Half of the resistance is captured… …The other half are in hiding. Who’s left to stand and fight? Anna barely escaped with her life. Others weren’t so lucky. She can’t outrun her past, not even with the power of teleportation. The AbGen agency will stop at nothing to see her dead, and the last group of rebels silenced – permanently. But can all the rebels be trusted? Driven by Pearce’s fanaticism, AbGen have spies everywhere. Anna and Scott have only one chance to stop the agency’s corrupt agenda, and rescue those taken captive. Will their desperate bid to earn their friends’ freedom cost them their own? You’ll love this suspenseful Urban Fantasy because freedom always comes at a price.
This is book five of the TalentBorn series and continues the story of Anna and Scott, who are both absa’s, people who are abnormally biologically selectively advantaged. Anna was recruited to join AbGen, the Abnormal Genetics Research Department, by Scott when he worked for the company, until he found out what they were secretly doing to some of the most talented absa’s. He escaped with Anna and they eventually found a different group of gifted people calling themselves Ishmaelians and joined them with a few others that escaped AbGen’s clutches. In the latest book, half of the Ishmaellian resistance was captured after a mole within their ranks, gave away their secret hideaway location! Now the remainder have had to relocate to an unprepared location, with few supplies and scared to expose themselves and their location, in case they also get caught and chucked into cages by AbGen’s evil leader, Pearce.
Anna only just managed to get away with a few others, as their leader and a few others sacrificed themselves, to give others a chance to flee. Some of their numbers have been killed and others have disappeared and it is unknown if they are alive, missing or have been captured. Pearce will stop at nothing to capture all those with any gifts and he runs experiments on absa’s as well as normal people, to pay with powers he wants people under his control to have. He will stop at nothing to get Anna back and if he can’t then he will want to see her dead, rather than free or in anyone else’s hands, especially any other rebels, who he wants to silence permanently. Only problem for Scott and Anna is that they don’t know who to trust, especially as they seem to have their every move known about in advance!
Anna and Scott want to rescue the rest of their friends, old and new, from AbGen’s clutches, but first they need to find out the location of all those who have been captured and then they can work out a plan to get them. If they can’t figure out who the mole is, then they will have to try to go alone, which will be much more difficult. If they try, they will probably be overwhelmed by AbGen’s numbers and lose their own freedom as well. Anna was tortured and trained specially by Pearce, when she was last in his hands, and has become even more powerful, having three talents rather than the normal one. Only problem is her having little time to learn how to control the newest one, which allows her to astral project herself. Pearce though, has bumped up the security around his agency building and labs, knowing that they are likely to attempt another rescue attempt. Her powers are no longer going to be enough for their plan to work!
Another great read in this series and I love the fight for a normal life that Anna, Scott and the others are striving for. Most of those who work at AbGen have no idea of the sick experiments and prisoners that are being kept in secret, underneath the agency’s building and the location of secret labs as well. Hopefully, if they do find out about these prisoners and the evil their leader is doing, they may eventually help the rebels rather than try to snatch them off the streets in the future. A fascinating read about those with special powers and the problems they face when others want to use them for their own evil purposes! Anna and Scott are great characters and have already been through so much, but still have to fight for their freedom every day. I loved this book and series so much, that I have bought this book, even though I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout! I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

So much suspense. Anna and Scott are still trying to find the ones that got away from Pierce’s attack. Now they have a mole amongst them. Who is helping Pierce? Can they survive again? Can they rescue the others that Pierce captured? What will it take to stop Pierce?

This is book 5 in a series. I don’t know when it will end. I recommend waiting for it to be finished before starting the first one. Once it’s finished, it’ll be worth reading.
