I Was Hired To Take Care Of His Children... But He Took Care Of Me In Every Way Imaginable
I was tired of the senseless violence, the grey depression, and Memphis. Above all, I was tired of running from one district to another, trying to find some form of a normal life.
So, when a nanny position practically fell into my lap, I jumped at it. Dan Sinclair was a busy but loving father, with two little handfuls who needed constant attention. So, being a nanny wasn’t anything glamorous. Then again, neither was being a single Dad.
How was I to know this single dad would turn out to be my protector? How was I to know he was my biggest fear—a wolf shifter? And how was I to know I’d soon fall in love with two of them?
I was disappointed in this story. Usually this is a go to author for me for lighthearted, sexy paranormal romance but this just wasn’t on par with the rest of her work. I was almost 50% done with the book and Alanna didn’t even meet Dan or his kids. The first 50% of the story could have been written in 3 to 4 chapters. There were some good parts to the story, overall I enjoyed the characters. The last half of the book it picked up and there was some steamy parts. It was just meh for me not the best story but certainly not the worst I’ve ever read.
This was a great overall read but I do gotta admit that it was pretty slow paced, seriously. But literally years passed during the entirety of the story. Its Full of Drama, Dangers, Two sexy guys, two sweet boys, A hidden agenda, a never ending war & our guys' fight for love. I was sucked into the story, Completed it in 6hrs!
ARC Received for a honest review.
ALERT: This story is Dystopian, set up In the 2040's.
Starting 40% of the story Shows the lows the world has fallen into, the hunger & dangers, How Alanna is surviving it all. She's so brave!
The mystery surrounds 'Operation Alpha' who took over much After 'The onyx depression'. Basically it was an army of wolves who wanted Freedom.
Al's been running for years, after being attacked by a wolf shifter, knowing they're after her (& her mom), maybe its related to her dad's mysterious death? He knew too much..
She had no money living in the streets, so the nanny position came as a blessing. She met Dan & his two unruly sons. We get to know them well. Soon she Meets Sean, Dan's bestie, rather dramatically *snicker*. She & Sean don't get along that well!
Dan's the Responsible one, quiet strength Charming. While, Sean's The opposite Dramatic one, unapologetically himself.
All 5 form a family unit, quite beautiful! Until her jealousy got her kicked out of Dan's home (Not literally kicked, but she did say venomous words to Dan..)
She was attacked on street, but Sean saved her *Whew* Now, he finally tells many pieces of the puzzle! *Many secrets reveal!* (Sean's a wealth of knowledge, throughout!)
As days pass, her recuperating, she can't hide the fantasies she'd dreamed (Sexy! *Blush*) Then the day came when Sean takes her to Dan. Regroup, Apologies, Talk, Forgiving..
They are Ex-Alphas, now fighting the same group, their previous lives, whom she was running from. Nothing was fate, Not her meet with Dan OR Sean. But their attraction? Hot as hell! So true.
Even as the 3's desire Erupts (Liquid courage!), The Plan's formed. Her mom held the key, the documents, which can bring the bad guys down. What ensued next was: Drama, Visiting Momma, Returning to a Bomb and A hellish fight! * Dan & Sean Being Wolf shifters helped!*
As long as the War raged, they couldn't be totally safe. But now they held the way to end it. Happiness is worth the pain.
The story wraps up nicely in the epilogue! Showing Dan, Sean & Al's kids. So sweet❤. It was healing years for the world, Finally Safe.
P.s. The two kids were relentless at 1st but I'm happy they warmed up to her. She's really patient!
Her Forgotten friend-Frank was a nice Side character! As short his role was, he pushed her into the right direction, her destiny. I liked him!
Alanna has had a hard life and get a break when she is hired for a live-in nanny job. It doesn’t bother Dan she doesn’t have a lot of experience being a nanny. Sparks are soon flying between Dan, his friend Sean and Alanna. A bit slow but great characters and an intriguing story. I liked it.
I don't normally leave a review but with this book I have to say how disappointed I am. The blurb us misleading in that it only refers to the last half of the book. I'd read several chapters before I went back to look at the blurb as I thought I'd download the wrong book. The first half was a load of unnecessary waffle, didn't really add to the story and was very hard going. By the time I got halfway through I seriously considered giving up. The story redeemed itself slightly but even the epilogue left more questions rather than wrap up the story. Will definitely check the reviews before I'd consider reading another of Lilly's book. Just glad I downloaded this as a free book.
I was sent a preview copy and asked to review. I thought the blurb was good, I was looking forward to it, but bitterly disappointed. Really struggled to read to the end, no clear plot. Muddled in places, had to keep going back to earlier chapters and then names, dates etc not adding up. It felt as if I was reading notes to write a story. No clear start, middle end. Really needs a serious rewrite and editing. Don’t recommend.
The story was boring. There was no sustenance to it. It was too drawn out and only from a single persons point of view. If it was maybe from the other characters point of view it might have been a little less boring. The fact that it focused solely on the heroine and no one else didn't really catch my interest. The end of the book was nice though, but all in all it was boring.
The first half of the book was a bit repetitive and needs to be edited to a smaller scale. How many horrible things can happen to a person before the storyline truly takes place.
The characters are well thought out and individually are strong. However, they don't gel together until the last part of the book. Very disappointing for a Lilly Wilder story.
Honestly, I was hoping for a few more steamy scenes from this one. A woman who was hiding from the wolves ends up living with and falling for 2 wolves. It took a while to get to the main chunk of the story and then it fizzled out quickly. It was an enjoyable story, but not one of this author's best.
I did not finish this book as it was so stupid and made no since. Not a book I would recommend. So glad I did not have to pay money for it. I wanted a book about shifters and when I decided to stop reading I was already on chapter 8 and nothing about wolf shifters.
I received an advanced copy of this story for an honest review.
This story is set in a very dark future where Alana is struggling to survive. Even with every hurdle thrown at her, she continues to fight, unwilling to just give up. I don't know if I would have had that same strength myself.
The romance is definitely a slow burn. This is a lot more intrigue built in as danger comes for Alanna.
I was wowed by the darkness Alanna has to crawl out of. I enjoyed the time she spends with the two boys - she is exactly what the family needed. The story left me with hope that the future doesn't have to stay as dark as it started out.
This was a little more of a somber read than the past few of Lilly's stories. I think that is partially due to Alanna being on her own for so long and having to rely on herself. The guys become a strong support and the 3 of them they make a great team.
It was an interesting and satisfying read that fans will enjoy.
There’s a sex scene 83% of the way through, then suddenly a relationship, in this post-apocalyptic mystery.
Pacing is a big problem. We suddenly find ourselves a few months down the road, with no clear indication of when we are, or how we got here.
Too much time is spent world-building, without adding the kinds of details that make the world feel properly grounded. The villain is nebulous & badly defined, the climactic interaction really wasn’t, & there was a weird, short, awkward epilogue as the entire denouement.
There were NO Queer characters.
There were NO Disabled characters.
There were NO POC characters.
I would not recommend this book to other readers, because I did not have a pleasant time reading it, and I don’t know anyone who would enjoy this.
I will no re-read it.
I do not feel like my time was well spent on this book.
Alanna has been on the move since she was attacked five years before leaving her mother behind.Returning home late with some shopping Alanna is attacked and when she wakes up still in the alley but she manages get herself up and she runs. Five years later she is desperate for a new job to pay the rent and for food when she is attacked again. Now she is running living on the streets until she manages to get a place in a home that takes in the homeless. This gives her a chance to build up her strength with regular meals a safe place to sleep. when a fellow lodger in the home gives her a flyer asking for potential nannies to apply she phones and arranges an interview and soon finds her self working for Dan caring for his two stepchildren. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I did not think of what the world might be in 2024. In fact I did not realize exactly what the book would be about and was more than happily surprised! The story grabbed me and pulled me in quickly. There is a strange post apocalypse and life it self is a huge struggle to survive day to day. Alanna is looking to survive - she seems to find Dan who needs someone to care for his 2 sons - it is a better job than many she had tackled. Dan's friend is also strongly featured and I won't say more as I don't want to spoil this great story. I don't know if there were any before or will be after - but I will be looking. Lilly Wilder's story is very uniquely done and while there is the expected sex, it is done well and not even the most important part of the book. I highly recommend this book and again, will be looking for more!!
Omg ..... okay soooo wasn't really a fan of this one, not even because there wasn't much steamy stuff. It just felt like the book dragged on in the beginning to no end. I get telling us a background of the setting but it just felt like the story was going around in circles. Also with this looking I've it was gonna be a romance type of story it just played out more as like paranormal mystery or thriller with a splash of romance. Another thing when it finally didn't start to get juicy and not just the sex parts it was over.... then 5 years later pops up with them all still together one happy family. We don't see or really hear about the stuff that happened. I am giving it a 3 because it was good but at the same time I had to force myself to continue reading and at the end I just didn't know why I didn't put the book down completely n be done with it
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's plot had my attention straight from the beginning. I loved the idea of the dystopian world, left after a civil war, full of violence and poverty. Loved the idea of corruption surrounding a special forces unit who operated under the code name Operation Alpha. The connection between Alanna's family and this unit. How her father, through his work, became unknowingly connected to Operation Alpha. How she and her mother have been running and hiding from this unit for a long time. I loved Alanna's growing attraction to both,Dan,her employer and Sean his best friend. Loved her reaction to discovering that they are both the very thing she has been running from. I honestly recommend that you give this book a try.
This story has a twist on the usual shifter trope and though a menage has more of a societal change theme. A young woman, Alanna, is fighting to get a break in an unfriendly world when she is offered a chance as a live-in nanny to two little boys. Dan is filling the role of a single father and is happy for even the inexperienced help Alanna offers. The best friend, Sean, gets off on the wrong foot with Alanna until chemistry develops between the three of them. When Alanna finds out that what she fears the most is right in front of her she learns some hard truths. The story is a little heavy on building the environment (but that may be helpful if this is a series) but the character development, action, and plot are solid. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book has a dystopian feel to it. Alanna has had a rough life. Alanna's family is thrown into turmoil when her father dies. Life is very difficult for Alanna, until she drops into Dan's life as a nanny for his two sons. The irony being that Dan was from the people Alanna was running from. I do not usually go for books from a dystopian feel to them, just a personal preference, but this one I did not seem to mind. I have read Lilly Wilder before and have always enjoyed her work, so I gave this one a chance and am glad I did. I just wish Dan and Sean, Dan's best friend were introduced a little earlier in the book. They are both great characters.
I really enjoyed this book. Alanna has had a rough life, living on the streets and working job after job. While living in a shelter she gets a job working as a live in nanny for two little boys. Even though she lacks the experience, Dan, the boys’ father, doesn’t seem to mind and they get along well. Then she meets his best friend Sean and things between the three heat up. I liked the world building, how Dan and Sean were fighting for something they believed in, and add in some wolf shifters and it made an exciting read.
I have to say this isn't my favourite of Lilly's work it didn't seem to flow as well as her stories normally do and I am not even sure why
Allana just wants to survive she has grown up in a dark world where survival is a day by day even finally with the help of a friend she ends up in a refuge and from there she is offered a job as nanny to two little boys. Ben is their father he is a busy man but he tries to be a great dad then his friend Sean comes on the scene leading to tension. Can she finally have a safe future.
Alana is struggling to survive when she finds a job as a nanny. Sparks fly between Alanna and Dan but things really heat up when she meets Sean. Alana has been trying to stay away from some people that are after her and finds out that Dan is related to those people. Will this cause trouble between them all? Can they still be together?
This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is scorching hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
Who can you trust? Is it ever safe? Can you believe what you’re own eyes and ears tell you to be true?
A young girl striving to survive on the streets as she grows, she’s just trying to make enough time have a roof, food in her belly and stay safe from the alphas. It is a slow start but it is a week written story with an entirely new spin on werewolves. This book is filled with struggle to survive, unexpected twist and even a few spicy moments.
3.5 stars from me. It was a good book overall but for me some parts of it was to muddled and I couldn’t get a grasp of what was really going on so that is why I can’t give it anymore. But I liked the characters and their story overall.
I received a free copy of this story in exchange for an honest review
This book has a philosophical feel. There are wolf shifters and a ménage romance. But it also shows what happens when a group that has a lot of political and financial power can become the detriment of our society. I think it comes from the uncommon world we are living in at this moment. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I did receive an advance copy for my honest review
All Alanna wants is a safe place. A place where she can stop running from her nightmares. When she takes a job as a nanny for two little boys, Alanna thinks her search may be over. When she finds out the secret the father is keeping, will she run again? I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing.
It took me a while to get into this story. Alanna went through a lot and had to count on herself and her street smarts to survive. It slowly picked up at the halfway mark with the characters coming together. That being said it was a good but complicated story with a happy ending. I received this as an ARC and give my honest review.
Interesting read. It took a while to get into the story as there was quite a bit of backstory so you understood the plot of the storyline but after that the story was pretty intense. I thoroughly enjoyed the quirky characters and their world. Would enjoy seeing more of their world and their characters in another story.
This story is about a future world where shifters are getting back at the human race, but the main characters are rebels who shows you the he'll they go through to try for a happy life with love. The characters keeps your attention all the way through the pages of the story until the end.☺
I find Lily’s books really difficult to put down. This book is more dystopian than romance. The world building is slow and unveils as the book progresses. I sort of feel like it should be part of a series. This book was different from the others of hers that I have read, but still truly enjoyable.
ARC Review For honest review. Alanna is trying her best to make in life, but things are just getting worse .when she hears about a job working as a nanny she takes it and meets Dan and his two boys and best friend sean . This is for some steam
This was a great read. It was an interesting read. It kept you guessing what's going to happen next. It entertaining and sometimes sweet. The characters were great. The ending was nice.
