When you live so close to the edge, you have to be prepared to fall over it.
Californian Judge Andrew Hardgrave is found murdered in his Los Angeles home, with one single bullet wound, and all roads lead to attorney Bill Harvey’s client. Despite claiming he’s out of the criminal game, Carlos López is fighting drug charges, and it becomes clear his involvement with organized crime runs deep.
As Harvey starts to investigate, turning leads into danger, friends into suspects, he finds there is more to the case than he could have imagined. The more he digs, the more threatening the case becomes. Desperately, he fights to find a clue that will solve the crimes.
But what he uncovers will risk the lives of the people he loves…
This thrilling legal novel will take you for a ride through the courtroom, and end with a twist that you didn’t see coming.
Love fast moving legal thrillers, but this one was too slow. Filled with great details, long and boring. Drug dealers, murdered judge and corrupt officers.
ERROR IN THE GOODREADS LISTING: This is actually book 1, not book 2 Finishing this opener to the series has left me in no doubt to move directly on to book two. It's a little short, therefore, it's quite pacey but there is enough meat on the bones with regard to characterisation. Much of the time the main protagonist's actions seemed a little un-attorney-like and more like a police detective. That's not a criticism because it added to the action and kept me turning the pages. Of course there's the courtroom drama and it's as tense as it comes, interesting too. I didn't find any predictability whatsoever in the plot. Neither did I expect the double, yes two, twists at the end. This author has co-written another legal series with Patrick Graham and it's easy to spot his input as there is an element of copy and paste here, even with the dialogue. Not too much but enough for you to predict the next sentence. I don't mean it as a gripe but rather an observation and it didn't detract any enjoyment from the read.
I really enjoyed Redeeming Justice. But not enough courtroom for me. Good character development and nice ending. Looking forward to the next one. 4 stars.
I believe this author is a romantic. I think all the books I’ve read of his, he create romance relationships with the main characters and they mostly have a working connection with each others. I just love these lawyers stories, can sit and read them all days but I don’t want the love stories interfering with the storyline. If authors have to go there, just write them a wife already present when the story starts. I don’t want to read about no heartbeat skipping a beat or a breath catching when they look at each other. I just want nothing but suspense, thrill, drama, and twists. I can always read a romance book.
I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. I like the fact that this attorney has fears and faults and admits to them. His past as a psychologist and now as an attorney seem to come together to give him that extra edge when dealing with clients, witnesses, and friends.
The book was kind of disjointed and maybe not quite as developed as it should have been, like the author was in a hurry to finish it but it was still interesting enough that you want to finish and even to get the next one in the series. I'm sincerely hoping it's better because I like Bill Harvey, the main character.
Great story that keeps you guessing what is going to happen next with a lawyer who is trying to make up for what he did to his brother as a young man who hated his brothers addiction and has forgiven his brother and ho ping to find his brother no longer a addict and alive and healthy. A good happy ending
This book has a better story and more suspense but was not proofread! Articles missing n wrong pronoun used such as "her" when should have said "his". Also author says two Mexicans among the jury when should have written Mexican Americans as Mexican citizens cannot register to vote and jurists are picked from among registered voters. Big mistake!
I liked this book. Bill Harvey is a no BS lawyer with skeletons in the closet. He defends a recovered drug addict being set up by a drug kingpin who happens to be his cousin.
Bill figures it out in court but what I liked was how Harvey did the real world leg work to figure it out.
Although some reviews say the book was slow, I disagree.
Another book that was so bad I couldn't stop reading to see if it could get any worse and it did. The plot wasn't too bad but it was all over the place and talk fillers it was dialogue repeated over and over again to fill up the book. What a waste of time.He has written other books that weren't bad so I know he could have done better
So much better than the first one. I really enjoyed the fast paced nature of this book. I felt the story flowed much better than the first book in this series. Looking forward to the next one.
Fun quick read. The characters are slowly built which allows the reader to be invested in their outcome. The plot has a few good twists that make you smile.
I look forward to following Bill Harvey in his next case and enjoy how he solves the mystery of the innocent.
Suspenseful to the end. Drug addiction can destroy a person's life as well as family. The drug traffickers were convicted in court by lawyer who could see beyond false statements to seek and pull out the truth.
The books are basically good, BUT (a big one) he uses phrases and even plot twists from his other stories. It's obviously not plagiarism, but it's damn lazy writing --I guess he expected that no one would read more than one of his books. Oops!
Loved Bill Harvey, loved and cared about the minor characters . I enjoyed reading the book so much I gave it five stars ,which is something I never gave another book when rating it. I highly recommend this book, so pick it up and enjoy reading it.
This story keeps you in suspense until the very end. Drugs are such a terrible thing and this story feels like it could be real. Just watch the news and read the newspaper and the internet leads.
Excellent courtroom drama as well as a streetwise caper that puts lawyers in a hot box ,some twists at the end but very entertaining book. No foul language noted or overdone violence.
Just finished two different series. They are excellent. Interesting so many camp out on the errors. Irrespective of errors I absolutely love the characters, the cross examination in the trials. I am a huge fan!!!!
Lots of intrigue, court room drama. Family ties and blood is thicker than water. Did not see the double double cross. But then there is no honor among thieves or drug dealers
I read all the Southern series and since I really enjoyed them, I thought I'd try another. So far, so good. Just finished book one and really liked all the plot twists and turns. Getting ready for book two.
I enjoyed the protagonists and their tête-à-tête discussions. Although the story covers along span of time, it clearly is associated with the timeframes. Good read.
