A smuggler seeking to change his destiny. An enslaved trader desperate to go home. Can they survive the forces determined to drive them apart?
When Rhona is taken from Mars orbit by the infamous alien slave ship The Crucible, she knows she'll never see her family again. After three hundred years of stolen humans, she has every reason to hate aliens, but when she meets a sexy, horned Kathen, all of her assumptions are overturned.
Makios is a male on a mission, or he would be if he hadn't been taken by slavers. When the beautiful human female he's falling for is sold to a sadistic Amaran, Makios must save the girl, get on with his mission and help to reshape their whole sector of space.
But with Rhona's owner determined to recapture his property, can Makios keep the woman he loves safe?
TRIGGER WARNING: There is an early scene of violence and a brief assault attempt at one point of the book which is not gratuitous. The heroine lives in a world where human females are considered a sexual commodity. Please do not read this book if these things are a trigger for you.
Lucy is an all-round nerd with a life-long love of fantasy and science-fiction, throw in a happily-ever-after and she’s a happy customer. When she’s not reading or writing about alien males and the human women who love them, she’s spending time with her husband and three cats in their Derbyshire home.
I can’t even describe how much I loved this book. The heat between Rhona and Makios is intense. I’d call this a high heat medium burn romance because Rhona has some alien prejudices that she works through before they fall for one another. And who wouldn’t love Makios? More excellent world building here. I’m excited to see what’s going to happen next.
A splendid adventure! What begins as a frightening, tragic abduction turns into an extraordinary adventure for Rhona, with a topping of hot romance! Rhona proves to be a strong woman throughout, although there is an aspect of her character that I don’t care for. It is thrilling to see her attitude toward aliens change as she encounters more of them in a safe, friendly atmosphere. Her rescuer and newfound mate, Makios, is a gem. He is super protective, an enthusiastic and talented mate, and a true hero on his mission to rescue enslaved beings. A very rewarding read!
It was a good story, I liked Makios and Rhona and their crew. They're fairly well written, but again, there are way too many alien races to keep track of. It was a chore to try and remember everyone and how they looked like, let alone meet new aliens in chapter 20 who are described only as a particular race we just read about in chapter one. A couple of members of Makios' crew were kind of secondary and sometimes I forgot they were there because they were rarely mentioned, and as a result, had little personality to speak of. There's a lot, and I mean a lot of sexy times, which keep the book as long as it is. At least they don't feel so repetitive, though at some point it's just tiresome to read about them going at it yet again followed by everyone commenting how freaking loud they were, again. The world is interesting, there are a lot of aliens and everyone has a culture, and it's obvious that the author has thought about all of them and given depth to each race. Kudos for that. I would appreciate it if we focus on two, maybe three races in each book, instead of having info about five or more races and their cultures, even of characters who are there for a chapter and then gone. Like they were there just to info-dump about their culture and peace out. *EDIT* those characters were the MCs of the next books, and we got the info-dumping in their stories again, so it was pointless here.
Book two of this series. The world building is developing nicely. There are a lot of moving parts and they are interlaced well. Humans have known about aliens for 300 years and, of course, our xenophobia is showing,
“It was as though there was a line of people each holding a whip, and each time they felt the lash, they paid it forward.”
Granted, many aliens are cruel and lawless, but not more so than humans. (That quote describes the brutality of patriarchy in the real world for the last 5000 years.)
It's fascinating to see the power and status dynamics at play. Slavery is a large part of the story. This series is doing a great job of describing the systemic nature of slavery. Even if you are born free, if you get kidnapped, you can be made a slave, lose all rights, and be hunted down, punished, and returned to your owner. There is no penalty for the original kidnapping. It's human trafficking and humans are among the least powerful of this galaxy’s alien peoples.
The good guys have lots of plans and strategies in the works to keep Earth from being plundered by space slavers. On to book 3.
I loved that book 2 began with our FMC Rhona and her family living on Mars and making a living as traders of the Sol system which we know from book 1 is a very dangerous life due to the sporadic attacks by alien slaver ships.
The author did a wonderful job of world building giving us both insight into both Earth's history as well as future as they continue life after invasion hundreds of years in our past. Attention was also given to all the various aliens we come across in both books.
This saga is of a darker theme with the slave trade and the treatment of both humans and what are consider/perceived as the weaker alien races. There was plenty of action as well as tastefully well placed levity as our characters struggle to free themselves and save the day. I'm on to book 3 but I'm also looking forward to reading Decimen's story I picked up in a novella spin-off. Happy reading.
Fiery-tempered red-haired Rhona meets red-tattooed alien hero Makios in the holding cell of a slaver's ship. The born -to-space trader and the smuggler with a covert mission are a natural fit, a 'thing' from the get-go, and Makios lets neither his rescue or his assigned mission for the Protectorate get in the way of retrieving, and mating, his beloved little human. Shared values, similar youthful experiences, a dislike of slavery so passionate it borders on vendetta, and a mutual appreciation for epic (and LOUD) marathon sex - all serve to cement their bond, as they build a crew, a joint purpose, and a life together. The highlights: suspense and action, great characters, and (if you're into it) the aforementioned marathon sex. Book Three is up next.
I wasn’t as engaged as the previous books in the series, I already knew Makios would be an awesome hero and couldn’t wait to read his journey, however throughout the read I started to get slightly annoyed with the heroine, I thought her character was strong at times and annoying 25% of the time, also in some parts a bit long. Usually a read takes me a day to finished, this one took me a week ..It’s an exciting read with dark times, heaps of gritting action and loud sex. The concept of this series is seriously good such as stamping out slavery and world peace, so eager to carry on with the series.
I don’t know what happened with this one. Thought I’d found a good series but this one absolutely more than irritated me. Skipped blocks and then chunks and never did find out if Aran was important enough to them to stop spending scene after scene having sex instead of rescuing ppl that were supposed to be important to them. Honestly, I’m shocked at how different this book was from the others. It took a while to get off the ground and maybe that’s why I kept losing interest later. I got impatient, truth be told. So that’s all I’m going to say. This is the second time I’ve had such a reaction to one of this author’s books. Beginning to wonder if they’re not for me.
Good start for the series, disappointing second book. I can't say it was really bad, but it wasn't that great either. The MCs fell into sex almost as soon as they met and they did it so often that I skipped almost a quarter of the book. Their adventures were too drawn out and again far too many characters that are irrelevant to the story. I get that it's the universe out there, but I don't need the names and backstories of every freakin alien they meet. When I got to the end of the book I was stressed out with all the names and species that were mentioned and that's not a nice feeling.
Absolutely LOVED this one! The pillow talk was everything. I'm not a fan of insta love but this book proved me wrong. I still despise the amount of unneeded characters and details introduced that just confuse me. It becomes so hard to keep up with who's who. Other than that this book hit all my marks: characters that grow and evolve, world building, and having an actual plot along with my much needed smut.
I again really liked this book, read it in one day! I really liked going back and finding out what happened to Makios and getting to know his crew better. I liked Rhona more as the book went on, originally she seemed alittle too brazen to me but I liked her overall. Really excited for the next book in the series!!
Not really sure how she is doing it but the world, character and even building is insanely good. I took a chance on her first and got hooked. I can't wait for the next!!! You will thoroughly enjoy this series!!
Really good. Hope there’s a book 3 sometime. Lots of interesting side characters were introduced who could easily carry their own book. Personally I hope it’s the Prince who sought asylum from The Protectorate.
So sorry but I couldn't get into this one and stay hooked. I didnt like Rhonas personality at all and how her character seemed to changed her mannerisms. I couldnt stand her lingo
So far this series is well worth reading 😃. Intense action, crazy situations, great sex scenes and LOTS of different characters 😍. I'm enjoying this series so much I've been reading non-stop 😉. Thanks again L.P., I truly can't wait to read more 🤓.
Rhona is captured and imprisoned with three alien males and is freaked out. Makios is mesmerized by the red headed human female and takes her under his protection. However as slaves Rhona is sold early and things get dicey.
