. It was really great to see Ava grow a back bone in this book too, and she finally stopped letting people walk all over her. She had some major character growth and it was awesome to see. Hugo *sigh* is still my favorite knight in shining armor. He is a protector, an alpha male, but I think I love him so much because of his sense of humor.
I loved everything about this book, and loved that Hugo and Ava got their happily ever after!
Beneath the Sheets by Shandi Boyes is the sixth book in the Enigma Series and the conclusion to Hugo’s story. I don’t recommend reading this book if you haven’t read the first part of Hugo’s story. To truly enjoy this book I really recommend reading the Enigma Series in order. Beneath the Sheets starts five years after Beneath the Secrets ended and Hugo is regretting his decision to leave Ava and his family behind after he is injured protecting his friend Isaac’s girlfriend. He is re-thinking his life and where he wants it to go from here. He misses his family, friends and most of all Ava. He hopes that she has moved on after he chose to leave because he didn’t want to be the cause of anymore of her heartache. Ava has been doing her best to live her life without Hugo in it, but she still holds him close to her heart. She has tried to move on but she is still in the same city, at the same job and she still has the bottle of cologne Hugo left in her bathroom that she still puts on her pillow so that she can still smell him and feel close to him. Ava has done what she needed to do to get through the past five years, she finished school, has her own place, is engaged to Marvin and pretty much has it all together for the first time in a long time. When Hugo returns he throws Ava’s entire world off its axis. Ava has been keeping a secret from Hugo though, and it’s a doozy. Will she let Hugo back into her world? Will Hugo win Ava back or will he disappear into the sunset once again? I couldn’t wait for this part of Hugo’s story to come out and boy was it worth it. While not as action packed as the other books in the Enigma series it brought Hugo’s book to the conclusion he deserved. Now I have to wait for Hunter’s story, here’s to Ms. Boyes writing fast!!
This book totally deserves at least 10 stars!!! Shandi well you are really close to changing my mind on which hero I am in love with in this series. For so long it has been Isaac, I mean I have been infatuated with his character. I cannot stop thinking about him and then I read this book and I am really close to saying that Hugo is the most amazing character in the series. Let me start by saying this is one of the most breathtaking series I have ever read. I feel like that characters are real and wish they were on a TV series so I could see them. Hugo is sexy, strong willed, alluring, mesmerizing, and a major HUNK!!! Hugo is a character to fantasize about because he is just that amazing. Hugo lost his sister and her son 5 years ago and has been having a hard time ever since. If there would have been something to stop it he would have. Hugo has struggled with their deaths ever since and also losing the woman he dreams about at night. Hugo has a great job and awesome boss named, Isaac which has become his best friend and they would do anything to help one another. Hugo never dates, he may have one night stands but never a date and he plans on it staying that way. Ava has been living a life for the last 5 years that she is not totally proud of. Yes, she has an amazing career and she has things of her own but it is not the same. It is not what Ava wants and dreams about nightly. Can Ava have what she really wants? Is it possible to erase the past or will the ghosts haunt her? This series is dear to my heart. I feel at home when I read them and it just makes me feel complete. I had no idea this book was coming out so it was a total surprise to me and I am so happy for that because it made me love Hugo even more than I already did before.

Now I'll sit back and patiently wait for the next one. I can't wait to see what Shandi has in store for us next!!
Shandi Boyes has given us another book boyfriend! Hugo is protective, thoughtful, caring, sexy, strong and so much more. We first meet Hugo in the Enigma series. He is the right hand man to Isaac. Beneath the Sheets is the conclusion to Beneath the Secrets. It is about Hugo and how devastated he is from the choices he felt he had to make in his past. Those choices, of course, didn’t just devastate him but they devastated those he loved as well. His mother and father, his siblings, and Ava. Ava is the love of his life. And everything he does, he does for her. Even when he walked away in book one. What he doesn’t know is that his choices, while made with the purest of heart and good intentions, crushed Ava. He also doesn’t know that Ava is waiting and praying for his return. A return that is a long time coming.
“It shouldn’t matter if it is a week or a year, if they are who your heart desires, that’s all that matters.”
I believe all readers of romance novels are looking for the kind of love Hugo has for Ava. Time doesn’t matter. Distance is no object. Nothing will stop Hugo from finding his happily ever after, even if he believes he doesn’t deserve it.
Shandi Boyes has a writing style that makes you want to just keep reading. The characters in her other books have become your friends, your family even. You want to be them. Beneath the Sheets is no different. I loved that Ava wasn’t a weak female. Yes, she loved Hugo with her whole heart, yes she was crushed. Did she roll over and die when he made his choices? No, not quite. She needed to live and Shandi Boyes made sure she did.
I highly recommend this story but you must read book one first.
Beneath the Sheets: Hugo’s Story Book 2 (Enigma 6) by Shandi Boyes 5 stars
***This is NOT a stand-alone*** this is book 2 of 2 Beneath the Sheets begins were Beneath the Secrets left off.
“The past cannot be changed, forgotten, edited, or erased. It can only be accepted”. This story is Part 2 of Hugo’s past. We know that Hugo is like “Clark Kent who keeps his superhero identity inside” and now we have a deeper understanding of how true that is.
“…family isn’t the people related to you by blood. It is the people you chose to be a part of your life that makes them family.” Beneath the Sheets is ALL about family of choice AND family of blood. We learn how Hugo and Isaac are bonded and we get to see Hugo’s point of view on a few of the things that happened between Izzy and Isaac and why he did it.
As with all of the books in the Enigma Series there are twists and turns that are unexpected. The story is moving merrily along when suddenly the brakes get hit and you skid into a side street that takes you to a different town square. Shandi Boyes ALWAYS brings us back to the main road again. It’s what I enjoy about reading her stories. The main thread is always the core to the story.
In addition to Hugo’s story concluding, we also get a deeper understanding of “Blondie”. If you have been curious about how Brandon fits into everything, this is going to answer some of your questions.
Beneath the Sheets allows the series to come full circle and gives me, the reader, closure on the entire Enigma series. Well done Shandi Boyes.
Book Review: Beneath the Sheets Author: Shandi Boyes FIVE STARS
In standing with all of her other books, author Shandi Boyes has done it again. Written a stellar book. The last book, so far, in the Enigma series is based on Hugo and Ava.
Hugo is finally coming to grips with is life and the way he left things five years ago. Now can he get Ava back? She has never been off of his mind or out of his heart, but is it the same for her? Now that the threat that was Col is gone, since he is now dead, can Hugo make his way back to her or will it be too late? Has five years been too long? Has she moved on with someone else? Ava has believed that Hugo has been dead for the last 2 years. What on earth is keeping her from moving on? Yes she has Marvin in her life now but that is more of a convience thing. He has his affairs and she doesnt care because it means he will leave her alone. When Hugo shows up Ava is PISSED off beyond all belief. What in the world has he been doing for the last five years. Where has he been? Why now does he chose to show his face. Will the things that Hugo learns leave him reeling or will he embrace the changes in Ava's life over the last five years and come to terms with what it means for him as well.? Shandi Boyes writes heart wrenching stories that draw you in and make you want to just hide out in a quiet spot and read until you finish the whole book in a single sitting. You HAVE to know what happens. You HAVE to be there until the end. I adore Hugo and Ava's story and I hope you do too. Kelli Harper
Beneath the Sheets by Shandi Boyes is the second novel in Hugo’s story and is a five star novel. Please read Beneath the Secrets before you read the rest of this review as there will be some spoilers. Hugo is a big burly guy who works for Isaac Holt. Isaac is a hugely successful businessman. When Isaac starts dating Izzy, he decides to move Hugo from his 9-5 job and put him in charge of her detail. He is very happy about the change because he knows how much Isaac really does trust him now. Then one day, he turns his back for just a second and she gets abducted. Hugo has known this feeling before when his sister was killed in a car accident. He feels responsible for the accident because the mob boss was actually after him. This event changed his life forever and that of his best friend Hawke since he was married to her. After visiting Hawke and trying to keep a low profile in his new life, he realizes he must go back home. He must let the people he knows and loves that he is still alive. He left his life five years ago to try to protect them from the mob boss but now that he is dead, maybe he can build those relationships back up again. That includes his relationship with Ava. He loves her and is desperate to get her back. He knows how much his leaving has hurt her, but he is hopeful she might forgive him. When he gets to his mom’s house on Christmas Day, he realizes that she has moved on. She has moved on to a guy who acts just like her father and tells her exactly what she can and can't do. He knows she isn't happy but also knows he might not be able to change that.
Beneath the Sheets (Enigma #6) written by Shandi Boyes 5 stars
Well I'm a little tired, but it was worth it. Shandi Boyes hit another one out of the park! This series just gets better and better with each book. I love learning more about the previous characters and how their stories intertwine. If (I don't know why you'd want to miss any of this series) you don't read the series in order I think you should at least read Beneath the Secrets prior to this book to help explain some of Hugo’s story and the cliffhanger that it picks up from.
Hugo isn't the only one keeping secrets. He is starting to reconsider the choices he made and why. It's been five years since he choose to live a new life and he's starting to wonder if it was worth it. Was it worth missing out on the life he dreams about daily? Was it worth living without those he loves?
“It took courage to walk away like you did. To sacrifice everything to keep your family safe. To keep Ava safe. But a man who can admit he made a mistake would be even more courageous than that.”
This story is filled with so many emotions...regret, forgiveness, love, heartache, hope, fear and passion. There are twist and surprises thrown in with many secrets. You won't regret diving into this series it's one of my favorites. It's worth a reread once Shandi breaks my heart and finishes this series. I know Hunter's story is next so I have at least one more new read to add to my TBR list.
BENEATH THE SHEETS (Enigma #6) AUTHOR: SHANDI BOYES
FIVE STARS
BENEATH THE SHEETS is the sixth book in the Enigma series by Shandi Boyes. Please do not read this book if you haven't read the others. It is not a stand alone. Please read them in order. You will get so much more enjoyment from them because there is a lot of information that leads up to this book and the characters are recurring. I literally have not moved since I started on page one. I didn't want to stop and eat or have any conversations. That is just how good it is. Shandi has hit another homerun with this addition to her captivating series.
Hugo finally gets the rest of his story told and his happily ever after. I fell head over heals in love with Hugo. He is an amazing character with a lot of honor.
When we make a decision we never know how it will turn out, and a lot of times we would like to change our decision, but would we? That is what happened to Hugo. He made a decision that changed his life. His sister, Jorgie, was pregnant and killed in a terrible accident. Hugo’s life was shattered and he was consumed with grief. He couldn't think straight and made a decision that affected him and his happiness. He was in love with Ava, but he chose to walk away from everything and everybody,
If he could go back, would he change his decision? After five long years his past has caught up with him.
Please read this book to find out how Hugo’s story ends.
Beneath The Sheets is Hugo's Story: Book Two, and it's the sixth book in the Enigma Series. I would definitely recommend reading the previous books in the series, as this book picks up where the previous book ends. With this series you're guaranteed to have some drama, romance, and amazing characters. I've been patiently waiting for the second part of Hugo's story and it didn't disappoint, it was absolutely amazing! Another 5 star read!
Five years ago, Hugo made a terrible decision, one that will haunt him for the rest of his life. He has no idea that this one decision would have the effect that it has. He loses his sister and nephew in a tragic accident, he stops thinking rationally, and then he loses Ava in the same week. He's been a ghost ever since, he's only coasting through life. He's kept himself away from everyone, including the people who want to kill him. He knew his past would catch up to him but he never imagined they would bring up this secrets. He's getting so tired of hiding and keeping these things a secret. Can Hugo ever move on and come out of hiding? Will he ever get his happy ending?
This series is absolutely amazing! I love seeing all the characters and watching them grow. Especially Ava and Hugo, they each have their own issues and things to work through, but they just fit together. I just wanted to wrap Hugo and Ava in a huge hug and protect them. This series just keeps getting better and better and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Beneath the Sheets: Hugo’s Story - Book 2 (Enigma 6) by Shandi Boyes
5 Stars
This is the second book in Hugo’s story, I absolutely loved the first and feel the exact same about this one. This story takes place five years after the first book and in that five years Hugo has been presumed dead by everyone that loves him and those that are out to kill him. Losing his sister and her unborn baby 5 years ago took all rational thoughts and actions out of the picture for Hugo. Walking away from Ava, the love of his life is another pain he will never stop feeling.
Many things have changed for Ava since Hugo’s disappearance and the loss of her best friend and her unborn baby. She's never gotten over it and it almost ruined her. She had to stay strong though and has ended up in a less than ideal situation.
When Hugo decides that he is done hiding and running and learns that he isn't the only one with secrets can he prove to those he loves that he won't run again? What happens when an unexpected kiss could interfere with every part of his future?
I couldn't wait to read this story, and now have the rest of the Enigma series yet to read. This author has won me over and I absolutely love her style, and her character building. I can already tell I'll have these books in my to be read again file. Loved it!!!
Beneath the Sheets by Shandi Boyes is the conclusion of Hugo’s story and the sixth book in her Engima series. You definitely cannot read it as a standalone! You would be so lost that it is not even funny! I actually suggest that you not only read Hugo’s first book but that you read all the 5 preceding books! As said above, Beneath the Sheets is the conclusion of Hugo’s story and I have been waiting for it for ever! (Or at least it feels like for ever …). It is a story about love, family; friendships that go beyond the mundane, sacrifice, guilt … you just name it! Five years have passed since we left Ava behind and disappeared with Hugo and now it is time for Hugo to face the music, go back and make amends and pray that Ava’s heart is big enough to give him another chance … This book will take you hostage, play with your emotions and at times you are not sure where is up and where is down, it is such a rollercoaster, such emotions … and it is not just women who feel here, it is also those strong alpha males! I could not put the story down before I was finished with it and then I went and checked when the release date of Hunter’s story is and I pre-ordered it! I love your story telling Ms Boyes and I impatiently am waiting for Hunter’s story! I wonder who will be next … Please do not keep us waiting too long! We need our Engima world fix!
