Homeless men are being murdered at an alarming rate across Los Angeles, and attorney Bill Harvey’s estranged brother is the man at the center of the investigation.
When Jonathon Harvey finally calls, Bill answers.
A reformed drug addict, Jonathon claims to be innocent. He claims he had nothing to do with the murders. He claims he’s clean. But the evidence is mounting quickly, and all roads are leading to Jonathon. As the time ticks past, the intense pressure builds.
Justice or family - the question Bill cannot answer.
Bad story telling. Pages full of stock Questions and A. Some successful author's know how to change the wording here and there to make it like you are reading it the first time. I don't have the command of the English language, but I can read. Can't recommend it.
ERROR IN THE GOODREADS LISTING: This is book 2, NOT 3. You don't get to see the inside of a courtroom in this book. To me it had the feel of a police procedural but instead of detectives conducting the investigation, Harvey, the hero lawyer does it all. The story tries to be emotive in several respects but I don't think it quite pulls it off. Unfortunately, the red herrings don't add any intrigue to the plot - it's far too transparent for that. You know the culprit the moment they appear; only Harvey can't figure it out. But I still enjoyed the book enough to move on to book 3. It's simply one of those books you forget about immediately it ends, nothing bad but nothing memorable either. A very generous 4 stars.
Y'know, I'm a slow reader; always have been. And I've only been reading for pleasure for about four years. So when I zip through a book, I have to look to see why.
I had read several of Peter O'Mahoney books and liked that the language is decent and there's no gratuitous sex in them. After reading seven later books, I decided to start at the beginning of O'Mahoney's books - and that's the Bill Harvey series, which was written in 2017-2018 (the last four of Bill Harvey all in 2018). I thought the first book went pretty quick, but didn't think much about it until I read the second one - this book. During this book I realized that Peter O'Mahoney uses a lot of filler text; not really needed for the story. But I also noticed a lot of white space - that each paragraph is double-spaced, and chapters headings aren't headings at all - they're just a blank page. So if you take the 212 page length that this novel is, and subtract the 38 blank pages that only say "Chapter x", you wind up with a book that's 174 pages long, with double-spaced paragraphs. Add to that an un-complex "straight-line" plot, you have a quick read.
Since my library doesn't have any Peter O'Mahoney books in Kindle, my purchases may now be complete. There are too many other books available that have more complex plots.
All that said, the book WASN'T terrible - just not very complex. And not with many surprises.
You feel connected as you read. Real world issues and once again the author takes you deep into this is life and these thoughts are bound to happen. As I would read my heart was breaking and I would cry over what was happening. I would feel drawn to keep reading. I would smile and laugh and sob all within minutes of my reading. This author manages to capture all of my emotions and does this with words of encouragement as well. I plan on reading every single book of his. Life is short and I love to read. I give this author my respect. Which I do not say often. He managed to get under my skin and then capture my heart with the encouragement than he gives.
This was book was better to me, even though I guess the perp from the beginning. Author tried to throw in some twist and turn but I stuck with my instincts. There’s not a lot of drama but it’s still interesting. This book was inspiring to me because of family values. I’m happy the siblings reunited with each others, so much love. I’m glad Penny is a survivor. And I’m thrilled Kate wasn’t in this story too much. She always following behind Bill or just showing up, even when he tells her to stand down. I hope author keeps her in Florida. I’m just not team Kate, she’s a nuisance to me.
I liked the complexity of the characters and that they were not sugar coated in any way. Sometimes dialogue was a bit extended beyond usefulness, but in all, a very compelling read - couldn't easily put it down. I'll have to check into the author - he uses quite a few British turns of phrase and expressions, which is unexpected and to me, added a bit of charm to the book. Do read this one - it's time well spent.
I’ve read many of O’Mahoney’s books. This one is okay but not my favorite because I felt it was too easy to figure out the killer early on. The suspense didn’t go on as long as I would have liked. It is still a good book though and I wouldn’t skip it in the series. Based on his other books though this one seemed more elementary in the writing. If you want an easy yet suspenseful book then this one is a good choice.
I have read and loved the first three books in this series and look forward to finishing up the entire series. Wonderful characters and beautiful storytelling!
Bill Harvey defends his own younger brother by solving the crimes around his brother's incarceration as well as freeing another falsely accused individual
Great story line where all the siblings get back together again and are able to spend time together and go one with their lives in despite the traumatic things that happened in their childhood.
This is a book worth reading. This book and this series is very good. I recommend this series. It has very good suspense and thrills . Keeps you in suspense until the very end.
Okay. Yup. Inconsequential typos mar reading but...
I truly enjoyed this book and urge you to read others in this series. Each evening that I was reading the book, I was reluctant to put the book down. I simply wanted more prior to hitting the sack. Enjoy!
This novel was slightly better than the first book in the series. Still a tv drama that could run in an hour and not have to use a lot of gray matter. I would be hesitant to recommend even for a beach read.
I have read 6 books by this author. The same theme through all six - interesting legal case - but 90% alcoholism or addiction to drugs is the rest. Serious problems but not my continuous cup of tea.
Bill Harvey has a tough time defending the brother that he has not seen for 20 years. But even though his brother is accused of murdering a homeless man, who Bill knew, it is an emotional roller coaster ride.
I really enjoy this author and as a lawyer he has to defend crooks, thieves, murderers and various lowlifes but this time his brother is needing him to defend him against a murder charge. Good story
Love reading the Bill Harvey Series, very similar to the Tex Hunter series and I really enjoyed that whole series. I’m very glad with how this turned out, the killer is not who I thought it was. Love Peter O’Mahoney’s books.
I love reading these books to try and figure out the who done it before it reveals the person. I had two people in mind as I read it, and in the end I was wrong lol. I usually can figure it out, Peter O’Mahoney always has a twist that throws you off.
Harvey again solves a murder mystery. His brother, who is homeless is set up for killing homeless men. He is innocent. Harvey discovers the killer and saves his brother.
This story was kind of sad even if it work out on how families can figure out problems ad forgiveness if they real try to understand situations from other view point.
I love Bill Harvey!! He’s great at figuring out the mystery. There’s so much action and suspense I couldn’t put this one down. Great twists and turns!!
This is an amazing story, with excellent description of the characters, several twists in the plot, and an unexpected end. I highly recommend this book.
