Dara Barnes, violent teenage gang member, and Sylvia Dodds, rookie police officer, seem bent on totally different paths but over time their lives become more and more entangled. In this story of crime and redemption anything and everything becomes possible as the material and spiritual dimensions are increasingly disturbed and comingled until, finally, reality, life and death lose all meaning. What is the meaning of life? Is there an existence after death? Is there really a God or are we all alone? Creation or Evolution? Who is God? Does God make mistakes? If so, will he admit them? All these questions and more are explored in this strange and profound tale of law and order, alcohol and drug issues, good and evil, dream and nightmare, life and death, creation and destruction, quantum entanglement, bulk/brane cosmology, alternate Universes, higher dimensions, time travel and spirituality. Guest appearances from Queen Victoria, John Brown, Albert Einstein, Jesus, Krishna, Jehovah, Nataraja, a tyrannosaurus rex, a giant spider and other fascinating wildlife help entertain and inform us. The mysterious character of The Word adopts a friendly, cooperative role in a novel that is sometimes gritty and down to Earth and at other times profound, often terrifying and often funny. Brave the Void and join us for the fairground ride of your life in Sylvia and the Singularity.
This book is my latest novel and the rating I have given it is only to make it visible which, sadly, it is not as I can't afford to pay the fees for a Giveaway as well as the books and postage. My reading of the Kindle version is more of a final proofread for howlers. It is something I always do because any missed mistakes seem to leap out in that format. My rating? Of course I think it's amazing in the literal sense of the word. ;) Seriously, if I wasn't happy with it, I would not have released it rather than rated it lower and I will probably delete the rating over time anyway. I hope that is honest enough.
The main thing is, my book is an illustration in fiction of "out of the mud grows a lotus." Police officer Sylvia's life is ordinary and at times difficult, Dara is a violent criminal with a deprived past who makes a fresh start. What happens when their paths cross, first in real life and later in a higher dimension?
Sylvia in the Singularity offers a wild ride from teenage gangs in garages, cops and bank robbers, drugs and alcohol, dementia and elderly care, violence and its consequences, to cosmology, bulk/brane theory, quantum mechanics and the basis of Creation according to physics. Historical and religious figures feature through time travel & life changing adventures. Finally we encounter the terrifying Void and the birth of a new Universe.
I could tell you more, maybe about Queen Victoria and John Brown, or maybe about Jesus's sense of humour and knowledge of quantum mechanics and cosmology, or perhaps about Albert Einstein and a dinosaur, but I don't want to reveal it all. It's a clean read, but the language is gritty and adult on occasion, especially with the streetwise kids, as you might expect to make it more true to life. There are moments of horror and humour along the way.
It is available from Amazon in Paperback and ebook format, will eventually be available to order in bookstores and is presently free to read with Kindle Unlimited.
I hope you will give a try and I also hope you enjoy it.
