What the world dreads most, happened. Now that they've begun to thrive, the true reason for humanity’s demise becomes ever more apparent. In her dystopian and post-apocalyptic bestselling novel, The China Pandemic, A. R. Shaw created a realistic world after a much too plausible pandemic event. Now, the remaining survivors must conquer their enemy more sinister than anyone ever guessed. The story moves forward with...The Last Infidels
The survivors are back in book three of the Graham's Resolution series. In the tiny town of Cascade, Washington, the members of Graham's camp and the Prepper camp welcome spring and begin to thrive as a community. Meanwhile, dark forces invade the peace they've cultivated. A common benevolent enemy of the past emerges, and suddenly the pandemic wasn't what it seemed at all. Read the ongoing saga of Graham's Resolution, Book 3, The Last Infidels, for the startling revelation.
I'm appalled at the racism and disrespectful nature of which the author has portrayed a religion/race. There's borderline racial slurs throughout the book and although I'm not Muslim I find it quite offensive.
Ball properly dropped. i enjoyed the first two books but this was poorly written and rather generic crap. Previously likable characters are now boring and the story went all "goddang muslims and them chinamen".
Another great instalment in this series. The reasons why the earth was infected with the virus become apparent and I guess the title of the novel gives a significant clue.
Now it is survival against a new enemy, of the humankind. I don't know where the criticism from reviewers of this novel that Shaw comes under from her depiction of the religious doctrine, belief and behaviour of this new enemy. She has depicted them as they are known in history and reality. She has not added any poetic licence to this group. For goodness sake, these critical reviewers have read nothing yet compared to what is depicted in other novels of military and political fiction that involve this group. I have read plenty and Shaw is mild in comparison in depicting the true nature of these people. One has to only see what has been portrayed in reality and modern history to see that Shaw is not influencing the reader with her own ideologies about this group.
This novel is more tense compared to the previous two. Now we know what the final two novels will be like.
I am fully aware that this series is not written by a Christian author so was not surprised by one character's definition of mankind's origin. I respect Shaw's belief. I have no illusions about this. I was aware this was not a Christian series when I downloaded the free first novel. Nevertheless, this is a great series, by a talented author. I am glad I have come across the series that was offered during the isolation period while the world takes the appropriate action to fight a similar virus as depicted in this storyline.
Now onto Book 4. This is going to be a high action and stressful ending of this series.
I really liked the beginning of this series, but in The Last Infidels, the agenda pushing got too distracting and detracted from the post-apocalyptic/survival/adventure stories that first got me into the books. Earlier in the series, there were some eye-rolling passages that were like "golly gee, guns ARE important after all, good thing my dad was a REAL MAN who taught me to use them" or but they were pretty easily ignored as they weren't too vital to the main story.
But the xenophobia really took over in this book. The depictions of the terrorists sound like they came straight from dubiously-sourced Breitbart articles. There's one passage where Graham hears about what The Terrorists are up to and realizes how foolish he had been in the past for having empathy and believing in diplomacy, fully completing his transformation from wimpy college professor to gun-toting bigot. The story then completely devolves into weird scaremongering about what will apparently happen if we don't carpet-bomb the entire Middle East.
I don't think I'll be reading the next book in the series. After all, if I wanted exposure to clunky Islamophobic stereotyping and jingoism, I'd turn on the news.
Honestly when the book started, and the author blamed it on Muslims/Jihad I wanted to stop it and return it to Audible. Seemed like a "red herring" kind of thing to me. But, I wanted to find out what happened to all the characters I have come to know as friends.
There was an unexpected death - we only know some people for a short time in this book.
Also, the Audible version, the narrator changed and it took me a minute to get used to him.
Overall, okay - I still think that maybe a new "boogeyman" would be used.
If you dare, you won’t regret it! I found this series from an ad on Facebook so glad I took the time to check it out. Extremely spooky storyline and scenarios considering we are going through our own “China Pandemic” with this CoVid-19. Incredible and eerie to think it was written seven years ago but the similarities are uncanny to what is and could be going on right now. I couldn't put this series down, every time I think it can’t get better it does. The characters are likable and the virus seriously uncanny. One of the very best post-apocalyptic series I’ve ever read.
Another cracking episode in this gripping series. Just when the survivors think they are over the worst another more dangerous threat is uncovered. Both camps have to work together to fight for their lives once more and this time there could be no survivors.
Everything you believed about what has happened so far is about to be thrown out as a new truth become apparent.
Ending on a cliffhanger I cannot wait to read the next book, I am seriously loving this series.
This went in a completely new direction and loved it, looking back there were hints. As I am binge listening to this series I am so invested in the characters and not going to deny there a tear (not saying more spoilers). This book didnt seem to have the production issues that the other two have had, which werent annoying and only noticeable as I had read the reviews.
The narrator was new to me and it did take me a while to get used to him, but it worked.
Yeah ~ I'm invested. Still perturbed by the errors, but Ms Shaw appears to have found a better proofreader/editor, so there aren't as many as before. I still enjoy reading about HOW they're surviving . . . . especially with the Preppers, and all . . . quite interesting! It's a good thing they've got a scientist who specializes in viruses! {cough, cough}
Hmmmm. This book seemed to end right in the middle of the story! I thought it could do with more thoughtful character development, and less blame on jhihad.... although with current pandemic, who knows what is the truth!? Sooo creepy how this story line could be a true story...with some jumps!
very disappointing. This series started getting good and then it took a nosedive with this book. I stopped reading the series after this one. I realized that there are more books in the series now than there were in 2015. Probably won't check them out but who knows? 2020 is the Year of the Prepper right?
The saga continues with our peppers and carriers now fighting a new enemy from the Middle East. It is very intense and at times you fear the group won't survive. I don't want the series to end.
I am really enjoying this series. It's well-written and thought provoking. The author has created a world that is terrifyingly real and peopled it with characters I've come to love. Moving on to book four now!
This was grim. So much loss in this one. I have no idea what is coming. It was a little much to hope this wouldn't eventually turn into more war between humans. The same premise is used in the Stryker series. I don't know if this will end the same way.
After picking up a young boy and two orphaned teenagers Graham finds himself running from the bad guys who caused the pandemic flue that killed almost all Americans. Great characters and gast action, real life emotions and overall a great read. Looking forward to read more
Really enjoying this series. Love the characters, the struggle and the action. These folks can't catch a break, and it is rough. Anyway, they are still fighting to exist, in a different way now...can't wait to read the last book!
A.R. Shaw has done it again. Another page turner you just don't want to put down but at the same time you don't want it to end. I am very much looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
This series is so good, I can't wait to read the show down. Well written and an good storyteller. I recommend the series, as you really need to start with the first in the series.
As I was reading this third book in the series, I gave great thoughts about how to survives if the Cornovirus 19 did wipe out most of the world populations. The book is very interesting and thoughtful.
That's me sorted with book 3. Now into book 4, I can't put them down, enjoyable, fascinating plot line has emerged. I won't spoil it for others but let's just say it is a fantastic and plausible twist. I can't wait to see how it developes. 😊
the 4.5 I gave the first book. I really loved the story and I still do but the continuing lack of the correct tenses, pronouns, etc is obnoxious. Yes I will read the next book.
Very well written. The good characterisations continue. Certainly a swing in the plot that I hadn’t seen coming with it’s more than difficult situations to be handled.
Couldn't put it down once I started, it's (they all have been so far) very easy reading, and I'm well engrossed in the escapades of the virus survivors. Looking forward to the next instalment.
