Eddie Hunter just wants to keep building his settlement, but somehow there's always something in the way. His good ties with Freyja have made him a target for one of the other AIs in the game. One of the other less savory AIs, who isn't too picky about how he expresses his displeasure.
On defense against the opponents being hurled at him, the support of his party and the other adventurers in the area is critical, and beyond his expectations. But even in the midst of the attacks he still manages to continue building, which is lucky since his current building project is the defensive walls of the castle he intends to create.
Tom Larcombe was introduced to fantasy books at a young age. Those that were aimed more at children hooked him in, but not well enough for him to remember their names at this point in his life. Their draw led him to books aimed more for the adult reader and so he found himself, at around age eight, starting in on the Steven R Donaldson 'Thomas Covenant' series and the Hobbit, followed shortly thereafter by The Lord of the Rings books.
His reading tastes have never looked back, although they have broadened to include science fiction and the occasional non-fiction book.
He lives in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with his wife, two daughters, three cats, and a variable number of chickens.
The MC has gotten so bitchy that I can't stand it anymore. He keeps complaining about everything that happens even as it continues to only give him benefits and the AI constantly solves his problems for him. At first, I was annoyed by his girlfriend, but now I'm sure they deserve each other. She an insecure bitch, he a whiny moron.
Also, the unnecessary drama about players dying in a GAME where the only issue they'll have is waiting for an hour to respawn is so retarded that I just kept rolling my eyes.
In the real world, a game like this would flop in a couple of years unless there isn't any competition. The mechanics are stupidly overcomplicated and simple at the same time and only the most hardcore roleplayers would stick it out after a couple of days.
I only give it 2 stars because I like the combination of city-building and LitRPG.
Oof, this latest instalment was a tough one to get through. The repetitive dialogue between the characters was way too much. It's almost as if the author had a word limit he needed to reach and figured that a character thinking about something then sharing it out loud is a good way to squeeze those words in.
I really enjoyed the previous books, each one had a significant events to overcome that challenged the main character. This book seemed to be a walk in the park. Everything falls into place easily, resources appear as needed, etc.
While not a bad read, it wasn’t what I was expecting after the previous books.
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.
To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.
To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.
To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
This one wasn’t my favorite, but that doesn’t mean i didn’t like it. This one had more mistakes in it than usual. I like how the story is progressing. I’m not sure why at the end there was no mention of the elf. Eddie had several down days and the elf was no where to be seen. Plus he wanted to try and save his friends and there seems to be no hurry to the raid. I would like to see Eddie set something up for the kids. I mean he’s mentioned that kids in the area sometimes get into trouble for lack of something else to do. He could set up like an arcade with ski ball, a basketball hoop racquet ball etc... This book more or less filled out a lot of the story for me which I like. I’m going to be sad when this series ends
I like when my expectations are somewhat subverted - in this case, something that I foresaw as fait accompli and likely to be the final chapter of the book has been put off until the next (and concluding?) book.
For me at least, this is a series that may have been better read in something closer to a single block of time, rather than having a pretty big gap between books 2 and 3. As a result, I'm going through 3, 4, and soon 5 much closer together. What I'm trying to decide is if this will be true for most other series, or if it was something in this. If it's true for most other series I may need to start re-ordering my queue so as to block series together as much as possible rather than just sticking the next book onto the bottom of the queue when I finish up a book.
I went back and forth between giving this 4 or 5 stars. The background story improved and I thing the new IT character was well done but for the most part this is turning into Eddie's dairy and to do list. I also was hoping for a better ending this was one was a bit abrupt and just felt like the author hit a certain page count and just said well that should get it. Ok so that is the downside but overall I still care about the character and think this is still a well above average litrpg story and no doubt I will read the next one.
Our hero's development quest is progressing well and the trickster AI is getting frustrated with him. He has initiated a challenge that the hero and his party need to defend and survive to ensure that all the hard work put in so far does not get lost.
On a side note, we have burgers now in the virtual world.
The MC is definitively on a kingdom building path, but fame bring insecurities and he has to work on them while managing to lead strongly inside the game.
My kind of book. Steady progression throughout the story. Unlike most no big climax battle at end of major cliffhanger. The town is growing and Eddie is at the center of it. He must contend with a jealous and petty so God at the same time grow the town and protect its people. He doesn't have to go grind as the grind finds him. Looking forward to more... And soon I hope.
I appreciate the deeper character building as the story goes on, and how the author provides periodic glimpses into other character’s perspectives.
His ability to give each character their own distinct “voice” makes for an enjoyable read. Definitely a great series for anyone who enjoys cultivation novels, and the inclusion of building in addition to adventuring is a nice variation in this genre.
As far as town building litrpgs go it was alright. A few things continue to annoy and frustrate. Bone headedness is tolerable to a point, but should not be used to advance a plot. The almost total disregard for loot in the book is a missed opportunity. Story is a bit short and a lot of filler, building, building, building got a bit monotonous.
I really like these books. Nothing earth shattering but a fun, in depth tale of a guy in an immersive game who builds a life for himself and has some adventures. Lots of base building and some good adventuring. Looking forward to the next one and will miss this little world when it’s over.
The light on line series. Staring Eddie, Tiana, and the rest of their friends. Is an Awesome series. As despite it's being more of a builder style RPG. Tom Larcombe the author. Has written another excellent book series. Woth engrossing characters and fantastic stories for them to be in.
Fantastic entry into one of my favorite series. The slower slice of life Rpg just works for me. Can't wait to see how he brings it all together in the next one!
As before, this book is solid. The characters are fleshed out well, even the AI, and the world building is simple but well done and reads as fairly realistic.
Way too many errors ! It was hard to follow at times and though I read the other books and want to see how this story ends ,the characters didn't seem as likable and were too whiny at times. I hope you get someone to proof read next book.
This entire series has been wonderful thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to the upcoming last book. Definitely recommend to anyone reading this series start at the beginning. I would like to thank the author for making it Available on Kindle unlimited
Another great book in the series with some fun moments. Loved the action looking forward to many more. Love that everything isn't centred on combat but in actually building of his settlement.
I like Mr. Larcombe’s books. He does a good job of twining the “real” world, the fictional game world, and the AIs together. What a fun adventure. Good character development. Fun growth of the AIs and the ethics of allowing certain growth in an AI.
A delightful, easy read, partly due to the lack of flaws we see in so many of this genre, LitRPG. No extreme sexism or violence. The focus on essential crafting is interesting. It's like eating candy, listening to this series.
Great story, fun characters, battles and even the NPC'S have character.elves Dwarves, humans, goblins, orcs and elves. It doesn't get better than epic battles throughout the story.
I really like this story! Enjoying each book fully.
Such an enjoyable story. Each book of the series adds new situations, New characters and new dangers. At the same time the characters I like so much are still likeable and steady. Highly recommend. On to book five!
Good book great story I have been reading this series ever since it started obviously. I highly recommend this whole series. I've re read the series more than once.
