In Tempest Tossed, the third and final book of Tracy Krauss’s Three Strand Cord series, we pick up the story of Tempest Ross. She begins working for seasoned LA crime reporter Frank Dunlop, even rents a dog-friendly suite over his office. Before long, discovering the facts behind her parents’ death years earlier becomes her focus. However, her relationship with Ryan goes off the rails because his frequent absences, explained as ‘undercover work,’ arouse her suspicions about what he’s really up to.

We also pick up the story of Anne Marie, the nurse from the Mexican orphanage (Book 2). Home with her salt-of-the-earth family in Alberta after losing her job at the orphanage, she is forced to face personal and family issues that have dogged her since childhood. She soon flies out to a new assignment as a nurse for a gold mining company in the Northwest Territories… but not before her boyfriend from the orphanage days, Dirk (rich Boston playboy), pays her and her family a less than successful Christmas visit.

Krauss manages to weave all these seemingly disparate plot threads into a unified, suspenseful tale of danger, romance, and faith.

I especially enjoyed the description of Anne Marie’s family (Krauss’s ordinary characters are always recognizable, often funny, and ring true to life) and the workings of the gold mine (which was detailed and seemed authentic and plausible). Those two elements made this my favourite book of the series. It brings the story of the three friends to a satisfying conclusion.

I received Tempest Tossed as a gift from the author for the purpose of writing a review.

Spellbinding

Tempest Tossed is exactly as its name suggests. A roller-coaster of emotion as it pulls you into the dangerous life of a police officer and a reporter. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, Krauss hurled me in a totally different direction.
If you enjoy a good mystery and finger-biteing suspense, I recommend this book.
