All things must end. Welcome to the final Deathless novel.
The builder Yoggoth has arrived in our Solar System, but his goal is not to conquer our world. He has locked the sun in a Yoggothian Sphere designed to siphon our star of all power.
Earth is hurled into darkness, denied the lifegiving heat of our sun, even as Yoggoth's fleets move upon our world. Our heroes, led by Blair, Liz, and Isis, must deal with the new winter before they can even hope to oppose them.
In Australia Jordan has used the intervening five years for one purpose. To become a Builder-slaying dino-enhanced death machine. Under Uluru's tutelage he has mastered combat, and stands ready to face Yoggoth, whatever the cost.
Outnumbered and outmatched Liz leads a desperate assault on Yoggoth's flagship, where Excalibur's destiny will finally be realized. If the blade breaks our world will be annihilated. If it holds, then Liz will provide Blair one chance to save everyone.
By day I am an iPhone developer architecting the app used to scope Stephen Colbert’s ear. By night I am Batman. Ok maybe not. One can dream though, right?
I’ve been writing since I was six years old and started inflicting my work on others at age 18. By age 24 people stopped running away when I approached them with a new story and shortly thereafter I published my first one in the Rifter.
Wait you’re still reading?
Ok, the facts I’m supposed to list in a bio. As of this writing I’m 38 years old and live just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the beautiful town of Mill Valley. If you’re unsure how to find it just follow the smell of self-entitlement. Once you see the teens driving Teslas you’ll know you’re in the right place.
I live in a tiny studio that I can cross in (literally) five steps and don’t own an oven. But you know what? It’s worth it. I love developing iPhone apps and if you want to work in San Francisco you accept that rent for a tiny place costs more than most people’s mortgage.
If you and about 2 million other people start buying my books I promise to move out of Marin to a house in the redwoods up in Guerneville. No pressure. Wait that’s a lie. Pressure.
Surely everyone will get as physically charged as I did while reading this book? The SERIES has it all, and now the end of the journey is here! And it turns out the smoke monster was some kind of weird island god thing but not really because they were all dead the entire time!!! No. This is the opposite ending of Lost. A satisfying ending where our heroes get their butts kicked. There’s some amazing swordswomanship, and oh yea, there’s Jordan (who I started picturing as a taller John Cena for the movies). His war form is now the thing of childhood dreams. I loved how it kept referencing back to the past and how he was and how his journey had shaped him (pun intended). Before you think it (which you have) I do not just have a hard on for Jordan. I love all the characters equally and don’t want to reveal anything ;) One of the most exciting parts for readers of Chris Fox’s universe, is when you…. Dang, I won’t reveal it! The universes are tied. He said that before. We know that. But the way it REALLY happens? Like, when IT happens? It’s just *chef’s kiss*!!! It fits but it doesn’t overpower the overall story. If you read this and think, “Oh that’s just a cheap way to…” please just think about it. Think about the grander implications. I keep seeing this other story laid underneath all these others. A story buried in the depths, below the pages of the book. It follows me around like a shadow… Anyways, this book may be the end of the series, but I see a much grander, very darker series that will take its place and the fate of the entire universe will be at stake. Isn’t that the best stake to have? I mean, Thanos killed 1/2 of all life and everyone was very sad. What if all life and all light were at stake? Those are pretty high stakes!!! Ok, buy this book, buy the series, read all of Fox’s other books and be a huge geek. I have to admit tho…. I haven’t read The Dark Lord Burt books :/ So I guess I’m gonna do that until the next Magitech or Void Wraith or whatever other awesome sauce book poops out of Chris’s brain!!!
The final chapters in this saga bring closure to an amazing series. I'm really sorry to see the end of this mythology, I've really enjoyed it.
There is a plan in the Cosmos, one hidden from us that influences all our lives. I'm not sure if the plan includes werewolves, zombies, mummies, or daddies for that matter. Sorry, humor forced its way through. Parts of that plan have been exposed in this book. Not enough to truly understand, only a bit to keep us interested. I don't think our minds are capable of understanding the entire map or plan.
The characters, in their fight for survival, unlocked pieces of the plan making them near godlike in their abilities but not in their understanding. The ability to use a weapon does not instill you with why, where, and how to use the weapon. All of our favorite characters are busy. Liz and Blair, Isis, Trevor, Morgan, and the rest taking on the original Builder, Yoggoth. There will be loss, and a little gain, maybe. The struggle for survival is vast and all encompassing with the foes arrayed against them. Can our friends (we know them that well!) gain the needed understanding to complete their plans? Will they win against their arch enemy?
Amazing characters, a complex and moving storyline, and some truly great scenes bring this portion of the story to a close. The story continues in a pair of series available now. If even a little of this series continues, I'm there! I love this series, and so will you! I'm betting on it!
These books have been a fun ride, i gotta admit i liked the first one best as the story just got more and more crazy and intense but it is well written and among the better i've read in the genre. As you get to know the main caracters you will cheer for them and hope they will overcome any threat and trust me, those comes in numbers as they gather all their powers to fight against an enemy with the intention of destroying earth and all life on it. If your into these kinds of stories and fantasy you will have a great time but start from scratch and get the big picture or you will miss out important details, have fun
Eight hours of pure escapism! All you need is somewhere to sit, a drink, and a bit of peace. This is so well written, that you are no longer yourself, but an observer to a massive struggle, against a godly being that wants to rule the universe. With ancient myths from all over Earth, our hero, Blair (not the treacherous UK prime Minister) and his partner, with Isis from Egyptian legend, and more, all opposing this unstoppable being Yoggorth, you can sit and lose yourself in their struggle to control the power of the Sun.
The series definitely deserves a 5-Star rating. Book 6 gives us battles against great evil determined to destroy all life on Earth, and yet, throughout, Blair, Liz, and their companions fight on, never totally giving up hope. Loved the book, loved the incorporation of mankind's various religious historic entities. Somehow giving depth and a note of possible truth to this amazing story. Well-done on many levels. Highly recommend the series to all.
Well I am very glad to finally have an ending to that series, I, like I am sure many people started reading Chris Fox's work at the Magitech Chronicles and could not get enough!
It feels like that final chapter has been years in the making! Could not recommend enough!
That was a satisfying conclusion to a fantastic debut series. I remember reading tge first book just wanting more. It has been great following the journey through this series. Mr. Fox is a credit to writing. Giving his fans so much since beginning his writing career. Thank you.
A fitting conclusion to a fun series. Is it high literature that will be studied and required reading for scholars in the future? No. It's the literary equivalent of a fun straight to vhs 80s b movie. Weird twists. Crazy characters. Doesn't all quite make sense. But you want to keep reading and you don't want it to end.
The Deathless Saga comes to a satisfying conclusion in this final battle with the legendary Builders. Fox has carefully set pieces in place that give his heroes a genuine chance at victory, but the Builders have been planning as well and the stakes could not be higher. This was a great conclusion to a very enjoyable series.
I would give this series more that a 5 if i could. It was a great read that i really enjoyed. I am sad that the series ended and hope that there will a similar one someday. The scope and creativity of the story and characters are excellent. I highly recommend this series!
Fitting ending, if we were to put a teotwawki in the HEA category. Makes you laugh, cry, angry and enjoy the ass-kicking delivered. So all you fans of this narrative should be happy at this story's conclusion. Thank you Chris for great series.
I have followed this series since the beginning and love how the characters have matured. Chris will kill off anyone like GOT, so it can be an emotional rollercoaster. Love how this ended and tied into his other series nicely!
I have been engrossed, absolutely, by this series. I'm the midst of moving house, I have abandoned my wife and worries to enjoy a totally new type of science fiction.
A well written series, including imagination and lore.
The series will make you think and wonder if this was based on ancient facts. There is plenty of action and the characters are imaginable. I would recommend this series, it will keep you wanting more.
Bringing the whole cast back together against a shared existential threat, they work and grow together, ending in triumph. Well written, good pacing and an excellent story arc through the book.
A fitting end for the Deathless series. The imagination of Mr. Fox has created a tremendous universe in which his stories are living!! I recommend the reading of these stories!!
I enjoyed this series though it became a bit of a slog I had to finish to see how it all turned out. I will say the story progressed in a way I wasn't expecting not your average werewolf saga
This entire six book series keeps you interested throughout. The characters are riveting and diverse. And they’re reactions and interactions are very interesting.
The Builders is the climactic conclusion to Chris Fox's engaging Deathless series. DO NOT read this book first -- start at the beginning. The storyline evolves in a way that makes the first book very different in character from the final installment. That isn't a bad thing though, and in addition to being a satisfying final Deathless installment, it ties in with his other sci-fi writing as well. This isn't great literature, but it is engaging and a fun read with plenty of action and mind-bending feats. The story arc comes to a satisfactory conclusion though I had perhaps hoped for something more. That said, the Great Old Ones Make an appearance, so how cool is that ?!?
